4,4′‐(1,4‐Phenylenedioxy)dibenzoic acid as well as the 2‐methyl‐, 2‐tert‐butyl‐, or 2‐phenyl‐substituted derivatives of this dicarboxylic acid were synthesized in two main steps from p‐fluorobenzonitrile and hydroquinone or its methyl‐, tert‐butyl‐, or phenyl‐substituted derivatives. Polyhydrazides and poly(amide–hydrazide)s were prepared from these bis(ether benzoic acid)s or their diacyl chlorides with terephthalic dihydrazide, isophthalic dihydrazide, or p‐aminobenzoyl hydrazide by means of the phosphorylation reaction or low‐temperature solution polycondensation. Most of the hydrazide polymers and copolymers are amorphous and readily soluble in various polar solvents such as N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidone (NMP) and dimethyl sulfoxide. They could be solution‐cast into transparent, flexible, and tough films. These polyhydrazides and poly(amide–hydrazide)s had Tgs in the range of 167–237°C and could be thermally cyclodehydrated into the corresponding poly(1,3,4‐oxadiazole)s and poly(amide–1,3,4‐oxadiazole)s approximately in the region of 250–350°C, as evidenced by the DSC thermograms. All the tert‐butyl‐substituted oxadiazole polymers and those derived from isophthalic dihydrazide were organic soluble. The thermally converted oxadiazole polymers exhibited Tgs in the range of 208–243°C and did not show significant weight loss before 450°C either in nitrogen or in air. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Three new poly(p‐phenylenevinylene)‐based polymers containing two 1,3,4‐oxadiazole moieties in the main chain per repeat unit were synthesized by Heck coupling. A single, double, or triple bond was introduced between the oxadiazoles to provide a means for modifying the polymer properties. The polymers were readily soluble in common organic solvents and showed Tg values lower than 50 °C. The color of the emissive light in both the solid state and the solution could be tuned by a change in the nature of the bond between the oxadiazole rings. The polymers emitted ultraviolet‐green light in solution with a photoluminescence (PL) emission maximum at 345–483 nm and blue‐green light at 458–542 nm in thin films. The PL quantum yields in solution were 0.36–0.43. The electrochemical properties are affected by the nature of the bond between the oxadiazoles as well. In polymers with a single bond between the oxadiazoles, a lower ionization potential was observed than in polymers with a double or triple bond. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of poly(amide–imide)s IIIa–m containing flexible isopropylidene and ether groups in the backbone were synthesized by the direct polycondensation of 4,4′‐[1,4‐phenylenebis(isopropylidene‐1,4‐phenyleneoxy)]dianiline (PIDA) with various bis(trimellitimide)s IIa–m in N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidone (NMP) using triphenyl phosphite and pyridine as condensing agents. The resulting poly(amide–imide)s had inherent viscosities in the range of 0.80–1.36 dL/g. Except for those from the bis(trimellitimide)s of p‐phenylenediamine and benzidine, all the polymers could be cast from DMAc into transparent and tough films. They exhibited excellent solubility in polar solvents. The 10% weight loss temperatures of the polymers in air and in nitrogen were all above 495°C, and their Tg values were in the range of 201–252°C. Some properties of poly(amide–imide)s III were compared with those of the corresponding poly(amide–imide)s V prepared from the bis(trimellitimide) of diamine PIDA and various aromatic diamines. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Starting from the pyrylium salt and following a facile synthetic route, we synthesized and polymerized 4,4″‐diiodo‐2′,6′‐di[4‐(2′‐ethylhexyl)oxy]phenyl‐p‐terphenyl with p‐divinylbenzene or p‐diethynylbenzene. The resulting polymers had moderate molecular weights, were amorphous, and dissolved in tetrahydrofuran and chloroform, with glass‐transition temperatures of 120–131 °C. The polymers behaved as violet‐blue‐emitting materials with photoluminescence maxima around 420 and 450 nm in solution and in thin films, respectively. They possessed well‐defined chromophores resulting from steric interactions in the polymer chain. The photoluminescence quantum yields were up to 0.29. