High energy electron acceleration in a wake field generated in the intense ultrashort (30fs) laser pulse cluster gas jet interaction is experimentally demonstrated. Relativistic electrons with energy of 60 MeV were observed. These high energy electrons split into two beams due to the relativistic self-focusing of the laser.  相似文献

The steady state ion acceleration at the front of a cold solid target by a circularly polarized flat-top laser pulse is studied with one-dimensional particle-in-cell (PIC) simulation. A model that ions are reflected by a steady laser-driven piston is used by comparing with the electrostatic shock acceleration. A stable profile with a double-flat-top structure in phase space forms after ions enter the undisturbed region of the target with a constant velocity.  相似文献

The theory and experiments concerned with the electron-ion thermal relaxation and melting of overheated crystal lattice constitute the subject of this paper. The physical model includes two-temperature (2T) equation of state, many-body interatomic potential, the electron-ion energy exchange, electron thermal conductivity, and optical properties of solid, liquid, and two phase solid-liquid mixture. Two-temperature hydrodynamics and molecular dynamics codes are used. An experimental setup with pump-probe technique is used to follow evolution of an irradiated target with a short time step 100 fs between the probe femtosecond laser pulses. Accuracy of measurements of reflection coefficient and phase of reflected probe light are 1% and ∼1 nm, respectively. It is found that, firstly, the electron-electron collisions make a minor contribution to a light absorption in solid Al at moderate intensities; secondly, the phase shift of a reflected probe results from heating of ion subsystem and kinetics of melting of Al crystal during  ps, where t is time delay between the pump and probe pulses measured from the maximum of the pump; thirdly, the optical response of Au to a pump shows a marked contrast to that of Al on account of excitation of d-electrons.  相似文献

An externally applied longitudinal magnetic field was found to enhance the particle trapping in the laser wakefield acceleration. When a static magnetic field of a few tens of tesla is applied in parallel with the propagation direction of a driving laser pulse, it is shown from two-dimensional particle-in-cell simulations that total charge of the trapped beam and its maximum energy increase. The analysis of electron trajectories strongly suggests that the enhanced trapping originates from the suppression of the transverse motion by the magnetic field. The enhanced trapping by the magnetic field was observed consistently for various values of the plasma density, the amplitude of the laser pulse and pulse spot size.  相似文献

The wavelength dependence of laser-produced breakdown in air, CO and CO2 has been studied using the four Nd:YAG harmonics (266 nm, 355 nm, 532 nm and 1064 nm) and the ArF-excimer laser (193 nm). Breakdown thresholds at these wavelengths are reported for air, CO and CO2. A significant reduction in the breakdown thresholds for both CO and CO2 is apparent when comparing 193 nm with the four Nd:YAG harmonics. This reduction is attributed to the resonance-enhanced two-photon ionization of metastable carbon atoms generated in the laser focus at the ArF-laser wavelength. In addition to reporting breakdown thresholds, the laser-produced plasmas in CO and CO2 are characterized in terms of plasma temperatures and electron densities which are measured by time-resolved emission spectroscopy. Electron densities range from 9 × 1017 cm–3 to 1 × 1017 cm–3. Excitation temperatures range from 22 000 K at 0.2 µs to 11 000 K at 2 µs. Ionization temperatures range from 22 000 K at 0.1 µs to 16 000 K at 2 µs. Evidence is presented to indicate that, like ArF-laser-produced plasmas, Nd:YAG-laser-produced plasmas formed in CO and CO2 are in or near a state of Local Thermodynamic Equilibrium (LTE) soon after their formation.  相似文献

We present a theoretical investigation of the excitation of multiple electrostatic wakefields by the ponderomotive force of a short electromagnetic pulse propagating through a dense plasma. It is found that the inclusion of the quantum statistical pressure and quantum electron tunneling effects can qualitatively change the classical behavior of the wakefield. In addition to the well-known plasma oscillation wakefield, with a wavelength of the order of the electron skin depth (λe=c/ωpe, which in a dense plasma is of the order of several nanometers, where c is the speed of light in vacuum and ωpe is the electron plasma frequency), wakefields in dense plasmas with a shorter wavelength (in comparison with λe) are also excited. The wakefields can trap electrons and accelerate them to extremely high energies over nanoscales.  相似文献

The plasma jet formed on the rear surface of a foil in laser–solid interaction is investigated by laser probing. The rear plasma jet, which is in line with the laser, formed a few picoseconds after the incidence of the focused laser, is due to a beam of fast electrons propagating through the target and is collimated by a strong magnetic field in the plasma. Perspectives of magnetic confinement for the increase of life times of laser plasmas generated by femtosecond laser pulses are considered. Possibilities that are provided by miniature magnetic cusp configurations with magnetic fields of moderate intensities (of order of Teslas) are investigated. The construction of micro-traps with permanent magnets, making it possible to increase neutron yield, seems to be very simple and possible for most modern “table top" laser experiments.  相似文献

