X-ray initiated molecular photochemistry for SiCl4 and CCl4 adsorbed on Si(1 0 0) at ∼90 K following Cl 2p core-level excitation is investigated by photon stimulated ion desorption and ion kinetic energy distribution measurements. The Cl excitation of solid SiCl4 induces the significant enhancement (∼900%) of the Cl+ yield, while the Cl excitation of condensed CCl4 leads to a moderate enhancement (∼500%) of the Cl+ yield. The enhancement of Cl+ yield at the specific core-excited states is strongly correlated to the ion escaped energy. Upon X-ray exposure for CCl4 adsorbed on Si(1 0 0) (20-L exposure), the Cl+ yields at resonances decrease and new structures at higher photon energies are observed. Cl+ yields at these new resonances are significantly enhanced compared to those at other resonances. These changes are the results of desorption and surface reaction of the CCl4-Si surface complex due to X-ray irradiation. We have demonstrated that state-specific enhancement of ion desorption can be successfully applied to characterize the reaction dynamics of adsorbates adsorbed on surfaces by X-ray irradiation.  相似文献

We report a low-temperature dynamics study of condensed layers of NF3 on Au(1 1 1) by time-of-flight electron-stimulated desorption ion angular distribution (TOF-ESDIAD), temperature-programmed desorption (TPD) and low-temperature scanning tunneling microscopy (LT-STM). Upon adsorption at 30 K, molecular NF3 adsorption occurs first at the step edges and at minor terrace defect sites with the formation of 2D islands. Within the islands, NF3 is adsorbed in an upright conformation via the nitrogen lone pair electrons projecting fluorine atoms away from the surface as judged by the presence of only a sharp F+ central beam in the ESDIAD pattern. At higher coverages, 3D islands start to populate the surface. Electron bombardment of a thick NF3 (∼6 ML) layer adsorbed on the Au(1 1 1) surface leads to emission of F+, N+, NF+, and ions as observed in the TOF-ESD distribution. Upon heating to ∼37 K, a sudden decrease of the and ion yield, which is not related to thermal desorption, is observed which reflects the surface migration of NF3 molecules, leading to local thinning of the film. The thinning process occurs at the temperature of onset of molecular rotations and self-diffusion in the bulk NF3 crystal. In this process, some NF3 molecules move closer to the surface which results in higher efficiency for ion neutralization by the underlying metal surface. In the TPD spectra, the monolayer desorption is observed to begin at ∼65 K, exhibiting zero-order kinetics with an activation energy of 21 kJ/mol.  相似文献

The adsorption of Cs on Pt(1 1 1) surfaces and its reactivity toward oxygen and iodine for coverages θCs?0.15 is reported. These surfaces show unusual “anomalous” behavior compared to higher coverage surfaces. Similar behavior of K on Pt(1 1 1) was previously suggested to involve incorporation of K into the Pt lattice. Despite the larger size of Cs, similar behavior is reported here. Anomalous adsorption is found for coverages lower than 0.15 ML, at which point there is a change in the slope of the work function. Thermal Desorption Spectroscopy (TDS) shows a high-temperature Cs peak at 1135 K, which involves desorption of Cs+ from the surface. The anomalous Cs surfaces and their coadsorption with oxygen and iodine are characterized by Auger Electron Spectroscopy (AES), TDS and Low Electron Energy Diffraction (LEED). Iodine adsorption to saturation on Pt(1 1 1)(anom)-Cs give rise to a sharp LEED pattern and a distinctive work function increase. Adsorbed iodine interacts strongly with the Cs and weakens the Cs-Pt bond, leading to desorption of CsxIy clusters at 560 K. Anomalous Cs increases the oxygen coverage over the coverage of 0.25 ML found on clean Pt. However, the Cs-Pt bond is not significantly affected by coadsorbed oxygen, and when oxygen is desorbed the anomalous cesium remains on the surface.  相似文献

