The growth of Au on an ultra-thin, ordered Mo(1 1 2)-(8 × 2)-TiOx, was investigated using scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), low energy ion scattering spectroscopy (LEISS), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and temperature programmed desorption (TPD). Wetting of the TiOx surface by Au was observed with STM and LEISS, and the ordering of the Au films was atomically resolved with STM. TPD showed that Au binds more strongly to the reduced TiOx film than to bulk TiO2, but more weakly than to the Mo substrate. The Au-TiOx binding energy is greater than Au-Au in bulk Au. The oxidation state of Ti in the TiOx film was deduced by XPS and from the Ti-O phonon shifts relative to bulk TiO2. The TiOx/Mo(1 1 2) film structure and those for the (1 × 1)- and (1 × 3)-Au/TiOx/Mo(1 1 2) surfaces are discussed.  相似文献

The growth of thin subnanometric silicon films on TiO2 (1 1 0)-(1 × 2) reconstructed surfaces at room temperature (RT) has been studied in situ by X-ray and ultra-violet photoelectron spectroscopies (XPS and UPS), Auger electron and electron-energy-loss spectroscopies (AES and ELS), quantitative low energy electron diffraction (LEED-IV), and scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). For Si coverage up to one monolayer, a heterogeneous layer is formed. Its composition consists of a mixture of different suboxides SiOx (1 < x ? 2) on top of a further reduced TiO2 surface. Upon Si coverage, the characteristic (1 × 2) LEED pattern from the substrate is completely attenuated, indicating absence of long-range order. Annealing the SiOx overlayer results in the formation of suboxides with different stoichiometry. The LEED pattern recovers the characteristic TiO2 (1 1 0)-(1 × 2) diagram. LEED I-V curves from both, substrate and overlayer, indicate the formation of nanometric sized SiOx clusters.  相似文献

Au/TiO2/Ru(0 0 0 1) model catalysts and their interaction with CO were investigated by scanning tunneling microscopy and different surface spectroscopies. Thin titanium oxide films were prepared by Ti deposition on Ru(0 0 0 1) in an O2 atmosphere and subsequent annealing in O2. By optimizing the conditions for deposition and post-treatment, smooth films were obtained either as fully oxidized TiO2 or as partly reduced TiOx, depending on the preparation conditions. CO adsorbed molecularly on both oxidized and reduced TiO2, with slightly stronger bonding on the reduced films. Model catalyst surfaces were prepared by depositing submonolayer quantities of Au on the films and characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and scanning tunneling microscopy. From X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, a weak interaction between the Au and the TiO2 substrate was found. At 100 K CO adsorption occurred on both the TiO2 film and on the Au nanoparticles. CO desorbed from the Au particles with activation energies between 53 and 65 kJ/mol, depending on the Au coverage. If the Au deposit was annealed to 770 K prior to CO exposure, the CO adsorption energy decreased significantly. STM measurements revealed that the Au particles grow upon annealing, but are not encapsulated by TiOx suboxides. The higher CO adsorption energy observed for smaller Au coverages and before annealing is attributed to a significantly stronger interaction of CO with mono- and bilayer Au islands, while for higher particles, the adsorption energy becomes more bulk-like. The implications of these effects on the known particle size effects in CO oxidation over supported Au/TiO2 catalysts are discussed.  相似文献

The synthesis by pulsed laser deposition technique of zinc oxide thin films suitable for gas sensing applications is herein reported. The ZnO targets were irradiated by an UV KrF* (λ = 248 nm, τFWHM ∼7 ns) excimer laser source, operated at 2.8 J/cm2 incident fluence value, whilst the substrates consisted of SiO2(0 0 1) wafers heated at 150 °C during the thin films growth process. The experiments were performed in an oxygen dynamic pressure of 10 Pa. Structural and optical properties of the thin films were investigated. The obtained results have demonstrated that the films are c-axis oriented. Their average transmission in the visible-infrared spectral region was found to be about 85%. The equivalent refractive indexes and extinction coefficients were very close to those of the tabulated reference values. Doping with 0.5% Au and coating with 100 pulses of Au clusters caused but a very slight decrease (with a few percent) of both transmission and refractive index values. The coatings with the most appropriate optical properties as waveguides have been selected and their behavior was tested for butane sensing.  相似文献

