Fluorine-containing amphiphilic block copolymers, poly(sodium methacrylate)-block-poly(nonafluorohexyl methacrylate) (NaMAm-b-NFHMAn) (m:n = 61:12, 72:33, 64:57), and the corresponding non-fluorine-containing amphiphilic block copolymer, poly(sodium methacrylate)-block-poly(hexyl methacrylate) (NaMAm-b-HMAn) (m:n = 64:10, 69:37, 67:50), were synthesized. Both polyNaMA-b-polyNFHMA and polyNaMA-b-polyHMA formed micelles above critical micelle concentrations, (cmc's), around 3 x 10(-5) to 1 x 10(-4) mol/L, while neither polymer decreased surface tension of aqueous solutions. The size and shape of the micelles were examined by dynamic light scattering, small-angle neutron scattering, and small-angle X-ray scattering. PolyNaMA-b-polyHMA appeared to form only spherical micelles, while polyNaMA-b-polyNFHMA with a long NFHMA segment formed both spherical and rodlike micelles. The micelles of fluorine-containing block copolymers were obviously larger than those of non-fluorine-containing block copolymers with the same chain length and the same hydrophilic/hydrophobic chain ratio. The fluorine-containing block copolymer selectively solubilized fluorinated dye into the water phase when a mixture of decafluorobiphenyl and 2,6-dimethylnaphthalene was added to the micelle solution.  相似文献

Water‐soluble crosslinked hollow nanoparticles were prepared using pH‐responsive anionic polymer micelles as templates. The template micelles were formed from pH‐responsive diblock copolymers (PAMPS‐PAaH) composed of the poly(sodium 2‐(acrylamido)‐2‐methylpropanesulfonate) and poly(6‐(acrylamido)hexanoic acid) blocks in an aqueous acidic solution. The PAMPS and PAaH blocks form a hydrophilic anionic shell and hydrophobic core of the core‐shell polymer micelle, respectively. A cationic diblock copolymer (PEG‐P(APTAC/CEA)) with the poly(ethylene glycol) block and random copolymer block composed of poly((3‐acrylamidopropyl)trimethylammonium chloride) containing a small amount of the 2‐(cinnamoyl)ethylacrylate photo‐crosslinkable unit can be adsorbed to the anionic shell of the template micelle due to electrostatic interaction, which form a core‐shell‐corona three‐layered micelle. The shell of the core‐shell‐corona micelle is formed from a polyion complex with anionic PAMPS and cationic P(APTAC/CEA) chains. The P(APTAC/CEA) chains in the shell of the core‐shell‐corona micelle can be photo‐crosslinked with UV irradiation. The template micelle can be dissociated using NaOH, because the PAaH blocks are ionized. Furthermore, electrostatic interactions between PAMPS and PAPTAC in the shell are screened by adding excess NaCl in water. The template micelles can be completely removed by dialysis against water containing NaOH and NaCl to prepare the crosslinked hollow nanoparticles. Transmission electron microscopy observations confirmed the hollow structure. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2012  相似文献

A triple hydrophilic block copolymer comprised of poly(ethylene oxide), poly(sodium 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropanesulfonate), and poly(methacrylic acid) (PEO–PAMPS–PMAA) does not form a micelle by itself when it is dissolved in water. However, in the previous paper, we fabricated the nanoaggregates of PEO–PAMPS–PMAA and cationic surfactant, such as cetyltrimethylammonium chloride (CTAC), by insolubilizing the anionic PAMPS and/or PMAA blocks of the polymer with CTAC only at high pH. In this paper, we fabricated the nanoaggregates of dodecyltrimethylammonium chloride (DTAC) and PEO–PAMPS–PMAA in a wide range of pH to examine the effect of ionization of the PMAA blocks of the polymer on the aggregates formation of PEO–PAMPS–PMAA. The properties of the nanoaggregates are affected by the ionization of PMAA block of the polymer. DTAC (C12 alkyl chain) was employed instead of CTAC (C16 alkyl chain) to reveal the effect of alkyl chain length of surfactant on the aggregate formation of PEO–PAMPS–PMAA. The properties of PEO–PAMPS–PMAA nanoaggregates also depend on the structure of surfactant. The binding of DTAC to PEO–PAMPS–PMAA was monitored by electrophoresis measurements, while the formation of DTAC/PEO–PAMPS–PMAA nanoaggregates was confirmed by scanning electron microscopy, dynamic light scattering measurements and fluorescence spectroscopy.  相似文献

