Co/Pd epitaxial multilayer films were prepared on Pd(111)fcc underlayers hetero-epitaxially grown on MgO(111)B1 single-crystal substrates at room temperature by ultra-high vacuum RF magnetron sputtering. In-situ reflection high energy electron diffraction shows that the in-plane lattice spacing of Co on Pd layer gradually decreases with increasing the Co layer thickness, whereas that of Pd on Co layer remains unchanged during the Pd layer formation. The CoPd alloy phase formation is observed around the Co/Pd interface. The atomic mixing is enhanced for thinner Co and Pd layers in multilayer structure. With decreasing the Co and the Pd layer thicknesses and increasing the repetition number of Co/Pd multilayer film, stronger perpendicular magnetic anisotropy is observed. The relationships between the film structure and the magnetic properties are discussed.  相似文献

Using first-principles calculation, we have studied the properties of a series of M x Co1?x /Co(0001) (M = Pd, Pt) bimetallic surface alloys with atom M ratios from 0.25 to 1.0, then the effect of alloyed M metal on the properties of S adsorbed on these surfaces are discussed. Our calculations show that the alloying of metal Pd, Pt on Co(0001) weakens the S-M (M = Pd, Pt, Co) bond strength compared to monometallic surfaces and the site preference of sulfur atom is dependent on the alloyed metal M and its surface concentration. Moreover, bimetallic surface electronic structure modifications with and without sulfur are analyzed in comparison with clean Co(0001), and the correlation between the sulfur adsorption energy and the bimetallic surface d-band center is presented.  相似文献

Superlattices of [001]fcc Co/Pd with varying Co thicknesses from one to eight atomic layers per modulation period were epitaxially grown on NaCl by vapour deposition in UHV. Transmission electron diffraction indicates lattice coherence between the Co and the Pd layers for Co thicknesses up to six atomic layers. If deposited at a substrate temperatureT s=50°C, only the superlattices containing Ci-monolayers show perpendicular magnetization. By raisingT s to 200°C, the perpendicular anisotropy for Co monolayers is increased, and is also observed for Co bilayers. We suggest that this is due tolayer smoothening, which increases Néel's interface anisotropy. For more than 6 atomic layers of Co a loss of coherence is observed atT s=50°C, accompanied by a structure transformation to hcp Co with a (0001)Co(111)Pd orientation.Non-epitaxial polycrystalline [111]-multilayers have a different anisotropy versus thickness behaviour. For such multilayers the range of Co thicknesses giving perpendicular magnetization is extended from 8 Å up to 12 Å atT s=200°C. The different behaviour of the single crystal [001] films is caused by a strong volume contribution to the anisotropy, which favours in-plane magnetization, opposing the perpendicular interface anisotropy. This easy-plane term is attributed to magneto-elastic anisotropy due to stretching of the Co layers, via a positive magnetostriction.  相似文献

Pd nanocluster seeds were formed on a soft magnetic underlayer (SUL) using an electrochemical substitution reaction, and were utilized as an intermediate layer for a Co/Pd multilayered ([Co/Pd]n) perpendicular magnetic recording medium. A CoNiFeB film prepared with electroless deposition was used as SUL, which was immersed into a PdCl2 solution for the formation of Pd seeds. The Pd seeds were found to effectively reduce the size of magnetic domains in the [Co/Pd]n film deposited on them. The optimization of the concentration of the PdCl2 solution and the use of the pretreatment process with a SnCl2 solution were effective to obtain the smooth SUL surface with fine Pd seeds as small as 5 nm. The 20 nm-thick [Co/Pd]n film deposited on the optimized Pd seeds/CoNiFeB SUL exhibited a high coercivity of 7.8 kOe and a small magnetic domain size of 69 nm. These results indicated that the combination of the Pd seeds and the electroless-deposited SUL was desirable in terms of the improvement not only in the magnetic properties of [Co/Pd]n media but also in the mass productivity of the underlayer.  相似文献

Effects of the introduction of a Pd/Si dual seedlayer on the microcrystalline structure and magnetic properties of [Co/Pd]n multilayered perpendicular magnetic recording media were investigated. The Pd/Si dual seedlayer was composed of a Pd upper seedlayer and a Si under seedlayer. The Pd upper seedlayer with a thickness of up to 10 nm markedly increased the coercivity of [Co/Pd]n multilayered media in the direction perpendicular to the film surface. The highest coercivity of 7.8 kOe was obtained for the [Co/Pd]10 medium with a Pd (10 nm)/Si (100 nm) dual seedlayer. The Pd upper seedlayer not only facilitated the formation of regular interfaces between the Co and Pd layers, but also reduced the thickness of the deteriorated initial layer in the [Co/Pd]n multilayer, resulting in enhancement of the magnetic anisotropy field. The [Co/Pd]n multilayered medium with the Pd/Si dual seedlayer exhibited weak intergranular exchange coupling between [Co/Pd]n grains, which led to excellent read–write characteristics.  相似文献

