Electron-positron production processes occurring in the interaction of 1018–1020 W/cm2 laser radiation with high-Z targets are examined. Computational results are presented for the pair production and the positron yield from the target with allowance for the contribution of pair production processes due to electrons and bremsstrahlung photons. Monte Carlo simulations using the PRIZMA code confirm the estimates obtained. The possible positron yield from high-Z targets irradiated with 102–103 TW laser radiation is estimated to be 109–1011. The fluorescence excitation spectra and polarization of the fluorescence of a bichromophore cooled in a supersonic jet are measured. The bichromophore consists of 2,5-diphenyloxazole (PPO) and 1-(5′-phenyl-1′, 3′-oxazole-2′-yl)-4-(5′-phenyl-1′,3′,4′-oxadiazole-2′-yl)-benzene (POPDP) connected by the methylene bridge -(CH2)-. Based on the analysis of these components and theoretical calculations, it has been proven that the total intramolecular singlet-singlet transfer of the energy of electronic excitation from the energy donor PPO to the acceptor POPDP occurs in a time of 10−12 sec. __________ Translated from Zhurnal Prikladnoi Spektroskopii, Vol. 72, No. 4, pp. 460–463, July–August, 2005.  相似文献

Some aspects of both theoretical and experimental study of the positronium system to probe physics beyond the Standard Model are reviewed. In particular, new experiments to search for the invisible decay of orthopositronium (o-Ps) with the sensitivity in the branching ratio Br(o-Ps → invisible) ≃ 10−8–10−7 are discussed. The experimental technique involves a specially designed high-efficiency pulsed slow positron beam, which is also applicable for other experiments with o-Ps in vacuum. Details of the beam design, as well as the first measurements results are presented. Possible applications of the slow-pulsed positron beam for materials research are discussed. A search for the axioelectric absorption of 5.5-MeV solar axions produced in the p + d → 3He + γ (5.5 MeV) reaction was performed with two BGO detectors placed inside a low-background setup. Constraints on the axion-electron coupling constant were obtained for axions with masses in the (0.1–1.0)-MeV range: g Ae ≤ (1.8–9.0) × 10−7. The solar positron flux from A → e + e+ decay was determined for axions with masses m A > 2m e. Using the existing experimental data on the interplanetary positron flux, a new constraint on the axion-electron coupling constant for axions with masses in the (1.2–5.4)-MeV range was obtained: g Ae ≤ (1–5) × 10−17.  相似文献

In this paper we report our calculations on several important total cross-sections (TCSs) of positron impact on isoelectronic N2 and CO molecules, treated in the complex spherical potential formalism. Basically the total (complete) cross-section Q T consists of elastic and inelastic contributions. Our total inelastic cross-section (Q inel) contains ionization and electronic excitations together with positronium formation. Our goal here is to bifurcate Q inel further to deduce total ionization cross-section, using the ‘complex scattering potential–ionization contribution’ (CSP-ic) method of electron–atom/molecule scattering. The present range of positron energy is 15–2000 eV. All the resulting cross-sections are in a good general accord with the existing data. This work highlights the importance of various scattering channels in e + -N2 and e + -CO interactions at intermediate and high energies.  相似文献

