Synthesis of a hexaalkoxybenzo[b]triphenylene mesogen

The synthesis of the first mesogenic hexaalkoxybenzo[b]triphenylene derivative is reported; this compound exhibits a broad columnar liquid crystal phase at temperatures only slightly above room temperature.     

Condensed pyridine bases synthesis of some benzo[b]furo[2,3-c]-, benzo[b]- thieno[2,3-c]-, and benzo[b]selenopheno[2,3-c]-quinolines

Summary Condensation of benzo[b]furan-3(2H-one, benzo[b]thiophen-3(2H)-one and benzo[b]selenophen-3(2H)-one with dimedone gives 2-(3-heteryl)dimedones. Acylation of the latter leads to the corresponding tetracyclic pyrylium salts, from which condensed quinolines are obtained. Some condensed quinoline derivatives are obtained by reaction of 1-oxo-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroheterene[2,3-c]quinolines with sodium borohydride, hydrazine, and hydroxylamine.Translated from Khimiya Geterotsiklicheskikh Soedinenii, No. 3, pp. 321–326, March, 1994.     

Structural controlled pure metallo-triangular assembly through bisterpyridinyl Dibenzo[b,d]thiophene,Dibenzo[b,d]furan and Dibenzo[b,d]carbazole

A novel family of metallocycles was constructed by a one-pot self-assembly of three analogous bis(terpyridine) ligand monomers L1-L3, having different bent angles, with metal ions (Zn²⁺ or Cd²⁺). The dibenzo[b,d]thiophene-containing ligand L3 assembled with the metal ions to form a single trimer, whereas the dibenzo[b,d]furan-containing ligand L2 and dibenzo[b,d]carbazole-containing ligand L1 formed a mixture of trimers and tetramers. Heteroatoms (N, O, S) significantly contributed to the molecular size of the assemblies, owing to the bent angle of the bis-terpyridines ligands.     

Synthesis and Cytotoxicity Studies of Cyclohepta[b]indoles,Benzo[6,7]Cyclohepta[1,2‐b]Indoles,Indeno[1,2‐b]Indoles,and Benzo[a]Carbazoles

Synthesis and biological evaluation of various tricyclic and tetracyclic indoles are described. A number of these compounds possess in vitro activity against human nasopharyngeal carcinoma (HONE‐1) and gastric adenocarcinoma (NUGC‐3) cell lines.     

Syntheses and characterization of four coordination compounds derived from 10,11,12,13-tetrahydro-4,5,9,14-tetraaza-benzo[b]triphenylene and benzene-dicarboxylic acids

[Co₂(TTBT)₄(1,2-BDC)₂] _n ?·?4nH₂O (1), [Pb₂(TTBT)₂(1,3-BDC)₂] _n ?·?nTTBT?·?2nH₂O (2), [Fe(TTBT)(1,4-BDC)(H₂O)] _n (3), and [Zn(TTBT)(1,4-BDC)(H₂O)] _n (4) have been hydrothermally synthesized by self-assembly of TTBT (TTBT?=?10,11,12,13-tetrahydro-4,5,9,14-tetraaza-benzo[b]triphenylene), benzene-dicarboxylic acid ligands 1,2-H₂BDC, 1,3-H₂BDC or 1,4-H₂BDC (1,2-H₂BDC?=?1,2-benzenedicarboxylic acid, 1,3-H₂BDC?=?1,3-benzenedicarboxylic acid, 1,4-H₂BDC?=?1,4-benzenedicarboxylic acid), and various metal salts. Compound 1 has dinuclear cluster units, four dimeric Co₂ units connected to form a 32-membered ring via weak offset π–π interactions, which are further stacked via strong π–π interactions to form a 3-D supramolecular framework. Complex 2 contains 2-D layers with rhombohedral grids, which are connected to a 3-D structure by π–π interactions. 3 and 4 feature 1-D infinite chains, which are further extended by strong π–π interactions and O–H···O hydrogen bonds resulting in 3-D supramolecular architectures. The photoluminescent properties of 2 and 4 have also been investigated.     