The development of devices based on magnetic tunnel junctions has raised new interests on the structural and magnetic properties of the interface Co/MgO. In this context, we have grown ultrathin Co films (≤30 Å) by molecular-beam epitaxy on MgO(0 0 1) substrates kept at different temperatures (TS). Their structural and magnetic properties were correlated and discussed in the context of distinct magnetic anisotropies for Co phases reported in the literature. The sample characterization has been done by reflection high energy electron diffraction, magneto-optical Kerr effect and ferromagnetic resonance. The main focus of the work is on a sample deposited at TS=25 °C, as its particular way of growth has enabled a bct Co structure to settle on the substrate, where it is not normally obtained without specific seed layers. This sample presented the best crystallinity, softer magnetic properties and a four-fold in-plane magnetic anisotropy with Co〈1 1 0〉 easy directions. Concerning the samples prepared at TS=200 and 500° C, they show fcc and polycrystalline structures, respectively and more intricate magnetic anisotropy patterns.  相似文献

We measured geometric and magnetic properties of Co films on the Pd(1 1 1) surface by X-ray photoelectron diffraction (XPD), X-ray magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) at the Co L2,3 edge, and the surface magneto-optical Kerr effect (SMOKE) measurements. Co thin films are found to grow incoherently with fcc island structure on the smooth Pd(1 1 1) substrate. Comparison of MCD and SMOKE measurements of Co thin films grown on rough and smooth Pd(1 1 1) surfaces suggests that perpendicular remnant magnetization and Co orbital moment are enhanced by the rough interface. Pd capping layer also induces perpendicular orbital moment enhancement. These observations indicate the influence of hybridization between Co 3d and Pd 4d at the interface on the magnetic anisotropy.  相似文献

We show a possibility to determine the parameters characterizing surface magnetic anisotropy of platelet BaFe12O19 nanocrystals with thickness comparable to the magnetoperturbed surface layer of high-anisotropic hexagonal crystal. Taking into account the above-mentioned specific character of the particles, we introduce the constant KS as the surface anisotropy energy per unit volume of near-surface layer. Temperature dependence of the surface anisotropy field as one of the components of effective anisotropy was corrected taking into account the thermal fluctuations. Discovered anomaly initiated calculation of the surface anisotropy constant with different approaches for two different temperature ranges. Analyzing the KS sign changes with temperature, we conclude about the transformation of surface anisotropy from plane to axis type.  相似文献

Magnetic and structural properties in [MnPd/Co]10 multilayers deposited onto Si(1 1 1) substrates have been investigated. The dependences of anisotropy and exchange bias on the thicknesses of both MnPd and Co layers have been studied. In most of the samples, the out-of-plane magnetic anisotropy and both large out-of-plane and in-plane exchange biases have been observed at cryogenic temperature below the blocking temperature TB≈240 K. With appropriate MnPd and Co thicknesses, we have obtained samples with a large out-of-plane exchange bias along with a large out-of-plane magnetic anisotropy. The origin of the out-of-plane magnetic anisotropy in the samples has been suggested to be due to the formation of CoPd interfacial alloys which have tensile in-plane strains, while the spin structure of the antiferromagnetic layer at the interface which is believed to be responsible for exchange bias may be the same as that of the bulk material. Also, the present study shows that the interplay between the out-of-plane magnetic anisotropy and exchange bias is evident in our multilayers and plays an important role in the out-of-plane exchange-bias mechanism.  相似文献

We deposit Fe50PdxPt50−x alloy thin films by magnetron sputtering onto a TiN seed layer. Chemically ordered L10 films are obtained which display large perpendicular magnetic anisotropy. We find that the surface roughness of the film depends strongly on the growth and anneal conditions as well as the Pd composition of the film. Smooth films are obtained by deposition above the chemical ordering temperature and by removing Pd from the alloy.  相似文献

Direct comparative studies are made between the magnetic structures of a surface layer of thickness ~40 nm and the bulk magnetic structure of ferromagnetic single crystals of hexagonal M ferrites (BaFe12O19, SrFe12O19, PbFe12O19) with a magneto-plumbite structure. Measurements are made by simultaneous gamma, x-ray, and electron Mössbauer spectroscopy in order to investigate the properties of the surface layer and the bulk crystal simultaneously. Experimental data obtained with a depth resolution of ~ 10 nm show that the orientation of the magnetic moments of the iron ions (along the crystallographic c axis) does not change on approaching the surface from the crystal volume. Thus, to within an experimental error of ~ 10 nm, single crystals of the hexagonal ferrites BaFe12O19, SrFe12O19, and PbFe12O19 with a ferromagnetic structure do not have a “ transition” surface layer whose magnetic structure differs from that of the bulk crystal such as that which exists, with a depth of several hundred nm, in antiferromagnetic materials with weak ferromagnetism.  相似文献

