The adsorption of acetic acid on a proton-ordered water ice surface is modeled using periodic plane-waves density-functional theory. The structures of acetic acid adsorbed as a monomer or oligomers, hydrated or not, are calculated through gradient optimization. The resulting quantum electronic density of states are compared to metastable impact electron spectroscopy (MIES) results and lead to selection of the most plausible structures of acetic acid on water ice. Hypotheses are formulated for the structure of the acid film growing on the ice surface including mainly cyclic dimers and hydrated forms. Adsorptions of single water molecules on acetic acid crystal surfaces are also studied after optimization of the acetic acid crystal bulk and surface structure. More comparisons with spectroscopic studies are proposed in the accompanying paper. 相似文献

The hypothesis that supercooled water consists of two distinct liquid phases has been explored on the basis of their ability to hydrate nonpolar (Xe) and electrolytic (LiCl) species. Xe incorporated in the bulk of amorphous solid water survives in the deeply supercooled regime above the glass-transition temperature of 136 K and is finally dehydrated at 165 K, whereas LiCl dissolves only in the liquid phase appearing above 165 K. The second liquid phase connects with normal water as inferred from high (poor) solubility of LiCl (Xe). This result also suggests that decoupling of translational diffusion and viscosity in the deeply supercooled regime is caused by domain structures of the two liquid phases formed during a possible liquid-liquid transition. 相似文献

The binding of labeled antibodies to hapten substituted monolayers at the air/water interface has been studied by means of fluorescence microscopy. Haptens with various spacer lengths between the epitope and a hydrocarbon chain, anchoring the molecule to the interface, have been synthesized. With DMPC,a unspecific binding has been shown to predominate over specific binding due to electrostatic interactions. At high surface pressures the bound antibody is detached because of steric interference with the lipid head groups. Due to a reduction of electrostatic interactions, no unspecific binding is observed to monolayers of cholesterol, which carries a small dipole moment. Mixed monolayers of cholesterol and DMPC separate into two fluid phases, with preferential antibody binding to the cholesterol-enriched phase. 相似文献

利用溴化1-丁基-3-甲基咪唑离子液体/碳酸钠溶液双水相体系,实现了多相层流液液萃取.以具有较高折射率的离子液体为液芯,较低折射率的盐溶液为包层,实现了液液波导吸光度检测.据此建立了一种液液萃取与液液波导检测集成化的微流控分析系统.该系统对甲酚红试样的萃取率在93%以上,对甲酚红试样检测的线性范围为0.01~0.40 mg/m L,相对标准偏差为3.4%(n=11),检出限为3.8μg/m L(3σ).该系统将萃取分离与液液波导长光程吸光度检测集成在一起,为拓展吸光度检测在微流控系统中的应用提供了新思路. 相似文献

New RNA interaction interfaces are reported for designing RNA modules for directional supramolecular self-assembly. The new interfaces are generated from existing ones by inserting C-loops between the interaction motifs that mediate supramolecular assembly. C-Loops are new modular motifs recently identified in crystal structures that increase the helical twist of RNA helices in which they are inserted and thus reduce the distance between pairs of loop or loop-receptor motifs from 11 to 9 base-stacking layers while maintaining correct orientation for binding to cognate interaction interfaces. Binding specificities of C-loop-containing molecules for cognate molecules that also have inserted C-loops were found to range up to 20-fold. Binding affinities for most C-loop-containing molecules were generally equal or higher than those for the parent molecules lacking C-loops. 相似文献

An insight into the in situ FTIR spectroscopy method as applied in Electrochemistry is given. The particular aspects inherent to the electrochemical method are described in a concise form. Selected examples cover the results of about the last 8 years, on a variety of systems including carbon monoxide, small organic molecules and double-layer components (hydrogen, anions and water). The experimental data refer mostly to adsorption on well-defined single-crystal surfaces. Analogies and differences with data from the metal/gas interface are discussed. 相似文献

The structure and the interaction potential of monolayers of charged polystyrene microparticles at fluid interfaces have been studied by optical microscopy. Microparticles of different sizes have been studied over a broad range of surface particle densities. The structural characterization is based on the analysis of images obtained by digital optical microscopy. From the experimental images, radial distribution functions, hexagonal bond order correlation functions, and temporal orientational correlation functions have been calculated for different monolayer states at both the air/water and oil/water interfaces. The interaction potential has been calculated from the structure factor using integral equations within the hypernetted chain closure relationship. For particles trapped at the oil-water interface, it was found that, upon increasing the surface coverage, a freezing transition occurs, that leads to the formation of a 2D crystalline structure. We have studied the freezing densities of particle monolayers at the oil/water interface and compared them with Monte Carlo simulation results reported by H. Lo?wen. In contrast, at the air-water interface, freezing is inhibited due to the formation of particle aggregates. 相似文献