The interaction of cobalt atoms with an oxidized Si(1 0 0)2 × 1 surface was studied by photoelectron spectroscopy with synchrotron radiation at room and elevated temperatures. The SiOx layer grown in situ on the crystal surface was ∼0.3 nm thick, and the amount of deposited cobalt was varied within eight atomic layers. It was found that Co atoms could penetrate under the SiOx layer even at room temperature in the initial growth. As the Co amount increased, a ternary Co-O-Si phase was formed at the interface, followed by a Co-Si solid solution. Silicide synthesis associated with the decomposition of these phases started under the SiOx layer at ∼250 °C, producing cobalt disilicide with a stable CaF2-type of structure.  相似文献

A crystallization and surface evolution study of Au thin film on SiO2 substrates following annealing at different temperatures above the eutectic point of the Au/Si system are reported. Samples were prepared by conventional evaporation of gold in a high vacuum (10−7 mbar) environment on substrates at room temperature. Thermal treatments were performed by both furnace and flame annealing techniques. Au thin films can be crystallized on SiO2 substrates by both furnace and flame annealing. Annealing arranges the Au crystallites in the (1 1 1) plane direction and changes the morphology of the surface. Both, slow and rapid annealing result in a good background in the XRD spectra and hence clean and complete crystallization which depends more on the temperature than on the time of annealing. The epitaxial temperature for the Au/SiO2 system decreases in the range of 350-400 °C. Furnace and flame annealing also form crystallized gold islands over the Au/SiO2 surface. Relaxation at high temperatures of the strained Au layer, obtained after deposition, should be responsible for the initial stages of clusters formation. Gold nucleation sites may be formed at disordered points on the surface and they become islands when the temperature and time of annealing are increased. The growth rate of crystallites is highest around 360 °C. Above this temperature, the layer melts and gold diffuses from the substrate to the nucleation sites to increase the distance between islands and modify their shapes. Well above the eutectic temperature, the relaxed islands have hexagonally shaped borders. The mean crystallite diameters grow up to a maximum mean size of around 90 nm. The free activation energy for grain boundary migration above 360 °C is 0.2 eV. Therefore the type of the silicon substrate changes the mechanism of diffusion and growth of crystallites during annealing of the Au/Si system. Epitaxial Au(1 1 1) layers without formation of islands can be prepared by furnace annealing in the range of 300-310 °C and by flame annealing of a few seconds and up to 0.5 min.  相似文献

BiFeO3/Zn1−xMnxO (x = 0-0.08) bilayered thin films were deposited on the SrRuO3/Pt/TiO2/SiO2/Si(1 0 0) substrates by radio frequency sputtering. A highly (1 1 0) orientation was induced for BiFeO3/Zn1−xMnxO. BiFeO3/Zn1−xMnxO thin films demonstrate diode-like and resistive hysteresis behavior. A remanent polarization in the range of 2Pr ∼ 121.0-130.6 μC/cm2 was measured for BiFeO3/Zn1−xMnxO. BiFeO3/Zn1−xMnxO (x = 0.04) bilayer exhibits a highest Ms value of 15.2 emu/cm3, owing to the presence of the magnetic Zn0.96Mn0.04O layer with an enhanced Ms value.  相似文献