Hydrogen-like and helium-like X-ray spectra (between 7.1 and 8.2 , i.e., 1500 to 17.50 eV, respectively) from solid aluminium targets irradiated with high intensity (up to 1017 W/cm2) subpicosecond (0.7 ps) laser pulses have been measured. The spectra show that the resonance lines are very broad and very asymmetric. Evidence for a Doppler-shifted reabsorption of the resonance line emission has been found. The spectra have been simulated by a computer code for the calculation of spectral-line intensities and linewidths. Electron densities exceeding the critical density have been estimated for different laser intensities by comparing the observed and simulated intensity ratio of different dielectronic satellite lines. From the X-ray spectra generated byp- ands-polarized radiation fat different laser intensities, the thresholds for the formation of hydrogen-like and helium-like ions have been determined.  相似文献

Pulsed laser deposition performed by a laser with a pulse duration of 250 fs has been used to deposit films from a Cr3C2 target. Due to the different processes involved in the laser ablation when it is performed by an ultra-short pulse source instead of a conventional short pulse one, it has been possible to obtain in vacuum films containing only one type of carbide, Cr3C2, as shown by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. On the other hand, Cr3C2 is not the only component of the films, since a large amount of amorphous carbon is also present. The films, deposited at room temperature, are amorphous and seem to be formed by the coalescence of a large number of particles with nanometric size. The film composition can be explained in terms of thermal evaporation from particles ejected from the target.  相似文献

Investigation of the process of nanohole formation on silicon surface mediated with near electromagnetic field enhancement in vicinity of gold particles is described. Gold nanospheres with diameters of 40, 80 and 200 nm are used. Irradiation of the samples with laser pulse at fluences below the ablation threshold for native Si surface, results in a nanosized surface modification. The nanostructure formation is investigated for the fundamental (λ = 800 nm, 100 fs) and the second harmonic (λ = 400 nm, 250 fs) of the laser radiation generated by ultrashort Ti:sapphire laser system. The near electric field distribution is analyzed by an Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD) simulation code. The properties of the produced morphological changes on the Si surface are found to depend strongly on the polarization and the wavelength of the laser irradiation. When the laser pulse is linearly polarized the produced nanohole shape is elongated in the E-direction of the polarization. The shape of the hole becomes symmetrical when the laser radiation is circularly polarized. The size of the ablated holes depends on the size of the gold particles, as the smallest holes are produced with the smallest particles. The variation of the laser fluence and the particle size gives possibility of fabricating structures with lateral dimensions ranging from 200 nm to below 40 nm. Explanation of the obtained results is given on the basis simulations of the near field properties using FDTD model and Mie's theory.  相似文献

The influence of a prepulse on soft X-ray emission in the range of 50–200 from an aluminium plasma produced by 130 fs Ti: Sapphire laser pulses with an intensity of 1014 W/cm2 at normal incidence is studied. An ultrashort prepulse with an intensity of 1013 W/cm2 significantly enhances soft X-ray emission when there is a long time separation ( > 100 ps) between the prepulse and an intense main pulse. It is also observed for the first time that a prepulse with a short pulse time separation can slightly reduce soft X-ray emission, contrary to the previous work done using 248 nm laser pulses. This can be explained qualitatively in terms of the dependence of absorption on the length scale.  相似文献

We measured the momentum coupling coefficient Cm and laser-generated ion drift velocity and temperature in the femtosecond (fs) region, over a laser intensity range from ablation threshold to about one hundred times threshold. Targets were several pure metals and three organic compounds. The organic compounds were exothermic polymers specifically developed for the micro-laser plasma thruster, and two of these used “tuned absorbers” rather than carbon particles for laser absorption. The metals ranged from Li to W in atomic weight. We measured time of flight (TOF) profiles for ions. Specific impulse reached record values for this type of measurement and ablation efficiency was near 100%. These measurements extend the laser pulsewidth three orders of magnitude downward in pulsewidth relative to previous reports. Over this range, we found Cm to be essentially constant. Ion velocity ranged from 60 to 180 km/s.  相似文献

We report a spectroscopic analysis of a filament generated by a femtosecond laser pulse in air. In the filament spectra, the characteristic Stark broadened atomic oxygen triplet centered at 777.4 nm has been observed. The measured electron impact Stark broadening parameter of the triplet is larger than the theoretical value by Griem [H.R. Griem, Plasma Spectroscopy, McGraw Hill, New York, 1964] by a factor 6.7. Using the experimental value , the plasma densities derived from Stark broadening agree well with those most recently obtained from Théberge et al.’s measurement of the nitrogen fluorescence calibrated by longitudinal diffraction [F. Théberge, W. Liu, P.T. Simard, A. Becker, S. L. Chin, Phys. Rev. E 74 (2006) 036406]. However, the Stark broadening approach is much simpler and can be used to non-invasively measure the filament plasma density distribution in air under different propagation conditions.  相似文献