Ionic liquids are potential solvents for liquid extraction processes; thermodynamic modeling of liquid-liquid equilibrium (LLE) data is essential for the optimization and operation of these processes. Therefore, ternary LLE data in systems involving ionic liquids have been investigated by several years. In most of the cases, the thermodynamic modeling of these systems has been made using the NRTL model; in some cases, the UNIQUAC model has also been used. The structural parameters of UNIQUAC for ionic liquids have been determined either by empirical correlations or, more recently, through quantum mechanics calculation. This work is a continuation of a recent paper, in which the structural group volume and area parameters for the group-contribution UNIFAC method have been calculated for five ionic liquids following the quantum mechanics approach. In order to optimize the molecular geometry and to calculate the area and volume, the Density Functional Theory (DFT) and the Polarizable Continuum Method (PCM) were used, respectively. The obtained parameters were used to correlate LLE data for fifteen ternary systems, totalizing 155 tie-lines. New interaction parameters were also estimated between the solvent and the ionic liquid functional groups. The results are very satisfactory, with root mean square deviations 0.0037 between experimental and calculated equilibrium mole fractions. 相似文献

The property that liquid-liquid interfaces modify their electrical charge as a function of the composition of the two phases in contact has been used to detect the end-points in a series of acid-base titrations in the aqueous phase. Although the titration curves are not classical in shape, the equivalence points can be located if the solutions are not too dilute. Good results for concentrations down to 10(-3)N have been obtained. The electrode has a fast response. The influence of surface-active substances on the titration has also been investigated. 相似文献

We have studied acid-base interactions at solid-liquid and solid-solid interfaces using interface-sensitive sum frequency generation (SFG) spectroscopy. The shift of the sapphire hydroxyl peak in contact with several polar and nonpolar liquids and polymers was used to determine the interaction energy. The trend in the interaction energies cannot be explained by measuring only water contact angles. Molecular rearrangements at the sapphire interface, to maximize the interaction of the acid-base groups, play a dominant role, and these effects are not accounted for in the current theoretical models. These results provide important insights into understanding adhesion, friction, and wetting on solid interfaces. 相似文献

While the interaction of colloidal particles (sizes in excess of 100 nm) with liquid interfaces may be understood in terms of continuum models, which are grounded in macroscopic properties such as surface and line tensions, the behaviour of nanoparticles at liquid interfaces may be more complex. Recent simulations [D. L. Cheung and S. A. F. Bon, Phys. Rev. Lett. 102, 066103 (2009)] of nanoparticles at an idealised liquid-liquid interface showed that the nanoparticle-interface interaction range was larger than expected due, in part, to the action of thermal capillary waves. In this paper, molecular dynamics simulations of a Lennard-Jones nanoparticle in a binary Lennard-Jones mixture are used to confirm that these previous results hold for more realistic models. Furthermore by including attractive interactions between the nanoparticle and the solvent, it is found that the detachment energy decreases as the nanoparticle-solvent attraction increases. Comparison between the simulation results and recent theoretical predictions [H. Lehle and M. Oettel, J. Phys. Condens. Matter 20, 404224 (2008)] shows that for small particles the incorporation of capillary waves into the predicted effective nanoparticle-interface interaction improves agreement between simulation and theory. 相似文献

Incorporating a metal cation as an integral component of the headgroup of a surfactant--a metallosurfactant--offers a route to concentrate these ions and their associated functionality at interfaces. To reduce the lability of the metal, various chelating or macrocyclic ligands may be employed leading to a family of homologous series of related metallosurfactants with a structural diversity that is arguably broader than is inherently possible with conventional surfactants. This review discusses the small number of key papers that are quantifying the physico-chemical properties of metallosurfactants and highlights their "classical" as well as "non-classical" surfactant behaviour, providing an insight into the structure of micelles and films formed from these novel materials. 相似文献

The interface of two immiscible electrolyte solutions (ITIES) has generated great interest since it can be used to understand several processes in chemistry and biology. The transfer process of ions and organic molecules of environmental and pharmacological importance have been study across the ITIES. In the present work, a small introduction to the study of ITIES is given, as well as the interpretation of the cyclic voltammetric experiments regarding to the transport of an organic cation (TEA+) across the interface. Argon matrix infrared spectra of the complexes formed between formohydroxamic acid, HCONHOH (FHA) and nitrogen have been recorded. The experimental results indicate formation of two isomeric complexes in which the nitrogen atom of the N2 molecule is attached to the NH or OH groups of FHA. Theoretical studies of the structure and spectral characteristics of the complexes were carried out on the MP2 level with the 6-311++G(2d,2p) basis set. The calculated vibrational frequencies for the complexes present in the matrices are in good agreement with the experimental data. 相似文献

Atomic-scale dynamic processes during Cu(100) dissolution/deposition in pure and Cu-containing 0.01 M HCl solution were studied in situ by high-speed electrochemical STM (video-STM). Direct observations of the equilibrium fluctuations at atomic kinks in the steps on the crystal surface due to the local removal/addition of atoms reveal the same anisotropic behavior found previously in Cu-free electrolytes, caused by the influence of the ordered (2 x 2) Cl adlayer on the kink structure. A first quantitative analysis of these fluctuations and interpretation in terms of a local current exchange density was attempted. In addition, observations on the nucleation of vacancy- or ad-rows at terrace corners and within the Cu steps are presented and the relevance of these processes for the macroscopic current density is discussed. 相似文献
