We consider two quantum coherent conductors interacting weakly via long range Coulomb forces. We describe the interaction in terms of two-particle collisions described by a two-particle scattering matrix. As an example we determine the transmission probability and correlations in a two-particle scattering experiment and find that the results can be expressed in terms of the density-of-states matrices of the noninteracting scatterers.  相似文献

An alternative approach to the usual perturbative S-matrix evaluation of quantum field theories is presented which is nonperturbative and provides full space-time resolution. We study the dynamical development of the force between two fermion wave packets for the Yukawa system. The spatial distribution of the virtual bosons that act as mediators of the force can be analyzed along with the fermionic densities. Using a potential function for the fermion-fermion interaction is a good approximation to the field theoretical calculations when the Fock space is restricted to only one boson, but in the full quantum field theory the fermion-fermion force is enhanced by higher-order multiboson processes. Furthermore, the normally attractive fermion-fermion Yukawa force can, in principle, be manipulated to even be repulsive if the momentum modes available to the virtual bosons are restricted.  相似文献

Photoemission electron microscopy is used to study the thermal decay of Ag islands grown epitaxially on Si(001) surfaces. (2 x 3) Ag reconstructed zones, due to migrating Ag atoms supplied to the surface by the decaying islands, surround each of the islands. The shape of these reconstructed zones depends on the degree of diffusion isotropy in the system. We demonstrate that the imaging of these reconstructed "isocoverage zones" constitutes a unique experimental method for directly observing diffusion fields in epitaxial systems. We describe the dynamics of the thermal decay of the islands and the isozones in the context of a continuum diffusion model.  相似文献

Using canonical quantization we find the Virasoro centre for a class of conformally invariant interacting Wess-Zumino-Witten theories. The theories have a group structure similar to that of Toda theories (both abelian and non-abelian) but the usual Toda constraints on the coupling constants are relaxed and the theories are not necessarily integrable. The general formula for the Virasoro centre is compared to that derived by BRST methods in the Toda case, and helps to explain the structure of the latter.  相似文献

This paper takes a nontraditional look at micropolar media. It emphasizes the idea that it may become necessary to abandon the concept of material particles if one wishes to describe micropolar matter in which structural changes or chemical reactions occur. Based on recent results presented by Ivanova and Vilchevskaya (2016) we will proceed as follows. First we shall summarize the theory required for handling such situations in terms of a single macroscopic continuum. Mne of its main features are new balance equations for the local tensors of inertia containing production terms. The new balances and in particular the productions will then be interpreted mesoscopically by taking the inner structure of micropolar matter into account. As an alternative way of understanding the new relations we shall also attempt to use the concepts of the theory of mixtures. However, we shall see by example that this line of reasoning has its limitations: A binary mixture of electrically charged species subjected to gravity will segregate. Hence it is impossible to use a single continuum for modeling this kind of motion. However, in this context it will also become clear that the traditional Lagrangian way of describing motion of structurally transforming materials is no longer adequate and should be superseded by the Eulerian approach.  相似文献

It is shown that in one-dimensional mesoscopic structures the electron-electron interaction leads to qualitatively new effects in the dynamic conductivity which are best manifested in the frequency dependence of the impedance. Interelectronic repulsion increases the resistance and narrows the resonance dips of the resistance at transit frequencies. Interelectronic attraction gives rise to resonance peaks of the resistance against a high-conductivity background. These effects are due to the reflection of bosonic excitations of a Luttinger liquid from the boundaries of a quantum channel with current-lead electrodes and to resonances of these excitations over the length of the channel. We investigate magnetic-field asymmetries in the linear transport of a mesoscopic conductor interacting with its environment. Interestingly, we find that the interaction between the two systems causes an asymmetry only when the environment is out of equilibrium. We elucidate our general result with the help of a quantum dot capacitively coupled to a quantum Hall conductor and discuss the asymmetry dependence on the environment bias and induced dephasing.  相似文献

We develop a nanoscale dynamical mean-field theory (nano-DMFT) to deal with strong Coulomb interaction effects in physical systems that are intermediate in size between atoms and bulk materials, taking into account the tunneling into nearby electrodes. Focusing on a simplified treelike geometry, the usual DMFT loop simply stops when the finite lattice is fully covered, starting with an initial seed provided by the electronic environment at the boundary. To illustrate this nano-DMFT, we investigate the disappearance of the quasiparticle weight in a correlated nano object near the Mott transition. In contrast to thermally driven classical phase transitions, quantum effects lead to unexpected oscillations of the order parameter, related to the interference of coherent renormalized quasiparticles. This behavior also implies a spatially inhomogeneous Mott localization process at the nanoscale.  相似文献

