Behavior of N atoms in atomic-order nitrided Si0.5Ge0.5(1 0 0) by heat treatment in Ar at 600 °C was investigated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). For thermal nitridation by NH3 at 400 °C, nitridation of surface Si atoms tends to proceed preferentially over nitridation of surface Ge atoms. It is also clear that, with the heat treatment, nitridation of Si atoms proceeds by transfer of N atoms from Ge atoms. Angle-resolved XPS results show that Ge fraction beneath the surface nitrided layer increases significantly at 600 °C compared to the initial surface. These results indicate that preferential nitridation of Si atoms at surface over Ge atoms induces Ge segregation beneath the surface nitrided layer at higher temperatures above 400 °C.  相似文献

Poly (3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) was thermally evaporated and deposited in vacuum. Infrared spectroscopy was used to confirm that the thin films were indeed P3HT, and showed that in-situ thermal evaporation provides a viable route for contaminant-free surface/interface analysis of P3HT in an ultrahigh-vacuum (UHV) environment. Ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy (UPS) as well as X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) experiments were carried out to examine the frontier orbitals and core energy levels of P3HT thin films vapor deposited in UHV on clean polycrystalline silver (Ag) surfaces. UPS spectra enable the determination of the vacuum shift at the polymer/metal interface, the valence band maximum (VBM), and the energy of the π-band of the overlayer film. The P3HT vacuum level decreased in contrast to that of the underlying Ag as the film thickness increased. XPS and UPS data confirmed the chemical integrity (stoichiometry) of the polymer at high coverage, as well as the shift of the C 1s and S 2p binding energy peaks and the secondary-electron edge with increasing film thickness, indicating that band bending is present at the P3HT/Ag interface and that the measured onset of the valence band is about 0.8 ± 0.05 eV relative to the Fermi level.  相似文献

The X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) study on as deposited as well as 500 °C annealed Co (400 Å)/Si thin film synthesized by electron beam evaporation technique under UHV conditions is reported here. The XPS measurements carried out on as deposited sample rule out the possibility of any phase formation at room temperature. Whereas in 500 °C annealed sample the Co-2p3/2 peak is observed at ∼778.6 eV binding energy position, where the peak expected due to CoSi2 resides. The Auger parameters were also calculated at each step of experiment because Auger parameter is always very sensitive to changes in the chemical state of the material. The recorded spectrum on annealed sample shows Auger parameter value of ∼1551.4 eV, which is different from that observed in the as deposited sample (∼1552.1 eV). The obtained results are analyzed and interpreted in terms of CoSi2 phase formation at the interface with annealing.  相似文献

The formation, stability and CO adsorption properties of PdAg/Pd(1 1 1) surface alloys were investigated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and by adsorption of CO probe molecules, which was characterized by temperature-programmed desorption (TPD) and high resolution electron energy loss spectroscopy (HREELS). The PdAg/Pd(1 1 1) surface alloys were prepared by annealing (partly) Ag film covered Pd(1 1 1) surfaces, where the Ag films were deposited at room temperature. Surface alloy formation leads to a modification of the electronic properties, evidenced by core-level shifts (CLSs) of both the Pd(3d) and Ag(3d) signal, with the extent of the CLSs depending on both initial Ag coverage and annealing temperature. The role of Ag pre-coverage and annealing temperature on surface alloy formation is elucidated. For a monolayer Ag covered Pd(1 1 1) surface, surface alloy formation starts at ∼450 K, and the resulting surface alloy is stable upon annealing at temperatures between 600 and 800 K. CO TPD and HREELS measurements demonstrate that at 120 K CO is exclusively adsorbed on Pd surface atoms/Pd sites of the bimetallic surfaces, and that the CO adsorption behavior is dominated by geometric ensemble effects, with adsorption on threefold hollow Pd3 sites being more stable than on Pd2 bridge sites and finally Pd1 a-top sites.  相似文献

