Dynamical behavior of nonlinear oscillator under combined parametric and forcing excitation, which includes van der Pol damping, is very complex. In this paper, Melnikov'smethod is used to study the heteroclinic orbit bifurcations, subharmonic bifurcations and chaos in this system. Smale horseshoes and chaotic motions can occur from odd subharmonic bifurcation of infinite order in this system for various resonant cases. Finally the numerical computing method is used to study chaotic motions of this system. The results achieved reveal some new phenomena.  相似文献

An asymmetric nonlinear oscillator representative of the finite forced dynamics of a structural system with initial curvature is used as a model system to show how the combined use of numerical and geometrical analysis allows deep insight into bifurcation phenomena and chaotic behaviour in the light of the system global dynamics.Numerical techniques are used to calculate fixed points of the response and bifurcation diagrams, to identify chaotic attractors, and to obtain basins of attraction of coexisting solutions. Geometrical analysis in control-phase portraits of the invariant manifolds of the direct and inverse saddles corresponding to unstable periodic motions is performed systematically in order to understand the global attractor structure and the attractor and basin bifurcations.  相似文献

In this study we examine the global dynamics associated with a generic two-degree-of-freedom (2-DOF), coupled nonlinear system that is externally excited. The method of averaging is used to obtain the second order approximation of the response of the system in the presence of one-one internal resonance and subharmonic external resonance. This system can describe a variety of physical phenomena such as the motion of an initially deflected shallow arch, pitching vibrations in a nonlinear vibration absorber, nonlinear response of suspended cables etc. Using a perturbation method developed by Kovai and Wiggins (1992), we show the existence of Silnikov type homoclinic orbits which may lead to chaotic behavior in this system. Here two different cases are examined and conditions are obtained for the existence of Silnikov type chaos. An earlier version of this paper was presented in the workshop on Applications of Pattern Formation at the Fields Institute of Mathematical Sciences, Waterloo, Canada, March 1993.  相似文献

The dynamic behavior of a harmonically excited, preloaded mechanical oscillator with dead-zone nonlinearity is described quantiatively. The governing strongly nonlinear differential equation is solved numerically. Damping coefficient-force ratio maps for two different values of the excitation frequency have been formed and the boundaries of the regions of different motion types are determined. The results have been compared with the results of the forced Duffing's equation available in the literature in order to identify the differences between cubic and dead-zone nonlinearities. Period-doubling bifurcations, which take place with a change of any of the system parameters, have been found to be the most common route to chaos. Such bifurcations follow the scaling rule of Feigenbaum. b half length of the clearance.  相似文献

We consider an autoparametric system consisting of an oscillator coupled with an externally excited subsystem. The oscillator and the subsystem are in one-to-one internal resonance. The excited subsystem is in primary resonance. The method of second-order averaging is used to obtain a set of autonomous equations of the second-order approximations to the externally excited system with autoparametric resonance. The Šhilnikov-type homoclinic orbits and chaotic dynamics of the averaged equations are studied in detail. The global bifurcation analysis indicates that there exist the heteroclinic bifurcations and the Šhilnikov-type homoclinic orbits in the averaged equations. The results obtained above mean the existence of the amplitude-modulated chaos for the Smale horseshoe sense in the externally excited system with autoparametric resonance. Furthermore, a detailed bifurcation analysis of the dynamic (periodic and chaotic) solutions of the averaged equations is presented. Nine branches of dynamic solutions are found. Two of these branches emerge from two Hopf bifurcations and the other seven are isolated. The limit cycles undergo symmetry-breaking, cyclic-fold and period-doubling bifurcations, whereas the chaotic attractors undergo attractor-merging and boundary crises. Simultaneous occurrence of the limit cycle and chaotic attractors, homoclinic orbits, intermittency chaos and homoclinic explosions are also observed.  相似文献

Both the local and global bifurcations of a parametrically andexternally excited simply supported rectangular thin plate are analyzed. The formulas of the thin plate are derived from the vonKármán equation and Galerkin's method. The method ofmultiple scales is used to find the averaged equations. The numericalsimulation of local bifurcation is given. The theory of normal form, based on the averaged equations, is used to obtain the explicitexpressions of normal form associated with a double zero and a pair ofpurely imaginary eigenvalues from the Maple program. On the basis of thenormal form, global bifurcation analysis of a parametrically andexternally excited rectangular thin plate is given by the globalperturbation method developed by Kovacic and Wiggins. The chaotic motionof the thin plate is found by numerical simulation.  相似文献