Near the horizon of a black brane in Anti-de Sitter (AdS) space and near the AdS boundary, the long-wavelength fluctuations of the metric exhibit hydrodynamic behaviour. The gauge–gravity duality then relates the boundary hydrodynamics for generalized gravity to that of gauge theories with large finite values of 't Hooft coupling. We discuss, for this framework, the hydrodynamics of the shear mode in generalized theories of gravity in d+1d+1 dimensions. It is shown that the shear diffusion coefficients of the near-horizon and boundary hydrodynamics are equal and can be expressed in a form that is purely local to the horizon. We find that the Einstein-theory relation between the shear diffusion coefficient and the shear viscosity to entropy ratio is modified for generalized gravity theories: Both can be explicitly written as the ratio of a pair of polarization-specific gravitational couplings but implicate differently polarized gravitons. Our analysis is restricted to the shear-mode fluctuations for simplicity and clarity; however, our methods can be applied to the hydrodynamics of all gravitational and matter fluctuation modes.  相似文献

A new numerical method is introduced that enables a reliable study of disorder‐induced localization of interacting particles. It is based on a quantum mechanical time evolution calculation combined with a finite size scaling analysis. The time evolution of up to four particles in one dimension is studied and localization lengths are defined via the long‐time saturation values of the mean radius, the inverse participation ratio and the center of mass extension. A systematic study of finite size effects using the finite size scaling method is performed in order to extract the localization lengths in the limit of an infinite system size. For a single particle, the well‐known scaling of the localization length λ1 with disorder strength W is observed, λ1W—2. For two particles, an interaction‐induced delocalization is found, confirming previous results obtained by numerically calculating matrix elements of the two‐particle Green's function: in the limit of small disorder, the localization length increases with decreasing disorder as λ2W—4 and can be much larger than <$>\mitlambda λ1. For three and four particles, delocalization is even stronger. Based on analytical arguments, an upper bound for the n‐particle localization length λn is derived and shown to be in agreement with the numerical data, λnλ1. Although the localization length increases superexponentially with particle number and can become arbitrarily large for small disorder, it does not diverge for finite λ1 and n. Hence, no extendedstates exist in one dimension, at least for spinless fermions.  相似文献

We demonstrate that Dirac fermions self-interacting or coupled to dynamic scalar fields can emerge in the low energy sector of designed bosonic and fermionic cold atom systems. We illustrate this with two examples defined in two spacetime dimensions. The first one is the self-interacting Thirring model. The second one is a model of Dirac fermions coupled to a dynamic scalar field that gives rise to the Gross-Neveu model. The proposed cold atom experiments can be used to probe spectral or correlation properties of interacting quantum field theories thereby presenting an alternative to lattice gauge theory simulations.  相似文献

We consider the one-loop effective potential at zero and finite temperature in field theories with anisotropic space–time scaling, with critical exponent z=2z=2, including both scalar and gauge fields. Depending on the relative strength of the coupling constants for the gauge and scalar interactions, we find that there is a symmetry breaking term induced at one loop at zero temperature and we find symmetry restoration through a first-order phase transition at high temperature.  相似文献

The present paper expands on recent attempts at estimating the parameters of simple interacting-agent models of financial markets [S. Alfarano, T. Lux, F. Wagner, Computational Economics 26, 19 (2005); S. Alfarano, T. Lux, F. Wagner, in Funktionsf?higkeit und Stabilit?t von Finanzm?rkten, edited by W. Franz, H. Ramser, M. Stadler (Mohr Siebeck, Tübingen, 2005), pp. 241–254]. Here we provide additional evidence by (i) investigating a large sample of individual stocks from the Tokyo Stock Exchange, and (ii) comparing results from the baseline noise trader/fundamentalist model of [S. Alfarano, T. Lux, F. Wagner, Computational Economics 26, 19 (2005)] with those obtained from an even simpler version with a preponderance of noise trader behaviour. As it turns out, this somewhat more parsimonious “maximally skewed” variant is often not rejected in favor of the more complex version. We also find that all stocks are dominated by noise trader behaviour irrespective of whether the data prefer the skewed or the baseline version of our model.  相似文献

Starting from the radiation transport equation for homogeneous, refractive lossy media, we derive the corresponding time-dependent multifrequency diffusion equations. Zeroth and first moments of the transport equation couple the energy density, flux and pressure tensor. The system is closed by neglecting the temporal derivative of the flux and replacing the pressure tensor by its diagonal analogue. The radiation equations are coupled to a diffusion equation for the matter temperature. We are interested in modeling heating and cooling of silica (SiO2), at possibly rapid rates. Hence, in contrast to related work, we retain the temporal derivative of the radiation field. We derive boundary conditions at a planar air–silica interface taking account of reflectivities obtained from the Fresnel relations that include absorption. The spectral dimension is discretized into a finite number of intervals leading to a system of multigroup diffusion equations. Three simulations are presented. One models cooling of a silica slab, initially at 2500 K, for 10 s. The other two are 1D and 2D simulations of irradiating silica with a CO2 laser, λ = 10.59 μm. In 2D, a laser beam (Gaussian profile, r0 = 0.5 mm for 1/e decay) shines on a disk (radius = 0.4, thickness = 0.4 cm).  相似文献

We present an extension of the concepts of the functional renormalization group approach to quantum many-body problems in non-equilibrium situations. The approach is completely general and allows calculations for both stationary and time-dependent situations. As a specific example we study the stationary state transport through a quantum dot with local Coulomb correlations. We discuss the influence of finite bias voltage and temperature on the current and conductance.  相似文献
