We study connections between continued fractions of type J and spectral properties of second order difference operators with complex coefficients. It is known that the convergents of a bounded J-fraction are diagonal Padé approximants of the Weyl function of the corresponding difference operator and that a bounded J-fraction converges uniformly to the Weyl function in some neighborhood of infinity. In this paper we establish convergence in capacity in the unbounded connected component of the resolvent set of the difference operator and specify the rate of convergence. Furthermore, we show that the absence of poles of Padé approximants in some subdomain implies already local uniform convergence. This enables us to verify the Baker–Gammel–Wills conjecture for a subclass of Weyl functions. For establishing these convergence results, we study the ratio and the nth root asymptotic behavior of Padé denominators of bounded J-fractions and give relations with the Green function of the unbounded connected component of the resolvent set. In addition, we show that the number of “spurious” Padé poles in this set may be bounded.  相似文献

The nested multivariate Padé approximants were recently introduced. In the case of two variablesxandy, they consist in applying the Padé approximation with respect to y to the coefficients of the Padé approximation with respect tox. The principal advantage of the method is that the computation only involves univariate Padé approximation. This allows us to obtain uniform convergence where the classical multivariate Padé approximants fail to converge.  相似文献

Using a convergence theorem for Fourier–Padé approximants constructed from orthogonal polynomials on the unit circle, we prove an analogue of Hadamard's theorem for determining the radius of m-meromorphy of a function analytic on the unit disk and apply this to the location of poles of the reciprocal of Szeg functions.  相似文献

In a previous paper, the author introduced a class of multivariate rational interpolants, which are called optimal Padé-type approximants (OPTA). The main goal of this paper is to extend classical results on convergence both in measure and in capacity of sequences of Padé approximants to the multivariate case using OPTA. To this end, we obtain some estimations of the size of multivariate polynomial lemniscates in terms of the Hausdorff content, which we also think are of some interest.  相似文献

Using Nuttall's compact formula for the [n, n − 1] Pad'e approximant, the authors show that there is a natural connection between the Padé approximants of a series of Stieltjes and orthogonal polynomials. In particular, we obtain the precise error formulas. The [n, n − 1] Padé approximant in this case is just a Gaussian quadrature of the Stieltjes integral. Hence, analysis of the error is now possible and under very mild conditions it is shown that the [n, n + j], j − 1, Padé approximants converge to the Stieltjes integral.  相似文献

In this paper, a new approach to construct rational interpolants to functions of several variables is considered. These new families of interpolants, which in fact are particular cases of the so-called Padé-type approximants (that is, rational interpolants with prescribed denominators), extend the classical Padé approximants (for the univariate case) and provide rather general extensions of the well-known Montessus de Ballore theorem for several variables. The accuracy of these approximants and the sharpness of our convergence results are analyzed by means of several examples.  相似文献

The notion of partial Padé approximant is generalized to that of general order multivariate partial Newton-Padé approximant. Previously introduced multivariate Padé-type approximants are recaptured as special cases so that it is a true and unifying generalization. The last section contains numerical results for the bivariate Beta function.  相似文献

A general method for obtaining rational approximations to formal power series is defined and studied. This method is based on approximate quadrature formulas. Newton-Cotes and Gauss quadrature methods are used. It is shown that Padé approximants and the ε-algorithm are related to Gaussian formulas while linear summation processes are related to Newton-Cotes formulas. An example is exhibited which shows that Padé approximation is not always optimal. An application to et is studied and a method for Laplace transform inversion is proposed.  相似文献

Recently, Brezinski has proposed to use Wynn's ε-algorithm in order to reduce the Gibbs phenomenon for partial Fourier sums of smooth functions with jumps, by displaying very convincing numerical experiments. In the present paper we derive analytic estimates for the error corresponding to a particular class of hypergeometric functions, and obtain the rate of column convergence for such functions, possibly perturbed by another sufficiently differentiable function. We also analyze the connection to Padé–Fourier and Padé–Chebyshev approximants, including those recently studied by Kaber and Maday.  相似文献

ADM-Padé technique is a combination of Adomian decomposition method (ADM) and Padé approximants. We solve two nonlinear lattice equations using the technique which gives the approximate solution with higher accuracy and faster convergence rate than using ADM alone. Bell-shaped solitary solution of Belov–Chaltikian (BC) lattice and kink-shaped solitary solution of the nonlinear self-dual network equations (SDNEs) are presented. Comparisons are made between approximate solutions and exact solutions to illustrate the validity and the great potential of the technique.  相似文献

An approach to the application of Dzyadyk's generalized moment representations in problems of construction and investigation of the Padé-Chebyshev approximants is developed. With its help, certain properties of the Padé-Chebyshev approximants of a class of functions that is a natural analog of the class of Markov functions are studied. In particular, it is proved that the poles of the Padé-Chebyshev approximants of these functions lie outside their domain of analyticity.Translated from Ukrainskii Matematicheskii Zhurnal, Vol. 42, No. 6, pp. 762–766, June, 1990.  相似文献