Growth modes and electronic properties were analyzed for Au nano-particles grown on stoichiometric and reduced TiO2(1 1 0) substrates by medium energy ion scattering (MEIS) and photoelectron spectroscopy(PES) using synchrotron-radiation-light. Initially, two-dimensional islands (2D) with a height of one and two atomic layers grow and higher coverage increases the islands height to form three-dimensional (3D) islands for the stoichiometric TiO2(1 1 0) substrate. In contrast, 3D islands start to grow from initial stage with a small Au coverage (?0.1 ML, 1 ML = 1.39 × 1015  atoms/cm2: Au(1 1 1)) probably due to O-vacancies acting as a nucleation site. Above 0.7 ML, all the islands become 3D ones taking a shape of a partial sphere and the Au clusters change to metal for both substrates. We observed the Au 4f and Ti 3p core level shifts together with the valence band spectra. The Ti 3p peak for the O-deficient surface shifts to higher binding energy by 0.25 ± 0.05 eV compared to that for the stoichiometric surface, indicating downward band bending by an electron charge transfer from an O-vacancy induced surface state band to n-type TiO2 substrate. Higher binding energy shifts of Au 4f peaks observed for both substrates reveal an electron charge transfer from Au to TiO2 substrates. The work functions of Au nano-particles supported on the stoichiometric and reduced TiO2 substrates were also determined as a function of Au coverage and explained clearly by the above surface and interface dipoles.  相似文献

Pure and Nb-doped titanium oxide thin films were grown on sapphire substrates by pulsed-laser deposition in vacuum (10−7 mbar). The PLD growth leads to titanium oxide thin films displaying a high oxygen deficiency (TiO1.5) compared with the stoichiometric TiO2 compound. The structural and electrical properties (phase, crystalline orientation, nature and concentration of charge carriers, etc.) of these titanium oxide films were studied by XRD measurements and Hall effect experiments, respectively. The undoped TiO1.5 phase displayed a p-type semiconductivity. Doping this titanium oxide phase with Nb5+ leads to an n-type behaviour as is generally observed for titanium oxide films with oxygen deficiency (TiOx with 1.7 < x < 2). Multilayer homojunctions were obtained by the stacking of TiO1.5 (p-type) and Nb-TiO1.5 (n-type) thin films deposited onto sapphire substrates. Each layer is 75 nm thick and the resulting heterostructure shows a good transparency in the visible range. Finally, the I-V curves obtained for such systems exhibit a rectifying response and demonstrate that it is possible to fabricate p-n homojunctions based only on transparent conductive oxide thin films and on a single chemical compound (TiOx).  相似文献

In this work, silicon suboxide (SiOx) thin films were deposited using a RF magnetron sputtering system. A thin layer of gold (Au) with a thickness of about 10 nm was sputtered onto the surface of the deposited SiOx films prior to the thermal annealing process at 400 °C, 600 °C, 800 °C and 1000 °C. The optical and structural properties of the samples were studied using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), X-ray diffractometry (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and optical transmission and reflection spectroscopy. SEM analyses demonstrated that the samples annealed at different temperatures produced different Au particle sizes and shapes. SiOx nanowires were found in the sample annealed at 1000 °C. Au particles induce the crystallinity of SiOx thin films in the post-thermal annealing process at different temperatures. These annealed samples produced silicon nanocrystallites with sizes of less than 4 nm, and the Au nanocrystallite sizes were in the range of 7-23 nm. With increased annealing temperature, the bond angle of the Si-O bond increased and the optical energy gap of the thin films decreased. The appearance of broad surface plasmon resonance absorption peaks in the region of 590-740 nm was observed due to the inclusion of Au particles in the samples. The results show that the position and intensity of the surface plasmon resonance peaks can be greatly influenced by the size, shape and distribution of Au particles.  相似文献

