We explore electron dynamics in molecular (CD4)(1061) clusters and elemental Xen (n=249-2171) clusters, responding to ultraintense (intensity I=10(16)-10(19) W cm(-2)) laser fields. Molecular dynamics simulations (including magnetic field and relativistic effects) and analyses of high-energy electron dynamics and nuclear ion dynamics in a cluster interacting with a Gaussian shaped laser field (frequency 0.35 fs(-1), photon energy 1.44 eV, phase 0, temporal width 25 fs) elucidated the time dependence of inner ionization, the formation of a nanoplasma of unbound electrons within the cluster or its vicinity, and of outer ionization. We determined the cluster size and the laser intensity dependence of these three sequential-parallel electronic processes. The characteristic times for cluster inner ionization (tau(ii)) and for outer ionization (tau(oi)) fall in the femtosecond time domain, i.e., tau(ii)=2-9 fs and tau(oi)=4-15 fs for (CD4)(1061), tau(ii)=7-30 fs and tau(oi)=5-13 fs for Xe(n) (n=479,1061), with both tau(ii) and tau(oi) decreasing with increasing I, in accord with the barrier suppression ionization mechanism for inner ionization of the constituents and the cluster barrier suppression ionization mechanism for outer ionization. The positive delay times Deltatau(OI) between outer and inner ionization (e.g., Deltatau(OI)=6.5 fs for Xen at I=10(16) W cm(-2) and Deltatau(OI)=0.2 fs for (CD4)(1061) at I=10(19) W cm(-2)) demonstrate that the outer/inner ionization processes are sequential. For (CD4)(1061), tau(ii)tau(oi), reflecting on the energetic hierarchy in the ionization of the Xe atoms. Quasiresonance contributions to the outer ionization of the nanoplasma were established, as manifested in the temporal oscillations in the inner/outer ionization levels, and in the center of mass of the nanoplasma electrons. The formation characteristics, dynamics, and response of the nanoplasma in molecular or elemental clusters were addressed. The nanoplasma is positively charged, with a high-average electron density [rho(P)=(2-3)10(22) cm(-3)], being characterized by high-average electron energies epsilon(av) (e.g., in Xe(1061) clusters epsilon(av)=54 eV at I=10(16) W cm(-2) and epsilon(av)=0.56-0.37 keV at I=10(18) W cm(-2), with epsilon(av) proportional, variant I(1/2)). Beyond the cluster boundary the average electron energy markedly increases, reaching electron energies in the range of 1.2-40 keV for outer ionization of Xe(n) (n=249-2171) clusters. The nanoplasma exhibits spatial inhomogeneity and angular anisotropy induced by the laser field. Femtosecond time scales are predicted for the nanoplasma production (rise times 7-3 fs), for the decay (decay times approximately 5 fs), and for the persistence time (30-10 fs) of a transient nanoplasma at I=10(17)-10(18) W cm(-2). At lower intensities of I=10(16) W cm(-2) a persistent nanoplasma with a "long" lifetime of > 50 fs will prevail.  相似文献

Despite the central role of light absorption and the subsequent generation of free charge carriers in organic and hybrid organic-inorganic photovoltaics, the precise process of this initial photoconversion is still debated. We employ a novel broadband (UV-Vis-NIR) transient absorption spectroscopy setup to probe charge generation and recombination in the thin films of the recently suggested hybrid material combination poly(3-hexylthiophene)/silicon (P3HT/Si) with 40 fs time resolution. Our approach allows for monitoring the time evolution of the relevant transient species under various excitation intensities and excitation wavelengths. Both in regioregular (RR) and regiorandom (RRa) P3HT, we observe an instant (<40 fs) creation of singlet excitons, which subsequently dissociate to form polarons in 140 fs. The quantum yield of polaron formation through dissociation of delocalized excitons is significantly enhanced by adding Si as an electron acceptor, revealing ultrafast electron transfer from P3HT to Si. P3HT/Si films with aggregated RR-P3HT are found to provide free charge carriers in planar as well as in bulk heterojunctions, and losses are due to nongeminate recombination. In contrast for RRa-P3HT/Si, geminate recombination of bound carriers is observed as the dominant loss mechanism. Site-selective excitation by variation of pump wavelength uncovers an energy transfer from P3HT coils to aggregates with a 1/e transfer time of 3 ps and reveals a factor of 2 more efficient polaron formation using aggregated RR-P3HT compared to disordered RRa-P3HT. Therefore, we find that polymer structural order rather than excess energy is the key criterion for free charge generation in hybrid P3HT/Si solar cells.  相似文献

