The dynamics of two coupled antiphase driven Toda oscillators is studied. We demonstrate three different routes of transition to chaotic dynamics associated with different bifurcations of periodic and quasi-periodic regimes. As a result of these, two types of chaotic dynamics with one and two positive Lyapunov exponents are observed. We argue that the results obtained are robust as they can exist in a wide range of the system parameters.  相似文献

We show that two identical chaotic oscillators can evolve in antiphase synchronization regime when noncontinuous coupling between them is introduced. As an example, we consider dynamics of two mechanical oscillators coupled by impacts.  相似文献

We investigate the stability of the in-phase mode in a system of two delay-coupled bubble oscillators. The bubble oscillator model is based on a 1956 paper by Keller and Kolodner. Delay coupling is due to the time it takes for a signal to travel from one bubble to another through the liquid medium that surrounds them. Using techniques from the theory of differential-delay equations as well as perturbation theory, we show that the equilibrium of the in-phase mode can be made unstable if the delay is long enough and if the coupling strength is large enough, resulting in a Hopf bifurcation. We then employ Lindstedt’s method to compute the amplitude of the limit cycle as a function of the time delay. This work is motivated by medical applications involving noninvasive localized drug delivery via microbubbles.  相似文献

Summary We present a framework for analysing arbitrary networks of identical dissipative oscillators assuming weak coupling. Using the symmetry of the network, we find dynamically invariant regions in the phase space existing purely by virtue of their spatio-temporal symmetry (the temporal symmetry corresponds to phase shifts). We focus on arrays which are symmetric under all permutations of the oscillators (this arises with global coupling) and also on rings of oscillators with both directed and bidirectional coupling. For these examples, we classify all spatio-temporal symmetries, including limit cycle solutions such as in-phase oscillation and those involving phase shifts. We also show the existence of “submaximal” limit cycle solutions under generic conditions. The canonical invariant region of the phase space is defined and used to investigate the dynamics. We discuss how the limit cycles lose and gain stability, and how symmetry can give rise to structurally stable heteroclinic cycles, a phenomenon not generically found in systems without symmetry. We also investigate how certain types of coupling (including linear coupling between oscillators with symmetric waveforms) can give rise to degenerate behaviour, where the oscillators decouple into smaller groups.  相似文献

This paper investigates the dynamics of a new model of two coupled relaxation oscillators. The model replaces the usual DDE (differential-delay equation) formulation with a discrete-time approach with jumps. Existence, bifurcation and stability of in-phase periodic motions is studied. Simple periodic motions, which involve exactly two jumps per period, are found to have large plateaus in parameter space. These plateaus are separated by regions of complicated dynamics, reminiscent of the Devil’s Staircase. Stability of motions in the in-phase manifold are contrasted with stability of motions in the full phase space.  相似文献

We consider a system of two coupled Van der Pol-Duffing oscillators with Huygens coupling as an appropriate model of two mechanical oscillators connected to a movable platform via a spring. We examine the complicated dynamics of the system and study its multistable behavior. In particular, we reveal the co-existence of several chaotic regimes and study the structure of the associated riddled basins.  相似文献

A system of two non-linear differential equations is considered that simulates the dynamics of two completely identical weakly coupled oscillators both in the case of dissipative and active coupling. The system of normal modes is investigated. All the self-similar periodic solutions, including the asymmetric solutions describing the natural ascillations of oscillators with dissimilar amplitude's, are found analytically. The stability is investigated as well as the local bifurcations of the self-similar cycles when there is a change in stability. In particular, the possibility of the creation of two-dimensional invariant tori is pointed out. In the case of active coupling, it is shown that the basic version of the natural oscillations is a stable antiphase cycle that was observed in Huygens experiments.  相似文献

We study the periodic forced response of a system of two limit cycle oscillators that interact with each other via a time delayed coupling. Detailed bifurcation diagrams in the parameter space of the forcing amplitude and forcing frequency are obtained for various interesting limits using numerical and analytical means. In particular, the effects of the coupling strength, the natural frequency spread of the two oscillators and the time delay parameter on the size and nature of the entrainment domain are delineated. For an appropriate choice of time delay, synchronization can occur with infinitesimal forcing amplitudes even at off-resonant driving. The system is also found to display a nonlinear response on certain critical contours in the space of the coupling strength and time delay. Numerical simulations with a large number of coupled driven oscillators display similar behavior. Time delay offers a novel tuning knob for controlling the system response over a wide range of frequencies and this may have important practical applications.  相似文献