Comicellization of a star block copolymer poly(ε-caprolactone)-block-poly(diethylamino)ethyl methacrylate (S(PCL-b-PDEAEMA)) and a linear block copolymer methoxy poly(ethylene glycol)-block-poly(ε-caprolactone) (mPEG-b-PCL) was developed to enhance the stability and lower the cytotoxicity of the micelles. The two copolymers self-assembled into the mixed micelles with a common PCL core surrounded by a mixed PDEAEMA/mPEG shell in aqueous solution. This core-shell structure was transformed to the core-shell-corona structure at high pH due to the collapse of the PDEAEMA segment. The properties of the polymeric micelles were greatly dependent on the weight ratio of the two copolymers and the external pH. As increasing the mPEG-b-PCL content, the size and the zeta potential of the mixed micelles were lowered while the pH-dependent stability and the biocompatibility were improved. Moreover, an increase in pH accelerated the release of indomethacin (IND) from the mixed micelles in vitro. These results augured that the mixed micelles could be applied as a stable pH-sensitive release system.  相似文献

The micellization properties of well‐defined block copolymers of styrene and decyl methacrylate (SDMA) were studied in two different solvents, methyl acetate (MAc) selective for the polystyrene (PS) block and dodecane, selective for the poly(decyl methacrylate) (PDMA) block. The results were compared with those obtained, in the same solvents, from block copolymers of styrene and stearyl methacrylate (SSMA). In MAc, SDMA copolymers with a decyl methacrylate (DMA) content of 15% or less formed unimolecular micelles, whereas those with a content of 18.5% or higher formed multimolecular micelles. The degrees of association were lower than the corresponding SSMA samples. In dodecane, SDMA form large, monodisperse, spherical, and thermally stable micelles with degrees of association higher than the corresponding SSMA samples. The different behaviors can be attributed to the steric hindrance effect and the ability of the long alkyl groups of the polymethacrylate, MA blocks to crystallize. When the MA blocks are in the soluble corona of the micelles, the steric hindrance effect prevails, thus leading to higher degrees of association for the less bulky alkyl group. In the case where the MA block is in the insoluble core of the micelles, the higher the tendency for crystallization the higher the degree of association. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The adsorption of a zwitterionic diblock copolymer, poly(2-(diethylamino)ethyl methacrylate)-block-poly(methacrylic acid) (PDEA59-PMAA50), at the silica/aqueous solution interface has been characterised as a function of pH. In acidic solution, this copolymer forms core-shell micelles with the neutral PMAA chains being located in the hydrophobic cores and the protonated PDEA chains forming the cationic micelle coronas. In alkaline solution, the copolymer forms the analogous inverted micelles with anionic PMAA coronas and hydrophobic PDEA cores. The morphology of the adsorbed layer was observed in situ using soft-contact atomic force microscopy (AFM): this technique suggests the formation of a thin adsorbed layer at pH 4 due to the adsorption of individual copolymer chains (unimers) rather than micelle aggregates. This is supported by the remarkably low dissipation values and the relatively low degrees of hydration for the adsorbed layers, as estimated using a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation monitoring (QCM-D) and optical reflectometry (OR). In alkaline solution, analysis of the adsorption data suggests a conformation for the adsorbed copolymers where one block projects normal to the solid/liquid interface; this layer consists of a hydrophobic PDEA anchor block adsorbed on the silica surface and an anionic PMAA buoy block extending into the solution phase. Tapping mode AFM studies were also carried out on the silica surfaces after removal from the copolymer solutions and subsequent drying. Interestingly, in these cases micelle-like surface aggregates were observed from both acidic and alkaline solutions. The lateral dimension of the aggregates seen is consistent with the corresponding hydrodynamic diameter of the copolymer micelles in bulk solution. The combination of the in situ and ex situ AFM data provides evidence that, for this copolymer, micelle aggregates are only seen in the ex situ dry state as a result of the substrate withdrawal and drying process. It remains unclear whether these aggregates are caused by micelle deposition at the surface during the substrate withdrawal from the solution or as a result of unimer rearrangements at the drying front as the liquid recedes from the surface.  相似文献

