Algebras of quotients of path algebras

Leavitt path algebras are shown to be algebras of right quotients of their corresponding path algebras. Using this fact we obtain maximal algebras of right quotients from those (Leavitt) path algebras whose associated graph satisfies that every vertex connects to a line point (equivalently, the Leavitt path algebra has essential socle). We also introduce and characterize the algebraic counterpart of Toeplitz algebras.     

On the homology of quotients of path algebras

We extend the results and techniques of [Al] to find a method of constructing projective resolutions for certain simple modules over homomorphic images of path algebras. We provide a number of applications in the case when the image algebra is finite dimensional.     

Purely infinite simple Leavitt path algebras

We give necessary and sufficient conditions on a row-finite graph E so that the Leavitt path algebra L(E) is purely infinite simple. This result provides the algebraic analog to the corresponding result for the Cuntz-Krieger C^∗-algebra C^∗(E) given in [T. Bates, D. Pask, I. Raeburn, W. Szymański, The C^∗-algebras of row-finite graphs, New York J. Math. 6 (2000) 307-324].     

Generalized Clifford algebras and certain infinite dimensional Lie algebras

The embedding of certain infinite dimensional Lie algebras in generalized Clifford algobras C(N, p) is given. The correspondence between C(N,2) andgl(N, C) asN⇌∞ is pointed out.     

Exponentiation of infinite dimensional Z-graded lie algebras

In this article we give a new technique for exponentiating infinite dimensional graded representations of graded Lie algebras that allows for the exponentiation of some non-locally nilpotent elements. Our technique is to naturally extend the representation of the Lie algebra g on the space V naturally to a representation on a subspace £ of the dual space V ^*. After introducing the technique, we prove that it enables the exponentiation of all elements of free Lie Algebras and afhne Kac-Moody Lie algebras.     

Automorphisms of infinite dimensional Lie algebras of Cartan type

In this paper it is proved that any automorphism of an infinite dimensional Lie algebra of Cartan type over an algebraically closed field of characteristicp>2 can be induced from an automorphism of the associated divided power algebra.     

On some infinite dimensional linear groups

Let F be a field, A be a vector space over F, and GL(F,A) the group of all automorphisms of the vector space A. A subspace B of A is called nearly G-invariant, if dim _F (BFG/B) is finite. A subspace B is called almost G-invariant, if dim _F (B/Core _G (B)) is finite. In the present article we begin the study of subgroups G of GL(F,A) such that every subspace of A is either nearly G-invariant or almost G-invariant. More precisely, we consider the case when G is a periodic p′-group where p = charF.      

Descent constructions for central extensions of infinite dimensional Lie algebras

We use Galois descent to construct central extensions of twisted forms of split simple Lie algebras over rings. These types of algebras arise naturally in the construction of Extended Affine Lie Algebras. The construction also gives information about the structure of the group of automorphisms of such algebras. A. Pianzola is supported by the NSERC Discovery Grant Program. Rings, modules, and algebras in infinite loop space theory

We give a new construction of the algebraic K-theory of small permutative categories that preserves multiplicative structure, and therefore allows us to give a unified treatment of rings, modules, and algebras in both the input and output. This requires us to define multiplicative structure on the category of small permutative categories. The framework we use is the concept of multicategory (elsewhere also called colored operad), a generalization of symmetric monoidal category that precisely captures the multiplicative structure we have present at all stages of the construction. Our method ends up in the Hovey-Shipley-Smith category of symmetric spectra, with an intermediate stop at a category of functors out of a particular wreath product.     

The matrix type of purely infinite simple Leavitt path algebras

Let R denote the purely infinite simple unital Leavitt path algebra L(E). We completely determine the pairs of positive integers (c, d) for which there is an isomorphism of matrix rings M _c (R) ≌ M _d (R), in terms of the order of [1 _R ] in the Grothendieck group K ₀(R).     

Martindale quotients of Jordan algebras

In this paper we introduce Martindale quotients of Jordan algebras over arbitrary rings of scalars with respect to denominator filters of ideals. For any denominatored algebra, we show the existence of maximal Martindale quotients naturally containing all Martindale quotients of the algebra with respect to the given denominator filter.     

Equivariant cohomology of incidence Hilbert schemes and infinite dimensional Lie algebras

Let S be the affine plane ${\mathbb C^2}$ together with an appropriate ${\mathbb T = \mathbb C^*}$ action. Let S ^[m,m+1] be the incidence Hilbert scheme. Parallel to Li and Qin (2007, Incidence Hilbert schemes and infinite dimensional Lie algebras, Hangzhou), we construct an infinite dimensional Lie algebra that acts on the direct sum $$\widetilde {\mathbb H}_{\mathbb T} = \bigoplus_{m=0}^{+\infty}H^{2(m+1)}_{\mathbb T}(S^{[m,m+1]})$$ of the middle-degree equivariant cohomology group of S ^[m,m+1]. The algebra is related to an infinite dimensional Heisenberg algebra. In addition, we study the transformations among three different linear bases of ${\widetilde {\mathbb H}_{\mathbb T}}$ . Our results are applied to the ring structure of the ordinary cohomology of S ^[m,m+1] and to the ring of symmetric functions in infinitely many variables.
