This paper presents observation of quantum Confined Stark effect induced by the surface acoustic waves (SAW) propagating in multiple quantum well (MQW) layers. It also presents the evidence for the first time of SAW induced birefringence under surface normal mode operation in MQWs. MQW layers usually do not exhibit significant birefringence when the light is normally incident. The launching of surface acoustic waves in In0.21Ga0.79As-GaAs MQW layers produces significantly different strain along the direction of propagation (y) as compared to the lateral direction (x), and this in turn results in differential absorption coefficient (= x - y) and birefringence (nbir). The enhanced birefringence due to excitonic effect depends on the magnitude of RF power exciting the SAW transducer. An interdigitated transducer operating at 119 MHz with an aperture (w) to wavelength () ratio of 25 was used to launch the surface acoustic waves. Typical values of n are in the range of 0.01-0.02 for polarized light at 1.01 m wavelength when the RF power is varied between 0.5-1.2 Watt. Computations of n are in agreement with experimental data. The SAW propagation also induces a perpendicular component Ez of electric field which results in conventional Stark effect producing absorption and index changes in MQWs that vary as a function of SAW power.  相似文献

The effect of radiation on the combined free and forced convection flow of an electrical conducting viscous fluid through an open-ended vertical channel in slip flow regime and permeated by a constant magnetic field in transverse direction has been considered. The temperature on the walls has been supposed to vary linearly with distance. The second-order Stark shift of the components of the hyperfine structure of the transition1 g + ( = 0,j = 13, 15) 3 ou + ( = 43,j = 12, 16) (of molecular iodine have been studied by means of saturated absorption spectroscopy in an external cell with the I2 vapour located in an electric field. The anisotropic polarizabilities of the upper and lower levels together with the difference between the isotropic polarizabilities of the levels of the transition have been obtained.  相似文献

The half-width and cross-relaxation parameter are calculated for a series of rotational transitions on the basis of a rigorous theory taking account of the correlational broadening of the doublet components. The absorption of the doublet lines of the transition J = 4 5 for the system NH3-N2 and the transition J = 5 6 for NH3-NH3 is analyzed. The potentials of an electromagnetic field of multipoles in a dielectric, which is realized by a dielectric sphere having a perfectly conducting surface, are derived. The diagonal values of the energy for thez component of the angular momentum and the square of the angular momentum of the field are determined and also the ratio between thez component of the angular momentum and the energy and the ratio between the square of the angular momentum and the square of the energy. It is shown that the total angular momentum can be divided in the usual way into orbital and spin parts but that these parts cannot be interpreted as the orbital and spin angular momentum because their eigenvalues cannot be the eigenvalues of any operator of infinitesimal rotation. In the commutation rules of a multipole field the vector character of the field is to a certain extent suppressed and the spin of the photon in a state with a certain value of the energy, parityz component of the angular momentum and the square of the angular momentum is not defined.

In a Riemannian space-time, the difference between the third-order tensor potentialH of the Riemann tensor (presented in a precedent paper) and the Lanczos generating function of the Weyl tensor is here shown to be characterized by a vectorV , obtained by contractionH . The significant role of such a vector, in the context of general relativity, is then discussed. Particular attention is paid to the scalar potential which characterizes the irrotational part ofV : such a scalar field satisfies a space-time wave equation of the Poisson type. Weak fields are also considered: in the particular case of a static metric, the scalar is found to be proportional to the classic Newtonian potential.This work was done in the sphere of activity of the C.N.R. Zero field SR spectra from Cr85Mo15 are well described by the sum of a lightly damped (0.02s–1<1<0.2s–1) and a heavily damped (2s–1<2<15s–1) exponential. The temperature dependence of these components is discussed in relation to the condensation of the incommensurate spin density wave and the onset of the antiferromagnetic state in this Cr-like alloy below TN=120K. Evidence is presented for the nucleation of the spin density wave at temperatures greater than 1.5TN.  相似文献

The amplification of light signals (angular frequency S in some isotropic media (D2O, fused silica, and Schott type SF10 glasses) by noncollinear phase-matched parametric four-photon interaction 1+2S+1 is studied theoretically. Computer simulations are carried out for fundamental and second-harmonic pump pulses of a mode-locked Nd: glass laser. Degenerate interaction (wavelength 1=2=1054nm or 527 nm) and nondegenerate interaction (1=1054nm, 2=527 nm are considered. Characteristic phase-matching parameters and gain parameters versus wavelength are determined. Limitations by spectral bandwidth, optical absorption, optical damage, self-phase modulation, self-focusing and stimulated Raman scattering are analysed.  相似文献

The first part of the paper gives a general equation for triple-crystal arrangement with perfect crystals on the assumption that the third crystal is rotated. It is shown that in the case of perfect crystals the shape of the reflection curve is practically independent of the vertical divergence. The case of mosaic crystals is also solved and the possibility of rotation by other than the third crystal is considered. A method is proposed for investigating the imperfection of a crystal which is different from methods used up to now. The paper is supplemented by some experimental results.