Femtosecond time-resolved soft x-ray transient absorption spectroscopy based on a high-order harmonic generation source is used to investigate the dissociative ionization of CH(2)Br(2) induced by 800 nm strong-field irradiation. At moderate laser peak intensities (2.0 x 10(14) Wcm(2)), strong-field ionization is accompanied by ultrafast C-Br bond dissociation, producing both neutral Br ((2)P(32)) and Br(*) ((2)P(12)) atoms together with the CH(2)Br(+) fragment ion. The measured rise times for Br and Br(*) are 130+/-22 fs and 74+/-10 fs, respectively. The atomic bromine quantum state distribution shows that the BrBr(*) population ratio is 8.1+/-3.8 and that the Br (2)P(32) state is not aligned. The observed product distribution and the time scales of the photofragment appearances suggest that multiple field-dressed potential energy surfaces are involved in the dissociative ionization process. At higher laser peak intensities (6.2 x 10(14) Wcm(2)), CH(2)Br(2) (+) undergoes sequential ionization to form the metastable CH(2)Br(2) (2+) dication. These results demonstrate the potential of core-level probing with high-order harmonic transient absorption spectroscopy for studying ultrafast molecular dynamics.  相似文献

The fragmentation pattern of CH4 was experimentally studied at an intensity of approximately 10(14) W/cm2 with laser durations varying from 8 to 110 fs. When the laser duration was 8 fs, only the primarily fragmental CH3+ ion was observed in addition to the parent CH4+ ion. When the laser duration was 30 fs, small fragmental CH2+ and H+ ions appeared. When the laser duration was 110 fs, some doubly charged ions were also observed in addition to the abundant singly charged ions. The large mass spectra difference demonstrated that the pulse duration had a strong effect on the fragmentation of the parent ion produced in the single ionization. The effect of laser intensity on the fragmentation of CH4+ was also studied for few-cycle femtosecond laser pulses. The results demonstrated that the first-return recollision between the rescattered electron and the parent ion played a significant role in the fragmentation dynamics of the parent ion. Depending on the ion-electron impact energy, the recollision excited the parent ion to a dissociated state or doubly charged state. The experimentally observed singly charged fragmental ions resulted from the recollision-induced dissociation of CH4+ or the Coulomb explosion of CH(4)2+.  相似文献

By means of femtosecond pump and probe technique we investigated the temporal evolution of the photodissociation of excited potassium clusters (3 ≤ n ≤ 9). For three different excitation energies E = 1.47 eV, 2.00 eV, and 2.94 eV we were able to measure the transient multiphoton ionization spectra. In the frame of a simple energy level model the photodissociation process could be analyzed. Fragmentation time constants are estimated to be cluster size- and energydependent in the range of 200 fs up to 10 ps. The results are compared with data received from similar experiments on Nan clusters.  相似文献

