We prepared sulfide glasses based on a Ga2S3-GeS2-Sb2S3 system and investigated the compositional dependences of their physico-chemical properties and structure. Additivities were observed for density and refractive index; i.e., these properties were presented by the summation of the contribution from each component. With the increase of Sb2S3 content, the density, refractive index, and thermal expansion coefficient increased while the glass transition and softening temperatures decreased, and the short-wavelength absorption edge shifted to the longer wavelength side. These variations are expected from the incorporation of a heavy element (Sb) into the glasses. On the other hand, the replacement of GeS2 by Ga2S3 increased the density and refractive index, and shifted the short-wavelength absorption edge to the longer wavelength side. These variations were explained by the increase of the number densities of the cations with the replacement and the formation of metal-metal bonds. The latter was confirmed from the Raman spectra. We also investigated the effects of Ag2S incorporation on the optical properties. The incorporation of Ag2S increased the density and refractive index whereas the position of the short-wavelength absorption edge varied little. These results show the possibility of fabricating an optical waveguide by Ag incorporation into the glasses.  相似文献

The optical absorption spectra of xPbO-(100 − x) P2O5 glasses where x = 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 is reported. The spectral absorption of these glasses was measured in the spectral range 300-900 nm at room temperature. Optical absorption spectra show that the absorption edge has a tail extending towards lower energies. The edge shifts nearly linearly towards higher energies with increasing PbO content. The degree of the edge shift was found to depend on the PbO content and is mostly related to the structural rearrangement and the relative concentrations of the glass basic units. The optical energy gap increases, from 2.55 to 3.05 eV by increasing PbO content from 5 to 30 mol%. The width of the localized states is decreased by increasing PbO content.  相似文献

Four ZnO-Bi2O3-TeO2 glasses were prepared from high purity (4N5) oxides. From measurements of the optical transmission on very thin bulk samples the optical gap was determined at around 3.55 eV for the glasses studied. The temperature dependence of the optical gap was also determined from the room temperature close up to 500 K. Preliminary Raman scattering measurements indicate that with a decrease in TeO2 content, TeO4 trigonal bipyramid transformation proceeds into TeO3 trigonal pyramids.  相似文献

The thermodynamic properties of transparent glasses prepared in the TeO2-Ga2O3 system were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry. The change of the thermal parameters as a function of the chemical composition is discussed. Raman and both Te LIII and Ga K edge X-ray absorption spectroscopies at room temperature were used to examine the short range order. Analyses of the spectra suggest that the addition of Ga2O3 content to the TeO2 glass matrix induces the transformation of trigonal bipyramids (TeO4E, E=lone electronic pair 5s2 of Te) to trigonal pyramids (TeO3E) with formation of Te-O-Ga bridging bonds. Furthermore, Ga K edge XANES and EXAFS studies show that Ga atoms exhibit both tetrahedral (GaO4) and octahedral (GaO6) environments.  相似文献

Chalcogenide glasses are interesting materials due to their infrared transmitting properties and photo-induced effects exhibited by them. Thin films of the glasses Sn10Sb20−xBixSe70 (0 x 8) prepared by melt quenching technique were evaporated in a vacuum better than 10−5 mbar. Optical transmission spectra of all the deposited films were obtained in a range 400–2500 nm. The optical band gap and the absorption coefficient were calculated from the transmission data and refractive index was calculated using the swanepoel method. The optical band gap initially increases with increase in Bi content (for x = 2) and then decreases sharply for higher Bi concentrations. The refractive index as well as absorption coefficient decrease with increase in wavelength. The dark activation energy initially increases with increase in Bi content and then decreases with further addition.  相似文献

As2S3-Cu6PS5I nanocomposites are prepared by incorporation of nanocrystals of Cu6PS5I superionic conductor in As2S3 glass matrix. Their structural studies by scanning electronic microscopy are performed and the electrical conductivity of the nanocomposites is investigated. The temperature dependence of the nanocomposite optical absorption edge is studied; a non-Urbach behaviour of the absorption edge is revealed. Influence of different types of disordering on the optical absorption edge is studied.  相似文献