The vibrational structure of the electronic state of C3 in the region 26 000-30 775 cm−1 has been re-examined, using laser excitation spectra of jet-cooled molecules. Rotational constants and vibrational energies have been determined for over 60 previously-unreported vibronic levels; a number of other levels have been re-assigned. The vibrational structure is complicated by interactions between levels of the upper and lower Born-Oppenheimer components of the state, and by the effects of the double minimum potential in the Q3 coordinate, recognized by Izuha and Yamanouchi [16]. The present work shows that there is also strong anharmonic resonance between the overtones of the ν1 and ν3 vibrations. For instance, the levels 2 1+ 1 and 0 1 + 3 are nearly degenerate in zero order, but as a result of the resonance they give rise to two levels 139 cm−1 apart, centered about the expected position of the 2 1+ 1 level. With these irregularities recognized, every observed vibrational level up to 30 000 cm−1 (a vibrational energy of over 5000 cm−1) can now be assigned. A vibronic level at 30181.4 cm−1, which has a much lower B′ rotational constant than nearby levels of the state, possibly represents the onset of vibronic perturbations by the electronic state; this state is so far unknown, but is predicted by the ab initio calculations of Ahmed et al. [36].  相似文献

Oxygen adsorption on Mo2C(0 0 0 1) has been investigated with angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES). When the surface is reacted with O2, the O 2p-induced states are formed at 4.1 and 5.3 eV at the point. The emissions around the Fermi level are also intensified by oxygen adsorption, which is due to the formation of a partially filled state. It is found that the reactivity of the surface toward H2O adsorption is much enhanced by pre-adsorption of oxygen. The reactivity is found to be maximized at θO ∼ 0.2.  相似文献

The high-resolution infrared spectra of DCF3 were reinvestigated in the ν6 fundamental band region near 500 cm−1 and around 1000 cm−1 with the aim to assign and analyze the overtone level of the asymmetric CF3 bending vibration v6 = 2.The present paper reports on the first study of both its sublevels (A1 and E corresponding to l = 0 and ±2, respectively) through the high-resolution analysis of the overtone band and the hot and bands. The well-known “loop method”, applied to and , yielded ground state energy differences Δ(KJ) = E0(KJ) − E0(K − 3,J) for the range of K = 6 to 30.In the final fitting of molecular parameters, we used the strategy of fitting all upper state data together with the ground state rotational transitions. This is equivalent to that calculating separately the and coefficients of the K-dependent part of the ground state energy terms from the combination loops. All rotational constants of the ground state up to sextic order could be refined in the calculation. This led to a very accurate determination of C0 = 0.18924413(25) cm−1, , and also .In the course of analyzing simultaneously the overtone band together with the and ν6 bands, the original assignment of the fundamental ν6 band [Bürger et al., J. Mol. Spectrosc. 182 (1997) 34-49] was found to be incompatible with the present one. Assignments of the (k + 1, l6 = +1)/(k − 1,l6 = −1) levels had to be interchanged, which changed the value of 6 = −0.14198768(26) cm−1 and the sign of the combination of constants C − B −  in the v6 = 1 level to a negative value.  相似文献

One-dimensional defect structures of closed-packed adlayers of iodine on Pt(1 0 0) were studied with scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). On the terraces of the Pt(1 0 0) surface we observed rotational domains with line defects running in [0 1 0] directions, in coexistence with nearly defect-free domains. In addition to these prevailing line defects (A-defects) with a local coverage lower than that of a defect-free surface, we report on much less frequently observed line defects with higher local coverages (B- and C-defects). The strong dependence of the concentration of these defects on the adsorption temperature is governed by the decrease of the overall iodine coverage with increasing temperature. Iodine adsorption at ∼1100 K leads to self-organization of A-defects in quasi-periodic arrangements. The relevance of these defects as important structural elements of commensurate superstructures of iodine on Pt(1 0 0) is stressed.  相似文献

We report ab initio study of the electron-phonon coupling in a free standing magnesium monolayer and at the Mg(0 0 0 1) surface. The calculations were carried out using a linear-response approach in the plane-wave pseudopotential representation. Eliashberg spectral function α2F(ω) averaged over electron states at the Fermi surface is presented for the monolayer while for the Mg(0 0 0 1) surface, we compute the electron-phonon spectral function α2Fk,i(ω) for surface states at the and points.  相似文献

