We consider the general nonlinear differential equation with xR2 and develop a method to determine the basin of attraction of a periodic orbit. Borg's criterion provides a method to prove existence, uniqueness and exponential stability of a periodic orbit and to determine a subset of its basin of attraction. In order to use the criterion one has to find a function WC1(R2,R) such that LW(x)=W(x)+L(x) is negative for all xK, where K is a positively invariant set. Here, L(x) is a given function and W(x) denotes the orbital derivative of W. In this paper we prove the existence and smoothness of a function W such that LW(x)=−μf(x)‖. We approximate the function W, which satisfies the linear partial differential equation W(x)=〈∇W(x),f(x)〉=−μf(x)‖−L(x), using radial basis functions and obtain an approximation w such that Lw(x)<0. Using radial basis functions again, we determine a positively invariant set K so that we can apply Borg's criterion. As an example we apply the method to the Van-der-Pol equation.  相似文献

Let m be a countably additive vector measure with values in a real Banach space X, and let L1(m) and Lw(m) be the spaces of functions which are, correspondingly, integrable and weakly integrable with respect to m. Given a Young's function Φ, we consider the vector measure Orlicz spaces LΦ(m) and LΦw(m) and establish that the Banach space of multiplication operators going from W = LΦ(m) into Y = L1 (m) is M = LΨw (m) with an equivalent norm; here Ψ is the conjugated Young's function for Φ. We also prove that when W = LΦw(m), Y = L1(m) we have M = LΨw (m), and when W = LΦw(m), Y = L1(m) we have M = LΨ (m).  相似文献

LetP⊂[0, 1]dbe ann-point set and letw: P→[0, ∞) be a weight function withw(P)=∑zP w(z)=1. TheL2-discrepancy of the weighted set (P, w) is defined as theL2-average ofD(x)=vol(Bx)−w(PBx) overx∈[0, 1]d, where vol(Bx) is the volume of thed-dimensional intervalBx=∏dk=1 [0, xk). The exponent of discrepancyp* is defined as the infimum of numberspsuch that for all dimensionsd⩾1 and allε>0 there exists a weighted set of at mostppoints in [0, 1]dwithL2-discrepancy at mostε, whereK=K(p) is a suitable number independent ofεandd. Wasilkowski and Woźniakowski proved thatp*⩽1.4779, by combining known bounds for the error of numerical integration and using their relation toL2-discrepancy. In this note we observe that a careful treatment of a classical lower- bound proof of Roth yieldsp*⩾1.04882, and by a slight modification of the proof we getp*⩾1.0669. Determiningp* exactly seems to be quite a difficult problem.  相似文献

Let F(x,y) be the free groupoid on two generators x and y. Define an infinite class of words in F(x,y) by w0(x,y) = x,w1(x,y) = y and wi+2(x,y) = wi(x,y)wi+1(x,y). An identity of the form w3n(x,y) = x is called a cyclic identity and a quasigroup satisfying a cyclic identity is called a cyclic quasigroup. The most extensively studied cyclic quasigroups have been models of the identity y(xy) = x. The more general notion of cyclic quasigroups was introduced by N.S. Mendelsohn. In this paper a new construction for cyclic quasigroups is given. This construction is useful in constructing large numbers of nonisomorphic quasigroups satisfying a given cyclic identity or a consequence of a cyclic identity. The construction is based on a generalization of A. Sade's singular direct product of quasigroups.  相似文献

For the system of root functions of an operator defined by the differential operation ?u″ + p(x)u′ + q(x)u, xG = (0, 1), with complex-valued singular coefficients, sufficient conditions for the Bessel property in the space L2(G) are obtained and a theorem on the unconditional basis property is proved. It is assumed that the functions p(x) and q(x) locally belong to the spaces L2 and W2?1, respectively, and may have singularities at the endpoints of G such that q(x) = qR(x) +qS(x) and the functions qS(x), p(x), q 2 S (x)w(x), p2(x)w(x), and qR(x)w(x) are integrable on the whole interval G, where w(x) = x(1 ? x).  相似文献

We consider weak solutions to the nonlinear boundary value problem (r, (x, u(x)) u′(x))′ = (Fu)′(x) with r(0, u(0)) u′(0) = ku(0), r(L, u(L)) u′(L) = hu(L) and k, h are suitable elements of [0, ∞]. In addition to studying some new boundary conditions, we also relax the constraints on r(x, u) and (Fu)(x). r(x, u) > 0 may have a countable set of jump discontinuities in u and r(x, u)?1?Lq((0, L) × (0, p)). F is an operator from a suitable set of functions to a subset of Lp(0, L) which have nonnegative values. F includes, among others, examples of the form (Fu)(x) = (1 ? H(x ? x0)) u(x0), (Fu)(x) = ∫xLf(y, u(y)) dy where f(y, u) may have a countable set of jump discontinuities in u or F may be chosen so that (Fu)′(x) = ? g(x, u(x)) u′(x) ? q(x) u(x) ? f(x, u(x)) where q is a distributional derivative of an L2(0, L) function.  相似文献