Aggregation behavior including dilute solution property and surface‐activity of the amphiphilic random copolymer composed of 2‐(acrylamido)‐2‐methylpropanesulfonic acid and tris(trimethylsiloxy)silylpropylmethacrylate (AMPS/TRIS copolymer) in aqueous solution were studied by static light scattering (SLS), dynamic light scattering (DLS), surface tension measurement, and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The surface tension measurement made it clear that AMPS/TRIS copolymer exhibited weaker surface‐activity than a typical low‐molecular weight surfactant sodium dodecyl sulfate in water, that is, there were no plateau of surface tension γ versus concentration and no critical micelle concentration (CMC) in the whole concentration studied. SLS and DLS analyses, and TEM revealed that AMPS/TRIS copolymer self‐associated into imperfect core‐shell micelles having hydrophobic TRIS core surrounded by hydrophilic AMPS shell in water. AMPS shell was considered as a hard shell due to the stiffness of AMPS chain in water. TRIS chain could not densely aggregate in water due to the large steric hindrance between bulky trimethylsiloxy groups despite its hydrophobic nature, thereby providing TRIS core with less‐dense structure. The balance between the spreading force of stiff AMPS chain and the cohesion force of bulky TRIS chain provides the driving force for forming the unique micelle having less‐dense TRIS core and hard AMPS shell. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We describe the synthesis and the solution properties of Janus micelles containing a polybutadiene (PB) core and a compartmentalized corona consisting of a poly(methacrylic acid) (PMAA) and a polystyrene (PS) hemisphere. The Janus micelles were obtained via cross-linking the middle block of a microphase-separated PS-block-PB-block-PMMA triblock copolymer in the bulk state, followed by alkaline hydrolysis of the poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) ester groups. Results of fluorescence correlation spectroscopy, field flow fractionation, light scattering, cryogenic transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and scanning force microscopy indicate that above a critical aggregation concentration of about 0.03 g/L spherical supermicelles are formed from about 30 PS-PMAA micelles in aqueous solution in the presence of NaCl. These supermicelles have radii of 40-60 nm, significantly increasing on ionization (pH >6). In addition, very large spherical objects are observed with radii of 100-250 nm.  相似文献

Block copolymers of poly(tert-butyl methyacrylate) (PtBMA) and polystyrene (PSt) were grafted onto multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) by the reaction of azide groups at the copolymer chain end with the surface of MWNTs. After hydrolysis, PtBMA block was transformed to polymethyacrylic acid (PMAA) block, and amphiphilic diblock copolymer-modified MWNTs were finally obtained. The modified MWNTs were characterized by XPS, TGA, FTIR, and Raman, and the results showed that the amphiphilic diblock copolymers were grafted onto MWNTs by the covalent bond. The TEM and SEM observation showed that PMAA-b-PSt copolymer modified MWNTs (S2) formed self-assembly tube bundles with the size up to 20 μm in both ethanol and chloroform. However, PtBMA-b-PSt copolymer modified MWNTs (S1) only formed small-size aggregates or dispersed as single-modified MWNTs. The dispersion stability tests showed that S1 had good dispersion stability in several solvents (water, ethanol, acetone, and chloroform) even after 20 days. Due to the big-size tube bundles formed by self-assemble S2, the dispersion stability of S2 in above all solvents decreased, but it was still much better than that of pristine MWNTs.  相似文献

