The characteristic time τD for decoherence process of a quantum nonlinear oscillator system under a non-zero temperature thermal bath is studied by expanding the linear entropy. By numerical analysis, it is shown that at a non-zero temperature, the quantum coherence decays much faster than at zero temperature. Moreover, the non-zero temperature thermal bath will bring a crucial suppression to the quantum effects of the observables, which causes these quantum effects to become unable to persist up to the Ehrenfest time but is insufficient to destroy the quantum-classical transition.  相似文献

Decoherence of quantum objects in noisy environments is important in quantum sciences and technologies. It is generally believed that different processes coupled to the same noise source have similar decoherence behaviors and stronger noises cause faster decoherence. Here we show that in a quantum bath, the case can be the opposite. We predict that the multitransition of a nitrogen-vacancy center spin-1 in diamond can have longer coherence time than the single transitions, even though the former suffers twice stronger noises from the nuclear spin bath than the latter. This anomalous decoherence effect is due to manipulation of the bath evolution via flips of the center spin.  相似文献

I show that the decoherence in a system of degenerate two-level atoms interacting with a bosonic heat bath is for any number of atoms governed by a generalized Hamming distance (called "decoherence metric") between the superposed quantum states, with a time-dependent metric tensor that is specific for the heat bath. The decoherence metric allows for the complete characterization of the decoherence of all possible superpositions of many-particle states, and can be applied to minimize the overall decoherence in a quantum memory. For qubits which are far apart, the decoherence is given by a function describing single-qubit decoherence times the standard Hamming distance. I apply the theory to cold atoms in an optical lattice interacting with blackbody radiation.  相似文献

The well-known increase of the decoherence rate with the temperature, for a quantum system coupled to a linear thermal bath, no longer holds for a different bath dynamics. This is shown by means of a simple classical nonlinear bath, as well as a quantum spin-boson model. The anomalous effect is due to the temperature dependence of the bath spectral profile. In the case of the second model, a link with the quantum Zeno effect is provided. The decoherence reduction via the temperature increase can be relevant for the design of quantum computers.  相似文献

A two-particle interferometer is theoretically analyzed to show how decoherence induced by interactions with the environment affects time correlations, a process we call time correlation decoherence. Specifically, on the basis of simple mathematical analysis, we show how the interaction between a bipartite entangled system and a photon bath representing the environment can efface the oscillations in the coincidence detection rate of the interferometer. We discuss the dependence of this kind of decoherence on the photon energy and density.  相似文献

We consider environment induced decoherence of quantum superpositions to mixtures in the limit in which that process is much faster than any competing one generated by the Hamiltonian H(sys) of the isolated system. While the golden rule then does not apply we can discard H(sys). By allowing for couplings to different reservoirs, we reveal decoherence as a universal short-time phenomenon independent of the character of the system as well as the bath and of the basis the superimposed states are taken from. We discuss consequences for the classical behavior of the macroworld and quantum measurement: For decoherence of superpositions of macroscopically distinct states H(sys) is always negligible.  相似文献

In this work, we consider decoherence of a central spin by a spin bath. In order to study the nonperturbative decoherence regimes, we develop an efficient mean-field-based method for modeling the spin-bath decoherence, based on the representation of the central spin density matrix. The method can be applied to longitudinal and transverse relaxation at different external fields. In particular, by modeling large-size quantum systems (up to 16 000 bath spins), we make controlled predictions for the slow long-time decoherence of the central spin.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose a scheme to protect quantum entanglement and coherence from a non-Markovian noisy environment. By applying two quantum weak measurements before and after sending the quantum state into the noisy channel, the quantum state can be “pushed” closer to a decoherence free state thus suffer less decoherence in the time evolution. After the time evolution the second weak measurement can partially retrieve the original information encoded in the quantum system. Our study is based on a non-Markovian dynamic equation which allows us to investigate the impact of the memory effect on the performance of the protection scheme. We analyze several factors that may affect the protection efficiency. The results suggest that two measurement strengths should be chosen in a linear relation but the ratio is not one. Besides, we also show the memory effect can drastically improve the protection efficiency.  相似文献

In the framework of the Lindblad theory for open quantum systems, we determine the degree of quantum decoherence of a harmonic oscillator interacting with a thermal bath. It is found that the system manifests a quantum decoherence which is more and more significant in time. We also calculate the decoherence time and show that it has the same scale as the time after which thermal fluctuations become comparable with quantum fluctuations. A molecular system in contact with a bath undergoes strong decoherence processes. We examine a control scheme to minimize dissipation, while maximally retaining coherent evolution, by relating the evolution of the molecule to that of an identical freely propagating system. We seek a driving field that maximizes the projection of the open molecular system onto the freely propagated one. The evolution in time of a molecular system consisting of two nonadiabatically coupled electronic states interacting with a bath is followed. The driving control field that overcomes the decoherence is calculated. A proposition to implement the scheme in the laboratory using feedback control is suggested.  相似文献

