We study the natural vibrations and the dynamic stability of nearly cylindrical orthotropic shells of revolution subjected to meridional forces uniformly distributed over the shell ends. We consider shells of medium length for which the shape of the midsurface generatrix is described by a parabolic function. Using the theory of shallow shells, we obtain the resolving equation for the vibrations of the corresponding prestressed shell. In the isotropic case, this equation differs from the well-known equation [1] by an additional term, which can be of the same order as the other terms taken into account. We consider shells of both positive and negative Gaussian curvature. We assumed that the shell ends are freely supported. The formulas and universal curves describing the dependence of the minimum frequency, the wave generation shape, and the dynamic instability domain boundaries on the orthotropy parameters, the preliminary stress, the Gaussian curvature, and the amplitude of the shell deviation from the cylinder are given in dimensionless form. We find that in the case of prestresses the orthotropy parameters and the shell deviation from the cylinder (of the order of thickness) can significantly change the least frequencies, the wave generation shape, and the dynamic instability domain boundaries of the corresponding prestressed orthotropic cylindrical shell. In this case, we note that for convex shells under preliminary compression the influence of the elastic parameter in the axial direction is stronger than the influence of the elastic parameter in the circular direction, while the situation is opposite in the case of concave shells. In the case of preliminary extension, the leading role of any orthotropy parameter can vary depending on the value of the preliminary stress and the Gaussian curvature.  相似文献

Results obtained on the basis of linearized functionals in the theory of nonlinearly elastic composite shells are analyzed and generalized. The Kirchhoff-Love and Timoshenko hypotheses are used. Possible membrane or shear locking is taken into account. New approaches are proposed to improve the convergence of numerical solution for new classes of nonlinear problems for thin and nonthin shells with a curvilinear (circular, elliptical) hole. The stress-strain state of shells is analyzed using different versions of shell theory. The influence of the nonlinear properties and orthotropy of composite materials on the stress distribution in structural members is studied.Translated from Prikladnaya Mekhanika, Vol. 40, No. 11, pp. 45–84, November 2004.This revised version was published online in April 2005 with a corrected cover date.  相似文献

Governing non-linear integro-differential equations for cylindrically orthotropic shallow spherical shells resting on linear Winkler-Pasternak elastic foundations, undergoing moderately large deformations are presented. Three problems, namely, non-linear static deflection response, non-linear dynamic deflection response and dynamic snap-through buckling of orthotropic shells have been investigated. The influences of material orthotropy, foundation parameters and shell-material damping on the deflection response are determined for the clamped and the simply- supported immovable edge conditions accurately. Orthotropy, foundation interaction and material damping play significant roles in improving the load carrying capacity of the shell structures.  相似文献

This paper is the result of an investigation on the vibration of non-homogeneous orthotropic cylindrical shells, based on the shear deformation theory. Assume that the Young’s moduli, shear moduli and density of the orthotropic material are continuous functions of the coordinate in the thickness direction. The basic equations of non-homogeneous orthotropic cylindrical shells with the shear deformation and rotary inertia are derived in the framework of Donnell-type shell theory. The ends of a non-homogeneous orthotropic cylindrical shell are considered as simply supported. The basic equations are reduced to the sixth-order algebraic equation for the frequency using the Galerkin method. Solving this algebraic equation, the lowest values of non-dimensional frequency parameters for non-homogeneous orthotropic cylindrical shells with and without shear deformation and rotary inertia are obtained. Calculations, effects of shear stresses and rotary inertia, orthotropy, non-homogeneity and shell geometry parameters on the lowest values of non-dimensional frequency parameter are described. The results are verified by comparing the obtained values with those in the existing literature.  相似文献