Four glasses of the SiO2-GeO2 binary system have been synthesized via a sol-gel route followed by a heat treatment and a quench. Glass structure has been determined by Ge K-edge X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) at low temperature and Raman spectroscopy. These mixed glasses present a continuous random network of interconnected GeO4 and SiO4 tetrahedra, with GeO4 tetrahedra similar to the GeO4 units in GeO2 glass and continuous compositional variations from GeO2-rich regions to SiO2-rich regions. Such a random mixture is consistent with physical properties of these binary glasses as well as with the chemical dependence of their polyamorphism at high pressure. This EXAFS-derived mean Ge-O-Si angles are close to the Ge-O-Ge mean angle in GeO2 glass, 134° and 130°, respectively. This misfit with the Si-O-Si angles might explain the ease of formation of isolated and pair defects centers, which are suspected to be at the origin of photo-induced modifications of optical properties in Ge-bearing SiO2 glasses.  相似文献

New class of chalcohalide glasses has been prepared in the GeS2–In2S3–CsI system with regard to their potential non-linear properties. The study of glass-forming region was undertaken to select glassy compositions, which present high non-linear (NL) optical properties with a low two-photon absorption. Thermal analyses, structural examination by Raman spectroscopy, non-linear optical measurements were investigated as a function of CsI contents. Introduction of CsI has shifted the band-gap edge towards the blue region of the absorption optical spectrum and therefore has limited the two-photon absorption. Their NL refractive index n2 are 60 times higher than silica glasses without any NL absorption. Moreover, second harmonic signal was observed in thermally poled samples similar to silica glass. However, this second order non-linearity is not temporally stable.  相似文献

This study was explored in series of the optical, thermal, and structure properties based on 60P2O5-10Al2O3-30ZnO (PAZ) glasses system that doped with varied rare-earth (RE) elements Yb2O3/Er2O3. The glass transition temperature, softening temperature and chemical durability were increased with RE-doping concentrations increasing, whereas thermal expansion coefficient was decreased. In the optical properties, the absorption and emission intensities also increase with RE-doping concentrations increasing, When Er2O3 and Yb2O3 concentrations are over than 3 mol% in the Er3+-doped PAZ system and Yb3+-doped concentration is over than 3 mol% for Er3+/Yb3+-codoped PAZ system, the emission intensity significantly decreases presumably due to concentration quenching, formation of the ions clustering, and OH groups in the glasses network. It is suggested that the maximum emission cross-section (σe) is 7.64 × 10− 21 cm2 at 1535 nm is observed for 3 mol% Er3+-doped PAZ glasses. Moreover, the maximum σe × full-width-at-half-maximum is 327.8 for 5 mol% Er3+-doped PAZ glasses.  相似文献

The temperature studies of transmission spectra for as-deposited and annealed amorphous As2S3 thin films are carried out. The optical absorption spectra in the range of their exponential behaviour are analysed, and the dispersion dependences of refractive index as well as their temperature variation are investigated. The Urbach behaviour of optical absorption edge is revealed, the Urbach absorption edge parameters are determined, and their temperature dependences are studied. The effect of different type of disordering on the optical absorption processes in As2S3 thin films is studied. A comparative analysis of Urbach absorption edge parameters of As2S3 bulk glasses and thin films is performed.  相似文献

A series of bismuth tungsten tellurite glasses were prepared and their densities, linear refractive indices and transmission spectra were measured. The optical bandgaps Eopt and Urbach energies Ee of glasses were obtained from ultraviolet absorption edges. Both the optical gap (Eopt) and the band tail (Ee) are behaving oppositely. As the value of Eopt decreases with increasing WO3 content, the degree of disorder increases which causes more defects or localized states resulting in deep localized in the bandgap with the tailing increased. Z-scan technique was carried out to investigate the third-order nonlinear optical properties of Bi2O3-WO3-TeO2 glasses. The third-order optical nonlinearity increases with decreasing the optical bandgap Eopt, since a increase of WO3 content can provide the non-bridging oxygen ion content.  相似文献

