The three-dimensional axisymmetrical initial-value problem of waves in a two-layered fluid of finite depth by an oscillatory surface pressure is solved. The exact integral solutions for velocity potentials of each layer and wave elevations at the surface and interface are obtained. The uniform asymptotic analysis of the unsteady state of waves is carried out when lower fluid is of infinite depth.  相似文献

The surface waves generated by unsteady concentrated disturbances in an initially quiescent fluid of infinite depth with an inertial surface are analytically investigated for two- and three-dimensional cases. The fluid is assumed to be inviscid, incompressible and homogenous. The inertial surface represents the effect of a thin uniform distribution of non-interacting floating matter. Four types of unsteady concentrated disturbances and two kinds of initial values are considered, namely an instantaneous/oscillating mass source immersed in the fluid, an instantaneous/oscillating impulse on the surface, an initial impulse on the surface of the fluid, and an initial displacement of the surface. The linearized initial-boundary-value problem is formulated within the framework of potential flow. The solutions in integral form for the surface elevation are obtained by means of a joint Laplace-Fourier transform. The asymptotic representations of the wave motion for large time with a fixed distance- to-time ratio are derived by using the method of stationary phase. The effect of the presence of an inertial surface on the wave motion is analyzed. It is found that the wavelengths of the transient dispersive waves increase while those of the steady-state progressive waves decrease. All the wave amplitudes decrease in comparison with those of conventional free-surface waves. The explicit expressions for the freesurface gravity waves can readily be recovered by the present results as the inertial surface disappears.  相似文献

The propagation of spherical waves in an isotropie elastic medium has been studied sufficiently completely (see, e.g., [1–4]). it is proved [5, 6] that in imperfect solid media, the formation and propagation of waves similar to waves in elastic media are possible. With the use of asymptotic transform inversion methods in [7] a problem of an internal point source in a viscoelastic medium was investigated. The problem of an explosion in rocks in a half-space was considered in [8]. A numerical Laplace transform inversion, proposed by Bellman, is presented in [9] for the study of the action of an explosive pulse on the surface of a spherical cavity in a viscoelastic medium of Voigt type. In the present study we investigate the propagation of a spherical wave formed from the action of a pulsed load on the internal surface of a spherical cavity in a viscoelastic half-space. The potentials of the waves propagating in the medium are constructed in the form of series in special functions. In order to realize viscoelasticity we use a correspondence method [10]. The transform inversion is carried out by means of a representation of the potentials in integral form and subsequent use of asymptotic methods for their calculation. Thus, it becomes possible to investigate the behavior of a medium near the wave fronts. The radial stress is calculated on the surface of the cavity.Translated from Zhurnal Prikladnoi Mekhaniki i Tekhnicheskoi Fiziki, No. 1, pp. 139–146, March–April, 1976.  相似文献

The plane-strain problem of a stress pulse striking an elastic circular cylindrical inclusion embedded in an infinite elastic medium is treated. The method used determines dominant stress singularities that arise at wave fronts from the focusing of waves refracted into the interior. It is found that a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of a propagating stress singularity is that the incident pulse has a step discontinuity at its front. The asymptotic wave front behavior of the first few P and SV waves to focus are determined explicitly and it is shown that the contribution from other waves are less important. In the exterior, it is found that in most composite materials the reflected waves have a singularity at their wave front which depends on the angle of reflection. Also the wave front behavior of the first few singular transmitted waves is given explicitly. The analysis is based on the use of a Watson-type lemma, developed here, and Friedlander's method [5]. The lemma relates the asymptotic behavior of the solution at the wave front to the asymptotic behavior of its Fourier transform on time for large values of the transform parameter. Friedlander's method is used to represent the solution in terms of angularly propagating wave forms. This method employs integral transforms on both time and θ, the circumferential coordinate. The θ inversion integral is asymptotically evaluated for large values of the time transform parameter by use of appropriate asymptotics for Bessel and Hankel functions and the method of stationary phase. The Watson-type lemma is then used to determine the behavior of the solution at singular wave fronts. The Watson-type lemma is generally applicable to problems which involve singular loadings or focusing in which wave front behavior is important. It yields the behavior of singular wave fronts whether or not the singular wave is the first to arrive. This application extends Friedlander's method to an interior region and physically interprets the resulting representation in terms of ray theory.  相似文献

A regular wave integral method is developed in the discretisation of a linear hydrodynamic problem on radiation and diffraction of surface waves by a floating or submerged body. The velocity potential of the problem is expressed as a solution of a body boundary integral equation involving the pulsating free surface Green function or pulsating free surface sources distributed on the body surface. With the use of a discretisation on the regular wave integral rather than discretisations on the singular wave integral of the Green function as in earlier investigations, the singular wave integral is approximated as an expansion of regular (or nonirregular) wave potentials. Influence coefficients between pulsating free surface source points are computed by the approximate expansion together with Hess–Smith panel integral formulas. Thus the velocity potential solution is evaluated by a boundary element algorithm. The numerical results produced from the proposed method agree well with semi-analytic solution results.  相似文献