A femtosecond pump-probe technique was employed to study the dissociation dynamics of sulfur dioxide and sulfur dioxide clusters in real time. Dissociation is initiated by a multiphoton scheme that populates the E state. The SO(2) (+) transient is fit to a biexponential decay comprising a fast and a slow component of 230 fs and 8 ps, respectively. The SO(+) transient consists of a growth component of 225 fs as well as a subsequent decay of 373 fs. The pump-probe response obtained from the monomer clearly shows the predissociative cleavage of a S-O bond. Upon cluster formation, a sequential increase in the fast decay component is observed for increasing cluster size, extending to 435 fs for (SO(2))(4) (+). The transient response of cluster dissociation products SO(SO(2))(n) (+), where n=1-3, reflects no growth component indicating that formation proceeds through the ion state. Therefore, cluster formation results in a caging effect, which impedes the dissociation process. Further direct evidence for our proposed mechanism is obtained by a technique that employs a comparison of the amplitude coefficients of each respective component of the fit. This method makes possible the determination of branching ratios of competing relaxation processes and thereby the influence of cluster formation on each can be resolved. The caging effect is attributed to a steric hindrance placed on the SO(2) chromophore, preventing it from attaining a linear geometry necessary for dissociation.  相似文献

We have calculated the structural and energetic properties of neutral and ionic (singly charged anionic and cationic) semiconductor binary silicon-germanium clusters Si(m)Ge(n) for s = m + n ≤ 12 using the density functional theory (DFT-B3LYP) and coupled cluster [CCSD(T)] methods with Pople's 6-311++G(3df, 3pd) basis set. Neutral and anionic clusters share similar ground state structures for s = 3-7, independent of the stoichiometry and atom locations, but start to deviate at s = 8. The relative energetic stability of the calculated ground state structures among possible isomers has been analyzed through a bond strength propensity model where the pair interactions of Si-Si, Si-Ge, and Ge-Ge are competing. Electron affinities, ionization potentials, energy gaps between the highest and lowest occupied molecular orbitals (HOMO-LUMO gaps), and cluster mixing energies were calculated and analyzed. Overall, for a fixed s, the vertical ionization potential increases as the number of silicon atoms m increases, while the vertical electron affinity shows a dip at m = 2. As s increases, the ionization potentials increase from s = 2 to s = 3 and then decrease slowly to s = 8. The mixing energies for neutral and ionic clusters are all negative, indicating that the binary clusters are more stable than pure elemental clusters. Except for s = 4 and 8, cationic clusters are more stable than anionic ones and, thus, are more likely to be observed in experiments.  相似文献

The evolution of the isolated pyrrole molecule has been followed after excitation in the 265-217 nm range by using femtosecond time delayed ionization. The transients collected in the whole excitation range show the vanishing of the ionization signal in the femtosecond time scale, caused by the relaxation along a πσ(?) type state (3s a(1)←π 1a(2)), which is the lowest excited electronic state of the molecule. This surface is dissociative along the NH bond, yielding a 15 ± 3 fs lifetime that reflects the loss of the ionization cross-section induced by the ultrafast wavepacket motion. Although a weak πσ(?) absorption is detected, the state is mainly reached through internal conversion of the higher bright ππ(?) transitions, which occurs with a 19 ± 3 fs lifetime. In addition to its resonant excitation, the intense ππ(?) absorption extending in the 220-190 nm interval is also out-of-resonance populated at energies far to the red from its absorption onset. This coherent adiabatic excitation of the ππ(?) transition should follow the excitation pulse (coherent population return effect), but instead the system relaxes toward the lower πσ(?) surface through a conical intersection during the interaction time, leading to the population of πσ(?) state at wavelengths as long as 265 nm. According to the observed behavior, the time evolution of the system in the full excitation range studied is modeled by a coherent treatment that provides key insights on the photophysical properties of the molecule.  相似文献