Vapour deposition of Ce onto a Rh(1 1 0) single crystal at room temperature is studied by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy (UPS) and low energy electron diffraction (LEED). The thicknesses of the deposited Ce layers are estimated to be between 2 and 9 Å. To study the changes in the Ce-Rh surface layer, the samples are annealed at temperatures between 500 and 1000 °C after Ce deposition. After heating, a c(2 × 2) LEED pattern appears for the sample with the thinnest deposited Ce layer (2.4 Å). For samples with thicker Ce-films, the LEED pattern co-exists of a c(2 × 2) structure and a more diffuse 6% contracted (2 × 1) structure. This appears at the same temperature as the Ce 3d and Rh 3d core levels exhibit sharp intensity changes and binding energy shifts. The intensity of the f0, f1 and f2 multiplets in the Ce 3d core level spectra change when the annealing temperature is increased. The relative intensity of the Ce 3d f0 and f2 features compared to the Ce 3d f1 features is largest after annealing to 500 °C. This is below the temperature at which the ordered surface alloy is formed. When the sample is heated above the formation temperature of the surface alloy, the relative intensity of the Ce 3d f0 and f2 features decrease.  相似文献

Ultra-thin palladium films deposited on the Ni(1 1 1) surface were characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), low-energy electron diffraction (LEED) and X-ray photoelectron diffraction (XPD). For low coverage, LEED shows a (1 × 1) pattern similar to that of the substrate. For intermediate coverage, the LEED pattern displays extra spots around the main (1 × 1) spots, resembling a Moiré coincidence pattern, probably associated with the formation of Pd bi-dimensional islands oriented in different directions on the Ni(1 1 1) surface. The results obtained by XPS and XPD corroborate this finding. The LEED pattern displays this structure up to 500 °C. Annealing at 650 °C brings back the (1 × 1) pattern, which is associated with a Pd island coalescence and alloy formation by Pd diffusion in the first atomic layers of the Ni(1 1 1). In this paper we present a detailed study of this surface structure via a comparison between XPD experiment and theory.  相似文献

We have studied formation of Au-Ag alloy nanoparticles in sputtered SiO2 thin films. Silica thin films containing Au-Ag nanoparticles were deposited on quartz substrates using rf reactive magnetron co-sputtering technique. The films heat-treated in reducing Ar + H2 atmosphere at different temperatures. They were analyzed by using UV-vis spectrophotometry, atomic force microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) methods for their optical, surface morphological as well as structural and chemical properties. The optical absorption of the Au-Ag alloy nanoparticles illustrated one plasmon resonance absorption peak located at 450 nm between the absorption bands of pure Au and Ag nanoparticles at 400 and 520 nm, respectively, for the thin films annealed at 800 °C. XPS results showed that the alloys were in metallic state, and they had a greater tendency to lose electrons as compared to their corresponding monometallic state. Using lateral force microscopy analysis, we have found that the alloy particles were uniformly distributed on the surface with grain size of about 20 nm.  相似文献

ZnO:Ag films were grown on Si (1 0 0) substrates by ultrasonic spray pyrolysis at various substrate temperatures. The effect of deposition temperature on the structural and the room temperature photoluminescence (RT-PL) properties of ZnO:Ag films was studied. With the deposition temperature rising to 550 °C, the intensity of the near-band edge (NBE) emission at 378 nm decreased and a new emission peak at 399 nm was observed. On the basis of the X-ray diffraction pattern (XRD), the X-ray photoelectron (XPS) spectra of ZnO:Ag films, and the effects of annealing on the PL, we suggest that the 399 nm emission should be attributed to the electron transition from the conduction band to AgZn-related complexes defects radiative centers above the valence band.  相似文献

Hydrogen permeation measurements of 1.5-10 μm thick Pd/Ag23 wt% membranes before and after thermal treatments at 300 °C in air (both sides) or in the temperature range 300-450 °C in N2 (feed side) and Ar (permeate side) were performed. Accompanying changes in surface topography and chemical composition were subsequently investigated by atomic force microscopy (AFM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and Auger electron spectroscopy (AES) depth profiling. For a 2 μm thick membrane, the surface roughness increased for all annealing temperatures applied, while a temperature of 450 °C was required for an increase in roughness of both membrane surfaces to occur for the 5 μm membrane. The thickest membrane, of 10 μm, showed changed surface roughness on one side of the membrane only and a slight decrease in hydrogen permeance after all heat treatments in N2/Ar. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy investigations performed after treatment and subsequent permeation measurements revealed segregation of silver to the membrane surfaces for all annealing temperatures applied. In comparison, heat treatment at 300 °C in air resulted in significantly increased hydrogen permeance accompanied by increasing surface roughness. Upon exposure to oxygen, Pd segregates to the surface to form a 2-3 nm thick oxide layer (PdO), with more complex segregation behavior after subsequent reduction and permeance measurements in pure hydrogen. The available permeance data for the Pd/Ag23 wt% membranes after heat treatment in air at 300 °C is found to depend linearly on the inverse membrane thickness, implying bulk limited hydrogen permeation for thicknesses down to 1.5-2.0 μm.  相似文献