The work addresses the correlation between the phase composition and the magnetic characteristics of aligned Fe-filled multi-walled carbon nanotubes (Fe-MWCNTs) grown by pyrolysis of ferrocene on oxidized Si substrates. In a combinatorial approach we exploited the extremely high gradients of the technological parameters temperature and ferrocene flow across the surface of a substrate positioned close to the reactor wall to obtain a large variation in the structural and magnetic properties of the Fe-MWCNTs. In this way, we established several clear correlations between the Fe-filling phase composition and the overall magnetic characteristics of the aligned Fe-MWCNTs. The α-Fe rich samples, which possess a more ordered graphitic sheet structure, a higher degree of preferred crystalline orientation of the metal filling and much larger metal crystallites in comparison with the carbide-rich samples, show a much stronger magnetic anisotropy with easy axis perpendicular to the substrate and unusually high values of the coercive field Hc and the saturation field Hs. The changes in the measured saturation magnetisation Ms and the Hc values correlate well with the variation of the α-Fe content and the filling crystallinity. A special annealing treatment of the samples causes a distinct increase of the α-Fe quantity and an increase of the measured average grain size. The respective magnetic characteristics show a significant increase of the overall magnetic moment and decrease of the coercive field. The correlation between the structural and the magnetic characteristics of the annealed samples matches quite well the respective correlations in the case of as-deposited samples.  相似文献

This work develops a new method for growing L10 FePt(0 0 1) thin film on a Pt/Cr bilayer using an amorphous glass substrate. Semi-coherent epitaxial growth was initiated from the Cr(0 0 2) underlayer, continued through the Pt(0 0 1) buffer layer, and extended into the L10 FePt(0 0 1) magnetic layer. The squareness of the L10 FePt film in the presence of both a Cr underlayer and a Pt buffer layer was close to unity as the magnetic field was applied perpendicular to the film plane. The single L10 FePt(1 1 1) orientation was observed in the absence of a Cr underlayer. When a Cr underlayer is inserted, the preferred orientation switched from L10 FePt(1 1 1) to L10 FePt(0 0 1) and the magnetic film exhibited perpendicular magnetic anisotropy. However, in the absence of an Pt intermediate layer, the Cr atoms diffused directly into the FePt magnetic layer and prevented the formation of the L10 FePt(0 0 1) preferred orientation. When a Pt buffer layer was introduced between the FePt and Cr underlayer, the L10 FePt(0 0 1) peak appeared. The thickness of the Pt buffer layer also substantially affected the magnetic properties and atomic arrangement at the FePt/Pt and Pt/Cr interfaces.  相似文献

A new seed layer TiW is proposed for SmCo5 films with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy. The influence of a TiW seed layer on the microstructure and the surface morphology of Cu underlayer are studied. The grain size and surface roughness dependence of Cu underlayer on the thickness and the annealing of the TiW seed layer are also investigated. The improvement in the perpendicular magnetic properties of SmCo5 film from the TiW seed layer is approved. The results show that a 5 nm Ti3W7 seed layer improves the microstructure and surface morphology of Cu underlayer, and significantly improves the perpendicular magnetic properties of SmCo5 film. The diffusion barrier and a high melting point of the TiW seed layer are regarded as the physical mechanism of the improvement for SmCo5 film with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy.  相似文献

Soft magnetic thin films of Ni, NiFe and NiFe2O4 were prepared using reactive magnetron sputtering in various deposition conditions. Experimentally observed soft magnetic property was compared and correlated with nanocrystalline structure evolution. Ni and NiFe deposited films are textured with fcc(111) phase preferred orientation. Accordingly, grain size and lattice parameter were calculated from X-ray diffraction (111) peak line width and 2θ peak position. Addition of reactive gas oxygen in deposition process has substantial effect on crystalline structure of film. There is phase transition from the ordered NiFe (111) structure to the NiFe2O4 nanocrystalline phase. The resulting film has shown small X-ray diffraction intensity peak corresponding to (311) and (400) orientation, indicating small amount of existing NiFe2O4 phase. The mechanism has been discussed to be responsible for nanocrystallization and amorphization of NiFe2O4 films. Magnetic measurement (M-H) loop reveal soft magnetic nature of films with magnetic anisotropy. The coercivity (Hc) of films is in accordance with random anisotropy model, where Hc reduced with grain size. The structural transformation was supported by Fourier transforms infrared spectroscopy measurement. The films are highly smooth with surface roughness in the range of ∼0.53-0.93 nm. NiFe2O4 films have shown lowest surface roughness with highest electrical resistivity values. The structural, surface, magnetic and infrared spectroscopy results are observed and analyzed.  相似文献