Democracy functions of wavelet admissible bases are computed for weighted Orlicz Spaces L ??(w) in terms of the fundamental function of L ??(w). In particular, we prove that these bases are greedy in L ??(w) if and only if L ??(w) =?L p (w), 1?<?p?<???. Also, sharp embeddings for the approximation spaces are given in terms of weighted discrete Lorentz spaces. For L p (w) the approximation spaces are identified with weighted Besov spaces.  相似文献

The main result of this paper is the following: the only zeros of the title function are at n = 3 and n = 12. This is achieved by means of the recursion function for f(n), viz. F(x) = x3 ? x ? 1 which has only one real root w. This turns out to be the fundamental unit of Q(w). From the norm equation of the units, N(w) = x3 + y3 + z3 ? 3xyz + 2x2z + xz2 ? xy2 ? yz2 = 1, and the negative powers of w which are of binary form, the result follows. The paper concludes with two remarkable combinatorial identities.  相似文献

In classical theorems on the convergence of Gaussian quadrature formulas for power orthogonal polynomials with respect to a weight w on I =(a,b),a function G ∈ S(w):= { f:∫I | f(x)| w(x)d x < ∞} satisfying the conditions G 2j(x) ≥ 0,x ∈(a,b),j = 0,1,...,and growing as fast as possible as x → a + and x → b,plays an important role. But to find such a function G is often difficult and complicated. This implies that to prove convergence of Gaussian quadrature formulas,it is enough to find a function G ∈ S(w) with G ≥ 0 satisfying sup n ∑λ0knG(xkn) k=1 n<∞ instead, where the xkn ’s are the zeros of the n th power orthogonal polynomial with respect to the weight w and λ0kn ’s are the corresponding Cotes numbers.Furthermore, some results of the convergence for Gaussian quadrature formulas involving the above condition are given.  相似文献

We show that the Poisson maximal operator for the tube over the light-cone, P *, is bounded in the weighted space L p (w) if and only if the weight w(x) belongs to the Muckenhoupt class A p . We also characterize with a geometric condition related to the intrinsic geometry of the cone the weights v(x) for which P * is bounded from L p (v) into L p (u), for some other weight u(x) > 0. Some applications to a.e. restricted convergence of Poisson integrals are given.  相似文献

By constructing an available integral operator and combining fixed point index theory with properties of Green’s function and Hölder’s inequality, this paper shows the existence of multiple positive solutions for a class of nonlocal boundary value problem of second-order differential equations λ x″(t)+w(t)f(t,x(t))=0, 0<t<1. The interesting point is that the term w(t) is L p -integrable for some 1≤p≤+∞. We illustrate our results by one example, which can not be handled using the existing results.  相似文献

Controlling a one-dimensional hyperbolic equation at x = 0 is considered so as best to follow a motion z(t) in L2(0, T) at x = L. This is to be done in the presence of pointwise constraints on the stress function and constraints on the acceleration. Existence, approximation, and regularity are considered for penalizations of regularized problems.  相似文献

The main idea of this paper is to clarify why it is sometimes incorrect to interpolate inequalities in a “formal” way. For this we consider two Hardy type inequalities, which are true for each parameter α≠0 but which fail for the “critical” point α=0. This means that we cannot interpolate these inequalities between the noncritical points α=1 and α=?1 and conclude that it is also true at the critical point α=0. Why? An accurate analysis shows that this problem is connected with the investigation of the interpolation of intersections (NL p(w0), N∩Lp(w1)), whereN is the linear space which consists of all functions with the integral equal to 0. We calculate theK-functional for the couple (NL p(w0),NL p (w1)), which turns out to be essentially different from theK-functional for (L p(w0), Lp(w1)), even for the case whenNL p(wi) is dense inL p(wi) (i=0,1). This essential difference is the reason why the “naive” interpolation above gives an incorrect result.  相似文献

Explicit formulae are given for the Hilbert transform $f_\mathbb{R} $ w(t)dt/(t ? x), where w is either the generalized Laguerre weight function w(t) = 0 if t ≤ 0, w(t) = t α e ?t if 0 <#60; t <#60; ∞, and α > ?1, x > 0, or the Hermite weight function w(t) = e ?t 2, ?∞ <#60; t <#60; ∞, and ?∞ <#60; x <#60; ∞. Furthermore, numerical methods of evaluation are discussed based on recursion, contour integration and saddle-point asymptotics, and series expansions. We also study the numerical stability of the three-term recurrence relation satisfied by the integrals $f_\mathbb{R} $ π n (t;w)w(t)dt/(t ? x), n = 0 ,1 ,2 ,..., where π n (?w) is the generalized Laguerre, resp. the Hermite, polynomial of degree n.  相似文献

