The conductivity of styrene‐butadiene‐styrene block copolymers containing different amounts of extraconductive carbon black (CB) was investigated as a function of the mold temperature. The composites exhibited reduced percolation thresholds (between 1.0 and 2.0 vol % CB). The dynamic mechanical analysis characterization revealed that the glass‐rubber‐transition temperatures of both segments were not affected by the CB addition, although the damping of the polybutadiene phase displayed a progressive drop with an increase in the CB concentration. The normalized curves of tan δ/tan δmax (where tan δ represents the value of the loss tangent at any measurement temperature and tan δmax represents the loss tangent peak value at the corresponding temperature Tmax) versus T/Tmax (where T is the temperature and Tmax is the maximum temperature), corresponding to both polystyrene and polybutadiene phases as well as the activation energy related to the glass‐rubber‐transition process, did not present any significant change with the addition of CB. The dielectric analysis revealed the presence of two relaxation peaks in the composite containing 1.5 vol % CB, the magnitude of which was strongly influenced by the frequency, being attributed to interfacial Maxwell‐Wagner‐Sillars relaxations caused by the presence of different interfaces in the composite. The mechanical properties were not affected by the presence of CB at concentrations of up to 2.5 vol %. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part B: Polym Phys 41: 2983–2997, 2003  相似文献

Poly(N‐acryloyl glycinamide) (PNAGA)/poly(N‐isopropyl acrylamide) (PNIPAAm) interpenetrating network (IPN) hydrogels were made by UV‐light initiated radical polymerization in two‐steps. The IPN hydrogels showed a double thermoresponsive behavior due to the combination of PNIPAAm (thermophobic) and PNAGA (thermophilic) networks. Increasing the content of the thermophobic PNIPAAm network leads to a change from a broad thermophilic volume phase transition temperature of PNAGA to a thermophilic–thermophobic‐type dual transition for the prepared IPN. Due to the double thermoresponsive character of the IPN gels, the mechanical properties are dependent upon temperature as demonstrated by performing tensile tests in water at 15 and 50 °C. Furthermore, the IPN hydrogels were characterized using turbidity measurements, SEM, and the determination of the equilibrium swelling ratio. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. A novel thermosensitive poly(N-vinylisobutyramide)(polyNVIBA) hydrogel was prepared by the copolymerization of N-vinylisobutyramide (NVIBA) with butylene-bis-NVA(B-BNVA) as a crosslinker in a high yield. The swelling transition behavior was examined in comparison with poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)(polyNIPAAm) hydrogel. The resulting polyNVIBA hydrogel clearly showed a swelling transion in water at ca. 41°C. To control the transition temperature (Tt) of the gel, crosslinked copolymers of NVIBA and N-vinylacetamide (NVA) were prepared and compared with copolymers of N-isopropylacrylamide(NIPAAm) and NVA. The incorporation of NVA led to a higher swelling transition temperature. Tt of poly(NVIBA-co-NVA) gels was almost the same as those in water-soluble poly(NVIBA-co-NVA). The responses for a swelling transition of polyNVIBA and poly(NVIBA-co-NVA) gels were sharp in comparison to polyNIPAAm gels. PolyNVIBA and poly(NVIBA-co-NVA) gels desorbed 98% of water above Tt. The characteristic and the mechanism of the phase transition on the hydrogels were discussed. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci A: Polym Chem 35 : 3377–3384, 1997  相似文献

A functionalized cyclam was synthesized by the attachment of a polymerizable acryloyl group to one of the four nitrogens on the cyclam molecule. The polymerization of the functionalized cyclam was performed with N‐isopropylacrylamide and N,N′‐methylene bisacrylamide, and the gels obtained were studied in the presence of different transition‐metal‐ion solutions. There was a drastic difference in the phase‐transition temperature (Tc) of the poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAAm)/cyclam gel in comparison with the pure PNIPAAm gel. For the described system, a Tc shift of 15 °C was obtained. The presence of functionalized cyclam increased the hydrophilicity and Tc of the aforementioned polymer gels in deionized water (at pH 6) because of the presence of protonated amino moieties. The PNIPAAm/cyclam gels showed a dependence of the swelling behavior on pH. Tc of the pure PNIPAAm gel was weakly influenced by the presence of any transition‐metal ions, such as Cu2+, Ni2+, Zn2+, and Mn2+. The addition of Cu2+ or Ni2+ to the PNIPAAm/cyclam gel reduced Tc of the polymer gel, and a shift of approximately 12 °C was observed. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The effects of pigments contained in N‐isopropylacrylamide (NIPAM) gels on their volume‐change properties were investigated. All the NIPAM gel particles, containing various kinds and concentrations of pigments, showed a volume phase transition at 34 °C. No pigment affected the volume‐phase‐transition temperature of the NIPAM gels. As the concentration of the pigment in the NIPAM gels was increased, the amount of the volume change of the NIPAM gels was reduced. The water absorptivity of the NIPAM gels in the swollen state decreased as the pigment concentration increased, whereas the water absorptivity in the shrunken state was almost constant. Reducing the initial monomer concentration of the polymerization of the NIPAM gel increased the water absorptivity in the swollen state. With an increase in the water absorptivity, the volume changes of the NIPAM gels containing pigments were increased. Prototype light modulators in which the NIPAM gel particles containing pigment were dispersed between glass plates were fabricated. The light modulator using the gel particles with improved diameter change (d/d0 = 2.3, where d and d0 are the equilibrium diameter and the diameter of the fully shrunken state at 50 °C, respectively) exhibited a larger transmittance change from 8 to 79% than that using the gel particles before the improvement (d/d0 = 1.7; from 38 to 79%) according to temperature changes. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The factors controlling grain growth during the disorder‐to‐order transition in a polystyrene‐block‐polyisoprene copolymer melt were studied with time‐resolved depolarized light scattering. The ordered phase consisted of hexagonally packed polyisoprene cylinders, and the order–disorder‐transition temperature of the block copolymer (TODT) was 132 ± 1 °C. Our objective was to identify the temperature at which the grain growth rate was maximized (Tmax) and compare it with theoretical predictions. We conducted seeded grain growth experiments, which comprised two steps. In the first step, which lasted for 43 min, the sample was cooled from the disordered state to 124 °C. This resulted in the formation of a small number of ordered grains or seeds. This was followed by a second step in which the sample was heated to temperatures between 124 and 132 °C and the seeds grew with time. Our objective was to study grain growth at different temperatures starting from the same initial condition. The value of Tmax obtained experimentally was 128 °C. The theoretically predicted value of Tmax, based entirely on the rheological properties of the disordered sample and TODT, was also 128 °C. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. The thermosensitivity of biodegradable and non‐toxic amphiphilic polymer derived from a naturally occurring polypeptide and a derivative of amino acid was first reported. The amphiphilic polymer consisted of poly(γ‐glutamic acid) (γ‐PGA) as a hydrophilic backbone, and L ‐phenylalanine ethyl ester (L ‐PAE) as a hydrophobic branch. Poly(γ‐glutamic acid)‐graft‐L ‐phenylalanine (γ‐PGA‐graft‐L ‐PAE) with grafting degrees of 7–49% were prepared by varying the content of a water‐soluble carbodiimide (WSC). γ‐PGA‐graft‐L ‐PAE with a grafting degree of 49% exhibited thermoresponsive phase transition behavior in an aqueous solution at around 80°C. The copolymers with grafting degrees in the range of 30–49% showed thermoresponsive properties in NaCl solution. A clouding temperature (Tcloud) could be adjusted by changing the polymer concentration and/or NaCl concentration. The thermoresponsive behavior was reversible. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. 3‐Acryloxypropylhepta(3,3,3‐trifluoropropyl) polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) was synthesized and used as a modifier to improve the thermal response rates of poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) hydrogel. The radical copolymerization among N‐isopropylacrylamide (NIPAM), the POSS macromer and N,N′‐methylenebisacrylamide was performed to prepare the POSS‐containing PNIPAM cross‐linked networks. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) showed that the POSS‐containing PNIPAM networks displayed the enhanced glass transition temperatures (Tg's) and improved thermal stability when compared with plain PNIPAM network. The POSS‐containing PNIPAM hydrogels exhibited temperature‐responsive behavior as the plain PNIPAM hydrogels. It is noted that with the moderate contents of POSS, the POSS‐containing PNIPAM hydrogels displayed much faster response rates in terms of swelling, deswelling, and re‐swelling experiments than plain PNIPAM hydrogel. The improved thermoresponsive properties of hydrogels have been interpreted on the basis of the formation of the specific microphase‐separated morphology in the hydrogels, that is, the POSS structural units in the hybrid hydrogels were self‐assembled into the highly hydrophobic nanodomains, which behave as the microporogens and promote the contact of PNIPAM chains and water. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The thermoresponsive conductive composite (TCC) thin films and fiber mats, whose electrical property changed with temperature, were fabricated successfully. The thermocrosslinkable and thermoresponsive copolymer, poly(N‐isopropyl acrylamide‐coN‐methylolacrylamide) (PNN), was synthesized. The TCC thin film and fiber mat were fabricated by spin coating and electrospinning process of PEDOT:PSS/PNN solutions, respectively. After thermocrosslinking and doping by DMSO, the composite thin films and fiber mats were obtained. Fibrous structures of TCC fiber mats were observed by SEM. The surface resistance and conductivity of composites were measured. The thermoresponsivity and swelling ratio of TCCs were also studied. The thermoresponsive conductive property was analyzed by measuring the surface resistance of TCCs in water bath under various temperatures from 20 to 50 °C. With the increase of temperature, the TCCs shrank to be dense structure and showed lower surface resistance. The TCC fibers mat exhibited greater sensitivity to temperature than thin film owing to its fibrous structure. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. A random copolymer of N-isopropylacrylamide and 2-hydroxyethylmeth-acrylate, poly(NIPAM-co-HEMA), having thermoresponsive character was prepared bya redox copolymerization method. Poly(ethylene glycol), PEG 4000 was included in the copolymerization recipe to increase the thermoresponsivity of copolymeric structure. Poly(NIPAM-co-HEMA) copolymer gels having more elastic character and higher mechanical strength relative to poly(NIPAM) gel could be achieved by the proposed copolymerization procedure. The equilibrium and dynamic response against the temperature were investigated for the gel matrices produced by changing the initial NIPAM/HEMA mol ratio and PEG 4000 concentration in the copolymerization mixture. The effective diffusion coefficient of water within the gel matrix was estimated for either swollen or shrunken states by applying an unsteady-state diffusion model on the dynamic swelling and shrinking behaviors of gel matrix prepared in the cylindrical form. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAAm) gels are temperature‐responsive polymer gels; and were prepared by redox polymerization of N‐isopropylacrylamide in the presence of N,N′‐methylenebisacrylamide as a crosslinking reagent and core‐shell type bioconjugates, which were core‐crosslinked polyion complex micelles formed from the mixture of bovine pancreas trypsin and poly(ethylene glycol)‐block‐poly(α,β‐aspartic acid). The phase transition temperature of PNIPAAm gels was no change with physically immobilization of bioconjugates. Also, the enzymatic activity of bioconjugates was essentially maintained even in PNIPAAm gels, although enzymatic reaction rate was apparently controlled by temperature, i.e., by the degree of swelling of PNIPAAm gels. Further, the control of enzymatic reaction synchronizing the phase transition of PNIPAAm gels immobilized bioconjugates. PNIPAAm gels could immobilize core‐shell type bioconjugates, and were successfully prepared without interfering with the properties of temperature‐responsive polymer gels and the bionanoreactor. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The morphology and ionic conductivity of poly(1‐n‐alkyl‐3‐vinylimidazolium)‐based homopolymers polymerized from ionic liquids were investigated as a function of the alkyl chain length and counterion type. In general, X‐ray scattering showed three features: (i) backbone‐to‐backbone, (ii) anion‐to‐anion, and (iii) pendant‐to‐pendant characteristic distances. As the alkyl chain length increases, the backbone‐to‐backbone separation increases. As the size of counterion increases, the anion‐to‐anion scattering peak becomes apparent and its correlation length increases. The X‐ray scattering features shift to lower angles as the temperature increases due to thermal expansion. The ionic conductivity results show that the glass transition temperature (Tg) is a dominant, but not exclusive, parameter in determining ion transport. The Tg‐independent ionic conductivity decreases as the backbone‐to‐backbone spacing increases. Further interpretation of the ionic conductivity using the Vogel–Fulcher–Tammann equation enabled the correlation between polymer morphology and ionic conductivity, which highlights the importance of anion hoping between adjacent polymer backbones. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Thermoresponsive nanoparticles based on the interaction of metallacarboranes, bulky chaotropic and surface‐active anions, and poly(2‐alkyl‐2‐oxazoline) block copolymers were prepared. Recently, the great potential of metallacarboranes have been recognized in biomedicine and many delivery nanosystems have been proposed. However, none of them are thermoresponsive. Therefore, a thermoresponsive block copolymer, poly(2‐methyl‐2‐oxazoline)‐block‐poly(2‐n‐propyl‐2‐oxazoline) (PMeOx–PPrOx), was synthesized to encapsulate metallacarboranes. Light scattering, NMR spectroscopy, isothermal titration calorimetry, and cryogenic TEM were used to characterize all solutions of the formed nanoparticles. The cloud‐point temperature (TCP) of the block copolymer was observed at 30 °C and polymeric micelles formed above this temperature. Cobalt bis(dicarbollide) anion (COSAN) interacts with both polymeric segments. Depending on the COSAN concentration, this affinity influenced the phase transition of the thermoresponsive PPrOx block. The TCP shifted to lower values at a lower COSAN content. At higher COSAN concentrations, the hybrid nanoparticles are fragmented into relatively small pieces. This system is also thermoresponsive, whereby an increase in temperature leads to higher polymer mobility and COSAN release.  相似文献