Results from a numerical study of the response of thin-walled compression-loaded quasi-isotropic laminated composite cylindrical shells with unreinforced and reinforced square cutouts are presented. The effects of cutout reinforcement orthotropy, size, and thickness on the non-linear response of the shells are described. A high-fidelity non-linear analysis procedure has been used to predict the non-linear response of the shells. The analysis procedure includes a non-linear static analysis that predicts stable response characteristics of the shells and a non-linear transient analysis that predicts unstable dynamic buckling response characteristics. The results illustrate the complex non-linear response of a compression-loaded shell with an unreinforced cutout. In particular, a local buckling response occurs in the shell near the cutout and is caused by a complex non-linear coupling between local shell-wall deformations and in-plane destabilizing compression stresses near the cutout. In general, reinforcement around a cutout in a compression-loaded shell can retard or eliminate the local buckling response near the cutout and increase the buckling load of the shell. However, results are presented that show how certain reinforcement configurations can cause an unexpected increase in the magnitude of local deformations and stresses in the shell and cause a reduction in the buckling load. Specific cases are presented that suggest that the orthotropy, thickness, and size of a cutout reinforcement in a shell can be tailored to achieve improved buckling response characteristics.  相似文献

We develop in this paper a comprehensive micromechanical model for the analysis of thin smart composite grid-reinforced shells with an embedded periodic grid of generally orthotropic cylindrical reinforcements that may also exhibit piezoelectric properties. The original boundary value problem which characterizes the thermopiezoelastic behavior of the smart shell is decoupled via the asymptotic homogenization technique into three simpler problems the solution of which permits the determination of the effective elastic, piezoelectric and thermal expansion coefficients. The general orthotropy of the constituent materials is very important from the practical viewpoint and it renders the resulting analysis a lot more complicated. In Part II of this work the model is applied to the analysis of several practically important examples including cylindrical reinforced smart composite shells and multi-layer smart shells.  相似文献

Discarding any assumption regarding displacement or stress models, the state equation for orthotropy is established in a cylindrical system. The exact solution is presented for the statics of thick closed laminated cantilever cylindrical shells. Every equation of elasticity can be satisfied and all the elastic constants are taken into account. Arbitrary precision of a desired order can be obtained. A two-dimensional nonlinear magnetoelastic model of a current-carrying orthotropic shell of revolution is constructed taking into account finite orthotropic conductivity, permeability, and permittivity. It is assumed that the principal axes of orthotropy are aligned with the coordinate axes and that the orthotropic body is magnetically and electrically linear. The coupled nonlinear differential equations derived describe the stress-strain state of flexible current-carrying orthotropic shells of revolution that have an arbitrarily shaped meridian and orthotropic conductivity and are in nonstationary mechanical and electromagnetic fields. A method to solve this class of problems is proposed Translated from Prikladnaya Mekhanika, Vol. 44, No. 8, pp. 64–76, August 2008.  相似文献

In this study, the torsional vibration and stability problems of functionally graded (FG) orthotropic cylindrical shells in the elastic medium, using the Galerkin method was investigated. Pasternak model is used to describe the reaction of the elastic medium on the cylindrical shell. Mixed boundary conditions are considered. The material properties and density of the orthotropic cylindrical shell are assumed to vary exponentially in the thickness direction. The basic equations of the FG orthotropic cylindrical shell under the torsional load resting on the Pasternak-type elastic foundation are derived. The expressions for the critical torsional load and dimensionless torsional frequency parameter of the FG orthotropic cylindrical shell resting on elastic foundations are obtained. The effects of variations of shell parameters, the exponential factor characterizing the degree of material gradient, orthotropy, foundation stiffness and shear subgrade modulus of the foundation on the critical torsional load and dimensionless torsional frequency parameter are examined.  相似文献

Cylindrical shells consisting of cylindrical panels of smaller radius and subjected to uniform external pressure are analyzed for stability. The geometrical parameters of the shells are approximated by Fourier series on a discrete set of points. The Timoshenko theory of shells is used. The solution is represented in the form of trigonometric series. It is shown that short-and medium-length shells with cylindrical panels are advantageous over circular shells. By selecting appropriate parameters of the panels, keeping the mass of the shell constant, it is possible to achieve a significant gain in critical loads. The shells under consideration are less effective than isotropic shells. Shells with sinusoidal corrugation under external pressure are of no practical interest __________ Translated from Prikladnaya Mekhanika, Vol. 43, No. 12, pp. 91–102, December 2007.  相似文献