We report the time-resolved recombination of photodissociated IBr-(CO2)n (n = 5-10) clusters following excitation to the dissociative IBr-A' 2Pi12 state of the chromophore via a 180 fs, 795 nm laser pulse. Dissociation from the A' state of the bare anion results in I- and Br products. Upon solvation with CO2, the IBr- chromophore regains near-IR absorption only after recombination and vibrational relaxation on the ground electronic state. The recombination time was determined by using a delayed femtosecond probe laser, at the same wavelength as the pump, and detecting ionic photoproducts of the recombined IBr- cluster ions. In sharp contrast to previous studies involving solvated I2-, the observed recombination times for IBr-(CO2)n increase dramatically with increasing cluster size, from 12 ps for n = 5 to 900 ps for n = 8,10. The nanosecond recombination times are especially surprising in that the overall recombination probability for these cluster ions is unity. Over the range of 5-10 solvent molecules, calculations show that the solvent is very asymmetrically distributed, localized around the Br end of the IBr- chromophore. It is proposed that this asymmetric solvation delays the recombination of the dissociating IBr-, in part through a solvent-induced well in the A' state that (for n = 8,10) traps the evolving complex. Extensive electronic structure calculations and nonadiabatic molecular dynamics simulations provide a framework to understand this unexpected behavior.  相似文献

Iminodiacetic acid (IDA)-1,2-epoxy-9-decene has been synthesized and covalently linked to the surface of porous silicon wafer through a photochemical reaction. The negatively charged carboxylic acid groups on the porous silicon wafer are capable of binding oppositely charged species from sample solutions through electrostatic interactions. This allows the removal of contaminants prior to matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry (MALDI-MS) by simply washing the porous silicon surface. The carboxylic acid end groups on porous silicon can be used to selectively bind and concentrate target species in sample solutions. Furthermore, Fe(3+)-IDA-derivatized porous silicon was prepared to specifically and effectively concentrate phosphopeptides from the tryptic digests of phosphoproteins, followed by MALDI-MS analysis.  相似文献

The generation of ions from silicon substrates in surface-assisted laser desorption ionization (SALDI) has been studied using silicon substrates prepared and etched by a variety of different methods. The different substrates were compared with respect to their ability to generate peptide mass spectra using standard liquid sample deposition. The desorption/ionization processes were studied using gas-phase analyte deposition. Mass spectra were obtained from compounds with gas-phase basicities above 850 kJmol and with molecular weights up to 370 Da. UV, VIS, and IR lasers were used for desorption. Ionization efficiencies were measured as a function of laser fluence and accumulated laser irradiance dose. Solvent vapors were added to the ion source and shown to result in fundamental laser-induced chemical and physical changes to the substrate surfaces. It is demonstrated that both the chemical properties of the substrate surface and the presence of a highly disordered structure with a high concentration of "dangling bonds" or deep gap states are required for efficient ion generation. In particular, amorphous silicon is shown to be an excellent SALDI substrate with ionization efficiencies as high as 1%, while hydrogen-passivated amorphous silicon is SALDI inactive. Based on the results, a novel model for SALDI ion generation is proposed with the following reaction steps: (1) the adsorption of neutral analyte molecules on the SALDI surface with formation of a hydrogen bond to surface Si-OH groups, (2) the electronic excitation of the substrate to form free electron/hole pairs (their relaxation results in trapped positive charges in near-surface deep gap states, causing an increase in the acidity of the Si-OH groups and proton transfer to the analyte molecules), and (3) the thermally activated dissociation of the analyte ions from the surface via a "loose" transition state.  相似文献

The cyclization reaction of the photochromic diarylethene derivative 1,2-bis(2,4-dimethyl-5-phenyl-3-thienyl)perfluorocyclopentene was studied in its single crystal phase with femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy. The transient absorption measurements were performed with a robust acquisition scheme that explicitly exploits the photoreversibility of the molecular system and monitors the reversibility conditions. The crystalline system demonstrated 3 × 10(4) repeatable cycles before significant degradation was observed. Immediately following photoexcitation, the excited state absorption associated with the open-ring conformation undergoes a large spectral shift with a time constant of approximately 200 fs. Following this evolution on the excited state potential energy surface, the ring closure occurs with a time constant of 5.3 ps, which is significantly slower than previously reported measurements for similar derivatives in the solution phase. Time resolved electron diffraction studies were used to further demonstrate the assignment of the transient absorption dynamics to the ring closing reaction. The mechanistic details of the ring closing are discussed in the context of prior computational work along with a vibrational mode analysis using density functional theory to give some insight into the primary motions involved in the ring closing reaction.  相似文献

