[2+2] Cycloaddition of benzyne to cis,trans- and cis,cis-1,5-cyclooctadiene

The relative rates of formation of $\text{cis}$ and $\text{trans}$ [2+2]cycloadducts of benzyne to $\text{cis}$, $\text{trans}$- and $\text{cis}$, $\text{cis}$-1,5-cyclooctadiene, $\text{trans}$- and $\text{cis}$-cyclooctene are discussed and properties of the adducts (e.g., their unusual hydrogenation) are described.     

Empirical determination of medium effects on the equilibrium between transcis and transtrans 1,2-dibromo-4-t-butylcyclohexanes

Head space analysis, GLC retention time data, and solution calorimetry are used to determine the effect of medium on the thermodynamic parameters for the equilibrium (1) ? (2). It is shown that changes in ΔG° and ΔH° can be evaluated for the transfer of the equilibrium from a series of solvents to the gaseous phase which is used as the reference medium.     

Synthesis of cis- and trans-2,4-dibenzylidine-1,3-ditelluretan from sodium phenyl acetylide and tellurium metal; a reinvestigation and structure proof

Reaction of sodium phenyl acetylide with tellurium metal and subsequent protonation yields the title compounds, rather than a 1,3-ditellurole as recently reported.     

Synthesis of trans-(3S,4S)-dibenzyloxycyclopentanone

The 1-cyano-1-thiophenylcyclopentone derivative $\text{1}$, obtained from (R,R)-(+)-tartaric acid, has been converted into a number of derivatives including the important $\text{trans}$-(3S,4S)-dibenzyloxycyclopentanone $\text{2}$ in 45% overall yield.     

The synthesis of 3-vinylindoles and 11H-5-cyanobenzol[a]carbazole

The synthesis of 3-vinylindoles through Wadsworth Emmons reactions with 3-formyl and 3-acylindoles is described. Although 3-formylindoles react directly with phosphonate derivatives, 3-acylindoles need prior activation by N-sulphonation. 11$\text{H}$-5-Cyanobenzo[$\text{a}$]carbazole has been prepared by the oxidative cycloaddition of $\text{E}$-3-(indol-3′-yl) propenotrile and benzyne.     

Autorecycling oxidation of alcohol catalyzed by 1,3,7,9,11,12,14-heptazapentacene-2,4,8,10 (14H,3H,9H,12H)-tetraones (mixed flavins)

1,3,7,9,11,12,14-Heptazapentacene-2,4,8,10 (14$\text{H}$,3$\text{H}$,9$\text{H}$,12$\text{H}$)-tetraones (mixed flavins) were prepared by the cyclization of 1,5-dihydro-8-[N-alkyl-N-(5-nitrouracil-6-yl)-amino-5-deazaflavins with Vilsmeier reagent. The mixed flavins oxidized alcohol under neutral condition in sunlight and a remarkable autorecycling was observed.     

Synthesis of N-benzoyl L- and D-2,3,6-trideoxy-3-aminoxylo-hexose from non-carbohydrate precursors

The enantiomeric alcohols ($\text{2}$) and ($\text{11}$), obtained from (2$\text{R}$,3$\text{R}$) tartaric acid and, respectively, $\text{L}$-threonine, have been used to construct the C₆, enantiomeric deoxy amino sugar derivatives ($\text{7}$) and ($\text{12}$)

In strong base, e.g., sodium hydride in dimethylformamide, $\text{N}$-($\text{o}$-azidobenzoyl)arylamines cyclise in high yield to 2-aryl-1,2-dihydro-3$\text{H}$-indazolin-3-ones.     

Stereoselective synthesis of 1,8- and 1,5-diketo-trans-syn-trans-perhydroanthracenes

A stereOselective conversion of 1,8- and 1,5-diethoxy-9,10-anthraquinone to 1,8- and 1,5-diketo-$\text{trans}$-$\text{syn}$-$\text{trans}$-perhydroanthracenes by successive sodium borohydride, metal-ammonia, and catalytic reductions is described.     

Dichlorobis(organonitrile)palladium(II) catalysis of cis- to trans- isomerization of ethylchrysanthemate and chrysanthemic acid

Complexes of the type L₂PdCl₂ (L = CH₃,CN, CH₃CH₂CN, PhCN) in benzene or chloroform act as homogeneous catalysts in the room temperature $\text{cis}$ to $\text{trans}$ isomerization of ethylchrysanthemate and chrysanthemic acid.     

Stereospecific synthesis of Z- and E-1 alkoxy-1,3-butadienes

A stereospecific, highly efficient, generally applicable synthesis of $\text{Z}$- and $\text{E}$-1-alkoxy-1,3-butadienes involving dehydrative decarboxylations of 4,5-unsaturated-2-alkoxy-3-hydroxy-carboxylic acids is described.