A method for the formation of Au nanocrystal (nc) arrays embedded in an ultrathin SiO2 layer in one vacuum cycle is proposed. The method is based on the co-deposition in vacuum of ∼1 nm thick uniform Si-Au amorphous layer at a specific composition ratio by Pulsed Laser Deposition on the pre-oxidized Si(1 0 0) substrate, followed by its oxidation in the glow discharge oxygen plasma at room temperature, resulting in the precipitation of Au ncs at the bottom interface and/or at the surface of the forming SiO2 layer. The capping SiO2 layer is formed by the glow discharge plasma oxidation of further deposited ultrathin Si layer. Au ncs 2-5 nm in size and with the separation of ∼3-20 nm from each other segregate during the oxidation of Au-Si mixture as evidenced by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The evolution of Au and Si chemical state upon each step of the SiO2:nc-Au nanocomposite structure formation is monitored in situ by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The metrology of nanocomposite SiO2:nc-Au structures describing the space distribution of Au ncs as a function of Au/Si ratio is presented.  相似文献

In this study, TiO2−xNx/TiO2 double layers thin film was deposited on ZnO (80 nm thickness)/soda-lime glass substrate by a dc reactive magnetron sputtering. The TiO2 film was deposited under different total gas pressures of 1 Pa, 2 Pa, and 4 Pa with constant oxygen flow rate of 0.8 sccm. Then, the deposition was continued with various nitrogen flow rates of 0.4, 0.8, and 1.2 sccm in constant total gas pressure of 4 Pa. Post annealing was performed on as-deposited films at various annealing temperatures of 400, 500, and 600 °C in air atmosphere to achieve films crystallinity. The structure and morphology of deposited films were evaluated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The chemical composition of top layer doped by nitrogen was evaluated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Photocatalytic activity of samples was measured by degradation of Methylene Blue (MB) dye. The optical transmittance of the multilayer film was also measured using ultraviolet-visible light (UV-vis) spectrophotometer. The results showed that by nitrogen doping of a fraction (∼1/5) of TiO2 film thickness, the optical transmittance of TiO2−xNx/TiO2 film was compared with TiO2 thin film. Deposited films showed also good photocatalytic and hydrophilicity activity at visible light.  相似文献

Rapid thermal oxidation of high-Ge content (Ge-rich) Si1−xGex (x = 0.85) layers in dry O2 ambient has been investigated. High-resolution X-ray diffraction (HRXRD) and strain-sensitive two-dimensional reciprocal space mapping X-ray diffractometry (2D-RSM) are employed to investigate strain relaxation and composition of as-grown SiGe alloy layers. Characterizations of ultra thin oxides (∼6-8 nm) have been performed using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and high-resolution X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (HRXPS). Formation of mixed oxide i.e., (SiO2 + GeO2) and pile-up of Ge at the oxide/Si1−xGex interface have been observed. Enhancement in Ge segregation and reduction of oxide thickness with increasing oxidation temperature are reported. Interface properties and leakage current behavior of the rapid thermal oxides have been studied by capacitance-voltage (C-V) and current-voltage (J-V) techniques using metal-oxide-semiconductor capacitor (MOSCAP) structures and the results are reported.  相似文献

The properties of ultra-thin oxide/Si and very-thin oxide/Si structures prepared by wet chemical oxidation in nitric acid aqueous solutions (NAOS) and passivated in HCN aqueous solutions were investigated by electrical, optical and structural methods. n- and p-doped (1 0 0) crystalline Si substrates were used. There were identified more types of interface defect states in dependence on both post-oxidation treatment and passivation procedure. On samples prepared on n-type Si, continuous spectrum of defect states of 0.05-0.2 eV range and discrete defect traps, ∼ECB − 0.26 eV and ∼ECB − 0.39 eV, were found. All mentioned defects are related with various types of Si dangling bonds and/or with SiOx precipitates. Post-metallization annealing of investigated MOS structures reduced the interface defect density and suppressed the leakage currents. It did not change spectral profile of interface defect states in the Si band gap. In addition, there are presented following two optical phenomena: relation between amplitude of photoluminescence signal of NAOS samples and parameters of chemical oxidation process and quantum confinement effect observed on samples containing Si grains of size less as ∼2 nm.  相似文献