Glasses of the Bi2O3-TeO2-B2O3 ternary system were developed and their linear and nonlinear optical properties were investigated. The absorption edges of these glasses were found to be 367-384 nm with a good transmittance in visible wavelength, although they exhibit the refractive indices as high as 1.98-2.12 at 633 nm. The absorption edges are quite steep and they are analyzed by the Urbach theory. The obtained Urbach energies of these glasses are 73-79 meV which are comparable to silica glasses. The high refractive index and its glass composition dependency are discussed according to the basics of the electronic polarizability and optical basicity. The high third order nonlinear susceptibility χ(3) = 2.0 × 10− 12 esu at 800 nm was also obtained in the 36Bi2O3-18TeO2-46B2O3 glass.  相似文献

Specimens of the glassy system: (70 − x)TeO2 + 15B2O3 + 15P2O5 + xLi2O, where x = 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 mol% were prepared by the melt-quenching. An ultrasonic pulse-echo technique was employed, at 5 MHz, for measuring: the ultrasonic attenuation, longitudinal and shear wave velocities, elastic moduli, Poisson ratio, Debye temperature and hardness of the present glasses. It is found that the gradual replacement of TeO2 by Li2O in the glass matrix up to 30 mol% leads to decrease the average crosslink density and rigidity of prepared samples which affects the properties, i.e., the hardness, ultrasonic wave velocities and elastic moduli are decreased, while the Poisson ratio and the ultrasonic attenuation are increased. Also, optical absorption spectra were recorded in the range, 200-800 nm for these glasses. The obtained results showed that a gradual shift in the fundamental absorption edge toward longer wavelengths occurred. Values of both of the optical energy gap, Eopt, and width tails, ΔE, are determined. It is observed that Eopt is decreased and ΔE increased with the increase of Li2O in the glass matrix up to 30 mol%. The compositional dependences of the above properties are discussed and correlated to the structure of tested glasses.  相似文献

Ge2.5PSx glasses were studied with a combination of Raman spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance, and neutron diffraction. From these experiments the distribution of bonding configurations was determined, and used to explain the compositional dependence of the index of refraction and the glass transition temperature. On reducing the sulfur content of these glasses below the stoichiometric amount, the sulfur deficit is accommodated by the progressive loss of the non-bridging sulfur of SPS3/2 groups, followed by the conversion of the resultant PS3/2 groups into species such as P4S3 characterized by P-P bonding. The presence of metal-metal bonds involving germanium, found in samples with the lowest sulfur content, was found to be the most important structural feature in determining the optical response.  相似文献

The optical transmittance of chalcogenide glasses Ge2SbSe7 (I), Ge3SbSe6 (II), GeSb2Se7 (III) and GeSbSe3 (IV) was studied in the near infrared spectral region, 0.7–25 μm. The longwavelength tail of the absorption edge can be described by Urbach's rule. At higher absorption levels the absorption coefficient K depends quadratically on the energy of incident radiation. The temperature dependence of the absorption edge is discussed and the optical gaps 1.77 eV (I), 1.67 eV (II), 1.66 eV (III), 1.57 eV (IV) together with the corresponding temperature coefficients are also determined. The studied glasses are quite transparent in the 600–5000 cm?1 wavenumber range.  相似文献

The evolution of structure, phase composition and spectroscopic properties of CoO-doped (up to 5 mol%) titania-containing zinc aluminosilicate glasses with their heat-treatment has been studied using Raman scattering, small angle X-ray scattering, X-ray diffraction analysis and optical absorption spectra. Addition of cobalt oxide was observed to facilitate amorphous phase separation of the parent glass and gahnite, ZnAl2O4, crystallization. Cobalt oxide entered phases formed during low-temperature heat-treatments (720 °C), i.e., amorphous phase, enriched in ZnO, Al2O3 and TiO2 and crystalline phase of gahnite. The absorption of these glass-ceramics was defined mainly by tetrahedral Co2+ ions located in gahnite nanocrystals. As the temperature was increased further, traces of anosovite solid solution appeared and then decomposed. Even after high-temperature heat-treatments, a certain portion of Co2+ ions remained in amorphous zinc aluminotitanate phase and in octahedral sites of inversed gahnite spinel. In glass-ceramics, the residual high silica amorphous phase contained a small quantity of [TiO4] centers, which content was smaller in Co:ZAS samples as compared with non-doped glass-ceramics.  相似文献

