A new model of QCD parton shower is proposed which is dedicated to two-photon processes in e+e? scattering. When hadron jets are produced, the photon may resolve into quark-antiquark pairs so that the structure functions of the photon should be introduced. Based on the Altarelli-Parisi equation for these functions, an algorithm is formulated that allows us to construct a model for parton showers for the photon. Our model consists of two parts, one of which describes the deep inelastic scattering of the photon and the other one the scattering of two quasi-real photons. Using the model some results are presented on parton distributions and jet production.  相似文献

We derive a theoretical explanation of the similarities which have been experimentally observed between final state distributions in soft processes (K ? p interactions andpp collisions at ISR) and hard processes (e + e ? annihilations and deep inelastic scattering). The theoretical framework is the correspondence between QCD and dual topological unitarization (DTU), which expresses confinement as the equivalence of the hadron and parton bases to account for unitarity. Starting from the interpretation of the zero handle topology in DTU in terms of the naive quark parton model, we show how to characterize gluons in the hadron basis: primordial gluons are associated with the one handle topology, and the cascading of hard gluons is related to the sum of all higher topologies in DTU. We get this way a QCD interpretation of the reggeon calculus which is the theoretical framework of soft hadronic processes at asymptotic energies.  相似文献

We present a summary of QCD formulae describing the effects of scaling violation in leptonhadron processes, with the inclusion of recently derived higher order corrections. Deep inelastic leptoproduction, one-hadron inclusive distributions in leptoproduction and ine + e ? annihilation and Drell-Yan processes are discussed in detail. Higher order corrections to parton densities, fragmentation functions and to lepton-parton cross-sections in the above processes are presented in a common factorization scheme, so that a comparative analysis of various processes as well as an independent analysis of each of them is possible. A discussion of the various scheme dependences at next-to-leading level is also included.  相似文献

It is shown that the evolution of hadronic jets produced in hard processes can be studied in terms of a simple parton branching picture, beyond the leading log approximation of QCD. The jet calculus is generalized to any given order of logs (but always to all orders of αs. We discuss the general structure of the formalism. Universality of jet evolution is discussed. We consider also jet calorimetry measure and the multiplicity distribution of final states in a form which allows a systematic improvement of approximation. To the next-to-leading order, we prove the finiteness and elucidate the scheme dependence of parton subprocess probabilities. The physical inclusive cross section is shown to be scheme independent: next-to-leading results for e+e? → q (non-singlet) + X agree with those of Curci and others.  相似文献

An analysis is presented of the single inclusive lepton spectra expected from the decay of charmed hadrons or heavier particles with new flavors produced in e+e? annihilation. Extremely soft spectra are found, in contrast to the heavy lepton signal. Good detection efficiency at low momentum will therefore continue to be important in future experiments. A range of plausible inclusive D meson spectra abstracted from a parton fragmentation picture is employed. The model is applicable to other processes.  相似文献

The parton model predicts a jet structure for e+e? annihilation into hadrons. This is obscured at low energies by the presence of finite transverse momentum effects. We suggest studying e++e? → h1+h2+X, where at least one hadron is near the kinematical boundary; this defines a jet axis. Numerous predictions for correlations among mesons follow from Feynman's parton fragmentation suggestion. We also give sum rules which check for the quantum numbers of the partons.  相似文献

Moment analysis of global multiplicity distributions previously done for e + e ? and hh processes is applied to hA and AA collisions. Oscillations of cumulants as functions of their rank are found in all processes for which experimental data are available. A similar oscillation pattern is found in the dual parton model and quark-gluon string models but not in the phenomenological fits such as modified negative binomial distributions. The zeros of the truncated generating function move closer and closer to the unity circle in the complex z-plane when the complexity of the collision increases.  相似文献

In this paper we briefly review the transverse momentum dependent generalized parton model and its application to the study of azimuthal asymmetries in the distribution of leading hadrons (mainly pions) inside large transverse momentum jets inclusively produced in polarized proton-proton collisions. We put particular emphasis on the phenomenological interest of these observables, in combination with similar asymmetries measured in semi-inclusive deeply inelastic scattering, Drell-Yan processes and e + e ? collisions, for the study of the universality properties of the transverse momentum dependent parton distribution and fragmentation functions. We present results for RHIC kinematics at center-of-mass energies √s = 200 and 500 GeV, for central and mainly forward jet rapidities, in particular for the Sivers distribution and the Collins fragmentation function, that are believed to be responsible for many of the largest asymmetries measured in the last years. We also briefly discuss the case of inclusive jet production and recent phenomenological applications of other theoretical approaches, like the colour gauge invariant generalized parton model and the collinear twist-three approach, aiming at clarifying the issues of the universality and process dependence of transverse momentum dependent functions.  相似文献