In this research, thermoresponsive and conductive fibers with core‐sheath structure were fabricated by coaxial electrospinning. For preparing the spinning sheath solution, poly‐(N‐isopropylacrylamide‐co‐N‐methylolacrylamide) (PNN) copolymer having thermoresponsive and cross‐linkable properties was synthesized by free‐radical polymerization using redox initiators; it was then mixed with the conductive poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrene sulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) at different weight ratios in water. On the other hand, poly(butyl acrylate‐co‐styrene) (PBS) copolymer synthesized by emulsion polymerization was dissolved in chloroform and used as the spinning core solution. After electrospinning, the fibers were treated at 110 °C for 1 h to cross‐link the PNN portion in the sheath for strengthening the fibers. Well‐defined core‐sheath fibers were observed from SEM pictures; the outside and inside (core) diameters were 568 ± 24 and 290 ± 40 nm, respectively, as determined from TEM pictures. The fiber mats were further doped by DMSO to enhance their conductivity. For the fiber mat with the weight ratio of PEDOT:PSS/PNN at 0.20 in the sheath, its surface conductivity could reach 29.4 S/cm. In addition, the fiber mats exhibited thermoresponsive properties that both swelling ratio and electric resistance decreased with temperature. Furthermore, the fiber mats exhibited improved flexibility as evaluated via bending test. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. Chem. 2016 , 54, 1299–1307  相似文献

A new series of monoepoxide terminated controlled epoxy networks (CENs) and a corresponding soluble fraction polymer (SFP) were prepared to further investigate the effects of chain termination on epoxy thermoset structure‐property relationships. CENs having an initial molecular weight between crosslinks (Mc,i) of ~3000 g/mol using phenylglycidyl ether (PGE) as the chain terminator have thermal and mechanical properties consistent with previously studied monophenol terminated CENs. Glass transition temperature (Tg) decreases monotonically with PGE concentration (ε), whereas fracture toughness decreases sharply at a critical PGE concentration (εc). A PGE terminated SFP was prepared corresponding to the soluble fraction expected for the CEN composition at εc. The SFP behaves as a weak antiplasticizer in these epoxy thermosets; Tg is reduced and follows the inverse rule of mixtures, and fracture toughness is slightly reduced. By difference it is inferred that most of the deterioration of epoxy thermoset properties resulting from incorporation of chain terminators above εc is a result of the presence of nonelastically active pendant chains and by the increase in Mc. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Temperature sensitive poly{N‐[3‐(dimethylaminopropyl)]methacrylamide‐co‐acrylamide} [P(DMAPMA‐co‐AAm)] hydrogels were prepared by the free‐radical crosslinking copolymerization of corresponding monomers in water with N,N‐methylenebisacrylamide as the crosslinker, ammonium persulfate as the initiator, and N,N,N′,N′‐tetramethylethylenediamine as the activator. The swelling equilibrium of the P(DMAPMA‐co‐AAm) hydrogels was investigated as a function of temperature in aqueous solutions of the anionic surfactant sodium dodecyl sulfate and the cationic surfactant dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide. In pure water, regardless of the amount of N,N‐methylenebisacrylamide, the P(DMAPMA‐co‐AAm) hydrogels showed a discontinuous phase transition between 30 and 36 °C. However, the transition temperature changed from discontinuous to continuous with the addition of surfactants; this was ascribed to the conversion of nonionic P(DMAPMA‐co‐AAm) hydrogels into polyelectrolyte hydrogels due to the binding of surfactants through hydrophobic interactions. Additionally, the concentrations of free sodium dodecyl sulfate and dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide ions were measured at different temperatures by conductometry, and it was found that the electric conductivity of the P(DMAPMA‐co‐AAm)–surfactant systems depended strongly on the swelling ratio; most notably, it changed drastically near the phase‐transition temperature of the P(DMAPMA‐co‐AAm) hydrogel. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Here we report the preparation of PEG‐based thermoresponsive hyperbranched polymers via a facile in situ reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) copolymerization using bis(thiobenzoyl) disulphide to form 2‐cyanoprop‐2‐yl dithiobenzoate in situ. This novel one‐pot in situ RAFT approach was studied firstly using methyl methacrylate (MMA) monomer, then was used to prepare thermoresponsive hyperbranched polymers by copolymerization of poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate (PEGMEMA, Mn = 475), poly(propylene glycol) methacrylate (PPGMA, Mn = 375) and up to 30 % of ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) as the branching agent. The resultant PEGMEMA‐PPGMA‐EGDMA copolymers from in situ RAFT were characterized by Gel Permeation Chromatography (GPC) and 1H‐NMR analysis. The results confirmed the copolymers with multiple methacrylate groups and hyperbranched structure as well as RAFT functional residues. These water‐soluble copolymers with tailored compositions demonstrated tuneable lower critical solution temperature (LCST) from 22 °C to 32 °C. The phase transition temperature can be further altered by post functionalization via aminolysis of RAFT agent residues in polymer chains. Moreover, it was demonstrated by rheological studies and particle size measurements that these copolymers can form either micro‐ or macro photocrosslinked gels at suitable concentrations due to the presence of multiple methacrylate groups. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The upper liquid–liquid transition (Tlρ) was detected and investigated in unsaturated polyesters. This less known transition is caused by a stepwise decrease of intramolecular short‐range local order that remains above the glass and lower liquid–liquid transitions. The local order is based on secondary valent interactions and is enhanced by hydrogen bonding, if possible, as in the polyesters under consideration. The Tlρ was detected as a change in the temperature dependence of the viscosity and electrical conductivity and differential scanning calorimetry thermograms revealed an endothermic change, above which the activation energy of crosslinking decreased. The Tlρ temperature was lower in a polyester containing a diole with more flexible structure. The changes in electrical conductivity and 1H NMR spectra indicated that the breaking of hydrogen bonding caused the Tlρ. Its intramolecular nature resulted in low sensitivity to crosslinking and addition of solvents. Near‐IR spectroscopy was chosen for further investigation because of its greater sensitivity to structural changes in polymers than mid‐IR. The spectra were recorded at selected temperatures. Significant intensity changes and wavelength shifts of hydroxyl and carbonyl absorptions at 1430 and between 1900 and 2100 nm, respectively, occurred at the Tlρ, while carbon–hydrogen absorptions showed only minor changes. This confirmed that breaking of the hydrogen bonding was responsible for disruption of the short‐range local order. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A novel copolymer based on supramolecular motif 2,6‐diaminopyridine and water‐soluble acrylamide, poly[N‐(6‐acetamidopyridin‐2‐yl) acrylamide‐co‐acrylamide], was synthesized via reversible addition–fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization with various monomer compositions. The thermoresponsive behavior of the copolymers was studied by turbidimetry and dynamic light scattering (DLS). The obtained copolymers showed an upper critical solution temperature (UCST)‐type phase transition behavior in water and electrolyte solution. The phase transition temperature was found to increase with decreasing amount of acrylamide in the copolymer and increasing concentration of the solution. Furthermore, the phase transition temperature varied in aqueous solutions of electrolytes according to the nature and concentration of the electrolyte in accordance with the Hoffmeister series. A dramatic solvent isotope effect on the transition temperature was observed in this study, as the transition temperature was almost 10–12 °C higher in D2O than in H2O at the same concentration and acrylamide composition. The size of the aggregates below the transition temperature was larger in D2O compared to that in H2O that can be explained by deuterium isotope effect. The thermoresponsive behavior of the copolymers was also investigated in different cell medium and found to be exhibited UCST‐type phase transition behavior in different cell medium. Such behavior of the copolymers can be useful in many applications including biomedical, microfluidics, optical materials, and in drug delivery. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Copolyimides were synthesized in N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidone (NMP) to prepare polyimide (PI) solutions with various concentrations, and gels can form in PI/NMP solution with a suitable concentration or at a low temperature. Gel–sol transition in the PI/NMP solution has been investigated through a combination of polarized optical microscope, differential scanning calorimeter measurement, and rheological measurements. According to Winter–Chambon theory, the critical gel point is 12 wt %, and the loss tangent (tan δ) shows frequency independence. Gel–sol transition temperature (Tgel) for the 13 wt % solution is around 65 °C. Below the Tgel, the gel exhibits strong optical planar texture, indicating the formation of a fully anisotropic phase, which has a great importance for the fabrication of PI fibers by gel‐spinning. Dynamic temperature sweep measurements show that the formation of the gel from solution is thermoreversible and is significantly delayed in the cooling process. Under the favorable conditions, the tensile strength and modulus of the fibers derived from the solution are about 0.7 and 12.5 GPa using gel‐spinning method, which is believed to afford broad application potential in preparing high‐performance PI fibers. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