Equilibrium adsorption positions and diffusion pathways of the ions K+ and Cl as well as of the molecule KCl on the terrace of the (0 0 1) surface of KCl were determined by shell model calculations allowing relaxations of the crystal lattice in the vicinity of the adsorbed species. For the ions each one adsorption position was found, in which the ions are located above the hollow site at the center of a slightly distorted square formed by two cations and two anions of the uppermost surface layer of the KCl crystal. Adsorption energies of −1.52 eV for K+ and −1.61 eV for Cl were calculated. Jumps of the ions occur from these positions to adjacent hollow positions in the ±[1 0 0] and ±[0 1 0] directions with a jump distance of a0/2. The activation energies for the jumps result as 0.142 for K+ and 0.152 eV for Cl and the mean diffusion lengths as and . For the KCl molecule four distinct adsorption minima with energies between −0.932 and −0.825 eV were found. Because of the smaller lattice relaxation caused by the molecule the adsorption energies are considerably lower than for the single ions. In the position with the largest adsorption energy the ions of the admolecule are again placed above adjacent hollow sites. In two more adsorption positions only one ion is at the hollow site and the other one in a top position above an oppositely charged ion of the surface. In the fourth position with the smallest adsorption energy both ions are in top positions. Jumps between the different adsorption positions proceed by rotations of the molecule, in which one of its ions remains essentially attached to a local minimum position. The diffusion and desorption of a KCl molecule was studied by a Monte Carlo method, resulting in a mean diffusion length xs (nm) = 0.39 exp[0.84 (eV)/2kT], which agrees rather well with an experimental value of . Values for the mean stay time as well as for the surface diffusion coefficient are derived.  相似文献

We report frequency measurements at the rovibronic transition P(42)1-14 (772 nm) and R(114)2-11 (735 nm) from the electronic transition of the iodine molecule 127I2 with the help of a frequency comb as a reference. By using Doppler-free saturation spectroscopy a frequency precision in the 7 × 10−10 region is reached and two iodine cells both operated at 550-600 °C are compared. To relate our results to other measurements, the absolute transition frequency of the hyperfine structure line P(148)1-14 a1 at 780 nm with an already known transition frequency was also determined.  相似文献

In this paper we introduce a new experimental approach to determine the potential dependence of the step line tension on metal electrodes in contact with an electrolyte: (0 0 1) and (1 1 n) surfaces of single crystal gold electrodes were investigated by impedance spectroscopy in solutions containing weakly adsorbing anions, such as , F and . Within the limits of error the shift in the potential of zero charge is proportional to the step density of the vicinal surfaces indicative of a well-defined dipole moment per step length. The dipole moments per step atom are 6.8 ± 0.8, 5.2 ± 0.4, 5.8 ± 0.5 × 10−3 eÅ for , , and F containing electrolytes, respectively. Using the values for the pzc and the potential dependence of the capacitance curves, the potential dependence of the surface tension of the vicinal surfaces is determined. The line tension of the steps is then calculated from the difference between the surface tension of the stepped and the step free surface. Our results represent the first experimental confirmation of a recent theoretical model proposing that in absence of specifically adsorbed ions the step line tension should decrease (roughly linear) with potential.  相似文献

We have studied desorption kinetics of deuterium molecules from a Si(1 0 0) surface by means of temperature-programmed desorption (TPD) spectra and isothermal desorptions.Three desorption components, denoted as β1,A,β1,B, and C, can be distinguished in semi-logarithmic plots of the TPD spectra.Their peak positions and intensities are strongly affected by the surface preparation methods employed, either with or without annealing to control the initial D coverage .Peak C appears at the leading edge of the TPD peak.It accounts for only about 5% of the TPD peak at and it diminishes rapidly with decreasing , vanishing at .In contrast, together the β1,A and β1,B peaks account for the whole TPD peak at any less than 1.0 ML. The maximum of the β1,A peak is nearly constant at around the maximum temperature of the TPD peak.On the other hand, the β1,B peak appears on the high-temperature side of the TPD peak and it systematically shifts to higher temperatures with decreasing .These results imply that first- and second-order kinetics are operating for the β1,A and β1,B desorptions, respectively.Isothermal desorption experiments confirm the above predicted kinetics for a limited region, namely .From the results for the rate curve analysis, the desorption barriers are evaluated to be 1.6 ± 0.1 eV and 1.8 ± 0.1 eV for the β1,A and β1,B desorptions, respectively. These values are substantially lower than the widely accepted value of ∼2.5 eV. To reproduce the measured TPD spectra we take the Arrhenius-type rate equation containing the first- and second-order rate terms for the β1,A and β1,B desorptions. The TPD spectra measured for can be reasonably fit with the proposed rate equation when the values given above for Ed,A and Ed,B are used. For , however, the TPD curves are not fit with the same values; rather, the best-fit curves require values for Ed,A and Ed,B larger than those given above. Combining the present kinetics results with those obtained by STM along with the studies, the β1,A and β1,B peaks may be attributed to desorption along the 2H path, while peak C may be attributed to desorption along the 4H path. The atomistic desorption mechanism as well as the energy relationship between the desorption barrier and isosteric heat of adsorption are discussed.  相似文献