The in situ layer-by-layer (LbL) self-assembly of low Tg diblock copolymer micelles onto a flat silica substrate is reported. The copolymers used here were a cationic poly(2-(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate)-block-poly(2-(diethylamino)ethyl methacrylate) (50qPDMA-PDEA; 50q refers to a mean degree of quaternization of 50 mol % for the PDMA block) and zwitterionic poly(methacrylic acid)-block-poly(2-(diethylamino)ethyl methacrylate) (PMAA-PDEA), which has anionic character at pH 9. Alternate deposition of micelles formed by these two copolymers onto a silica substrate at pH 9 was examined. The in situ LbL buildup of the copolymer micelle films was monitored using zeta potential measurements, optical reflectometry, and a quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation monitoring (QCM-D). For a six layer deposition, complete charge reversal was observed after the addition of each layer. The OR data indicated clearly an increase in adsorbed mass with each additional micelle layer and suggest that some interdiffusion of copolymer chains between layers and/or an increase in the film roughness, and hence in the effective surface area of the micellar multilayers, must take place as the film is built up. QCM-D data indicated that the self-assembled micellar multilayers on a flat silica substrate undergo structural changes over a prolonged period. This is attributed to longer-term interdiffusion of the copolymer chains between the outer two layers after the initial adsorption of each layer is complete. The QCM-D data further suggest that the outer adsorbed layers adopt a progressively more extended conformation, particularly for the higher numbered layers. The morphology of each successive layer was characterized using in situ soft-contact atomic force microscopy, and micelle-like surface aggregates are clearly observed within each layer of the complex film, suggesting the persistence of aggregate structures throughout the multilayer structure.  相似文献

Amphiphilic triblock copolymers of poly(methyl methacrylate)-b-poly(ethylene oxide)-b-poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA-b-PEO-b-PMMA) with well-defined structure were synthesized via atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of methyl methacrylate (MMA) initiated by the PEO macroinitiator. The macroinitiator and triblock copolymer with different PMMA and/or PEO block lengths were characterized with 1H and 13C NMR and gel permeation chromatography (GPC). The micelle formed by these triblock copolymers in aqueous solutions was detected by fluorescence excitation and emission spectra of pyrene probe. The critical micelle concentration (CMC) ranged from 0.0019 to 0.016 mg/mL and increased with increasing PMMA block length, while the PEO block length had less effect on the CMC. The partition constant Kv for pyrene in the micelle and in aqueous solution was about 105. The triblock copolymer appeared to form the micelles with hydrophobic PMMA core and hydrophilic PEO loop chain corona. The hydrodynamic radius Rh,app of the micelle measured with dynamic light scattering (DLS) ranged from 17.3 to 24.0 nm and increased with increasing PEO block length to form thicker corona. The spherical shape of the micelle of the triblock copolymers was observed with an atomic force microscope (AFM). Increasing hydrophobic PMMA block length effectively promoted the micelle formation in aqueous solutions, but the micelles were stable even only with short PMMA blocks.  相似文献

A triple hydrophilic block copolymer composed of poly(ethylene oxide), poly(sodium 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropanesulfonate), and poly(methacrylic acid) (PEO-PAMPS-PMAA) does not form a micelle by itself when it is dissolved in water. However, if the anionic PAMPS and/or PMAA blocks are electrically neutralized with a cationic surfactant, such as cetyltrimethylammonium chloride (CTAC), micelle-like nanoaggregates are obtained, where the core is formed by the insolubilized PAMPS and/or PMAA blocks. Formation of the nanoaggregates was confirmed by dynamic light scattering (DLS) measurements and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), while the binding of CTAC to PEO-PAMPS-PMAA was monitored by electrophoresis measurements. The aggregates were characterized by fluorescence spectroscopy as well as DLS and SEM. It was found that the nanoaggregates have a spherical structure, and the hydrodynamic diameter ranges from 125 to 193 nm depending on the concentrations of the PEO-PAMPS-PMAA and CTAC. The critical aggregate concentration is on the order of 10-4 g L-1 when the ionic blocks of PEO-PAMPS-PMAA are fully neutralized with CTAC.  相似文献