Transient wave propagation of isotropic thin plates using a higher-order plate theory is presented in this paper. The aim of this investigation is to assess the applicability of the higher-order plate theory in describing wave behavior of isotropic plates at higher frequencies. Both extensional and flexural waves are considered. A complete discussion of dispersion of isotropic plates is first investigated. All the wave modes and wave behavior for each mode in the low and high-frequency ranges are provided in detail. Using the dispersion relation and integral transforms, exact integral solutions for an isotropic plate subjected to pure impulse load and a number of wave excitations based on the higher-order theory are obtained and asymptotic solutions which highlight the physics of waves are also presented. The axisymmetric three-dimensional analytical solutions of linear wave equations are also presented for comparison. Results show that the higher-order theory can predict the wave behavior closely with exact linear wave solutions at higher frequencies.  相似文献

We consider a three-dimensional problem on the interaction of harmonic waves with a thin rigid movable inclusion in an infinite elastic body. The problem is reduced to solving a system of two-dimensional boundary integral equations of Helmholtz potential type for the stress jump functions on the opposite surfaces of the inclusion. We propose a boundary element method for solving the integral equations on the basis of the regularization of their weakly singular kernels. Using the asymptotic relations between the amplitude-frequency characteristics of the wave farzone field and the obtained boundary stress jump functions, we determine the amplitudes of the shear plane wave scattering by a circular disk-shaped inclusion for various directions of the wave incident on the inclusion and for a broad range of wave numbers.  相似文献

T , the first of two articles, is concerned with the scattering of elastic waves by arbitrary surface-breaking or near surface defects in an isotropic half-plane. We present an analytical solution, by the method of matched asymptotic expansions, when the parameter , which is the ratio of a typical length scale of the imperfection to the incident radiation's wavelength, is small. The problem is formulated for a general class of small defects, including cracks, surface bumps and inclusions, and for arbitrary incident waves. As a straightforward example of the asymptotic scheme we specialize the defect to a two-dimensional circular void or protrusion, which breaks the free surface, and assume Rayleigh wave excitation ; this inner problem is exactly solvable by conformal mapping methods. The displacement field is found uniformly to leading order in , and the Rayleigh waves which are scattered by the crack are explicitly determined. In the second article we use the method given here to tackle the important problem of an inclined edge-crack. In that work we show that the scattered field can be found to any asymptotic order in a straightforward manner, and in particular the Rayleigh wave coefficients are given to O(2).  相似文献

The interfacial waves due to a steady Oseenlet in a system of two semi-infinite immiscible fluids of different densities are investigated analytically. The two-fluid system which consists of an upper inviscid and a lower viscous fluid is assumed to be incompressible, homogenous and stable. The interfacial elevation is given by a double Fourier integral, which involves a generic amplitude function, a complex dispersion function and an elementary phase function. With the aid of four kinds of expansion of the phase function, the asymptotic representations of the far-field wave profiles are explicitly derived for four regions as the azimuth angle is less than, less than but close to, at, and greater than but close to, the maximal angle of the V-wedge for Kelvin ship waves. Graphical representations of wave profiles show the consistency of four asymptotic schemes. A combination of the Stokes and Scorer methods of stationary phase gives uniformly valid results over the panoramic region.  相似文献

A second-order asymptotic expression for the profile of a capillary-gravity wave traveling over the charged surface of an ideal incompressible fluid is calculated analytically. Two types of steady-state profiles of nonlinear periodic capillary-gravity waves are found. For a certain fixed dimensionless surface charge the shape of the tops of the nonlinear waves changes: from blunt to pointed for short waves and from pointed to blunt for long waves.  相似文献

The dynamic responses of an ice-covered fluid to impulsive disturbances are analytically investigated for two- and three-dimensional cases. The initially quiescent fluid of infinite depth is assumed to be inviscid, incompressible and homogenous. The thin ice-cover is modelled as a homogenous elastic plate with negligible inertia. Four types of impulsive concentrated disturbances are considered, namely an instantaneous mass source immersed in the fluid, an instantaneously dynamic load on the plate, an initial impulse on the surface of the fluid, and an initial displacement of the ice plate. The linearized initial-boundary-value problem is formulated within the framework of potential flow. The solutions in integral form for the vertical deflexions at the ice-water interface are obtained by means of a joint Laplace-Fourier transform. The asymptotic representations of the wave motions for large time with a fixed distance-to-time ratio are derived by making use of the method of stationary phase. It is found that there exists a minimal group velocity and the wave system observed depends on the moving speed of the observer. For an observer moving with the speed larger than the minimal group velocity, there exist two trains of waves, namely the long gravity waves and the short flexural waves, the latter riding on the former. Moreover, the deflexions of the ice-plate for an observer moving with a speed near the minimal group velocity are expressed in terms of the Airy functions. The effects of the presence of an ice-cover on the resultant wave amplitudes, the wavelengths and periods are discussed in detail. The explicit expressions for the free-surface gravity waves can readily be recovered by the present results as the thickness of ice-plate tends to zero.  相似文献