In this work, we investigate the synchronization in oscillators with conjugate coupling in which oscillators interact via dissimilar variables. The synchronous dynamics and its stability are investigated theoretically and numerically. We find that the synchronous dynamics and its stability are dependent on both coupling scheme and the coupling constant. We also find that the synchronization may be independent of the number of oscillators. Numerical demonstrations with Lorenz oscillators are provided.  相似文献

The main goal of this research is to examine any peculiarities and special modes observed in the dynamics of a system of two nonlinearly coupled pendulums. In addition to steady states, an in-phase rotation limit cycle is proved to exist in the system with both damping and constant external force. This rotation mode is numerically shown to become unstable for certain values of the coupling strength. We also present an asymptotic theory developed for an infinitely small dissipation, which explains why the in-phase rotation limit cycle loses its stability. Boundaries of the instability domain mentioned above are found analytically. As a result of numerical studies, a whole range of the coupling parameter values is found for the case where the system has more than one rotation limit cycle. There exist not only a stable in-phase cycle, but also two out-of phase ones: a stable rotation limit cycle and an unstable one. Bistability of the limit periodic mode is, therefore, established for the system of two nonlinearly coupled pendulums. Bifurcations that lead to the appearance and disappearance of the out-ofphase limit regimes are discussed as well.  相似文献

Recently, the coupling time delay has been considered as the source of the occurrence of the phase-flip bifurcation in time-delay coupled system. But the analytical results of how the coupling time delay affects this phenomenon is still lacking. In this paper, we consider a pair of identical tri-neuron network coupled with time delay. By using the symmetric bifurcation theory of delay differential equations combined with representation theory of Lie groups, we investigate the spatio-temporal patterns of Hopf bifurcating periodic oscillations induced by the coupling time delay. The explicit intervals of delay and the regions in the plane of the coupling strength and the gain of the inherent response function for the existence of synchronized in-phase or anti-phase oscillation are obtained. Our study show that the coupling time delay does not affect the spatio-temporal patterns of the individual neural loop but it has the significant impact on the spatio-temporal patterns between the two loops. These analytic results are then verified by numerical simulations.  相似文献

Summary When several oscillators are coupled together and the parameters of their coupling are varied, the oscillators pass through so-called phase-locked regimes. In physical terms this means that the oscillators tend to synchronize their motion. To describe this phenomenon, we frame the concepts ofpartial phase andphase-locking. A partial phase of a toral flow puts emphasis on how orbits of the flow drift around the torus in some fixed direction. The partial phase is locked if it grows in time along some orbit slower than any linear function. When a toral flow is given by a trigonometric polynomial, its phase-locked regions are quite narrow. With the coupling amplitude increasing, each region grows in width as some power of the amplitude. That power can be calculated in terms of both the partial phase and degree of the trigonometric polynomial.  相似文献

We present a mechanism for synchronizing time delay systems using one way coupling with a variable delay in coupling that is reset at finite intervals. We present the analysis of the error dynamics that helps to isolate regions of stability of the synchronized state in the parameter space of interest for single and multiple delays. We supplement this by numerical simulations in a standard time delay system like Mackey Glass system. This method has the advantage that it can be adjusted to be delay or anticipatory in synchronization with a time which is independent of the system delay. We demonstrate the use of this method in communication using the bi channel scheme. We show that since the synchronizing channel carries information from transmitter only at intervals of reset time, it is not susceptible to an easy reconstruction.  相似文献

The paper addresses the problem of complex regional economic growth by using nonlinear Keynesian model with focusing on direct foreign investments effects. We investigate the dynamics of the model for the broad range of parameters which, in particular, contains the parameter values obtained recently by econometric analysis of the data for economic growth in China. For the single-region model we give conditions for which the dynamics of the model will be chaotic or regular. The parameters which prevent the economic stagnation are indicated. Further, we consider the model for two regions with a common trade as a coupling factor. The conditions are given for the two trading systems to exhibit chaotic synchronization, in-phase and out-of-phase behavior.  相似文献

We study networks of coupled phase oscillators and show that network architecture can force relations between average frequencies of the oscillators. The main tool of our analysis is the coupled cell theory developed by Stewart, Golubitsky, Pivato, and Torok, which provides precise relations between network architecture and the corresponding class of ODEs in RM and gives conditions for the flow-invariance of certain polydiagonal subspaces for all coupled systems with a given network architecture. The theory generalizes the notion of fixed-point subspaces for subgroups of network symmetries and directly extends to networks of coupled phase oscillators. For systems of coupled phase oscillators (but not generally for ODEs in RM, where M ≥ 2), invariant polydiagonal subsets of codimension one arise naturally and strongly restrict the network dynamics. We say that two oscillators i and j coevolve if the polydiagonal θi = θj is flow-invariant, and show that the average frequencies of these oscillators must be equal. Given a network architecture, it is shown that coupled cell theory provides a direct way of testing how coevolving oscillators form collections with closely related dynamics. We give a generalization of these results to synchronous clusters of phase oscillators using quotient networks, and discuss implications for networks of spiking cells and those connected through buffers that implement coupling dynamics.  相似文献