Geometric and electronic structures of Sm adlayers on Cu(1 0 0) and (1 1 0) were studied by scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The present results, in addition to the previous results for Sm/Cu(1 1 1) [Y. Nakayama, H. Kondoh, T. Ohta, Surf. Sci. 552 (2004) 53], indicate that the valence state of Sm adsorbed on Cu surfaces is determined by Sm-Sm and Sm-Cu coordination numbers. We propose that the valence state of the adsorbed Sm atoms can be explained by a simple thermodynamic equation including the coordination numbers.  相似文献

In this work, porous titania was prepared on bulk Ti by chemical oxidation, and then nanostructured silver (Ag) was deposited on titania surface by ion beam sputtering. After annealing treatment, Ag/TiO2 composites were characterized using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Results indicated that a nano-porous titania layer with mean pore size of 150 nm and thickness of 1 μm was formed by chemical oxidation at 80 °C for 45 min. There were three Ag species (Ag (0), Ag (1+), and Ag (2+)) on composites surface after annealing treatment, and metallic Ag content achieved maximum value with annealing temperature of 500 °C in air. Ag showed high thermal stability being partly attributed to the inhibiting the diffusion of Ag by the underlying porous titania.  相似文献

We have studied the properties of ZnO thin films grown by laser ablation of ZnO targets on (0 0 0 1) sapphire (Al2O3), under substrate temperatures around 400 °C. The films were characterized by different methods including X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). XPS analysis revealed that the films are oxygen deficient, and XRD analysis with θ-2θ scans and rocking curves indicate that the ZnO thin films are highly c-axis oriented. All the films are ultraviolet (UV) sensitive. Sensitivity is maximum for the films deposited at lower temperature. The films deposited at higher temperatures show crystallite sizes of typically 500 nm, a high dark current and minimum photoresponse. In all films we observe persistent photoconductivity decay. More densely packed crystallites and a faster decay in photocurrent is observed for films deposited at lower temperature.  相似文献

Thin silver films were prepared by direct current magnetron sputtering in a single-ended in-line sputter system at various substrate temperatures and in O2 contents in sputter gas, and their electrical, optical, structural and morphological properties together with the compositional properties were investigated. When deposited at room temperature, the electrical and optical properties of Ag films deteriorated with addition of O2 to sputter gas. Deposition of Ag films in O2 added sputter gas promoted the formation of Ag crystallites with (2 0 0) plane parallel to the substrate surface. The electrical resistivity and optical reflection of Ag films deposited above 100 °C were not affected by the sputtering plasma containing oxygen. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopic analysis showed that Ag films deposited above 100 °C in O2 added sputter gas did not possess surplus oxygen in the film, and that the oxidation states of these films were almost identical to that of Ag films deposited in pure Ar gas.  相似文献

NiTi shape memory alloy thin films are deposited on pure Cu substrate at substrate ambient temperatures of 300 °C and 450 °C. The surface and interface oxidation of NiTi thin films are characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). After a subsequent annealing treatment the crystallization behavior of the films deposited on substrate at different temperatures is studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD). The effects of substrate temperature on the surface and interface oxidation of NiTi thin films are investigated. In the film surface this is an oxide layer composed of TiO2. The Ni atom has not been detected on surface. In the film/substrate interface there is an oxide layer with a mixture Ti2O3 and NiO in the films deposited at substrate temperatures 300 °C and 450 °C. In the films deposited at ambient temperature, the interface layer contains Ti suboxides (TiO) and metallic Ni.  相似文献

XPS and UPS investigations of ultrathin films of In/Ag and Ag/In, deposited onto the W(1 1 0) surface in the ultrahigh vacuum conditions have been performed. Indium and silver films were formed by “in-situ” evaporation on W(1 1 0) substrate. XPS and UPS studies have been performed by means of SCIENTA ESCA200 instrument. The changes of In4d core-level and Ag4d valence band emissions with increasing Ag and In coverage were monitored to observe the energy shift and shape of the spin-orbit doublet of In4d and Ag4d lines in the Ag/In/W and In/Ag/W systems. UPS (HeI and HeII) measurements were supported by XPS AlKα measurements of In3d and W4p levels, as well as by investigations of Ag3d levels. XPS and UPS data allowed to evaluate the coverage and make conclusions concerning intermixing and surface alloying in the In/Ag/W and Ag/In/W systems. W(1 1 0) substrate can be cleaned after each deposition by thermal desorption and no alloying in the In/W and Ag/W systems is observed.  相似文献

