New opp‐dibenzoporphyrins were prepared in a concise method that was based on a Pd0‐catalyzed cascade reaction. These porphyrins, which contained carboxylic‐acid linker groups on benzene rings that were fused to the porphyrin at their β,β′‐positions, were examined as sensitizers for dye‐sensitized solar cells for the first time. Whereas all of the porphyrins showed solar‐energy‐to‐electricity conversion, an opp‐dibenzoporphyrin with conjugated carboxylic‐acid linkers displayed the highest conversion efficiency and an exceptionally high Jsc value. Cyclic voltammetry of these porphyrins suggested that the fusion of two aromatic benzene rings onto the periphery of the porphyrin lowered the HOMO–LUMO energy gap; the incorporation of a conjugated carboxylic‐acid linker group decreased the HOMO–LUMO gap even further. These CV data are consistent with DFT calculations for these porphyrins and agree well with the UV/Vis absorption‐ and fluorescence spectra of these porphyrins.  相似文献

A facile and fast approach, based on microwave‐enhanced Sonogashira coupling, has been employed to obtain in good yields both mono‐ and, for the first time, disubstituted push–pull ZnII porphyrinates bearing a variety of ethynylphenyl moieties at the β‐pyrrolic position(s). Furthermore, a comparative experimental, electrochemical, and theoretical investigation has been carried out on these β‐mono‐ or disubstituted ZnII porphyrinates and meso‐disubstituted push–pull ZnII porphyrinates. We have obtained evidence that, although the HOMO–LUMO energy gap of the meso‐substituted push–pull dyes is lower, so that charge transfer along the push–pull system therein is easier, the β‐mono‐ or disubstituted push–pull porphyrinic dyes show comparable or better efficiencies when acting as sensitizers in DSSCs. This behavior is apparently not attributable to more intense B and Q bands, but rather to more facile charge injection. This is suggested by the DFT electron distribution in a model of a β‐monosubstituted porphyrinic dye interacting with a TiO2 surface and by the positive effect of the β substitution on the incident photon‐to‐current conversion efficiency (IPCE) spectra, which show a significant intensity over a broad wavelength range (350–650 nm). In contrast, meso‐substitution produces IPCE spectra with two less intense and well‐separated peaks. The positive effect exerted by a cyanoacrylic acid group attached to the ethynylphenyl substituent has been analyzed by a photophysical and theoretical approach. This provided supporting evidence of a contribution from charge‐transfer transitions to both the B and Q bands, thus producing, through conjugation, excited electrons close to the carboxylic anchoring group. Finally, the straightforward and effective synthetic procedures developed, as well as the efficiencies observed by photoelectrochemical measurements, make the described β‐monosubstituted ZnII porphyrinates extremely promising sensitizers for use in DSSCs.  相似文献

A series of platinum(II) alkynyl‐based sensitizers has been synthesized and found to show light‐to‐electricity conversion properties. These dyes were developed as sensitizers for the application in nanocrystalline TiO2 dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). Their photophysical and electrochemical properties were studied. The excited‐state property was probed using nanosecond transient absorption spectroscopy, which showed the formation of a charge‐separated state that arises from the intramolecular photoinduced charge transfer from the platinum(II) alkynylbithienylbenzothiadiazole moiety (donor) to the polypyridyl ligand (acceptor). A lifetime of 3.4 μs was observed for the charge‐separated state. A dye‐sensitized solar cell based on one of the complexes showed a short‐circuit photocurrent of 7.12 mA cm?2, an open circuit voltage of 780 mV, and a fill factor of 0.65, thus giving an overall power conversion efficiency of 3.6 %.  相似文献