The far-infrared emission spectra of deuterated water vapour were measured at different temperatures (1370, 1520, and 1950 K) in the range 320-860 cm−1 at a resolution of 0.0055 cm−1. The measurements were performed in an alumina cell with an effective length of hot gas of about 50 cm. More than 1150 new measured lines for the D216O molecule corresponding to transitions between highly excited rotational levels of the (0 0 0) and (0 1 0) vibrational states are reported. These new lines correspond to rotational states with higher values of the rotational quantum numbers compared to previously published determinations: Jmax=26 and for the (0 0 0) ← (0 0 0) band, Jmax=25 and for the (0 1 0) ← (0 1 0) band, and Jmax=26 and for the (0 1 0) ← (0 0 0) band. The estimated accuracy of the measured line positions is 0.0005 cm−1. To our knowledge no experimentally measured rotational transitions for D216O within an excited vibrational state have been available in the literature so far. An extended set of experimental rotational energy levels for (0 0 0) and (0 1 0) vibration states including all previously available data has been determined. For the data reduction we used the generating function model. The root mean square (RMS) deviation between observed and calculated values is 0.0012 cm−1 for 692 rotational levels of the (0 0 0) state and 0.0010 cm−1 for 639 rotational levels of the (0 1 0) vibrational state. A comparison of the observed energy levels with the best available values from the literature and with the global predictions from molecular electronic potential energy surface [J. Chem. Phys. 106 (1997) 4618] for the (0 0 0) and (0 1 0) states is discussed.  相似文献

We studied processes of cleaning GaN(0 0 0 1) surfaces on four different types of wafers: two types were hydride vapor phase epitaxy (HVPE) free-standing substrates and two types were metal-organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) films grown on these HVPE substrates and prepared by annealing and/or Ar ion sputtering in ultra high vacuum. We observed the surfaces through treatments using in situ low-energy electron diffraction (LEED), reflection high-energy electron diffraction (RHEED), scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), and Auger electron spectroscopy, and also using ex situ temperature programmed desorption, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and secondary ion mass spectrometry. For HVPE samples, we obtained relatively clean surfaces under optimized three-step annealing conditions (200 °C for 12 h + 400 °C for 1 h + 500 °C for 5 min) without sputtering, after which the surface contamination of oxide and carbide was reduced to ∼20% of that before annealing. Clear GaN(0 0 0 1)1×1 patterns were obtained by LEED and RHEED. STM images showed flat terraces of ∼10 nm size and steps of ∼0.5 nm height. Upon annealing the HVPE-GaN samples at a much higher temperature (C), three-dimensional (3D) islands with facets were formed and the surface stoichiometry was broken down with the desorption of nitrogen in the form of ammonia, since the samples include hydrogen as an impurity. Ar+ sputtering was effective for removing surface contamination, however, postannealing could not recover the surface roughness but promoted the formation of 3D islands on the surface. For MOCVD/HVPE homoepitaxial samples, the surfaces are terminated by hydrogen and the as-introduced samples showed a clear 1×1 structure. Upon annealing at 500-600 °C, the surface hydrogen was removed and a 3×3 reconstruction structure partially appeared, although a 1×1 structure was dominant. We summarize the structure differences among the samples under the same treatment and clarify the effect of crystal quality, such as dislocations, the concentration of hydrogen impurities, and the residual reactant molecules in GaN films, on the surface structure.  相似文献