A fully nonlinear irregular wave tank has been developed using a three‐dimensional higher‐order boundary element method (HOBEM) in the time domain. The Laplace equation is solved at each time step by an integral equation method. Based on image theory, a new Green function is applied in the whole fluid domain so that only the incident surface and free surface are discretized for the integral equation. The fully nonlinear free surface boundary conditions are integrated with time to update the wave profile and boundary values on it by a semi‐mixed Eulerian–Lagrangian time marching scheme. The incident waves are generated by feeding analytic forms on the input boundary and a ramp function is introduced at the start of simulation to avoid the initial transient disturbance. The outgoing waves are sufficiently dissipated by using a spatially varying artificial damping on the free surface before they reach the downstream boundary. Numerous numerical simulations of linear and nonlinear waves are performed and the simulated results are compared with the theoretical input waves. Copyright © 2006 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The properties of harmonic surface waves in a fluid-filled cylinder made of a compliant material are studied. The wave motions are described by a complete system of dynamic equations of elasticity and the equation of motion of a perfect compressible fluid. An asymptotic analysis of the dispersion equation for large wave numbers and a qualitative analysis of the dispersion spectrum show that there are two surface waves in this waveguide system. The first normal wave forms a Stoneley wave on the inside surface with increase in the wave number. The second normal wave forms a Rayleigh wave on the outside surface. The phase velocities of all the other waves tend to the velocity of the shear wave in the cylinder material. The dispersion, kinematic, and energy characteristics of surface waves are analyzed. It is established how the wave localization processes differ in hard and compliant materials of the cylinder __________ Translated from Prikladnaya Mekhanika, Vol. 44, No. 4, pp. 72–86, April 2008.  相似文献

The leading tail for slowly varying solitary waves for the perturbed Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) equation is analyzed. The path of the core of the solitary wave is obtained and shown to provide a moving boundary for the leading tail. The leading tail is predicted to be triple valued within a penumbral caustic (envelope of characteristics) caused by the initial acceleration of the core. A rescaling in the neighborhood of the singularity shows that the solution there satisfies the diffusion equation. The solution involves an incomplete Airy-type exponential integral, where critical points (significant for Laplace's asymptotic method) satisfy the structure of the penumbral caustic. A wave number shock develops, which separates two different solitary wave tails, one due to the moving core and the other due to the initial condition. The shock velocity is that predicted from conservation of waves.  相似文献

The paper is devoted to the diffraction of a plane wave by an acoustically transparent semi-infinite cone. The problem of diffraction is reduced to a singular integral equation in the framework of the incomplete separation of variables. The Fredholm property and regularization of the integral equation are discussed. Some important integral representations of the wave field are considered. The detailed study of the far-field asymptotics is given. Expressions for the diffraction coefficient of the spherical wave scattered from the vertex of the cone are considered. The reflected from the conical surface waves and those transmitted across the surface are also discussed.  相似文献

The existence and propagation of the surface waves at a vacuum/porous medium interface are investigated in the low frequency range. Two types of surface waves are shown to be possible: the generalized Rayleigh wave, which always exists, and the Stoneley wave, which exists for a limited range of wave numbers. Moreover, within the k-domain of existence the Stoneley wave cannot appear for certain values of elastic parameters of the solid phase. The bifurcation behavior of both the Stoneley wave and the Biot (P2) bulk wave, depending on the wave number, is revealed. The asymptotic formulas for the phase velocities of the surface waves are derived. To cite this article: I. Edelman, C. R. Mecanique 332 (2004).  相似文献

On the base of analytic asymptotic calculations which are quadratic with respect to the ratio of the wave amplitude and the jet radius it is shown that the presence of a tangential jump in the velocity field on the jet surface leads to generation of a periodic wave motion on the interface between the media and has the destabilizing effect for both axisymmetric and bending and bending-deformation waves. It is found that there is a degenerate internal nonlinear resonance interaction between waves on the jet surface. This interaction may be of six different types in which the energy can be transferred between the interacting waves including waves of different symmetry. In the last case the energy is transferred from waves determining the initial deformation to axisymmetric waves.  相似文献