Two low‐symmetry phthalocyanines (Pcs) substituted with thiophene units at the non‐peripheral (α) and peripheral (β) positions were synthesized and their optical, electronic‐structure, and electrochemical properties were investigated. The substitution of thiophene units at the α positions of the phthalocyanine skeleton resulted in a red shift of the Q band and significantly modified the molecular‐orbital electronic distributions just below the HOMO and just above the LUMO, with distortion of the typical Gouterman four‐orbital arrangement of MOs. Two amphiphilic Ω‐shaped ZnPcs ( αPcS1 and αPcS2 ) bearing a π‐conjugated side chain with an adsorption site at an α position of the Pc macrocycle were synthesized as sensitizers for dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The absorption spectra of αPcS1 and αPcS2 showed red shifted Q bands and a broad band from 350 to 550 nm assignable to the intramolecular charge‐transfer transition from the ZnPc core to the side chains. Time‐dependent DFT calculations provided a clear interpretation of the effect of the thiophene conjugation on the typical phthalocyanine core π MOs. Compound αPcS1 was used as a light‐harvesting dye on a TiO2 electrode for a DSSC, which showed a panchromatic response in the range 400–800 nm with a power conversion efficiency of 5.5 % under one‐sun conditions.  相似文献

Dipolar metal‐free sensitizers (D‐π‐A; D=donor, π=conjugated bridge, A=acceptor) consisting of a dithiafulvalene (DTF) unit as the electron donor, a benzene, thiophene, or fluorene moiety as the conjugated spacer, and 2‐cyanoacrylic acid as the electron acceptor have been synthesized. Dimeric congeners of these dyes, (D‐π‐A)2, were also synthesized through iodine‐induced dimerization of an appropriate DTF‐containing segment. Dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) with the new dyes as the sensitizers have cell efficiencies that range from 2.11 to 5.24 %. In addition to better light harvesting, more effective suppression of the dark current than the D‐π‐A dyes is possible with the (D‐π‐A)2 dyes.  相似文献

New porphyrin sensitizers based on donor–π‐acceptor (D‐π‐A) approach have been designed, synthesized, characterized by various spectroscopic techniques and their photovoltaic properties explored. N,N′‐Diphenylamine acts as donor, the porphyrin is the π‐spacer, and either carboxylic acid or cyanoacryclic acid acts as acceptor. All compounds were characterized by using 1H NMR spectroscopy, ESI‐MS, UV–visible emission spectroscopies as well as electrochemical methods. The presence of aromatic groups between porphyrin π‐plane and acceptor group push the absorption of both Soret and Q‐bands of porphyrin towards the red region. The electrochemical properties suggests that LUMO of these sensitizers above the TiO2 conduction band. Finally, the device was fabricated using liquid redox electrolyte (I?/I3?) and its efficiency was compared with that of a leading sensitizer.  相似文献

New organic dyes containing pyrenylamine donors in a cascade arrangement and cyanoacrylic acid acceptors have been synthesized and characterized by optical, electrochemical, and theoretical studies. The dyes inherit a D ‐π1‐D ‐π2‐A (D=donor, A=acceptor) molecular architecture where the π linkers π1 are changed from phenyl to biphenyl and fluorene, whereas the π linker π2 that connects the donor fragment with the acceptor is a phenyl unit. The conjugation pathway linking the two donor segments has been found to play a major role in the optical and electrochemical properties. Shorter π linkers such as phenyl groups facilitate the donor–acceptor interaction while the nonplanar biphenyl spacer decreases the electronic communication between the donors and enhances the oxidation propensity of the corresponding dye. All the dyes display an intense longer wavelength electronic transition, which is attributable to the amine‐to‐cyanoacrylic acid charge transfer. The extinction coefficient of this peak grows dramatically on increasing the conjugation pathway length between the two donor segments. The dyes were used as sensitizers in nanocrystalline TiO2‐based dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) and the cascade donor system contributed to the enhancement in the device efficiency due to favorable absorption and redox properties.  相似文献