In this work, the nanostructuring induced in femtosecond (fs) laser irradiation of biopolymers is examined in self-standing films of collagen and gelatine. Irradiation by single 90 fs pulses at 800, 400 and 266 nm is shown to result in the formation of a modified layer with submicrometric size structures. The size and uniformity of the observed features are strongly dependent on irradiation wavelength and on the characteristics of the biopolymer (water content and mechanical strength). Examination of the films by laser induced fluorescence serves to assess the chemical modifications induced by laser irradiation, revealing changes in the emission bands assigned to the aromatic amino acid tyrosine and its degradation products. The results are discussed in the framework of a mechanism involving the generation of large free-electron densities, through multiphoton and avalanche ionization, which determine the temperature and stress distribution in the irradiated volume.  相似文献

Microdroplets of 15-μm diameter are subjected to ultra-short laser pulses of intensities up to 1015Wcm−2 to produce hot dense plasma. The hot electrons produced in the microdroplet plasma result in efficient generation of hard X-rays in the range 50–150keV at an irradiance as low as 8×1014Wcm−2. The X-ray source efficiency is estimated to be about 2 ×10−7%. A prepulse that is about 11ns ahead of the main pulse strongly influences the droplet plasma and the resulting X-ray emission. For a similar laser prepulse and intensity, no measurable hard X-ray emission is observed when the laser is focused on a solid target of similar composition and this indicates that liquid droplet targets are best suited for hard X-ray generation in laser–plasma interactions.  相似文献

Two-dimensional particle-in-cell (PIC) simulations of laser-triggered ion acceleration in overdense plasma at moderate intensity (≃1.4×1018 W/cm2) and pulse duration (≃0.5 ps) are presented. We focus on the comparison of the efficiency of ion acceleration for normal and oblique incidence of the laser light, for backward and forward directions of ion emission, and for large and small focal spots. We discuss the correlation between the properties of accelerated ions and hot electrons, and identify the tendency of the ion spectra in the forward direction to those typical for the isothermal and adiabatic regimes of plasma expansion.  相似文献

Millimeter-long filaments and accompanying luminous plasma and defect channels created in fused silica (FS) by single focused femtosecond laser pulses with supercritical powers were probed in situ using optical imaging and contact ultrasonic techniques. Above the threshold pulse energy Eopt = 5 μJ corresponding to a few megawatt power levels pulses collapse due to self-focusing, producing channels filled by electron-hole plasma and luminescent defects, and exhibits predominantly compressive pressure transients. Analysis of the optical and ultrasonic response versus the laser pulse energy suggests that filamentary pulse propagation in the channels occurs with considerable dissipation of about ∼10 cm−1. The predominant ionization mechanism is most likely associated with avalanche ionization, while the main mechanism of optical absorption is free-carrier absorption via inverse Bremsstrahlung interaction with the polar lattice.  相似文献

The effect of a short prepulse (0.5 ps) on soft X-ray spectra from a plasma generated by a high intensity KrF* laser pulse (main pulse: 0.5 ps, intensity I main=5.3×1015 W/cm2) on flat targets of Al and Cu has been studied in detail. The spectra have been measured as a function of the pulse separation t between the two pulses and the prepulse intensity I pre. It was found that both the overall emission and the line emission increased with t (at constant I pre) and with I pre (at constant t). In particular, lines in the shorter wavelength region had higher intensity. The influence of the prepulse on the line emission of specific transitions in the Al spectra was investigated systematicly. An explanation for the observed effects is given.  相似文献

Characterisation of the plasma plume induced by femtosecond laser-metal interactions has been carried out using a Langmuir probe. A double peak distribution of ablated ions and electrons has been recorded during time of flight (TOF) experiments for three metals studied (Ag, Cu and Ni). The first peak which occurs earliest in time is attributed to a surface layer of contaminants on the metal surface as it is shown to disappear after several laser shots. The re-growth of this peak, thought to be due to a recontamination process on the surface of the metal, is the subject of this paper. Two re-contamination mechanisms were considered; adsorption of contaminants from the ambient gas, and surface diffusion effects from the surrounding contaminants. Re-contamination rates for Ag, Cu and Ni were studied under two distinct gas pressures to investigate the contamination effects from the ambient. Effects arising from surface diffusion were investigated by raising the temperature of the metal sample to increase the surface mobility of the contaminants. The total contribution of contamination species present in the ablation plume was estimated by conducting angular distribution measurements of the plume. Surface diffusion of the surrounding contaminants was found to be the dominant recontamination process.  相似文献