Hybrid polyion complex (HPIC) micelles are nanoaggregates obtained by complexation of multivalent metal ions by double hydrophilic block copolymers (DHBC). Solutions of DHBC such as the poly(acrylic acid)-block-poly(acrylamide) (PAA-b-PAM) or poly(acrylic acid)-block-poly(2-hydroxyethylacrylate) (PAA-b-PHEA), constituted of an ionizable complexing block and a neutral stabilizing block, were mixed with solutions of metal ions, which are either monoatomic ions or metal polycations, such as Al(3+), La(3+), or Al(13)(7+). The physicochemical properties of the HPIC micelles were investigated by small angle neutron scattering (SANS) and dynamic light scattering (DLS) as a function of the polymer block lengths and the nature of the cation. Mixtures of metal cations and asymmetric block copolymers with a complexing block smaller than the stabilizing block lead to the formation of stable colloidal HPIC micelles. The hydrodynamic radius of the HPIC micelles varies with the polymer molecular weight as M(0.6). In addition, the variation of R(h) of the HPIC micelle is stronger when the complexing block length is increased than when the neutral block length is increased. R(h) is highly sensitive to the polymer asymmetry degree (block weight ratio), and this is even more true when the polymer asymmetry degree goes down to values close to 3. SANS experiments reveal that HPIC micelles exhibit a well-defined core-corona nanostructure; the core is formed by the insoluble dense poly(acrylate)/metal cation complex, and the diffuse corona is constituted of swollen neutral polymer chains. The scattering curves were modeled by an analytical function of the form factor; the fitting parameters of the Pedersen's model provide information on the core size, the corona thickness, and the aggregation number of the micelles. For a given metal ion, the micelle core radius increases as the PAA block length. The radius of gyration of the micelle is very close to the value of the core radius, while it varies very weakly with the neutral block length. Nevertheless, the radius of gyration of the micelle is highly dependent on the asymmetry degree of the polymer: if the neutral block length increases in a large extent, the micelle radius of gyration decreases due to a decrease of the micelle aggregation number. The variation of the R(g)/R(h) ratio as a function of the polymer block lengths confirms the nanostructure associating a dense spherical core and a diffuse corona. Finally, the high stability of HPIC micelles with increasing concentration is the result of the nature of the coordination complex bonds in the micelle core.  相似文献

We describe the formation of polyampholytic block copolymer brushes and their assembly in solution. Specifically, we employ "surface-initiated" activators regenerated by electron transfer atom transfer radical polymerization (ARGET-ATRP) sequentially to form diblock copolymer grafts comprising blocks of poly[2-(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate] (PDMAEMA) and poly(sodium methacrylate) (PNaMA) on flat impenetrable silica surfaces, i.e., SiO(x)/PNaMA-b-PDMAEMA and SiO(x)/PDMAEMA-b-PNaMA. Protonation of the PNaMA block results in formation of poly(methacrylic acid) (PMAA). We demonstrate that ARGET-ATRP of NaMA provides a convenient route to preparation of PMAA, which is an alternative method to the more traditional approach based on preparing PMAA by polymerizing tert-butyl methacrylate (tBMA) followed by cleavage of the tert-butyl group. We also discuss conformational changes of the individual polyelectrolyte blocks in solution as a function of solution pH by monitoring adsorption behavior of functionalized polystyrene spheres.  相似文献

