On frames for countably generated Hilbert -modules

Let be a countably generated Hilbert -module over a -algebra We prove that a sequence is a standard frame for if and only if the sum converges in norm for every and if there are constants such that for every We also prove that surjective adjointable operators preserve standard frames. A class of frames for countably generated Hilbert -modules over the -algebra of all compact operators on some Hilbert space is discussed.

     

Discrete spectra of -algebras and complemented submodules in Hilbert -modules

Let be a -algebra and let be a full (right) Hilbert -module. It is shown that if the spectrum of is discrete, then every closed --submodule of is complemented in , and conversely that if is a -space and if every closed --submodule of is complemented in , then is discrete.

     

On the algebra range of an operator on a Hilbert -module over compact operators

Let be a Hilbert -module over the -algebra of all compact operators on a complex Hilbert space . Given an orthogonal projection , we describe the set for an arbitrary adjointable operator . The relationship between the set and the matricial range of is established.

     

Discrete spectra of -algebras and orthogonally closed submodules in Hilbert -modules

Let and be -algebras and let be an --imprimitivity bimodule. Then it is shown that if the spectrum of (resp. of ) is discrete, then every closed --submodule of is orthogonally closed in , and conversely that if (resp. ) is a -space and if every closed --submodule of is orthogonally closed in , then (resp. ) is discrete.

     

Local automorphisms and derivations on certain -algebras

It is shown that continuous -local derivations on -algebras are derivations and surjective -local *-automorphisms on prime -algebras or on -algebras such that the identity element is properly infinite are *-automorphisms.

     

A Hilbert -module not anti-isomorphic to itself

We study the complexification of real Hilbert -modules over real -algebras. We give an example of a Hilbert -module that is not the complexification of any Hilbert -module, where is a real -algebra.

     

Automatic continuity of -derivations on -algebras

Let be a -algebra acting on a Hilbert space , let be a linear mapping and let be a -derivation. Generalizing the celebrated theorem of Sakai, we prove that if is a continuous -mapping, then is automatically continuous. In addition, we show the converse is true in the sense that if is a continuous --derivation, then there exists a continuous linear mapping such that is a --derivation. The continuity of the so-called - -derivations is also discussed.

     

Bundles of -correspondences over directed graphs and a theorem of Ionescu

We give a short proof of a recent theorem of Ionescu which shows that the Cuntz-Pimsner -algebra of a certain correspondence associated to a Mauldin-Williams graph is isomorphic to the graph algebra.

     

Simple corona -algebras

Let be a non-unital and -unital simple -algebra. We show that if is simple, then is purely infinite. We also show that is simple if and only if has a continuous scale provided that is not isomorphic to the compact operators.

     

A -sampling theorem related to the -Hankel transform

A -version of the sampling theorem is derived using the -Hankel transform introduced by Koornwinder and Swarttouw. The sampling points are the zeros of the third Jackson -Bessel function.

     

A dual graph construction for higher-rank graphs, and -theory for finite 2-graphs

Given a -graph and an element of , we define the dual -graph, . We show that when is row-finite and has no sources, the -algebras and coincide. We use this isomorphism to apply Robertson and Steger's results to calculate the -theory of when is finite and strongly connected and satisfies the aperiodicity condition.

     

The vanishing of implies that is regular

Let be an excellent local ring of positive prime characteristic. We show that if , then is regular. This improves a result of Schoutens, in which the additional hypothesis that was an isolated singularity was required for the proof.

     

Spectrally bounded operators on simple -algebras

A linear mapping from a subspace of a Banach algebra into another Banach algebra is called spectrally bounded if there is a constant such that for all , where denotes the spectral radius. We prove that every spectrally bounded unital operator from a unital purely infinite simple -algebra onto a unital semisimple Banach algebra is a Jordan epimorphism.

     

``Beurling type' subspaces of and

In this note we extend the ``Beurling type' characterizations of subspaces of and to and , respectively.

     

Principal groupoid -algebras with bounded trace

Suppose is a second countable, locally compact, Hausdorff, principal groupoid with a fixed left Haar system. We define a notion of integrability for groupoids and show is integrable if and only if the groupoid -algebra has bounded trace.

     

On characterizations of commutativity of C-algebras

We give three kinds of characterizations of the commutativity of C- algebras. The first is the one from operator monotone property of functions regarded as the nonlinear version of Stinespring theorem, the second one is the characterization of commutativity of local type from expansion formulae of related functions and the third one is of global type from multiple positivity of those nonlinear positive maps induced from functions.

     

Codes over and and Hermitian lattices over imaginary quadratic fields

We introduce a family of bi-dimensional theta functions which give uniformly explicit formulae for the theta series of hermitian lattices over imaginary quadratic fields constructed from codes over and , and give an interesting geometric characterization of the theta series that arise in terms of the basic strongly modular lattice . We identify some of the hermitian lattices constructed and observe an interesting pair of nonisomorphic 3/2 dimensional codes over that give rise to isomorphic hermitian lattices when constructed at the lowest level 7 but nonisomorphic lattices at higher levels. The results show that the two alphabets and are complementary and raise the natural question as to whether there are other such complementary alphabets for codes.

     

Blocks of central -group extensions

Let and be finite groups that have a common central -subgroup for a prime number , and let and respectively be -blocks of and induced by -blocks and respectively of and , both of which have the same defect group. We prove that if and are Morita equivalent via a certain special -bimodule, then such a Morita equivalence lifts to a Morita equivalence between and .

     

-invariant subspaces of

In this note, we give a new proof of the characterization of the -invariant subspaces of for in using ideas from approximation theory.     

Decomposability of graph -algebras

We give conditions on an arbitrary directed graph for the associated Cuntz-Krieger algebra to be decomposable as a direct sum. We describe the direct summands as certain graph algebras.