Model structures of 1,3,5‐triarylbenzenes with a substituted benzene core linked to thienyl or 3,4‐ethylenedioxythienyl (EDOT) terminal groups are studied by electrochemical and in situ ESR/UV/Vis/NIR spectroelectrochemical techniques. Oxidative polymerization of the monomers results in C? C coupling of the thiophene moieties in the 5‐position, forming dimeric structures with bithiophene linkers as the first step. Both the doubly charged protonated dimer and the new dimer formed after proton release are studied in detail for 2,4,6‐tris[2‐(3,4‐ethylenedioxythienyl)]‐1‐methoxybenzene. Quite high stability of the doubly charged σ dimer formed on oxidation with unusual redox behavior at the electrode is observed. Density functional calculations of the molecular structure as well as spectroscopic and electronic properties of charged states in 1,3,5‐triarylbenzene derivatives in the monomeric, dimeric, and oligomeric form are presented. The complex spectroelectrochemical response of a thin solid film formed on the electrode surface upon potentiodynamic polymerization indicates the existence of different charge states of oligomeric structures within the solid matrix.  相似文献

In an attempt to shed light on how the addition of a benzothiadiazole (BTD) moiety influences the properties of dyes, a series of newly designed triphenylamine‐based sensitizers incorporating a BTD unit as an additional electron‐withdrawing group in a specific donor–acceptor–π‐acceptor architecture has been investigated. We found that different positions of the BTD unit provided significantly different responses for light absorption. Among these, it was established that the further the BTD unit is away from the donor part, the broader the absorption spectra, which is an observation that can be applied to improve light‐harvesting ability. However, when the BTD unit is connected to the anchoring group a faster, unfavorable charge recombination takes place; therefore, a thiophene unit was inserted between these two acceptors, providing redshifted absorption spectra as well as blocking unfavorable charge recombination. The results of our calculations provide valuable information and illustrate the potential benefits of using computation‐aided sensitizer design prior to further experimental synthesis.  相似文献

A triangulene‐based C2‐symmetric 33 π‐conjugated stable neutral π‐radical, 2. , which possesses two dicyanomethylene groups and one oxo group, has been designed, synthesized, and isolated as an analogue of tris(dicyanomethylene) derivative 1. and trioxo derivative TOT. with C3 symmetry. Effects of molecular‐symmetry reduction and electron‐accepting substituents on this fused polycyclic neutral π‐radical system were studied in terms of their molecular structure, electronic‐spin structure, and electrochemical and optical properties with the help of theoretical calculations. Interestingly, this system ( 2. ) has a four‐stage redox ability, like TOT. , as well as low frontier energy levels and a small SOMO–LUMO gap, similar to 1. , in spite of the loss of the degenerate LUMOs in symmetry‐lowered 2. , which is associated with the attachment of the weaker electron‐accepting oxo group instead of the dicyanomethylene group in 1. . These prominent results are attributable to the structural and electronic properties in the triangulene‐based highly delocalized fused polycyclic neutral π‐radical system.  相似文献

Three electron donor‐?? bridge‐electron acceptor (D‐π‐A) organic dyes bearing two carboxylic acid groups were applied to dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSC) as sensitizers, in which one triphenylamine or modified triphenylamine and two rhodanine‐3‐acetic acid fragments act as D and A, respectively. It was found that the introduction of t‐butyl or methoxy group in the triphenylamine subunit could lead to more efficient photoinduced intramolecular charge transfer, thus improving the overall photoelectric conversion efficiency of the resultant DSSC. Under global AM 1.5 solar irradiation (73 mW·cm?2), the dye molecule based on methoxy‐substituted triphenylamine achieved the best photovoltaic performance: a short circuit photocurrent density (Jsc) of 12.63 mA·cm?2, an open circuit voltage (Voc) of 0.55 V, a fill factor (FF) of 0.62, corresponding to an overall efficiency (η) of 5.9%.  相似文献

Owing to well‐defined structural parameters and enhanced electronic properties, highly ordered TiO2 nanotube arrays have been employed to substitute TiO2 nanoparticles for use in dye‐sensitized solar cells. To further improve the performance of dye‐sensitized TiO2 nanotube solar cells, efforts have been directed toward the optimization of TiO2 photoanodes, dyes, electrolytes, and counter electrodes. Herein, we highlight recent progress in rational structural and surface engineering on anodic TiO2 nanotube arrays and their effects on improving the power conversion efficiency of dye‐sensitized TiO2 nanotube solar cells.  相似文献