A novel POSS‐containing methacrylate monomer (HEMAPOSS) was fabricated by extending the side chain between polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) unit and methacrylate group, which can efficiently decrease the steric hindrance in free‐radical polymerization of POSS‐methacrylate monomer. POSS‐containing homopolymers (PHEMAPOSS) with a higher degree of polymerization (DP) can be prepared using HEMAPOSS monomer via reversible addition–fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization. PHEMAPOSS was further used as the macro‐RAFT agent to construct a series of amphiphilic POSS‐containing poly(N, N‐dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate) diblock copolymers, PHEMAPOSS‐b‐PDMAEMA. PHEMAPOSS‐b‐PDMAEMA block copolymers can self‐assemble into a plethora of morphologies ranging from irregular assembled aggregates to core‐shell spheres and further from complex spheres (pearl‐necklace‐liked structure) to large compound vesicles. The thermo‐ and pH‐responsive behaviors of the micelles were also investigated by dynamic laser scattering, UV spectroscopy, SEM, and TEM. The results reveal the reversible transition of the assembled morphologies from spherical micelles to complex micelles was realized through acid‐base control. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. The thermosensitive block copolymer poly(2-cinnamoylethyl methacrylate)-block-poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PCEMA-b-PNIPAAm) can form crew-cut aggregates with multiple morphologies under various micellization conditions. Spherical, rod-like, vesicular, lamellar aggregates, and large compound micelles were obtained from the block copolymers. The effects of different conditions, such as the copolymer composition, the nature of the common solvent, the initial copolymer concentrations, and the water content on the morphologies of the aggregates were studied in detail. The thermosensitive property of the aggregates was investigated through measuring the change of the dimension of the aggregates with changing the external temperature.  相似文献

We report on a series of polyion complexes from mixtures of poly(ethylene oxide)-block-poly(N,N-diethylaminoethylmethacrylate) (PEO-PDEAMA) and poly(ethylene oxide)-block-poly(aspartic acid) (PEO-PAsp). As expected, the micelle size, polydispersity and stability are dependant on the relative and absolute lengths of the polyelectrolyte chains. However, we also demonstrate that whilst the length of the charged polyelectrolyte blocks is important, the length of the PEO chains is an equally relevant variable in determining both the size and stability of the final micelles as well as the degree of charge neutralisation at which micellisation occurs. We also show that the kinetics of formation can result in very different stability of the final micelles.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to assess the effect of hydrophilic/hydrophobic block chain lengths on the internalization of poly(ethylene oxide)-block-poly(varepsilon-caprolactone) (PEO-b-PCL) micelles by cancer cells. PEO-b-PCL block copolymers with varied PEO and PCL chain lengths were synthesized, assembled to polymeric micelles and loaded with a hydrophobic fluorescent probe (DiI) through a co-solvent evaporation method of physical encapsulation. The slow release of the fluorescent probe from the micellar structure was evidenced following DiI transfer to lipid vesicles. The extent of micellar uptake by cancer cells was investigated through their incubation with MCF-7 cells followed by measurement of the fluorescent emission intensity of DiI (lambda=550 nm) in separated lysed cells. Cellular internalization of polymeric micelles was confirmed by laser scanning microscopy. The mechanism of micellar uptake was investigated by pretreatment of MCF-7 cells with chlorpromazine and cytochalasin B. Encapsulation of DiI in PEO-b-PCL micelles lowered the extent and rate of hydrophobic probe internalization by cancer cells. For polymeric micelles with 5000 gmol(-1) of PCL and varied PEO molecular weights of 2000, 5000 and 13,000 gmol(-1), maximum uptake was observed at a PEO molecular weight of 5000 gmol(-1). For polymeric micelles with 5000 gmol(-1) of PEO and varied PCL molecular weights of 5000, 13,000 and 24,000 gmol(-1), maximum uptake was observed at 13,000 gmol(-1) of PCL. Chlorpromazine reduced the cellular uptake of PEO-b-PCL micelles independent from the block copolymer structure, pointing to the involvement of clathrin mediated endocytosis mechanisms in the uptake of polymeric micelles by cancer cells. Inhibition of cellular uptake of PEO-b-PCL micelles by cytochalasin B, on the other hand, was found to be dependent on the chemical structure of the core/shell forming blocks.  相似文献