Global bifurcations and chaos in modal interactions of an imperfect circular plate with one-to-one internal resonance are investigated. The case of primary resonance, in which an excitation frequency is near natural frequencies, is considered. The damping force is not included in the analysis. The method of multiple scales is used to obtain an autonomous system from a non-autonomous system of ordinary differential equations governing non-linear oscillations of an imperfect circular plate. The Melnikov's method for heteroclinic orbits of the autonomous system is used to obtain the criteria for chaotic motion. It is shown that the existence of heteroclinic orbits in the unperturbed system implies chaos arising from breaking of heteroclinic orbits under perturbation. The validity of the result is checked numerically. It is also observed numerically that chaos can appear due to breaking of invariant tori under perturbation.  相似文献

An investigation is presented into the transfer of energy from high- to low-frequency modes. The method of averaging is used to analyze the response of a two-degree-of-freedom system with widely spaced frequencies and cubic nonlinearities to a principal parametric resonance of the high-frequency mode. The conditions under which energy can be transferred from high- to low-frequency modes, as observed in the experiments, are determined. The interactions between the widely separated modes result in various bifurcations, the coexistence of multiple attractors, and chaotic attractors. The results show that damping may be destabilizing. The analytical results are validated by numerically solving the original system.  相似文献

We consider a modified van der Pol–Duffing electronic circuit, focusing on the case where a Hopf-pitchfork bifurcation takes places. The analysis of this bifurcation is a simple way to detect andcharacterize purely three-dimensional behaviour (an oscillatory regimein three variables, quasiperiodic motion, etc.).The normal formanalysis provides the classification of different kinds ofHopf-pitchfork bifurcation, organized according to some degeneratecases. One of these degenerate cases is analyzed, by considering acodimension-three unfolding of a reflectionally symmetric planar vectorfield. Later, the implications for three-dimensional flows arepresented. Unlike another degenerate Hopf-pitchfork bifurcationsexhibited by the system, the one studied here does not involvequasiperiodic behaviour, so that the complexity related to quasiperiodicmotion is not present.  相似文献

We studied the response of fractional-order van de Pol oscillator to Gaussian white noise excitation in this letter. An equivalent integral-order nonlinear stochastic system is obtained to replace the given system based on the principle of minimum mean-square error. Through stochastic averaging, an averaged Itô equation is deduced. We obtained the Fokker-Planck-Kolmogorov equation connected to the averaged Itô equation and solved it to yield the approximate stationary response of the system. The analytical solution is confirmed by using Monte Carlo simulation.  相似文献

The response of a single-machine quasi-infinite busbar system to the simultaneous occurrence of principal parametric resonance and subharmonic resonance of order one-half is investigated. By numerical simulations we show the existence of oscillatory solutions (limit cycles), period-doubling bifurcations, chaos, and unbounded motions (loss of synchronism). The method of multiple scales is used to derive a second-order analytical solution that predicts (a) the onset of period-doubling bifurcations, which is a precursor to chaos and unbounded motions (loss of synchronism), and (b) saddle-node bifurcations, which may be precursors to loss of synchronism.  相似文献

Global bifurcations and multi-pulse chaotic dynamics for a simply supported rectangular thin plate are studied by the extended Melnikov method. The rectangular thin plate is subject to transversal and in-plane excitation.A two-degree-of-freedom nonlinear nonautonomous system governing equations of motion for the rectangular thin plate is derived by the von Karman type equation and the Galerkin approach.A one-toone internal resonance is considered. An averaged equation is obtained with a multi-scale method. After transforming the averaged equation into a standard form, the extended Melnikov method is used to show the existence of multi-pulse chaotic dynamics, which can be used to explain the mechanism of modal interactions of thin plates.A method for calculating the Melnikov function is given without an explicit analytical expression of homoclinic orbits.Furthermore, restrictions on the damping, excitation, and detuning parameters are obtained, under which the multi-pulse chaotic dynamics is expected. The results of numerical simulations are also given to indicate the existence of small amplitude multi-pulse chaotic responses for the rectangular thin plate.  相似文献

Global bifurcations and multi-pulse chaotic motions of flexible multi-beam structures derived from an L-shaped beam resting on a vibrating base are investigated considering one to two internal resonance and principal resonance. Base on the exact modal functions and the orthogonality conditions of global modes, the PDEs of the structure including both nonlinear coupling and nonlinear inertia are discretized into a set of coupled autoparametric ODEs by using Galerkin’s technique. The method of multiple scales is applied to yield a set of autonomous equations of the first order approximations to the response of the dynamical system. A generalized Melnikov method is used to study global dynamics for the “resonance case”. The present analysis indicates multi-pulse chaotic motions result from the existence of Šilnikov’s type of homoclinic orbits and the critical parameter surface under which the system may exhibit chaos in the sense of Smale horseshoes are obtained. The global results are finally interpreted in terms of the physical motion of such flexible multi-beam structure and the dynamical mechanism on chaotic pattern conversion between the localized mode and the coupled mode are revealed.  相似文献