Rotationally resolved, velocity distributions for desorbed O2 molecules formed by O-atom recombination on the surface of a polycrystalline Ag surface are reported. Surface O atoms are generated by oxygen permeation through a 0.25-mm-thick Ag foil heated to 1020 K. Desorbing O2 molecules are probed by (2 + 1) resonant multiphoton ionization via the C 3Pig (3ssigma), v' = 2 <-- <-- X 3Sigmag-, v" = 0 transition and time-of-flight mass spectrometry. Measured velocity distributions are near Maxwell-Boltzmann and yield average translational energies which are significantly lower than the surface temperature ([Et]/2kB approximately 515 K) and essentially independent of rotational excitation. Comparison of the observed C-X (2,0) resonantly enhanced multiphoton ionization spectrum with spectral simulations suggests that the v" = 0 rotational state distribution is more consistent with the surface temperature, but spectral congestion and apparent intensity perturbations prevent a more quantitative analysis. The calculated, sticking curves show a small barrier energy barrier (approximately 10 meV) beyond which sticking decreases. These observations are consistent with low energy desorption and adsorption pathways involving a weakly bound molecular O2 precursor.  相似文献

The analysis of self-assembled supramolecular clusters held together by metal-ligand interactions is a relatively new area in mass spectrometry. These complexes may have molecular weights exceeding several kDa, are often highly charged and their composition is most sensitive to their chemical environment. Electrospray ionization appears to be the ionization technique of choice for their mass spectral characterization. The analysis (positive and negative ion detection mode) of the prototype compound [Ti4L4]8? (L = a catechol-based tris-bidentate ligand; MW of cluster = 2293 u) using a Paul trap mass analyzer is reported. The combination of electrospray ionization and high resolution ion trap technology is a powerful tool which provides the unambiguous solution state characterization of this supramolecular cluster. The results are correlated with the known solid state structure of the cluster and reactions previously reported for mononuclear Ti(IV) catecholates.  相似文献

We applied theoretical models and molecular dynamics simulations to explore extreme multielectron ionization in Xe(n) clusters (n=2-2171, initial cluster radius R(0)=2.16-31.0 A) driven by ultraintense infrared Gaussian laser fields (peak intensity I(M)=10(15)-10(20) W cm(-2), temporal pulse length tau=10-100 fs, and frequency nu=0.35 fs(-1)). Cluster compound ionization was described by three processes of inner ionization, nanoplasma formation, and outer ionization. Inner ionization gives rise to high ionization levels (with the formation of [Xe(q+)](n) with q=2-36), which are amenable to experimental observation. The cluster size and laser intensity dependence of the inner ionization levels are induced by a superposition of barrier suppression ionization (BSI) and electron impact ionization (EII). The BSI was induced by a composite field involving the laser field and an inner field of the ions and electrons, which manifests ignition enhancement and screening retardation effects. EII was treated using experimental cross sections, with a proper account of sequential impact ionization. At the highest intensities (I(M)=10(18)-10(20) W cm(-2)) inner ionization is dominated by BSI. At lower intensities (I(M)=10(15)-10(16) W cm(-2)), where the nanoplasma is persistent, the EII contribution to the inner ionization yield is substantial. It increases with increasing the cluster size, exerts a marked effect on the increase of the [Xe(q+)](n) ionization level, is most pronounced in the cluster center, and manifests a marked increase with increasing the pulse length (i.e., becoming the dominant ionization channel (56%) for Xe(2171) at tau=100 fs). The EII yield and the ionization level enhancement decrease with increasing the laser intensity. The pulse length dependence of the EII yield at I(M)=10(15)-10(16) W cm(-2) establishes an ultraintense laser pulse length control mechanism of extreme ionization products.  相似文献

The vibrational spectroscopy of a glycine molecule adsorbed on a silicon surface is studied computationally, using different clusters as models for the surface. Harmonic frequencies are computed using density functional theory (DFT) with the B3LYP functional. Anharmonic frequency calculations are carried out using vibrational self-consistent field (VSCF) algorithms on an improved PM3 potential energy surface. The results are compared with experiments on Glycine@Si(1 0 0)-2 × 1.