We consider some models of classical statistical mechanics which admit an investigation by means of the theory of dominant ground states. Our models are related to the Gibbs ensemble for the multidimensional SOS model with symmetric constraints x m/2. The main result is that for 0, where 0 does not depend onm, the structure of thermodynamic phases in the model is determined by dominant ground states: for an evenm a Gibbs state is unique and for an oddm the number of space-periodic pure Gibbs states is two.  相似文献

A measuring system including an oversized cavity resonator operating in the TE01 mode for the determination of the complex permittivity - j of low-loss liquids at frequencies of about 36 GHz is described. While is obtained by wavelength measurements in the filled and the empty resonator, is determined from the variation of the Q factor of the filled resonator with the length of the dielectric sample. The Q factors of values of about 2·104 to 105 can be measured automatically by means of a desk calculator which controls the frequency and collects the digitized values of the detector output voltage. By means of the calculator, the Q factors of the resonator are determined by fitting analytical (Lorentzian) resonance curves to the measurement data. and the Q factor for zero sample length are calculated according to Göttmann's methods.  相似文献

Infrared (ir) emissions from a TEA-CO2-laser-pumped NH3 laser are reported. Superfluorescent emissions and selective single-line oscillations have been obtained in the range from 11 to 13 m. The results make possible the design of a NH3 Stark cell allowing a 1 GHz shift of the 10.78 m NH3 emission line.  相似文献

Removing a black hole conic singularity by means of Kruskal representation is equivalent to imposing extensibility on the Kasner–Fronsdal local isometric embedding of the corresponding black hole geometry. Allowing for globally non-trivial embeddings, living in Kaluza–Klein-like M 5 × S 1 (rather than in standard Minkowski M 6 ) and parametrized by some wave number k, extensibility can be achieved for apparently forbidden frequencies in the range 1 (k) 2 (k). As k 0, 1, 2 (0) H (e.g., H = 1/4M in the Schwarzschild case) such that the Hawking–Gibbons limit is fully recovered. The various Kruskal sheets are then viewed as slices of the Kaluza–Klein background. Euclidean k discreteness, dictated by imaginary time periodicity, is correlated with flux quantization of the underlying embedding gauge field.  相似文献

The high resolution Stark spectra of the singly deuterated methanol isotope, CH3OD, have been studied using the HCN laser with Stark fields up to approximately 60 000 V/cm. Numerous families of absorption lines have been observed in both parallel and perpendicular polarizations, resulting in the following assignments: with the 311 m line – J K = 181 180 E 2, t = 1; and with the 337 m line – J k = 64 53 E 2, t = 0 and J K = 146 135 A, t = 1. Zero-field frequencies for the assigned transitions are in agreement with Fourier transform measurements and those calculated from the available molecular constants.  相似文献

Within the framework of the conditions ; » –1 ( –1 is the mean time of momentum relaxation), the coefficient of absorption () of a weak electromagnetic wave by the free carriers of a polar semiconductor is calculated in the presence of a strong wave (of frequency ), for arbitrary values of and . Photon absorption by band electrons is due to these latter interacting with optical phonons (of frequency o). The problem is solved by using an analogous approach to the theory of the linear Kubo reaction. The results are valid in the absence of electron heating, when a strong wave only influences the scattering probability. The appearance of a photostimulated tail of absorption is predicted for < o, including the jump () for ( – o + ) 0T as well as peaks in the function () at the points s=s (s=1, 2, 3,...). The vapour jets of electrode material of a short-time high-intensity electric discharge
The velocity of vapours from electrodes and the values of the electric gradient of the channel were measured. An explanation is given of the dependence of the discharge rate of the vapours on the electrode material and the thermal origin of the jets is confirmed. The validity of the results is shown for the case of a different experimental arrangement, or the formation of other types of discharges on electrodes.
