We introduce power variation constructed from powers of the second-order differences of a discretely observed pure-jump semimartingale processes. We derive the asymptotic behavior of the statistic in the setting of high-frequency observations of the underlying process with a fixed time span. Unlike the standard power variation (formed from the first-order differences of the process), the limit of our proposed statistic is determined solely by the jump component of the process regardless of the activity of the latter. We further show that an associated Central Limit Theorem holds for a wider range of activity of the jump process than for the standard power variation. We apply these results for estimation of the jump activity as well as the integrated stochastic scale.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the speed of convergence of the threshold version of bipower variation for a semimartingale, which is driven by a standard Brownian motion and a pure jump Levy process with possibly infinite activity of the small jumps.  相似文献

We derive Central Limit Theorems for the convergence of approximate quadratic variations, computed on the basis of regularly spaced observation times of the underlying process, toward the true quadratic variation. This problem was solved in the case of an Itô semimartingale having a non-vanishing continuous martingale part. Here we focus on the case where the continuous martingale part vanishes and find faster rates of convergence, as well as very different limiting processes.  相似文献

We consider a new class of estimators for volatility functionals in the setting of frequently observed Itō diffusions which are disturbed by i.i.d. noise. These statistics extend the approach of pre-averaging as a general method for the estimation of the integrated volatility in the presence of microstructure noise and are closely related to the original concept of bipower variation in the no-noise case. We show that this approach provides efficient estimators for a large class of integrated powers of volatility and prove the associated (stable) central limit theorems. In a more general Itō semimartingale framework this method can be used to define both estimators for the entire quadratic variation of the underlying process and jump-robust estimators which are consistent for various functionals of volatility. As a by-product we obtain a simple test for the presence of jumps in the underlying semimartingale.  相似文献

In this paper, we prove some limit theorems for the Fourier estimator of multivariate volatility proposed by Malliavin and Mancino (2002, 2009) [14] and [15]. In a general framework of discrete time observations we establish the convergence of the estimator and some associated central limit theorems with explicit asymptotic variance. In particular, our results show that this estimator is consistent for synchronous data, but possibly biased for non-synchronous observations. Moreover, from our general central limit theorem, we deduce that the estimator can be efficient in the case of a synchronous regular sampling. In the non-synchronous sampling case, the expression of the asymptotic variance is in general less tractable. We study this case more precisely through the example of an alternate sampling.  相似文献

A continuous time random walk (CTRW) is a random walk in which both spatial changes represented by jumps and waiting times between the jumps are random. The CTRW is coupled if a jump and its preceding or following waiting time are dependent random variables (r.v.), respectively. The aim of this paper is to explain the occurrence of different limit processes for CTRWs with forward- or backward-coupling in Straka and Henry (2011) [37] using marked point processes. We also establish a series representation for the different limits. The methods used also allow us to solve an open problem concerning residual order statistics by LePage (1981) [20].  相似文献

We consider regression models with multiple correlated responses for each design point. Under the null hypothesis, a linear regression is assumed. For the least-squares residuals of this linear regression, we establish the limit of the partial sums. This limit is a projection on a certain subspace of the reproducing Kernel Hilbert space of a multivariate Brownian motion. Based on this limit, we propose a significance test of Kolmogorov-Smirnov type to test the null hypothesis and show that this result can be used to study a change-point problem in the case of linear profile data (panel data). We compare our proposed method, which does not rely on any distributional assumptions, with the likelihood ratio test in a simulation study.  相似文献

Trimming is a standard method to decrease the effect of large sample elements in statistical procedures, used, e.g., for constructing robust estimators and tests. Trimming also provides a profound insight into the partial sum behavior of i.i.d. sequences. There is a wide and nearly complete asymptotic theory of trimming, with one remarkable gap: no satisfactory criteria for the central limit theorem for modulus trimmed sums have been found, except for symmetric random variables. In this paper we investigate this problem in the case when the variables are in the domain of attraction of a stable law. Our results show that for modulus trimmed sums the validity of the central limit theorem depends sensitively on the behavior of the tail ratio P(X>t)/P(|X|>t) of the underlying variable X as t and paradoxically, increasing the number of trimmed elements does not generally improve partial sum behavior.  相似文献

Summary. The analytic treatment of problems related to the asymptotic behaviour of random dynamical systems generated by stochastic differential equations suffers from the presence of non-adapted random invariant measures. Semimartingale theory becomes accessible if the underlying Wiener filtration is enlarged by the information carried by the orthogonal projectors on the Oseledets spaces of the (linearized) system. We study the corresponding problem of preservation of the semimartingale property and the validity of a priori inequalities between the norms of stochastic integrals in the enlarged filtration and norms of their quadratic variations in case the random element F enlarging the filtration is real valued and possesses an absolutely continuous law. Applying the tools of Malliavin’s calculus, we give smoothness conditions on F under which the semimartingale property is preserved and a priori martingale inequalities are valid. Itô semimartingales are the semimartingales whose characteristics are absolutely continuous with respect to Lebesgue measure. We study the importance of this assumption for statistical inference on a discretely sampled semimartingale in terms of the identifiability of its characteristics, their estimation, and propose tests of the Itô property against the non-Itô alternative when the observed semimartingale is continuous, or discontinuous with finite activity jumps, and under a number of technical assumptions.  相似文献