We have investigated the phase separation and silicon nanocrystal (Si NC) formation in correlation with the optical properties of Si suboxide (SiOx, 0 < x < 2) films by thermal annealing in high vacuum. The SiOx films were deposited by plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition at different nitrous oxide/silane (N2O/SiH4) flow ratios. The as-deposited films show increased Si concentration with decreasing N2O/SiH4 flow ratio, while the deposition rate and surface roughness have strong correlations with the flow ratio in the N2O/SiH4 reaction. After thermal annealing at temperatures above 1000 °C, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and transmission electron microscopy manifest the progressive phase separation and continuous growth of crystalline-Si (c-Si) NCs in the SiOx films with increasing annealing temperature. We observe a transition from multiple-peak to single peak of the strong red-range photoluminescence (PL) with increasing Si concentration and annealing temperature. The appearance of the single peak in the PL is closely related to the c-Si NC formation. The PL also redshifts from ∼1.9 to 1.4 eV with increasing Si concentration and annealing temperature (i.e., increasing NC size). The good agreements of the PL evolution with NC formation and the PL peak energy with NC size distribution support the quantum confinement model.  相似文献

Cobalt-ferrite (CoFe2O4) based materials are suitable candidates for magnetomechanical sensor applications owing to a strong sensitivity of their magnetostriction to an applied magnetic field. Zn-doped cobalt-ferrites, with nominal compositions CoFe2−xZnxO4 (x=0–0.3), were synthesized by auto-combustion technique using Co- , Fe- , and Zn-nitrate as precursors. X-ray spectra analysis and Transmission electron microscopy studies revealed that the as-prepared powders were comprised of nano-crystalline (∼25–30 nm) cubic-spinel phase with irregularly-shaped grains morphology along with minor impurity phases. Calcination (800 °C for 3 h) of the precursor followed by sintering (1300 °C for 12 h) resulted in a single phase cubic-spinel structure with average grain size ∼2–4 μm, as revealed from scanning electron micrographs. The magnitude of coercive field decreases from ∼540 Oe for x=0 to 105 Oe for x=0.30. Saturation magnetization initially increases and peaks to ∼87 emu/g for x=0.2 and then decreases. The peak value of magnetostriction monotonically decreases with increasing Zn content in the range 0.0–0.3; however the piezomagnetic coefficient (/dH) reaches a maximum value of 105×10−9 Oe−1 for x=0.1. The observed variation in piezomagnetic coefficient in the Zn substituted cobalt ferrite is related to the reduced anisotropy of the system. The Zn-doped cobalt-ferrite (x=0.1) having high strain derivative could be a potential material for stress sensor application.  相似文献

Lithium ion conducting solid-state composites consisting of lithium ion conducting ionic liquid, lithium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)amide (Li-TFSA) dissolved 1-ethyl-3-methyl imidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)amide (EMI-TFSA), denoted by [yMLi+][EMI+][TFSA] in this study, and various oxide particles such as SiO2, Al2O3, TiO2 (anatase and rutile) and 3YSZ are synthesized via a liquid route for the molar concentration of lithium, y, to be 1. The composite consists of SiO2 and the ionic liquid with y = 0.2 was also prepared. The ionic liquid are quasi-solidified at the above oxide particle surfaces when x is below 40 for y = 1 and x is below 30 for y = 0.2, corresponding to the confinable thickness of the ionic liquid at the oxides' surfaces to be approximately 5-10 nm regardless of the oxide compositions. The electrical conductivities of x vol.%[yMLi+][EMI+][TFSA-]-SiO2, Al2O3, TiO2s or 3YSZ composites are evaluated by ac impedance measurements. The quasi-solid-state composites exhibited liquid-like high apparent conductivity, e.g. 10− 3.3-10− 2.0 S cm− 1 in the temperature range of 323-538 K for SiO2-ionic liquid composites with y = 1. The self-diffusion coefficients of the constituent species of x vol.% [yMLi+][EMI+][TFSA] (x is below 40, y = 0.2 and 1) − SiO2 are evaluated by the Pulse Gradient Spin Echo (PGSE)-NMR technique in the temperature range of 298-348 K. By the quasi-solidification of the ionic liquid at SiO2 particle surfaces, the absolute values of the diffusion coefficients of all constituent species decreased. The SiO2 surfaces work to promote ionization of ion pair, [EMI+][TFSA], while significant influence on the solvation coordination, [Li(TFSA)n + 1]n, was not observed. The apparent transport numbers of Li-containing species both in the bulk and the quasi-solidified ionic liquid showed similar values with each other, which was evaluated to be in the range of 0.010-0.017 for y = 0.2 and 0.051-0.093 for y = 1 in the abovementioned temperature range.  相似文献

