In this paper we first provide a geometric interpretation of the Minty-Browder monotonicity which allows us to extend this concept to the so called h-monotonicity, still formulated in an analytic way. A topological concept of monotonicity is also known in the literature: it requires the connectedness of all preimages of the operator involved. This fact is important since combined with the local injectivity, it ensures global injectivity. When a linear structure is present on the source space, one can ask for the preimages to even be convex. In an earlier paper, the authors have shown that Minty-Browder monotone operators defined on convex open sets do have convex preimages, obtaining as a by-product global injectivity theorems. In this paper we study the preimages of h-monotone operators, by showing that they are not divisible by closed connected hypersurfaces, and investigate them from the dimensional point of view. As a consequence we deduce that h-monotone local homeomorphisms are actually global homeomorphisms, as the proved properties of their preimages combined with local injectivity still produce global injectivity.  相似文献

We show that the well-known fact that the equivariant cohomology (with real coefficients) of a torus action is a torsion-free module if and only if the map induced by the inclusion of the fixed point set is injective generalises to actions of arbitrary compact connected Lie groups if one replaces the fixed point set by the set of points with isotropy rank equal to the rank of the acting group. This is true essentially because the action on this set is always equivariantly formal. In case this set is empty we show that the induced action on the set of points with highest occuring isotropy rank is Cohen-Macaulay. It turns out that just as equivariant formality of an action is equivalent to equivariant formality of the action of a maximal torus, the same holds true for equivariant injectivity and the Cohen-Macaulay property. In addition, we find a topological criterion for equivariant injectivity in terms of orbit spaces.  相似文献

We show some relations among the volumes of domains in Euclidean spaces, their surface areas and the inward injectivity radii from their boundaries. In particular, we give an estimate for the upper bound of the ratios of their surface areas and volumes by means of inward injectivity radii. The upper bound seems to depend on their topological structures.

We consider the viscous hyperelastic‐rod wave equation subject to an external force, where the viscous term is given by second order differential operator in divergence form. Under some mild assumptions on the viscous term, first, we establish the global well‐posedness in both the periodic case and the case of the whole line, afterwards, we show the existence of global attractors for the two cases, respectively. Using Escardó’s characterization of injectivity via Kock–Zöberlein monads, we introduce suitable monads in comma categories of topological spaces that yield characterizations of fibrewise injectivity in topological T0-spaces, with respect to the class of embeddings, and of dense, of flat and of completely flat embeddings. Characterizations, in the category of topological spaces, of injective maps with respect to the same classes of embeddings follow easily from the results obtained for T0-spaces. Moreover, it is shown that, together with the corresponding embeddings, injective continuous maps form a weak factorization system in the category of topological (T0-)spaces and continuous maps.  相似文献

In this paper, we provide sufficient conditions that ensure the convexity of the inverse images of an operator, monotone in some sense. Further, conditions that ensure the monotonicity, respectively the local injectivity of an operator, are also obtained. Combining the conditions that provide the local injectivity, respectively the convexity of the inverse images of an operator, we are able to obtain some global injectivity results. As applications, some new analytical conditions that assure the injectivity, respectively univalency of a complex function of one complex variable are obtained. We also show that some classical results, such as Alexander–Noshiro–Warschawski and Wolff theorem or Mocanu theorem, are easy consequences of our results.  相似文献

In this paper we show that the local monotonicity in the sense of Minty and Browder on some residual sets assure the global monotonicity and, according to an earlier result, the convexity of the inverse images. We pay some special attention to the residual sets arising as complements of some special first Baire category sets, namely the $\sigma $ -affine sets, the $\sigma $ -compact sets and the $\sigma $ -algebraic varieties. We achieve this goal gradually by showing, at first, that the continuous real valued functions of one real variable, which are locally nondecreasing on sets whose complements have no nonempty perfect subsets, are globally nondecreasing. The convexity of the inverse images combined with their discreteness, in the case of local injective operators, ensure the global injectivity. Note that the global monotonicity and the local injectivity of regular enough operators is guaranteed by the positive definiteness of the symmetric part of their Gateaux differentials on the involved residual sets. We close this work with a short subsection on the global convexity which is obtained out of its local counterpart on some residual sets.  相似文献

Projection algebras are M-sets for the monoid M = (ℕ, min) which are used by computer scientists for algebraic specification of process algebras. In contrast to the case of modules it is well known that the Baer Criterion does not generally hold for injectivity of M-sets for an arbitrary monoid M. We investigate T-periodic parametrized retarded functional motion equations on (possibly) noncompact manifolds; that is, constrained second order retarded functional differential equations. For such equations we prove a global continuation result for T-periodic solutions. The approach is topological and is based on the degree theory for tangent vector fields as well as on the fixed point index theory.Our main theorem is a generalization to the case of retarded equations of an analogous result obtained by the last two authors for second order differential equations on manifolds. As corollaries we derive a Rabinowitz-type global bifurcation result and a Mawhin-type continuation principle. Finally, we deduce the existence of forced oscillations for the retarded spherical pendulum under general assumptions.  相似文献