We study the annihilation of a fast positron and a K-electron resulting in the emission of a photon and a second K-electron. It is assumed that all electrons and positrons move in the Coulomb field of the nucleus and that the Coulomb parameter αZ is much less than unity (α=1/137 is the fine-structure constant and Z is the atomic number). The electron-electron interaction, which is responsible for the ejection of the electron by the atom, is taken into account in the first order of perturbation theory. We calculate the differential and total cross sections of the process and construct the ratio of the cross sections of double and single ionization as a function of the energy of the incident positron. The following quantities of shock-compressed liquid krypton are measured behind a plane shock front at pressures up to 90 GPa: compressibility up to densities of 7 g/cm3, brightness (color) temperatures of 6000–24000 K, and electrical conductivities of 40–60000 (Ω·m)−1. X-t diagram methods are used to estimate sound speeds of up to 5.5 km/s at pressures of 30–75 GPa. The optical absorption coefficients in the violet and red (30–300 cm−1) are measured at pressures of 20–90 GPa from the rise in brightness of the shock front luminosity. The spectrum of luminescent F centers generated in high-purity KCl crystals by 7–10.2-eV photons has been measured at 230 K. The pulsed annealing of these centers (250–550 K), as well as the dependence of the efficiency of stable F-center generation on irradiation temperature (80–500 K) has been studied. The efficiencies of F and Cl 3 -center generation are maximum under direct optical creation of self-trapped excitons in the region of the Urbach intrinsicabsorption tail. Besides the exciton decay with formation of F centers and mobile H centers, a high-temperature exciton decay channel which involves creation of cation defects stabilizing the H centers has been revealed. The surface distribution of elements is studied by scanning a 3-MeV proton beam along the surface of a bcc-Fe sample implanted with aluminum ions in the dose interval (1–50) · 1016 cm−2. Ring-shaped regions, up to 30 μm in diameter, with a high density of aluminum, which appear at implantation doses (5–20) · 1016 cm−2, are observed. These regions appear as a result of radiation-stimulated segregation processes. A mechanism based on the existence of a low density of dislocations in the initial crystal is proposed to explain the implanted impurity segregation processes. Pis’ma Zh. éksp. Teor. Anomalies of the dielectric properties of undoped and aluminum-and gallium-doped crystals of Bi12SiO20 are investigated in the frequency and temperature range ν=102–108 Hz and T=300–800 K. Analysis of experimental data on the relaxation of freely moving hot niobium and tungsten clusters shows that they are cooled as a result of radiative emission. The absorption cross sections per atom of niobium and tungsten clusters in the temperature range 3100–3700 K are (4 −7)×10−18 cm2, and the absorption process loses its resonant character at these temperatures. The ion current of adsorbed water molecules is studied experimentally as a function of the frequency of near-IR radiation incident on a surface at frequencies in the intrinsic vibrational bands of the water molecule. The ions are produced by nonequilibrium field surface ionization. The observed band (near one of the combination frequencies) has a width of 100 cm−1 and is shifted relative to the free molecular band by 130 cm−1. Estimates show that the cross section for absorption of the radiation by the adsorbed molecules is 3–4 orders of magnitude larger than for free molecules, as is typical of surface processes. Zh. A pulsed source of positrons has been developed which may be useful for antihydrogen ( ) formation because it is portable when compared to accelerator-based sources. This positron accumulator uses a Penning-style trap to collect moderated positrons from a radioactive source. The positron pulses may be emitted with repetition rates in the range of 50–1000 Hz, which is appropriate for production schemes involving laser-induced recombination. Bunching techniques may be used to vary the width of the positron pulses over the range 30–120 ns (FWHM) to match the width of the antiproton and/or laser pulses. The efficiency of the accumulator increases from ∼ 10% at 100 Hz to ∼ 50% at 1000 Hz. 250 Hz the efficiency is ∼ 25% and the accumulator has delivered up to 8 e+/pulse per mCi of positron activity. This translates into ∼ 1.2 × 105 e+/pulse for a 100 Ci58Co source.  相似文献

A study of recombination kinetics in LiB3O5 (LBO) crystals by time-resolved luminescence and absorption spectroscopy is reported. An investigation of the kinetics of transient optical absorption (TOA) and luminescence under ns-scale electron-beam excitation performed within a broad temperature range of 77–500 K and a 1.2–5-eV spectral interval has established that the specific features in the recombination kinetics observed in LBO involve electronic, B2+, and hole, O, trapping centers. The TOA and luminescence kinetics, as well as their temperature dependence, are interpreted by a model of competing hole centers. Relations connecting the kinetics parameters and the temperature dependence to the parameters of the main LBO point defects are presented. Fiz. Tverd. The distribution of vacancy defects in the surface layers of α-Fe after irradiation with a high-current pulsed electron beam is studied experimentally by unique nuclear-physical methods — low-energy positron annihilation, Rutherford backscattering (RBS), and proton-induced x-ray emission (PIXE). Regions with low local density, which are sources of crater formation on the surface of the irradiated sample, are observed by scanning a proton microbeam. Positron lifetime measurements reveal that as the electron beam power increases, nonequilibrium vacancies tend to be captured by carbon impurity atoms. Pis’ma Zh. éksp. Teor. The complicated form of the cosmic-ray spectrum recorded in the energy range 1017–1020 eV by giant detector arrays is analyzed. It is shown that the spectrum in the region 1018–1019 eV is apparently identical to the injection spectrum with power-law exponent approximately equal to 3.2–3.3. The flat component in the region (3.2–5)×1019 eV is due to the braking of extragalactic protons by relict photons. The spectrum apparently has no blackbody cutoff at energies above 3.2×1019 eV. The semiclassical quantization of cyclotron orbits for two-dimensional Bloch electrons in a coupled two band model with a particle-hole symmetric spectrum is considered. As concrete examples, we study graphene (both mono and bilayer) and boron nitride. The main focus is on wave effects – such as Berry phase and Maslov index – occurring at order (h/2p)\hbar in the semiclassical quantization and producing non-trivial shifts in the resulting Landau levels. Specifically, we show that the index shift appearing in the Landau levels is related to a topological part of the Berry phase – which is basically a winding number of the direction of the pseudo-spin 1/2 associated to the coupled bands – acquired by an electron during a cyclotron orbit and not to the complete Berry phase, as commonly stated. As a consequence, the Landau levels of a coupled band insulator are shifted as compared to a usual band insulator. We also study in detail the Berry curvature in the whole Brillouin zone on a specific example (boron nitride) and show that its computation requires care in defining the “k-dependent Hamiltonian” H(k), where k is the Bloch wavevector.  相似文献