Pd-induced surface structures on Si(1 1 3) have been studied by scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). In the initial process of the Pd adsorption below 0.10 ML, Pd silicide (Pd2Si) clusters are observed to form randomly on the surface. By increasing the Pd coverage to 0.10 ML, the clusters cover the entire surface, and an amorphous layer is formed. After annealing the Si(1 1 3)-Pd surface at 600 °C, various types of islands and chain protrusions appears. The agglomeration, coalescence and crystallization of these islands are observed by using high temperature (HT-) STM. It is also found by XPS that the islands correspond to Pd2Si structure. On the basis of these results, evolution of Pd-induced structures at high temperatures is in detail discussed.  相似文献

Silicon nitride films have been deposited at a low temperature (70 °C) by inductively coupled plasma chemical vapor deposition (ICP-CVD) technique and their physical and chemical properties were studied. For a deposited SiN sample, β-phase was observed and refractive index of 2.1 at 13.18 nm/min deposition rate was obtained. The attained stress of 0.08 GPa is lower as compared to the reported value of 1.1 GPa for SiN thin films. To study the deposited film, characterization was performed using X-ray photoelectron spectra (XPS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), micro Raman spectroscopy, Fourier transfer infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), cross-section scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM).  相似文献

Temperature programmed reaction spectroscopy (TPRS), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and reflection absorption infrared spectroscopy (RAIRS) were used to study the partial oxidation of styrene on Ag(1 1 1). Styrene oxide, benzene, and benzoic acid were identified as partially oxidized reaction products. XPS and RAIRS provide evidence for the formation of a styrene-derived surface oxametallacycle that either forms styrene oxide or is further oxidized in a branching reaction to form benzoate, which is the intermediate responsible for the formation of both benzene and benzoic acid. The strong dependence of the product distribution on oxygen coverage suggests that O monomers adsorbed on Ag(1 1 1) provide a higher selectivity for partial oxidation than oxygen from the Ag(1 1 1)-p(4 × 4)-O reconstruction.  相似文献

In this paper, we present the results of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy characterization of SnO2 thin films prepared by laser chemical vapour deposition (L-CVD) and subsequently covered by Ag atoms just after deposition and after long-term exposed to dry air, subsequent annealing in ultra high vacuum at 400 °C and dry air oxidation at 400 °C. Using the standard analytical procedure based on atomic sensitivity factors, the variation of surface chemistry defined in terms of the relative concentration of the main components of the films after the above-mentioned procedures has been determined. It was confirmed that after dry air exposure as well as dry air oxidation, the layers undergo an oxidation reaching almost SnO2 stoichiometry. Besides, during ultra high vacuum annealing, the films undergo reduction to almost SnO stoichiometry. At the same time, Ag atoms deposited at the top of layers diffuse into the subsurface layers. This was confirmed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy depth profiling analysis.  相似文献

Two groups of Mo/Si films were deposited on surface of Si(1 0 0) crystal. The first group of the samples was prepared by both ion beam assisted deposition (IBAD) and metal vapor vacuum arc (MEVVA) ion implantation technologies under temperatures from 200 to 400 °C. The deposited species of IBAD were Mo and Si, and different sputtering Ar ion densities were selected. The mixed Mo/Si films were implanted by Mo ion with energy of 94 keV, and fluence of Mo ion was 5 × 1016 ions/cm2. The second group of the samples was prepared only by IBAD under the same test temperature range. The Mo/Si samples were analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), atomic force microscopy (AFM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), sheet resistance, nanohardness, and modulus of the Mo/Si films were also measured. For the Mo/Si films implanted with Mo ion, XRD results indicate that phase of the Mo/Si films prepared at 400 and 300 °C was pure MoSi2. Sheet resistance of the Mo/Si films implanted with Mo ion was less than that of the Mo/Si films prepared without ion implantation. Nanohardness and modulus of the Mo/Si films were obviously affected by test parameters.  相似文献