Two classes of forced vibration system with both square and cubic nonlinear terms are treated as Hamiltonian integrable systems under small perturbation. The Melnikov's functions are given. Thus the necessary condition for induction of chaos in the systems is obtained.  相似文献

This paper presents the analysis of the global bifurcations and chaotic dynamics for the nonlinear nonplanar oscillations of a cantilever beam subjected to a harmonic axial excitation and transverse excitations at the free end. The governing nonlinear equations of nonplanar motion with parametric and external excitations are obtained. The Galerkin procedure is applied to the partial differential governing equation to obtain a two-degree-of-freedom nonlinear system with parametric and forcing excitations. The resonant case considered here is 2:1 internal resonance, principal parametric resonance-1/2 subharmonic resonance for the in-plane mode and fundamental parametric resonance–primary resonance for the out-of-plane mode. The parametrically and externally excited system is transformed to the averaged equations by using the method of multiple scales. From the averaged equation obtained here, the theory of normal form is applied to find the explicit formulas of normal forms associated with a double zero and a pair of pure imaginary eigenvalues. Based on the normal form obtained above, a global perturbation method is utilized to analyze the global bifurcations and chaotic dynamics in the nonlinear nonplanar oscillations of the cantilever beam. The global bifurcation analysis indicates that there exist the heteroclinic bifurcations and the Silnikov type single-pulse homoclinic orbit in the averaged equation for the nonlinear nonplanar oscillations of the cantilever beam. These results show that the chaotic motions can occur in the nonlinear nonplanar oscillations of the cantilever beam. Numerical simulations verify the analytical predictions.  相似文献

A method for controlling nonlinear dynamics and chaos previouslydeveloped by the authors is applied to the classical Duffing oscillator. The method, which consists in choosing the best shape of externalperiodic excitations permitting to avoid the transverse intersection ofthe stable and unstable manifolds of the hilltop saddle, is firstillustrated and then applied by using the Melnikov method foranalytically detecting homoclinic bifurcations. Attention is focused onoptimal excitations with a finite number of superharmonics, because theyare theoretically performant and easy to reproduce. Extensive numericalinvestigations aimed at confirming the theoretical predictions andchecking the effectiveness of the method are performed. In particular, the elimination of the homoclinic tangency and the regularization offractal basins of attraction are numerically verified. The reduction ofthe erosion of the basins of attraction is also investigated in detail, and the paper ends with a study of the effects of control on delayingcross-well chaotic attractors.  相似文献

The structure of the density profiles in stationary plane shock waves in a vibrationally excited gas is investigated. For self-similar solutions a bifurcation diagram is plotted in the parametric “traveling wave velocity—degree of nonequilibrium” plane. The bifurcation boundaries of the domains of existence of the structures of different types are analytically derived. It is shown that weak plane shock waves are unstable, accelerate, and break down into a sequence of pulses or-at a fairly high pumping rate-waves with nonzero asymptotics, whose amplitude and propagation velocity are independent of the initial disturbance and are determined by the parameters of the medium itself.  相似文献

Nonlinear flexural vibrations of a rectangular plate with uniform stretching are studied for the case when it is harmonically excited with forces acting normal to the midplane of the plate. The physical phenomena of interest here arise when the plate has two distinct linear modes of vibration with nearly the same natural frequency. It is shown that, depending on the spatial distribution of the external forces, the plate can undergo harmonic motions either in one of the two individual modes or in a mixed-mode. Stable single-mode and mixed-mode solutions can also coexist over a wide range in the amplitudes and frequency of excitation. For low damping levels, the presence of Hopf bifurcations in the mixed-mode response leads to complicated amplitude-modulated dynamics including period doubling bifurcations, chaos, coexistence of multiple chaotic motions, and crisis, whereby the chaotic attractors suddenly disappear and the plate resumes small amplitude harmonic motions in a single-mode. Numerical results are presented specifically for 1 : 1 resonance in the (1, 2) and (3, 1) plate modes.  相似文献

The behavior of the escape driven oscillator at the 2T-periodic subharmonic resonance is considered, and the mechanism of generating different fractal patterns of the basins of attraction of coexisting attractors, as well as its effects on the unpredictable asymptotic system behaviors, are the main points of interest. The analysis is based on the numerical study of the sudden qualitative changes of the structure of basin-phase portraits, the changes implied by multi global bifurcations. Attention is focused on two qualitatively different regions of control space: the region prior to the subcritical flip bifurcation, where all three attractors (2T-periodic, T-periodic and the attractor at infinity) coexist, and the region after the bifurcation, where only two attractors (2T-periodic and the attractor at infinity) coexist. In particular, the concept of the global (homoclinic and heteroclinic) bifurcations is extended to the latter region, where the arising flip saddle (instead of the direct saddle) is involved in the events. The possible forms of unpredictable outcomes, which arise in both regions of control parameters, are pointed out.  相似文献