Synthesis of anthra[b]thiophenes and benzo[b]naphtho[d]thiophenes

All isomers of the parent anthra[b]thiophenes and benzo[b]naphtho[d]thiophenes, namely anthra[2,3-b]thio-phene, anthra[2,1-b]thiophene, anthra[1,2-b]thiophene, benzo[b]naphtho[2,3-d]thiophene, benzo[b]naphtho[2,1-d]thiophene and benzo[b]naphtho[1,2-d]thiophene were synthesized using a new procedure.     

The synthesis of benzo[b]phenanthro[d]thiophenes and anthra[b]benzo[d]thiophenes

The synthesis of benzo[b]phenanthro[2, 3-d]thiophene ( 5 ), benzo[b]phenanthro[4, 3-d]thiophene ( 6 ), benzo-[b]phenanthro[2, 1-d]thiophene ( 9 ), benzo[b]phenanthro[3, 2-d]thiophene ( 14a ), anthra[1, 2-b]benzo[d]thiophene ( 24 ), anthra[2, 3-b]benzo[d]thiophene ( 29 ) and anthra[2, 1-b]benzo[d]thiophene ( 30 ) is described as well as the preparation of 13-methylbenzo[b]phenanthro[3, 2-d]thiophene ( 14b ).     

Benzo[b]tellurophene, Dibenzo[b,d]tellurophene, and Their Derivatives. (Review)

Data on the synthesis, reactions, crystal structure, and spectral characteristics of benzo[b]tellurophene, dibenzo[b,d]tellurophene, and their derivatives are reviewed and analyzed.     

Synthesis and characterization of oxadisilole fused benzo[b]triphenylene

Palladium-catalyzed [2+2+2] cyclotrimerization reactions between benzyne and oxadisilole fused oxabicyclic alkenes afforded the exo-adducts. Deoxygenation with BF₃·OMe₂ yielded mono- and bis-oxadisilole fused benzo[b]triphenylene. The photophysical properties of the oxadisilole fused benzo[b]triphenylenes were characterized.     

New reaction of benzo[b]thieno[3,2-b]benzo[b]thiophene disulfone

A new reaction of benzo[b]thieno[3,2-b]benzo[b]thiophene disulfone with amines that takes place with opening of one of the thiophene rings and nucleophilic substitution in the heteroaromatic ring at the site of cleavage of the S-C bond was observed. The molecular structures of the products of amination of the disulfone were determined by x-ray diffraction analysis. Hydrolysis and dehydration of the amination products gave derivatives of a new heterocyclic system, viz., benzo[b]-thieno[3,2-e]benzo[c]-1,2-oxathiin. Nucleophilic addition to benzo[b]thieno[2,3-b]benzo[b]thiophene S,S,S′,S′-tetroxide

The reaction of benzo[b]thieno[2,3-b]benzo[b]thiophene S,S,S′,S′-tetroxide with primary and secondary amines and with alcohols gave 10 b-amino- and 10 b-alkoxy-5a, 10b-dihydro-benzo[b]thieno[2,3-b]benzo[b]thiophene S,S,S′,S′-tetroxides. These nucleophilic reagents do not add to benzo[b]thieno[2,3-b]benzo[b]thiophene S,S-dioxide.     

1H NMR spectra of benzo[b]furan,benzo[b]thiophene and benzo[b]selenophene oriented in a lyotropic mesophase

The proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectra of benzo[b]-furan, -thiophene and -selenophene oriented in a potassium laurate lyotropic liquid crystal have been analyzed. Geometrical information has been obtained and compared to previous thermotropic results and various hypothetical models.     

[10b, 10c]Diazapyraceheptylene

The labile [10b, 10c]diazapyraceheptylene 1 was obtained by thermoflash dehydrogenation of a mixture of olefins 5a/b. The ¹H NMR spectrum indicates a strong influence of the 14π-electron periphery. A by-product of the synthesis of 1, i.e., pyrazino[2,1,6-cd:5,4,3-c′d′]dipyrrolizine 6, points to a rearrangement of the diazapyraceheptylene system, which may be frontier orbital controlled.