Cyclic nitroxide radicals represent promising alternatives to the iodine‐based redox mediator commonly used in dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). To date DSSCs with nitroxide‐based redox mediators have achieved energy conversion efficiencies of just over 5 % but efficiencies of over 15 % might be achievable, given an appropriate mediator. The efficacy of the mediator depends upon two main factors: it must reversibly undergo one‐electron oxidation and it must possess an oxidation potential in a range of 0.600–0.850 V (vs. a standard hydrogen electrode (SHE) in acetonitrile at 25 °C). Herein, we have examined the effect that structural modifications have on the value of the oxidation potential of cyclic nitroxides as well as the reversibility of the oxidation process. These included alterations to the N‐containing skeleton (pyrrolidine, piperidine, isoindoline, azaphenalene, etc.), as well as the introduction of different substituents (alkyl‐, methoxy‐, amino‐, carboxy‐, etc.) to the ring. Standard oxidation potentials were calculated using high‐level ab initio methodology that was demonstrated to be very accurate (with a mean absolute deviation from experimental values of only 16 mV). An optimal value of 1.45 for the electrostatic scaling factor for UAKS radii in acetonitrile solution was obtained. Established trends in the values of oxidation potentials were used to guide molecular design of stable nitroxides with desired ${E{{{\circ}\hfill \atop {\rm ox}\hfill}}}$ , and a number of compounds were suggested for potential use as enhanced redox mediators in DSSCs.  相似文献

Noncovalent interactions involving aromatic rings, such as π‐stacking and CH/π interactions, are central to many areas of modern chemistry. However, recent studies proved that aromaticity is not required for stacking interactions, since similar interaction energies were computed for several aromatic and aliphatic dimers. Herein, the nature and origin of π/π, σ/σ, and σ/π dispersion interactions has been investigated by using dispersion‐corrected density functional theory, energy decomposition analysis, and the recently developed noncovalent interaction (NCI) method. Our analysis shows that π/π and σ/σ stacking interactions are equally important for the benzene and cyclohexane dimers, explaining why both compounds have similar boiling points. Also, similar dispersion forces are found in the benzene???methane and cyclohexane???methane complexes. However, for systems larger than naphthalene, there are enhanced stacking interactions in the aromatic dimers adopting a parallel‐displaced configuration compared to the analogous saturated systems. Although dispersion plays a decisive role in stabilizing all the complexes, the origin of the π/π, σ/σ, and σ/π interactions is different. The NCI method reveals that the dispersion interactions between the hydrogen atoms are responsible for the surprisingly strong aliphatic interactions. Moreover, whereas σ/σ and σ/π interactions are local, the π/π stacking are inherently delocalized, which give rise to a non‐additive effect. These new types of dispersion interactions between saturated groups can be exploited in the rational design of novel carbon materials.  相似文献

Four new unsymmetric platinum(II) bis(aryleneethynylene) derivatives have been designed and synthesized, which showed good light‐harvesting capabilities for application as photosensitizers in dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The absorption, electrochemical, time‐dependent density functional theory (TD‐DFT), impedance spectroscopic, and photovoltaic properties of these platinum(II)‐based sensitizers have been fully characterized. The optical and TD‐DFT studies show that the incorporation of a strongly electron‐donating group significantly enhances the absorption abilities of the complexes. The maximum absorption wavelength of these four organometallic dyes can be tuned by various structural modifications of the triphenylamine and/or thiophene electron donor, improving the light absorption range up to 650 nm. The photovoltaic performance of these dyes as photosensitizers in mesoporous TiO2 solar cells was investigated, and a power conversion efficiency as high as 1.57 % was achieved, with an open‐circuit voltage of 0.59 V, short‐circuit current density of 3.63 mA cm?2, and fill factor of 0.73 under simulated AM 1.5G solar illumination.  相似文献