High saturation magnetization soft magnetic FeCo (=Fe65Co35) films were prepared using a thin Co underlayer. The FeCo/Co films exhibited a well-defined in-plane uniaxial anisotropy with easy axis coercivity (Hce) of 10 Oe and hard axis coercivity (Hch) of 3 Oe, and a half reduction of Hc with Hce=4.8 Oe and Hch=1.0 Oe was obtained when the composition was adjusted to 25 at% Co. The effective permeability of the films remains flat around 250 to 800 MHz. The saturation magnetostriction was 5.2×10−5 and the intrinsic stress was 0.8 GPa in FeCo single layer, both were slightly reduced by Co underlayer. The Co underlayer changed the preferred orientation of the FeCo films from (2 0 0) to (1 1 0) but more significantly, reduced the average grain size from ∼74 to ∼8.2 nm. It also reduced the surface roughness from 2.351 to 0.751 nm. The initial stage and interface diffusion properties were examined by TEM and XPS.  相似文献

We studied the structure and magnetic properties of porous multilayered Co/Pd films deposited on the templates of anodized Al2O3 with a specific surface morphology that is characterized by a cellular–porous structure with several pores inside each cell. X-ray diffraction analysis and reflectometry are used to study the peculiarities of the formation of phases in deposited films. The effect of morphological features of porous Co/Pd films on their magnetoanisotropic properties and magnetization reversal processes (magnetization reversal mechanisms, domain structure of films, and coercive field H c ) is revealed by SQUID magnetometry and magnetic force microscopy.  相似文献

The value of the effective magnetic anisotropy constant of the ferrimagnetic nanoparticles Zn0.15Ni0.85Fe2O4 embedded in a SiO2 silica matrix, determined through ferromagnetic resonance (FMR), is much higher than the magnetocrystalline anisotropy constant. The higher value of the anisotropy constant is due to the existence of surface anisotropy. However, even if the magnetic anisotropy is high, the ferrimagnetic nanoparticles with a 15% concentration, which are isolated in a SiO2 matrix, display a superparamagnetic (SPM) behavior at room temperature and at a frequency of the magnetization field equal to 50 Hz. The FMR spectrum of the novel nanocomposite (Zn0.15Ni0.85Fe2O4)0.15/(SiO2)0.85, recorded at room temperature and a frequency of 9.060 GHz, is observed at a resonance field (B0r) of 0.2285 T, which is substantially lower than the field corresponding to free electron resonance (ESR) (0.3236 T). Apart from the line corresponding to the resonance of the nanoparticle system, the spectrum also contains an additional weaker line, identified for a resonance field of ∼0.12 T, which is appreciably lower than B0r. This line was attributed to magnetic ions complex that is in a disordered structure in the layer that has an average thickness of 1.4 nm, this layer being situated on the surface of the Zn0.15Ni0.85Fe2O4 nanoparticles that have a mean magnetic diameter of 8.9 nm.  相似文献

The CoFe2O4 and Co0.8Fe2.2O4 single layer (CFO) as well as PZT/CoFe2O4 and PZT/Co0.8Fe2.2O4 bilayer thin films were grown using the pulsed laser deposition technique on Pt(111)/Si substrates at 600 °C. All films had a perfect (111)-orientation and the degree of orientation of CFO films was improved by the deposition of a PZT top layer. Precision X-ray diffraction analysis (avoiding the shift of peaks due to sample misalignment) revealed that the CFO films on Pt(111)/Si substrate were under an out-of-plane contraction and the deposition of a PZT top layer led to the increase in the out-of-plane contraction. The (111)-oriented CFO single layer films had a strong in-plane magnetic anisotropy as a result of orientation as well as the stress-induced magnetic anisotropy. The magnetic properties of CFO film were altered by the deposition of a PZT top layer leading to the enhancement of in-plane magnetic anisotropy. The enhanced in-plane magnetic anisotropy was more detectable in PZT/Co0.8Fe2.2O4 rather than PZT/CoFe2O4 bilayer film, which could be expected from its higher magnetocrystalline as well as magnetostriction constants.  相似文献

Highly a-axis-textured CrO2 films have been deposited on Al2O3 (0001) substrates by chemical vapor deposition. CrO2 has been found to have highly a-axis (010)-oriented columnar growth on a Cr2O3 (0001) initial layer. The six-fold surface symmetry of the Cr2O3 initial layer leads to three equivalent in-plane orientations of the a-axis-oriented CrO2 unit cell. We report Cr L2,3 X-ray magnetic circular dichroism data along the surface normal and at 60° off-normal sample orientation. For a 60° sample alignment, a strong increase of the projected orbital moment could be observed for unoccupied majority t2g states using moment analysis. Therefore, the c axis is identified as the intrinsic magnetic easy axis of CrO2. In addition, a small spin moment and a very strong magnetic dipole term Tz have been found.