We describe the growth and properties of well-defined epitaxial TiO2−xNx rutile for the first time. A mixed beam of atomic N and O radicals was prepared in an electron cyclotron resonance plasma source and Ti was supplied from a high-temperature effusion cell or an electron beam evaporator, depending on the required flux. A very high degree of structural quality is generally observed for films grown under optimized anion-rich conditions. N substitutes for O in the lattice, but only at the ∼1 at.% level, and is present as N3−. Epitaxial growth of TiO2 and TiO2−xNx rutile prepared under anion-rich conditions is accompanied by Ti indiffusion, leading to interstitial Ti (Tii), which is a shallow donor in rutile. Our data strongly suggest that Tii donor electrons compensate holes associated with substitutional N2− (i.e., Ti(III) + N2− → Ti(IV) + N3−), leading to highly resistive or weakly n-type, but not p-type material. Ti 2p core-level line shape analysis reveals hybridization of N and Ti, as expected for substitutional N. Ti-N hybridized states fall in the gap just above the VBM, and extend the optical absorption well into the visible.  相似文献

The magnetocaloric properties of melt-spun Gd-B alloys were examined with the aim to explore their potential application as magnetic refrigerants near room temperature. A series of Gd100−xBx (x=0, 5, 10, 15, and 20 at%) alloys were prepared by melt spinning. With the decrease in Gd/B ratio, Curie temperature (TC) remains constant at ∼293 K, and saturation magnetization, at 275 K, decreases from ∼100 to ∼78 emu/g. Negligible magnetic hysteresis was observed in these alloys. The peak value of magnetic entropy change, (−ΔSM)max, decreased from ∼9.9 J/kg K (0-5 T) and ∼5.5 J/kg K (0-2 T) for melt-spun Gd to ∼7.7 J/kg K (0-5 T) and ∼4.0 J/kg K (0-2 T), respectively for melt-spun Gd85B15 and Gd80B20 alloys. Similarly, the refrigeration capacity (q) decreased monotonously from ∼430 J/kg (0-5 T) for melt-spun Gd to ∼330 J/kg (0-5 T) for melt-spun Gd80B20 alloy. The near room temperature magnetocaloric properties of melt-spun Gd100−xBx (0≤x≤20) alloys were found to be comparable to few first-order transition based magnetic refrigerants.  相似文献

The amorphous silicon oxide SiO2−x thin films were prepared by the plasma-assisted pulsed laser deposition (PLD) method. X-ray diffraction spectrometry (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), UV-VIS-NIR scanning spectrophotometry and ellipsometry were used to characterize the crystallinity, microscopic morphology and optical properties of obtained thin films. The influences of substrate temperatures, oxygen partial pressures and oxygen plasma assistance on the compositions of silicon oxide (SiO2−x) thin films were investigated. Results show that the deposited thin films are amorphous and have high surface quality. Stoichiometric silicon dioxide (SiO2) thin film can be obtained at elevated temperature of 200 °C in an oxygen plasma-assisted atmosphere. Using normal incidence transmittance, a novel and simple method has been proposed to evaluate the value of x in transparent SiO2−x thin films on a non-absorbing flat substrate.  相似文献
