Starting from a local quantum field theory with an unbroken compact symmetry group G in 1+1-dimensional spacetime we construct disorder fields implementing gauge transformations on the fields (order variables) localized in a wedge region. Enlarging the local algebras by these disorder fields we obtain a nonlocal field theory, the fixpoint algebras of which under the appropriately extended action of the group G are shown to satisfy Haag duality in every simple sector. The specifically 1+1 dimensional phenomenon of violation of Haag duality of fixpoint nets is thereby clarified. In the case of a finite group G the extended theory is acted upon in a completely canonical way by the quantum double D(G) and satisfies R-matrix commutation relations as well as a Verlinde algebra. Furthermore, our methods are suitable for a concise and transparent approach to bosonization. The main technical ingredient is a strengthened version of the split property which is expected to hold in all reasonable massive theories. In the appendices (part of) the results are extended to arbitrary locally compact groups and our methods are adapted to chiral theories on the circle. Given a finite dimensional C *-Hopf algebra H and its dual Ĥ we construct the infinite crossed product and study its superselection sectors in the framework of algebraic quantum field theory. is the observable algebra of a generalized quantum spin chain with H-order and Ĥ-disorder symmetries, where by a duality transformation the role of order and disorder may also appear interchanged. If is a group algebra then becomes an ordinary G-spin model. We classify all DHR-sectors of – relative to some Haag dual vacuum representation – and prove that their symmetry is described by the Drinfeld double . To achieve this we construct localized coactions and use a certain compressibility property to prove that they are universal amplimorphisms on . In this way the double can be recovered from the observable algebra as a universal cosymmetry. Received: 4 September 1995\,/\,Accepted: 3 December 1996  相似文献

We define and study two-dimensional, chiral conformal field theory by the methods of algebraic field theory. We start by characterizing the vacuum sectors of such theories and show that, under very general hypotheses, their algebras of local observables are isomorphic to the unique hyperfinite type III1 factor. The conformal net determined by the algebras of local observables is proven to satisfy Haag duality. The representation of the Moebius group (and presumably of the entire Virasoro algebra) on the vacuum sector of a conformal field theory is uniquely determined by the Tomita-Takesaki modular operators associated with its vacuum state and its conformal net. We then develop the theory of Moebius covariant representations of a conformal net, using methods of Doplicher, Haag and Roberts. We apply our results to the representation theory of loop groups. Our analysis is motivated by the desire to find a background-independent formulation of conformal field theories.  相似文献

We describe the structure of the inclusions of factors ?(E)⊂?(E′)′ associated with multi-intervals E⊂ℝ for a local irreducible net ? of von Neumann algebras on the real line satisfying the split property and Haag duality. In particular, if the net is conformal and the subfactor has finite index, the inclusion associated with two separated intervals is isomorphic to the Longo–Rehren inclusion, which provides a quantum double construction of the tensor category of superselection sectors of ?. As a consequence, the index of ?(E)⊂?(E′)′ coincides with the global index associated with all irreducible sectors, the braiding symmetry associated with all sectors is non-degenerate, namely the representations of ? form a modular tensor category, and every sector is a direct sum of sectors with finite dimension. The superselection structure is generated by local data. The same results hold true if conformal invariance is replaced by strong additivity and there exists a modular PCT symmetry. We present sufficient conditions that imply duality for the algebras of local observables in all Abelian sectors of all locally normal, irreducible representations of a field algebra if twisted duality obtains in one of these representations. It is verified that the Yukawa2 model satisfies these conditions, yielding the first proof of duality for the observable algebra in all coherent charge sectors in this model. This paper also constitutes the first verification of the assumptions of the axiomatic study of the structure of superselection sectors by Doplicher, Haag and Roberts in an interacting model with nontrivial sectors. The existence of normal product states for the free Fermi field algebra and, thus, the verification of the funnel property for the associated net of local algebras are demonstrated.  相似文献