In this paper we study the existence of pullback global attractors for multivalued processes generated by differential inclusions. First, we define multivalued dynamical processes, prove abstract results on the existence of -limit sets and global attractors, and study their topological properties (compactness, connectedness). Further, we apply the abstract results to nonautonomous differential inclusions of the reaction–diffusion type in which the forcing term can grow polynomially in time, and to stochastic differential inclusions as well.  相似文献

By appealing to the Poincare-Hopf Theorem on topological invariants, we introduce a global classification scheme for homogeneous, convex bodies based on the number and type of their equilibria. We show that beyond trivially empty classes all other classes are non-empty in the case of three-dimensional bodies; in particular we prove the existence of a body with just one stable and one unstable equilibrium. In the case of two-dimensional bodies the situation is radically different: the class with one stable and one unstable equilibrium is empty (). We also show that the latter result is equivalent to the classical Four-Vertex Theorem in differential geometry. We illustrate the introduced equivalence classes by various types of dice and statistical experimental results concerning pebbles on the seacoast.  相似文献

In this paper we present a point of view which allows one to interpret the solutions of a non-autonomous differential equation as a classical dynamical system, without assuming uniqueness of solutions of the initial value problem. In addition we are able to construct a global flow without assuming the global existence of solutions of the given differential equations. This point of view seems appropriate in the sense that many applications of the results of classical topological dynamics to the study of the solutions of differential equations can now be performed, in a straight-forward manner, without the uniqueness assumption. We shall illustrate this claim with one important application concerning the existence of periodic or almost periodic solutions.  相似文献

Mappings of the plane, introduced by M. Hénon and R. Lozi, are presented as perturbations of endomorphisms of the line. When some heteroclinic tangencies occur, which allow topological conjugacy between the corresponding endomorphisms, and arbitrarily close to the endomorphisms case, we prove the nonexistence of topological conjugacy between Hénon mapping and Lozi mapping. The proof, as well as related results, relies on the existence of a topological invariant previously introduced by J. Palis.  相似文献

Action of a monoid on a set have always been of interest for mathematicians and computer scientists. On the other hand, Domain Theory, which studies directed complete partially ordered sets, was introduced by Scott in 1970 when he explored the possibility of using ordered topological spaces to give meaning first to typed and then untyped λ-calculi.

In this paper, combining the above two notions, we consider actions of a monoid on domains and study the algebraic notion of injectivity with respect to monomorphisms and embeddings in the category so obtained.  相似文献

In this article, we extend the cyclic antimonotonicity from scalar bifunctions to vector bifunctions. We find out a cyclically antimonotone vector bifunction can be regarded as a family of cyclically antimonotone scalar bifunctions. Using a pre-order principle(see Qiu, 2014), we prove a new version of Ekeland variational principle(briefly, denoted by EVP), which is quite different from the previous ones, for the objective function consists of a family of scalar functions. From the new version, we deduce several vectorial EVPs for cyclically antimonotone equilibrium problems, which extend and improve the previous results. By developing the original method proposed by Castellani and Giuli, we deduce a number of existence results(no matter scalar-valued case,or vector-valued case), when the feasible set is a sequentially compact topological space or a countably compact topological space. Finally, we propose a general coercivity condition. Combining the general coercivity condition and the obtained existence results with compactness conditions, we obtain several existence results for equilibrium problems in noncompact settings.  相似文献

In this paper we study initial value boundary problems of two types of nonlinear dispersive wave equations on the half-line and on a finite interval subject to homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions. We first prove local well-posedness of the rod equation and of the b-equation for general initial data. Furthermore, we are able to specify conditions on the initial data which on the one hand guarantee global existence and on the other hand produce solutions with a finite life span. In the case of finite time singularities we are able to describe the precise blow-up scenario of breaking waves. Our approach is based on sharp extension results for functions on the half-line or on a finite interval and several symmetry preserving properties of the equations under discussion.  相似文献

We investigate group-theoretic “signatures” of odd cycles of a graph, and their connections to topological obstructions to 3-colourability. In the case of signatures derived from free groups, we prove that the existence of an odd cycle with trivial signature is equivalent to having the coindex of the hom-complex at least 2 (which implies that the chromatic number is at least 4). In the case of signatures derived from elementary abelian 2-groups we prove that the existence of an odd cycle with trivial signature is a sufficient condition for having the index of the hom-complex at least 2 (which again implies that the chromatic number is at least 4).  相似文献