The main findings are: (1) Agreement of the computed frequencies with experiment improves with cluster size. (2) The anharmonic calculations are generally in better agreement with experiment than the harmonic ones. The improvements due to anharmonicity are most significant for hydrogenic stretching. (3) An important part of the anharmonic effects is due to anharmonic coupling between different normal modes of the system. (4) The anharmonic coupling between glycine vibrational modes is much larger than the anharmonic coupling between glycine and “phonon” (cluster) modes.

Implications of the results for surface vibrational spectroscopy are discussed.  相似文献

Time evolution of mass distribution of argon cluster ions has been studied in pulsed jets (pulse duration≈0.4 ms) by retarding potential method. The ejection of cluster ions of the order of 180 atoms from cluster ions of the order of 500 atoms has been revealed. The ejection has a threshold character as a function of the time elapsed after electron impact ionization. The threshold time was about 20 μs. Delayed non-thermal fragmentation of the cluster ions testifies that the self-trapped ion, formed in argon clusters as a result of ionization, can live for a long time in its excited state without dissipation of the excess energy to the cluster. This ion should be located on the surface of the cluster. Energetic analysis of the fragmentation is consistent with the size of the ejected clusters. A model of the observed time evolution of the delayed fragmentation is herein proposed.  相似文献

The dissociative ionization of deuterium chloride (DCl) has been investigated by employing femtosecond laser pulses at 805 nm. The product branching ratio D(+)/Cl(+) of the fragments D(+) and Cl(+) is strongly affected by the chirp alpha of the laser pulses. The ratio can be controlled by a factor of 3 ranging from D(+)/Cl(+) = 0.7 at alpha = -800 fs(2) to D(+)/Cl(+) = 1.9 at alpha = +150 fs(2). The observation can be rationalized by a model where negative chirp favors intra-electronic state excitation, and positive chirp favors inter-electronic state excitation in the dissociation of the molecular ion. Complementary experiments on hydrogen chloride (HCl) are discussed.  相似文献

Naphthalene was ionized with 130 fs pulses of different polarizations at 1.4 microm. In contrast to the results of ionization by 0.8 microm pulses, fragmentation was dramatically suppressed and naphthalene molecular ions of up to 3+ were produced. The use of this simple model of ionization and large electron kinetic energy enabled us to study the electron-recollision-induced fragmentation and/or double ionization more precisely. The failure of the theoretical prediction of ion yield for the case of naphthalene prevented us from judging the electron recollision solely by a comparison with theoretical curves. Therefore, the effects of laser polarization on the ratios between differently charged states and between molecular and total ions were compared at the same effective (peak) intensity instead of average intensity. Comparison under the same effective intensity enabled us to identify the effects of ellipticity clearly. Evidence of the electron recollision was found in the doubly charged molecular ion formation but not in the fragmentation. The single-electron recollision event was not sufficient to induce fragmentation because of its low energy transfer efficiency. We concluded that the fragmentation originated in the unstable nature of the highly charged molecular ion itself and in the Coulomb explosion in the case of naphthalene.  相似文献

The dynamics of an excess electron in size-selected methanol clusters is studied via pump-probe spectroscopy with resolution of approximately 120 fs. Following excitation, the excess electron undergoes internal conversion back to the ground state with lifetimes of 260-175 fs in (CH3OH)n- (n=145-535) and 280-230 fs in (CD3OD)n- (n=210-390), decreasing with increasing cluster size. The clusters then undergo vibrational relaxation on the ground state on a time scale of 760+/-250 fs. The excited state lifetimes for (CH3OH)n- clusters extrapolate to a value of 157+/-25 fs in the limit of infinite cluster size.  相似文献