The oxidation of aniline at Cu(1 1 0) surfaces at 290 K has been studied by XPS and STM. A single chemisorbed product, assigned to a phenyl imide (C6H5N(a)), is formed together with water which desorbs. Reaction with preadsorbed oxygen results in a maximum surface concentration of phenyl imide of 2.8 × 1014 mol cm−2 and a surface dominated by domains of three structures described by , and unit meshes. However, concentrations of phenyl imide of up to 3.3 × 1014 mol cm−2 were obtained from the coadsorption of aniline and dioxygen (300:1 mixture) resulting in a highly ordered biphasic structure with and domains. Comparison of the STM and XPS data shows that only half the phenyl imides at the surface are imaged. Pi-stacking of the phenyl rings is proposed to account for this observation.  相似文献

The structure of Pd films on Cu(1 1 1) and the alloying between the films and the substrate have been investigated by medium energy ion scattering (MEIS) using 100 keV H+ ions. Data are presented for the and alignments (nominal one- and three-layer alignments, respectively). It is found that beyond 1 ML the Pd grows in a twinned fcc structure, the incommensurate nature of which increases the visibility of the Cu(1 1 1) substrate to MEIS. Deposition of 0.2 ML of Pd produces a structure in which Pd mostly occupies the top two layers which have interlayer distances d12 = 208 ± 4 pm and d23 = 211 ± 4 pm. Some twinning is also present in this structure. Upon annealing 1.6 ML of Pd to 600 K for 1 min, the copper and palladium interdiffuse leaving around 0.4 ML of visible palladium. Energy plots show that there are several layers with an altered structure present over at least part of the surface. This may be due to large scale interdiffusion or alloy island formation. Incremental annealing to successively higher temperatures shows that the structural transformation begins around 500 K.  相似文献

We present a constructive derivation of a worldline path integral for the effective action and the propagator of a Dirac field in 2 + 1 dimensions, in terms of spacetime and SU(2) paths. After studying some general properties of this representation, we show that the auxiliary gauge-group variable can be integrated, deriving a worldline action depending only on x(τ), the spacetime paths. We then show that the functional integral automatically imposes the constraint , while there is a spin action, which agrees with the one one should expect for a spin- field.  相似文献

Using first-principles total-energy calculations, we have investigated the adsorption and diffusion of Si and Ge adatoms on Ge/Si(0 0 1)-(2 × 8) and Ge/Si(1 0 5)-(1 × 2) surfaces. The dimer vacancy lines on Ge/Si(0 0 1)-(2 × 8) and the alternate SA and rebonded SB steps on Ge/Si(1 0 5)-(1 × 2) are found to strongly influence the adatom kinetics. On Ge/Si(0 0 1)-(2 × 8) surface, the fast diffusion path is found to be along the dimer vacancy line (DVL), reversing the diffusion anisotropy on Si(0 0 1). Also, there exists a repulsion between the adatom and the DVL, which is expected to increase the adatom density and hence island nucleation rate in between the DVLs. On Ge/Si(1 0 5)-(1 × 2) surface, the overall diffusion barrier of Si(Ge) along direction is relative fast with a barrier of ∼0.83(0.61) eV, despite of the large surface undulation. This indicates that the adatoms can rapidly diffuse up and down the (1 0 5)-faceted Ge hut island. The diffusion is also almost isotropic along [0 1 0] and directions.  相似文献

Using the interaction parameters up to the third neighbors and activated form of O and CO diffusion and their reaction, the model has been proposed for Monte-Carlo simulations describing the catalytic O + CO → CO2 reaction and occurring phase transitions on Pd(1 1 1) surface. Upon adsorption of CO the pre-adsorbed oxygen transforms from p(2 × 2)O phase into and phases in the limit of room and moderate temperatures, respectively. We demonstrate that the kinetic effects determine both the occurrence of the p(2 × 1)O and disappearance of the phases at moderate and low temperatures, respectively. Using reaction rate as a fit parameter, we show that at room temperature the start of the reaction can be synchronized with the occurrence of phase.  相似文献