We solve a long-standing stability problem for the Kuramoto model of coupled oscillators. This system has attracted mathematical attention, in part because of its applications in fields ranging from neuroscience to condensed-matter physics, and also because it provides a beautiful connection between nonlinear dynamics and statistical mechanics. The model consists of a large population of phase oscillators with all-to-all sinusoidal coupling. The oscillators' intrinsic frequencies are randomly distributed across the population according to a prescribed probability density, here taken to be unimodal and symmetric about its mean. As the coupling between the oscillators is increased, the system spontaneously synchronizes: The oscillators near the center of the frequency distribution lock their phases together and run at the same frequency, while those in the tails remain unlocked and drift at different frequencies. Although this "partially locked" state has been observed in simulations for decades, its stability has never been analyzed mathematically. Part of the difficulty is in formulating a reasonable infinite-N limit of the model. Here we describe such a continuum limit, and prove that the corresponding partially locked state is, in fact, neutrally stable, contrary to what one might have expected. The possible implications of this result are discussed. An erratum to this article is available at .  相似文献

This paper investigates the generation of complex bursting patterns in the Duffing oscillator with time-delayed feedback. We present the bursting patterns, including symmetric fold–fold bursting and symmetric Hopf–Hopf bursting when periodic forcing changes slowly. We make an analysis of the system bifurcations and dynamics as a function of the delayed feedback and the periodic forcing. We calculate the conditions of fold bifurcation and Hopf bifurcation as well as its stability related to external forcing and delay. We also identify two regimes of bursting depending on the magnitude of the delay itself and the strength of time delayed coupling in the model. Our results show that the dynamics of bursters in delayed system are quite different from those in systems without any delay. In particular, delay can be used as a tuning parameter to modulate dynamics of bursting corresponding to the different type. Furthermore, we use transformed phase space analysis to explore the evolution details of the delayed bursting behavior. Also some numerical simulations are included to illustrate the validity of our study.  相似文献

This paper presents an investigation of dynamics of the coupled nonidentical FHN models with synaptic connection, which can exhibit rich bifurcation behavior with variation of the coupling strength. With the time delay being introduced, the coupled neurons may display a transition from the original chaotic motions to periodic ones, which is accompanied by complex bifurcation scenario. At the same time, synchronization of the coupled neurons is studied in terms of their mean frequencies. We also find that the small time delay can induce new period windows with the coupling strength increasing. Moreover, it is found that synchronization of the coupled neurons can be achieved in some parameter ranges and related to their bifurcation transition. Bifurcation diagrams are obtained numerically or analytically from the mathematical model and the parameter regions of different behavior are clarified.  相似文献

In this paper, the synchronization of certain degenerate optical parametric oscillators is investigated in detail. Complete and/or partial synchronization can be reached when linear controller, constructed by the real part or imaginary part of the subharmonic mode, is imposed on the chaotic degenerate optical parametric oscillators with appropriate coupling intensity. The Lyapunov exponents under different coupling coefficients are calculated to find the critical condition for complete synchronization. Transition from complete synchronization to partial synchronization is observed when nonlinear coupling is introduced into the two chaotic oscillators. It is found that synchronization of chaotic oscillators keeps robust when the intensity of the nonlinear coupling is less than the intensity of the linear coupling; the complete synchronization state is destructed and transient period for partial synchronization is in certain delay when the intensity of the nonlinear coupling is beyond the intensity of the linear coupling.  相似文献

The dynamics of an electret-based, capacitive, vibration-to-electric micro-converter (energy scavenger) is described by a set of ODEs where a second-order equation is coupled to two first-order equations through strongly-nonlinear terms. The nonlinear regimes of forced oscillations are analyzed with a semi-analytical approach, finding that the system exhibits features typical of Duffing-like nonlinear oscillators, such as jumps and multivalued frequency-response curves, with both stable and unstable periodic solutions. It is also proved that, for appropriate combinations of parameters, the system acts as a linear, damped oscillator, independently of the oscillation amplitude: in this case, the nonlinear coupling term reduces to a viscous-like term, physically interpretable as electromechanical damping.  相似文献