The modular structure of the von Neumann algebra of local observables associated with a double cone in the vacuum representation of the free massless scalar field theory of any number of dimensions is described. The modular automorphism group is induced by the unitary implementation of a family of generalized fractional linear transformations on Minkowski space and is a subgroup of the conformal group. The modular conjugation operator is the anti-unitary implementation of a product of time reversal and relativistic ray inversion. The group generated by the modular conjugation operators for the local algebras associated with the family of double cone regions is the group of proper conformal transformations. A theorem is presented asserting the unitary equivalence of local algebras associated with lightcones, double cones, and wedge regions. For the double cone algebras, this provides an explicit realization of spacelike duality and establishes the known typeIII 1 factor property. It is shown that the timelike duality property of the lightcone algebras does not hold for the double cone algebras. A different definition of the von Neumann algebras associated with a region is introduced which agrees with the standard one for a lightcone or a double cone region but which allows the timelike duality property for the double cone algebras. In the case of one spatial dimension, the standard local algebras associated with the double cone regions satisfy both spacelike and timelike duality.Supported by the National Science Foundation under Grant No. PHY-79-23251Supported in part by C. Let ? be a local conformal net of von Neumann algebras on S 1 and ρ a M?bius covariant representation of ?, possibly with infinite dimension. If ρ has finite index, ρ has automatically positive energy. If ρ has infinite index, we show the spectrum of the energy always to contain the positive real line, but, as seen by an example, it may contain negative values. We then consider nets with Haag duality on ℝ, or equivalently sectors with non-solitonic extension to the dual net; we give a criterion for irreducible sectors to have positive energy, namely this is the case iff there exists an unbounded M?bius covariant left inverse. As a consequence the class of sectors with positive energy is stable under composition, conjugation and direct integral decomposition. Received: 21 April 1997 / Accepted: 23 September 1997  相似文献

According to the theory of superselection sectors of Doplicher, Haag, and Roberts, field operators which make transitions between different superselection sectors—i.e. different irreducible representations of the observable algebra—are to be constructed by adjoining localized endomorphisms to the algebra of local observables. We find the relevant endomorphisms of the chiral algebra of observables in the minimal conformal model with central chargec=1/2 (Ising model). We show by explicit and elementary construction how they determine a representation of the braid groupB which is associated with a Temperley-Lieb-Jones algebra. We recover fusion rules, and compute the quantum dimensions of the superselection sectors. We exhibit a field algebra which is quantum group covariant and acts in the Hilbert space of physical states. It obeys local braid relations in an appropriate weak sense.  相似文献

The generalized Haag theorem was proven in SO(1, k) invariant quantum field theory. Apart from the k + 1 variables, an arbitrary number of additional coordinates, including noncommutative ones, can occur in the theory. In SO(1, k) invariant theory new corollaries of the generalized Haag theorem are obtained. It has been proven that the equality of four-point Wightman functions in the two theories leads to the equality of elastic scattering amplitudes and thus to the equality of the total cross sections in these theories. It was also shown that at k > 3 the equality of (k + 1) point Wightman functions in the two theories leads to the equality of the scattering amplitudes of some inelastic processes. In the SO(1, 1) invariant theory it was proven that if in one of the theories under consideration the S-matrix is equal to unity, then in another theory the S-matrix equals unity as well.  相似文献

The validity of local parton-hadron duality within the framework of HERWIG and JETSET event generators is investigated. We concentrate one + e annihilations in LEP 2 energy range as these interactions provide theoretically the cleanest condition for the discussion of this concept. We conclude that the concept of local parton-hadron duality is not valid in either of the two generators considered.  相似文献