Sharp upper and lower bounds are obtained for the reliability functions and the expectations of lifetimes of coherent systems based on dependent exchangeable absolutely continuous components with a given marginal distribution function, by use of the concept of Samaniego's signature. We first show that the distribution of any coherent system based on exchangeable components with absolutely continuous joint distribution is a convex combination of distributions of order statistics (equivalent to the k-out-of-n systems) with the weights identical with the values of the Samaniego signature of the system. This extends the Samaniego representation valid for the case of independent and identically distributed components. Combining the representation with optimal bounds on linear combinations of distribution functions of order statistics from dependent identically distributed samples, we derive the corresponding reliability and expectation bounds, dependent on the signature of the system and marginal distribution of dependent components. We also present the sequences of exchangeable absolutely continuous joint distributions of components which attain the bounds in limit. As an application, we obtain the reliability bounds for all the coherent systems with three and four exchangeable components, expressed in terms of the parent marginal reliability function and specify the respective expectation bounds for exchangeable exponential components, comparing them with the lifetime expectations of systems with independent and identically distributed exponential components.  相似文献

The present paper characterizes various properties of chaos processes which in particular include processes where all time variables admit a Wiener chaos expansion of a fixed finite order. The main focus is on the semimartingale property, pp-variation and continuity. The general results obtained are finally used to characterize when a moving average is a semimartingale.  相似文献

Given a finite collection of continuous semimartingales, we derive a semimartingale decomposition of the corresponding ranked (order-statistics) processes. We apply the decomposition to extend the theory of equity portfolios generated by ranked market weights to the case where the stock values admit triple points.  相似文献

We develop the asymptotic theory for the realised power variation of the processes X=?•GX=?G, where GG is a Gaussian process with stationary increments. More specifically, under some mild assumptions on the variance function of the increments of GG and certain regularity conditions on the path of the process ?? we prove the convergence in probability for the properly normalised realised power variation. Moreover, under a further assumption on the Hölder index of the path of ??, we show an associated stable central limit theorem. The main tool is a general central limit theorem, due essentially to Hu and Nualart [Y. Hu, D. Nualart, Renormalized self-intersection local time for fractional Brownian motion, Ann. Probab. (33) (2005) 948–983], Nualart and Peccati [D. Nualart, G. Peccati, Central limit theorems for sequences of multiple stochastic integrals, Ann. Probab. (33) (2005) 177–193] and Peccati and Tudor [G. Peccati, C.A. Tudor, Gaussian limits for vector-valued multiple stochastic integrals, in: M. Emery, M. Ledoux, M. Yor (Eds.), Seminaire de Probabilites XXXVIII, in: Lecture Notes in Math, vol. 1857, Springer-Verlag, Berlin, 2005, pp. 247–262], for sequences of random variables which admit a chaos representation.  相似文献

A new nonparametric estimator of the local Hurst function of a multifractional Gaussian process based on the increment ratio (IR) statistic is defined. In a general frame, the point-wise and uniform weak and strong consistency and a multidimensional central limit theorem for this estimator are established. Similar results are obtained for a refinement of the generalized quadratic variations (QV) estimator. The example of the multifractional Brownian motion is studied in detail. A simulation study is included showing that the IR-estimator is more accurate than the QV-estimator.  相似文献

Summary This work is concerned with the existence and uniqueness of a class of semimartingale reflecting Brownian motions which live in the non-negative orthant of d . Loosely speaking, such a process has a semimartingale decomposition such that in the interior of the orthant the process behaves like a Brownian motion with a constant drift and covariance matrix, and at each of the (d-1)-dimensional faces that form the boundary of the orthant, the bounded variation part of the process increases in a given direction (constant for any particular face) so as to confine the process to the orthant. For historical reasons, this pushing at the boundary is called instantaneous reflection. In 1988, Reiman and Williams proved that a necessary condition for the existence of such a semimartingale reflecting Brownian motion (SRBM) is that the reflection matrix formed by the directions of reflection be completely-L. In this work we prove that condition is sufficient for the existence of an SRBM and that the SRBM is unique in law. It follows from the uniqueness that an SRBM defines a strong Markov process. Our results have potential application to the study of diffusions arising as approximations tomulti-class queueing networks.Research supported in part by NSF Grants DMS 8657483, 8722351 and 9023335, and a grant from AT&T Bell Labs. Principal component analysis (PCA) is one of the key techniques in functional data analysis. One important feature of functional PCA is that there is a need for smoothing or regularizing of the estimated principal component curves. Silverman’s method for smoothed functional principal component analysis is an important approach in a situation where the sample curves are fully observed due to its theoretical and practical advantages. However, lack of knowledge about the theoretical properties of this method makes it difficult to generalize it to the situation where the sample curves are only observed at discrete time points. In this paper, we first establish the existence of the solutions of the successive optimization problems in this method. We then provide upper bounds for the bias parts of the estimation errors for both eigenvalues and eigenfunctions. We also prove functional central limit theorems for the variation parts of the estimation errors. As a corollary, we give the convergence rates of the estimations for eigenvalues and eigenfunctions, where these rates depend on both the sample size and the smoothing parameters. Under some conditions on the convergence rates of the smoothing parameters, we can prove the asymptotic normalities of the estimations.  相似文献

In this paper, we show that central order statistics from strictly stationary and ergodic sequences are strongly consistent estimators of population quantiles provided that the quantiles are unique. We generalize this result to strictly stationary but not necessarily ergodic sequences. We also describe three types of possible asymptotic behavior of central order statistics in the case when the corresponding population quantile is not unique. We give applications of the presented results to linear processes with both absolutely continuous and discrete innovations.  相似文献