An interface crack and a subinterface crack in an orthotropic bimaterial structure consisting of a thin film and a half plane substrate are analyzed. The orthotropic bimaterial structure is subjected to compressive load and bending moment per unit thickness. Complete expressions of stress intensity factors for the two cracks are obtained based on the path independence of the J integral, apart from one dimensionless parameter undetermined each. The dependence of the dimensionless parameters on material constants is examined. A reduction of the number of necessary material parameters for the parameters is made based upon the modified Stroh formalism. The explicit dependence of the dimensionless parameters on one orthotropic parameter for the film is determined by using the orthotropy rescaling technique. Variations of the dimensionless parameters with the other material parameters are also obtained through numerical computations.  相似文献

The physical occurrence that crack surfaces are in contact at the compressive edges when a flat or a shell is subjected to a bending load has been recognized. This article presents a theoretical analysis of crack–face contact effect on the stress intensity factor of various shell structures such as spherical shell, cylindrical shell containing an axial crack, cylindrical shell containing a circumferential crack and shell with two non-zero curvatures, under a bending load. The formulation of the problem is based on the shear deformation theory, incorporating crack–face contact by introducing distributed force at the compressive edge. Material orthotropy is concerned in this analysis. Three-dimensional finite element analysis (FEA) is conduced to compare with the theoretical solution. It is found that due to curvature effect crack–face contact behavior in shells differs from that in flat plates, in that partial contact of crack surfaces may occur in shells, depending on the shell curvature and the nature of the bending load. Crack–face contact has significant influence on the stress intensity factor and it increases the membrane component but decreases the bending component.  相似文献

A modified δc-model is used to study the limiting state of an orthotropic plate weakened by a periodic row of collinear cracks and satisfying a general failure criterion. The failure mechanism of the plate is analyzed.Astudy is made of the effects of the degree of orthotropy, the biaxiality of external loading, and the geometrical parameters on the fracture process zones at the crack tips and the limiting state of the plate. For the first time, a new cross-section profile and efficient method are developed for the vibration analysis of isotropic and orthotropic cylindrical shells having circumferentially varying profile of a cardioid cross-section expressed as an arbitrary function, under thermal gradient effect. The governing equations of orthotropic cylindrical shells with varying thermal gradient around its circumference are derived as a boundary-value problem and solved numerically as an initial-value problem, based on the framework of Flügge's shell theory, transfer matrix approach and Romberg integration method. As a semi-analytical procedure, the trigonometric functions are used with Fourier's approach to approximate the solution in the longitudinal direction and also to reduce the two-dimensional problem to one-dimensional one. The thermal gradient is assumed to arise due to the variation of Young's moduli and shear modulus, along the circumferential direction of the shell. The results are obtained to indicate the effects of cardioid cross-section on the natural frequencies and corresponding mode shapes in the thermal environment as well as the sensitivity of the vibration behavior to the thermal gradient ratio and the orthotropy of the shell is also investigated for different types of vibration modes. In general, close agreement between the obtained results and those of other researchers has been found.  相似文献

Problems related with the modeling and dynamic response to blast loadings of doubly-curved sandwich panels with laminated face sheets are developed. In this respect, the implications of the panel curvature, of anisotropy and stacking sequence of face sheets, of transverse orthotropy of the core, and of structural damping on dynamic response to time-dependent loads are highlighted. As concerns the blast pulses considered in this analysis, these are related to in-air explosions or of traveling shock-waves. Other parameters, mainly geometrical, are also considered in the numerical simulations, and their implications on the dynamic response are put into evidence. Due to the absence of similar results in the specialized literature, this paper is likely to fill a gap in the state of the art of this problem, and provide pertinent results that are instrumental in the design of advanced sandwich shells operating in a dynamic environment. Moreover, the closed-form solutions developed in the paper, can serve as excellent references for comparison with numerical based solutions.  相似文献

The elastostatic problem for a relatively thin-walled spherical cap containing a through crack is considered. The problem is formulated for a specially orthotropic material within the confines of a linearized, shallow shell theory. The theory used is equivalent to Reissner's theory of flat plates and hence permits the consideration of all five physical conditions on the shell boundaries separately. The solution of the problem is reduced to that of a pair of singular integral equations and the asymptotic stress state around the crack tips is investigated. The numerical solution of the problem is given for an isotropic shell and for two specially orthotropic shells. The results indicate that the material orthotropy as well as the shell curvature and thickness may have a considerable effect on the stress intensity factors at the crack tips.  相似文献