Summary In this paper, we continue our study of the location of the zeros and poles of general Padé approximants toe z . We state and prove here new results for the asymptotic location of the normalized zeros and poles for sequences of Padé approximants toe z , and for the asymptotic location of the normalized zeros for the associated Padé remainders toe z . In so doing, we obtain new results for nontrivial zeros of Whittaker functions, and also generalize earlier results of Szegö and Olver.Research supported in part by the Air Force Office of Scientific Research under Grant AFOSR-74-2688Research supported in part by the Air Force Office of Scientific Research under Grant AFOSR-74-2729, and by the Energy Research and Development Administration (ERDA) under Grant EY-76-S-02-2075  相似文献

This paper is the continuation of a work initiated in [P. Sablonnière, An algorithm for the computation of Hermite–Padé approximations to the exponential function: divided differences and Hermite–Padé forms. Numer. Algorithms 33 (2003) 443–452] about the computation of Hermite–Padé forms (HPF) and associated Hermite–Padé approximants (HPA) to the exponential function. We present an alternative algorithm for their computation, based on the representation of HPF in terms of integral remainders with B-splines as Peano kernels. Using the good properties of discrete B-splines, this algorithm gives rise to a great variety of representations of HPF of higher orders in terms of HPF of lower orders, and in particular of classical Padé forms. We give some examples illustrating this algorithm, in particular, another way of constructing quadratic HPF already described by different authors. Finally, we briefly study a family of cubic HPF.  相似文献

We study Hermite–Padé approximation of the so-called Nikishin systems of functions. In particular, the set of multi-indices for which normality is known to take place is considerably enlarged as well as the sequences of multi-indices for which convergence of the corresponding simultaneous rational approximants takes place. These results are applied to the study of the convergence properties of simultaneous quadrature rules of a given function with respect to different weights.  相似文献

The magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) viscous flow due to a shrinking sheet is examined analytically. The series solution is obtained using the Adomian decomposition method (ADM) coupled with Padé approximants to handle the condition at infinity. The numerical solutions agree very well with the results by the homotopy analysis method.  相似文献

Polynomial moments are often used for the computation of Gauss quadrature to stabilize the numerical calculation of the orthogonal polynomials, see [W. Gautschi, Computational aspects of orthogonal polynomials, in: P. Nevai (Ed.), Orthogonal Polynomials-Theory and Practice, NATO ASI Series, Series C: Mathematical and Physical Sciences, vol. 294. Kluwer, Dordrecht, 1990, pp. 181–216 [6]; W. Gautschi, On the sensitivity of orthogonal polynomials to perturbations in the moments, Numer. Math. 48(4) (1986) 369–382 [5]; W. Gautschi, On generating orthogonal polynomials, SIAM J. Sci. Statist. Comput. 3(3) (1982) 289–317 [4]] or numerical resolution of linear systems [C. Brezinski, Padé-type approximation and general orthogonal polynomials, ISNM, vol. 50, Basel, Boston, Stuttgart, Birkhäuser, 1980 [3]]. These modified moments can also be used to accelerate the convergence of sequences to a real or complex numbers if the error satisfies some properties as done in [C. Brezinski, Accélération de la convergence en analyse numérique, Lecture Notes in Mathematics, vol. 584. Springer, Berlin, New York, 1977; M. Prévost, Padé-type approximants with orthogonal generating polynomials, J. Comput. Appl. Math. 9(4) (1983) 333–346]. In this paper, we use Legendre modified moments to accelerate the convergence of the sequence Hn-log(n+1) to the Euler's constant γ. A formula for the error is given. It is proved that it is a totally monotonic sequence. At last, we give applications to the arithmetic property of γ.  相似文献

In this paper, we study asymptotic properties of rational functions that interpolate the exponential function. The interpolation is performed with respect to a triangular scheme of complex conjugate points lying in bounded rectangular domains included in the horizontal strip |Im z|<2π. Moreover, the height of these domains cannot exceed some upper bound which depends on the type of rational functions. We obtain different convergence results and precise estimates for the error function in compact sets of that generalize the classical properties of Padé approximants to the exponential function. The proofs rely on, among others, Walsh's theorem on the location of the zeros of linear combinations of derivatives of a polynomial and on Rolle's theorem for real exponential polynomials in the complex domain.  相似文献

In this paper, the differential transform method is proposed for solving non-linear oscillatory systems. These solutions do not exhibit periodicity, which is the characteristic of oscillatory systems. A modification of the differential transform method, based on the use of Padé approximants, is proposed. We use alternative technique by which the solution obtained by the differential transform method is made periodic. The method is described and illustrated with examples. The results reveal that the method is very effective and convenient.  相似文献