Let L be a locally finite lattice. An order function ν on L is a function defined on pairs of elements x, y (with xy) in L such that ν(x, y) = ν(x, z) ν(z, y). The Rédei zeta function of L is given by ?(s; L) = Σx∈Lμ(Ô, x) ν(Ô, x)?s. It generalizes the following functions: the chromatic polynomial of a graph, the characteristic polynomial of a lattice, the inverse of the Dedekind zeta function of a number field, the inverse of the Weil zeta function for a variety over a finite field, Philip Hall's φ-function for a group and Rédei's zeta function for an abelian group. Moreover, the paradigmatic problem in all these areas can be stated in terms of the location of the zeroes of the Rédei zeta function.  相似文献

Let Z(t) be the population at time t of a critical age-dependent branching process. Suppose that the offspring distribution has a generating function of the form f(s) = s + (1 ? s)1+αL(1 ? s) where α ∈ (0, 1) and L(x) varies slowly as x → 0+. Then we find, as t → ∞, (P{Z(t)> 0})αL(P{Z(t)>0})~ μ/αt where μ is the mean lifetime of each particle. Furthermore, if we condition the process on non-extinction at time t, the random variable P{Z(t)>0}Z(t) converges in law to a random variable with Laplace-Stieltjes transform 1 - u(1 + uα)?1/α for u ?/ 0. Moment conditions on the lifetime distribution required for the above results are discussed.  相似文献

Associated with an n×n matrix polynomial of degree , are the eigenvalue problem P(λ)x=0 and the linear system problem P(ω)x=b, where in the latter case x is to be computed for many values of the parameter ω. Both problems can be solved by conversion to an equivalent problem L(λ)z=0 or L(ω)z=c that is linear in the parameter λ or ω. This linearization process has received much attention in recent years for the eigenvalue problem, but it is less well understood for the linear system problem. We develop a framework in which more general versions of both problems can be analyzed, based on one-sided factorizations connecting a general nonlinear matrix function N(λ) to a simpler function M(λ), typically a polynomial of degree 1 or 2. Our analysis relates the solutions of the original and lower degree problems and in the linear system case indicates how to choose the right-hand side c and recover the solution x from z. For the eigenvalue problem this framework includes many special cases studied in the literature, including the vector spaces of pencils L1(P) and L2(P) recently introduced by Mackey, Mackey, Mehl, and Mehrmann and a class of rational problems. We use the framework to investigate the conditioning and stability of the parametrized linear system P(ω)x=b and thereby study the effect of scaling, both of the original polynomial and of the pencil L. Our results identify situations in which scaling can potentially greatly improve the conditioning and stability and our numerical results show that dramatic improvements can be achieved in practice.  相似文献

We obtain some integro-local and integral limit theorems for the sums S(n) = ξ(1) + ? + ξ(n) of independent random variables with general semiexponential distribution (i.e., a distribution whose right tail has the form $P(\xi \ge t) = e^{ - t^\beta L(t)} $ , where β ∈ (0, 1) and L(t) is a slowly varying function with some smoothness properties). These theorems describe the asymptotic behavior as x → ∞ of the probabilities P(S(n) ∈ [x, x + Δ)) and P(S(n) ≥ x) in the zone of normal deviations and all zones of large deviations of x: in the Cramér and intermediate zones, and also in the “extreme” zone where the distribution of S(n) is approximated by that of the maximal summand.  相似文献

This paper deals with the behavior of the nonnegative solutions of the problem $$- \Delta u = V(x)u, \left. u \right|\partial \Omega = \varphi (x)$$ in a conical domain Ω ? ? n , n ≥ 3, where 0 ≤ V (x) ∈ L1(Ω), 0 ≤ ?(x) ∈ L1(?Ω) and ?(x) is continuous on the boundary ?Ω. It is proved that there exists a constant C *(n) = (n ? 2)2/4 such that if V 0(x) = (c + λ 1)|x|?2, then, for 0 ≤ cC *(n) and V(x) ≤ V 0(x) in the domain Ω, this problem has a nonnegative solution for any nonnegative boundary function ?(x) ∈ L 1(?Ω); for c > C *(n) and V(x) ≥ V 0(x) in Ω, this problem has no nonnegative solutions if ?(x) > 0.  相似文献