xTiO2-(60 − x)SiO2-40Na2O glasses have proven an interesting linear and non-linear optical properties [M. Abdel-Baki, F. Abdel Wahab, F. El-Diasty, Mater. Chem. Phys. 96 (2006) 201]. The investigated glasses show one order of magnitude enhancement for the second-order index of refraction and third-order optical susceptibility over some TiO2 silicate glasses. In this work, we continue studying these glasses using three different techniques to analyze the glass structures seeking to provide a deep insight for the relation between structure, compositions and the optical characteristics of these glasses. Radial Distribution Function analysis (RDF) combined Raman spectroscopy are used to study these glasses. Positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy and Doppler broadening measurements are carried out to investigate the change in the glass structure as the incorporation of TiO2 concentration into glass. The origin of the non-bridging oxygen (NBO) bonds has been traced to correlate their existence with the measured non-linear optical properties of the investigated glasses.  相似文献

PbO-Bi2O3-Ga2O3 glasses present interesting properties such as good transmission in the mid-infrared region, high magnetic Verdet constant and non-linear properties. The processing of these heavy-metal-oxide (HMO) glasses is limited by the high corrosive nature of the melt, even in relation to noble metal crucibles. In this work, three kinds of ceramic crucibles (alumina, tin oxide and zirconia) were tested for melting HMO glasses. The main physical properties of the prepared glasses, such as the characteristic temperatures, optical transmission were studied in function of the crucible nature, time/temperature melting parameters. The incorporation of crucible material in the glasses was determined by ICP and atomic absorption. The maximum glass contamination from the crucible was 2.9, 1.6 and 3.6 mol% for Al2O3, SnO2 and ZrO2 crucibles, respectively, when melting was done at 900 °C/240 min, for zirconia crucibles and at 1000 °C/60 min, for the other two crucibles. The evolution of the physical properties was discussed as a function of contamination degree.  相似文献

Oxy-chalcogenide glasses with compositions of xGeO2-(100 − x)GeS2, where 0 ? x ? 100 mol%, have been prepared and studied in terms of their structures and optical properties. X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy shows that Ge:S ratio can deviate from GeS2 by ∼10 at.%, depending critically upon the preparation conditions. Raman scattering spectroscopy suggests that stoichiometric GeO2-GeS2 glasses have a heterogeneous structure in the scale of 1-100 nm. The optical gaps are nearly constant at 3.0-3.5 eV for glasses with 0 ? x ? 80 mol% and abruptly increase to ∼6 eV in GeO2. This dependence suggests that the optical gap is governed by GeS2 clusters, which are isolated and/or percolated. Composition-deviated glasses appear as orange and brown, and these glasses seem to have more inhomogeneous structures.  相似文献

Cerium oxide is commonly added to silicate glasses as an optical property modifier. In particular, UV absorption, decoloration via redox coupling, and resistance to radiation-induced darkening are influenced by the addition of this rare-earth oxide. However, the limited solubility and visible color of rare-earth oxides in silicate glasses prevent any further beneficial enhancement of properties which might result from increasing the CeO2 content. In contrast, rare-earth oxides are extremely soluble in phosphate glasses; for example, a binary cerium phosphate glass can incorporate up to 40 mol% CeO2. Moreover, since the UV absorption edge of the phosphate network is blue-shifted compared to the silicate network, the effect of the Ce3+ absorption band tail on yellow coloration can be minimized. In this study, glasses in the cerium aluminosilicophosphate system were synthesized and a variety of physical and optical properties were measured including: density, refractive index, glass transition temperature, hardness, fracture toughness, and the location of the UV absorption edge. At ~9 mol% CeO2, these cerium aluminosilicophosphate glasses exhibit similar coloration to commercially available silicate glasses which contain ~0.4 mol% CeO2. Semi-quantitative photoemission analysis of the Ce oxidation states showed insignificant differences in the Ce3+/Ce4+ ratio between the phosphate and silicate glass systems.  相似文献