We discuss some of the recent advances in the field of parton fragmentation processes into hadrons as well as their possible modifications in QCD media. Hadron-production data in e + e , deep inelastic scattering and hadronic collisions are presented, together with global analyses of fragmentation functions into light and heavy hadrons and developments on parton fragmentation in perturbative QCD at small momentum fraction. Motivated by the recent RHIC data indicating a significant suppression of large-p hadron production in heavy-ion collisions, several recent attempts to model medium-modified fragmentation, e.g. by solving “medium” evolution equations or through Monte Carlo studies, have been proposed and are discussed in detail. Finally, we mention the possibility to extract medium-modified fragmentation functions using photon–hadron correlations.  相似文献

Three commonly used jet algorithms and two new ones have been studied with respect to their performance in the new experimental situation of deep-inelastic scattering at the HERA electron-proton collider. Their ability to reconstruct properties of the underlying parton level subprocesses was investigated. This relates to first order QCD matrix elements and higher order parton emissions as described by parton showers. A new method was devised to determine suitable values for the resolution parameters of the algorithms and assess their reconstruction quality. The Jade algorithm, which is frequently used ine + e ?-annihilation, is found to perform less well compared to other algorithms.

We discuss solutions of the renormalization group equations for a Yukawa field theory. For an increasing effective boson mass we find that the leading terms in the vertex functions in the high-energy region are given by diagrams which contain no internal boson lines. In e+e? annihilation into hadrons we get the parton model formula R(s) = ΣiQi2, whereas in the deep inelastic e?p scattering the simple parton model behaviour is modified by the (in general) non-canonical dimension of the quark field.  相似文献

The formulation of a QCD parton cascade in terms of colour dipoles or colour antennae is applied to e+e-annihilation. In this formulation the destructive interference for soft-gluon emission has a very natural interpretation, and it is easy to construct a Monte Carlo simulation program. At PEP and PETRA energies the results agree very well with experimental data, and thus also with results from conventional parton cascades. However, at higher energies observable differences emerge, which can discriminate between the models.  相似文献

We develop a technique, based explicitly on the factorization properties of mass singularities, which allows one to calculate the evolution of parton densities beyond leading order. We present the results for the evolution of hadronic structure functions as well as for parton fragmentation functions into hadrons. Within our scheme the predictions for a particular process are obtained by convoluting a universal parton density with a “short-distance” cross section specific to the process. As an application, we calculate the QCD predictions for the Q2 dependence of deep inelastic lepton-hadron scattering and of one-particle iclusive e+ e? annihilation cross sections. Our results for electroproduction agree with those obtained with the operator product expansion technique. Physical quantities in scattering are related to the corresponding ones in annihilation by analytic continuation, whereas the Gribov-Lipatov relation is strongly violated.  相似文献

A large variety of modern perturbative aspects of QCD is critically reviewed from a theoretical as well as phenomenological point of view. The first part of this review is devoted to the classical more formal approach of summing leading logs: After a brief discussion of the basic concepts of renormalization theory, we review the renormalization group and its predictions for the effective (running) coupling constant in any field theory (asymptotic freedom as well as ‘fixed point’ theories). Using, in addition, the operator product expansion for deep inelastic scattering we calculate scaling violations of structure functions and show how to compare these results with experiment. Furthermore, dynamical calculations of parton distributions are discussed, as well as σLT, jets in leptoproduction and subleading corrections. We then proceed to show how these renormalization group improved results can be also derived using a simple perturbative language (Kogut-Susskind; Altarelli-Parisi) or by summing parton (Bethe-Salpeter) ladders. The universal validity (process independence) of the resulting Q2 dependencies of parton distributions is emphasized and their factorization from the uncalculable non-perturbative piece (infrared divergences) is discussed. These latter results enable us to make rather unambiguous predictions for processes other than deep inelastic scattering, to which the remainder of this review is devoted. The hard scattering processes discussed indetail include hadronic (Drell-Yan) production of lepton pairs as well as their transverse momenta, the hadronic production of heavy quark flavors, semi-inclusive processes and fragmentation functions, high-pT reactions and some recent topics and problems of jet production in e+e? annihilation.  相似文献

Experimental multiplicity distributions of antiproton diffraction dissociation and inelastic antiproton-proton interactions at 22.4 GeV/c with leading particles removed are compared withe + e ? annihilation into hadrons. We find agreement with the predictions of the dual parton model.  相似文献