We propose a scheme to characterize the non-Markovian dynamics and quantify the non-Markovianity via the non-classicality measured by the negativity of quantumness. By considering a qubit in contact with a critical Ising spin bath and introducing an ancilla, we show that revivals of negativity of quantumness indicate the non-Markovian dynamics. Furthermore, a normalized measure of non-Markovianity based on the negativity of quantumness is introduced and the influences of bath criticality, bath temperature and bath size on the non-Markovianity are discussed. It is shown that, at the critical point, the decay of non-Markovianity versus the size of spin bath is the fastest and the non-Markovianity is exactly zero only in the thermodynamic limit. Besides, non-trivial behaviours of negativity of quantumness such as sudden change, double sudden changes and keeping constant are found for different relations between parameters of the initial state. Finally, how the non-classicality of the system is affected by a series of bang-bang pulses is also examined.  相似文献

We study the dynamics and protection of tripartite quantum correlations in terms of genuinely tripartite concurrence, lower bound of concurrence and tripartite geometric quantum discord in a three-qubit system interacting with independent thermal bath. By comparing the dynamics of entanglement with that of quantum discord for initial GHZ state and W state, we find that W state is more robust than GHZ state, and quantum discord performs better than entanglement against the decoherence induced by the thermal bath. When the bath temperature is low, for the initial GHZ state, combining weak measurement and measurement reversal is necessary for a successful protection of quantum correlations. But for the initial W state, the protection depends solely upon the measurement reversal. In addition, the protection cannot usually be realized irrespective of the initial states as the bath temperature increases.  相似文献

In the framework of the Lindblad theory for open quantum systems we determine the degree of quantum decoherence and classical correlations of a harmonic oscillator interacting with a thermal bath. The transition from quantum to classical behaviour of the considered system is analysed and it is shown that the classicality takes place during a finite interval of time. We calculate also the decoherence time and show that it has the same scale as the time after which statistical fluctuations become comparable with quantum fluctuations.  相似文献

We study a scheme of thermal management where a three-qubit system assisted with a coherent auxiliary bath (CAB) is employed to implement heat management on a target thermal bath (TTB). We consider the CAB/TTB being ensemble of coherent/thermal two-level atoms (TLAs), and within the framework of collision model investigate the characteristics of steady heat current (also called target heat current (THC)) between the system and the TTB. It demonstrates that with the help of the quantum coherence of ancillae the magnitude and direction of heat current can be controlled only by adjusting the coupling strength of system-CAB. Meanwhile, we also show that the influences of quantum coherence of ancillae on the heat current strongly depend on the coupling strength of system—CAB, and the THC becomes positively/negatively correlated with the coherence magnitude of ancillae when the coupling strength below/over some critical value. Besides, the system with the CAB could serve as a multifunctional device integrating the thermal functions of heat amplifier, suppressor, switcher and refrigerator, while with thermal auxiliary bath it can only work as a thermal suppressor. Our work provides a new perspective for the design of multifunctional thermal device utilizing the resource of quantum coherence from the CAB.  相似文献

The problem of how to define and compute temperature fluctuations for a small system in contact with a heat bath is an old one and originates from Einstein’s theory of Brownian motion. Only for a small enough system does their relative size allow a straightforward experimental verification. Here we focus on a mesoscopic system in contact with a heat bath at temperature T ° and provide a self-consistent argument showing as to why, and in what sense, the observable standard deviation of temperature from T ° equals $\sqrt{k_{\rm B}/C}T_{\circ}$ where C is the mesoscopic system’s heat capacity. Our argument is based on ergodic decomposition, a simple fact that holds for a system in thermodynamic equilibrium and away from phase-transition points. In this way we close a line of argument opened by de Haas-Lorentz a century ago.  相似文献

We have studied the effect of a non-Hermitian Bosonic bath on the dynamics of a two-level spin system. The non-Hermitian Hamiltonian of the bath is chosen such that it converges to the harmonic oscillator Hamiltonian when the non-Hermiticity is switched off. We calculate the dynamics of the spin system and found that the non-Hermiticity can have positive as well as negative effects on the coherence of the system. However, the decoherence can be completely eliminated by choosing the non-Hermiticity parameter and the phase of the system bath interaction appropriately. We have also studied the effect of this bath on the entanglement of a two-spin system when the bath is acting only on one spin.  相似文献

We consider the problem of metastability for a stochastic dynamics with a parallel updating rule with single spin rates equal to those of the heat bath for the Ising nearest neighbors interaction. We study the exit from the metastable phase, we describe the typical exit path and evaluate the exit time. We prove that the phenomenology of metastability is different from the one observed in the case of the serial implementation of the heat bath dynamics. In particular we prove that an intermediate chessboard phase appears during the excursion from the minus metastable phase toward the plus stable phase.  相似文献

For a mesoscopic radio frequency superconducting quantum interference device (rfSQUID), at a degeneracy point, the system reduces to a quantum two-state system which can be used as a flux qubit. When the noise environment is equivalent to a harmonic oscillators bath, by virtue of an operator-norm measure for the short time decoherence, this paper investigates the initial decoherence of the flux qubit operating in the ohmic noise environment and illustrates its property by means of the numerical evaluation.  相似文献