Particle states transforming in one of the infinite spin representations of the Poincaré group (as classified by E. Wigner) are consistent with fundamental physical principles, but local fields generating them from the vacuum state cannot exist. While it is known that infinite spin states localized in a spacelike cone are dense in the one-particle space, we show here that the subspace of states localized in any double cone is trivial. This implies that the free field theory associated with infinite spin has no observables localized in bounded regions. In an interacting theory, if the vacuum vector is cyclic for a double cone local algebra, then the theory does not contain infinite spin representations. We also prove that if a Doplicher–Haag–Roberts representation (localized in a double cone) of a local net is covariant under a unitary representation of the Poincaré group containing infinite spin, then it has infinite statistics. These results hold under the natural assumption of the Bisognano–Wichmann property, and we give a counter-example (with continuous particle degeneracy) without this property where the conclusions fail. Our results hold true in any spacetime dimension s + 1 where infinite spin representations exist, namely \({s\geq 2}\).  相似文献

We construct, in classical two-time physics, the necessary structure for the most general configuration space formulation of quantum mechanics containing gravity in d+2 dimensions. This structure is composed of a symmetric Riemannian metric tensor and of a vector field that defines a section of a flat U(1) bundle over space-time. This construction is possible because of the existence of a finite local scale invariance of the Hamiltonian and because two-time physics contains, at the classical level, a local generalization of the discrete duality symmetry between position and momentum that underlies the structure of quantum mechanics.  相似文献

A geometric interpretation of the duality between two real forms of the complex trigonometric Ruijsenaars-Schneider system is presented. The phase spaces of the systems in duality are viewed as two different models of the same reduced phase space arising from a suitable symplectic reduction of the standard Heisenberg double of U(n). The collections of commuting Hamiltonians of the systems in duality are shown to descend from two families of ‘free’ Hamiltonians on the double which are dual to each other in a Poisson-Lie sense. Our results give rise to a major simplification of Ruijsenaars’ proof of the crucial symplectomorphism property of the duality map.  相似文献

It is shown how a chiral Wess-Zumino-Witten theory with globally defined vertex operators and a one-to-one correspondence between fields and states can be constructed. The Hilbert space of this theory is the direct sum of tensor products of representations of the chiral algebra and finite dimensional internal parameter spaces. On this enlarged space there exists a natural action of Drinfeld's quasi-quantum groupA g, t which commutes with the action of the chiral algebra and plays the rôle of an internal symmetry algebra. TheR matrix describes the braiding of the chiral vertex operators and the coassociator gives rise to a modification of the duality property. For genericq the quasi-quantum group is isomorphic to the coassociative quantum groupU q (g) and thus the duality property of the chiral theory can be restored. This construction has to be modified for the physically relevant case of integer level. The quantum group has to be replaced by the corresponding truncated quasiquantum group, which is not coassociative because of the truncation. This exhibits the truncated quantum group as the internal symmetry algebra of the chiral WZW model, which therefore has only a modified duality property. The case ofg=su(2) is worked out in detail.  相似文献

First we derive stability properties of KMS states and subsequently we derive the KMS condition from stability properties. New results include a convergent perturbation expansion for perturbed KMS states in terms of appropriate truncated functions and stability properties of ground states. Finally we extend the results of Haag, Kastler, Trych-Pohlmeyer by proving that stable states ofL 1-asymptotically abelian systems which satisfy a weak three point cluster property are automatically KMS states. This last theorem gives an almost complete characterization of KMS states, ofL 1-asymptotic abelian systems, by stability and cluster properties (a slight discrepancy can occur for infinite temperature states).Supported during this research by the Norwegian Research Council for Science and Humanities  相似文献

Under natural conditions (such as split property and geometric modular action of wedge algebras) it is shown that the unitary equivalence class of the net of local (von Neumann) algebras in the vacuum sector associated to double cones with bases on a fixed space-like hyperplane completely determines an algebraic QFT model. More precisely, if for two models there is a unitary connecting all of these algebras, then — without assuming that this unitary also connects their respective vacuum states or spacetime symmetry representations — it follows that the two models are equivalent. This result might be viewed as an algebraic version of the celebrated theorem of Rudolf Haag about problems regarding the so-called “interaction-picture” in QFT. Original motivation of the author for finding such an algebraic version came from conformal chiral QFT. Both the chiral case as well as a related conjecture about standard half-sided modular inclusions will be also discussed.  相似文献