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Two novel poly(p‐phenylene vinylene) polymers, which carried side substituents with cyano groups or 1,3,4‐oxadiazole, were synthesized by Heck coupling. They consisted of alternating conjugated segments and nonconjugated aliphatic spacers. The polymers had moderate molecular weights, were amorphous, and dissolved readily in tetrahydrofuran and halogenated organic solvents. They were stable up to approximately 340 °C in N2 and 290 °C in air, and the anaerobic char yield was around 60% at 800 °C. The polymer with cyano side groups emitted blue light in solutions and thin films with identical photoluminescence (PL) maximum at 450 nm; this supported the idea that chain interactions were hindered even in the solid state. The PL maximum of this polymer in thin films was blueshifted upon annealing at 120 °C, indicating a thermochromic effect as a result of conformational changes in the polymer backbone. The polymer containing side substituents with oxadiazole rings emitted blue light in solutions with a PL maximum at 474 nm and blue‐greenish light in thin films with a PL maximum at 511 nm. The PL quantum yields of the polymers in tetrahydrofuran were 0.13–0.24. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 42: 1768–1778, 2004  相似文献

A new ether‐bridged aromatic dicarboxylic acid, 2′,5′‐bis(4‐carboxyphenoxy)‐p‐terphenyl ( 3 ), was synthesized by the aromatic fluoro‐displacement reaction of p‐fluorobenzonitrile with 2′,5′‐dihydroxy‐p‐terphenyl in the presence of potassium carbonate, followed by alkaline hydrolysis. A set of new aromatic polyamides containing ether and laterally attached p‐terphenyl units was synthesized by the direct phosphorylation polycondensation of diacid 3 with various aromatic diamines. The polymers were produced with high yields and moderately high inherent viscosities (0.44–0.79 dL/g). The polyamides derived from 3 and rigid diamines, such as p‐phenylenediamine and benzidine, and a structurally analogous diamine, 2′,5′‐bis(4‐aminophenoxy)‐p‐terphenyl, were semicrystalline and insoluble in organic solvents. The other polyamides were amorphous and organosoluble and could afford flexible and tough films via solution casting. These films exhibited good mechanical properties, with tensile strengths of 91–108 MPa, elongations to break of 6–17%, and initial moduli of 1.95–2.43 GPa. These polyamides showed glass‐transition temperatures between 193 and 252 °C. Most of the polymers did not show significant weight loss before 450 °C, as revealed by thermogravimetric analysis in nitrogen or in air. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A novel bis(ether anhydride) monomer, 2′,5′‐bis(3,4‐dicarboxyphenoxy)‐p‐terphenyl dianhydride, was synthesized from the nitro displacement of 4‐nitrophthalonitrile by the phenoxide ion of 2′,5′‐dihydroxy‐p‐terphenyl, followed by alkaline hydrolysis of the intermediate bis(ether dinitrile) and cyclodehydration of the resulting bis(ether diacid). A series of new poly(ether imide)s bearing laterally attached p‐terphenyl groups were prepared from the bis(ether anhydride) with various aromatic diamines via a conventional two‐stage process that included ring‐opening polyaddition to form the poly(amic acid)s followed by thermal or chemical imidization to the poly(ether imide)s. The inherent viscosities of the poly(amic acid) precursors were in the range of 0.62–1.26 dL/g. Most of the poly(ether imide)s obtained from both routes were soluble in polar organic solvents, such as N,N‐dimethylacetamide. All the poly(ether imide)s could afford transparent, flexible, and strong films with high tensile strengths. The glass‐transition temperatures of these poly(ether imide)s were recorded as between 214 and 276 °C by DSC. The softening temperatures of all the poly(ether imide) films stayed in the 207–265 °C range according to thermomechanical analysis. For all the polymers significant decomposition did not occur below 500 °C in nitrogen or air atmosphere. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 42: 1008–1017, 2004  相似文献

A series of new poly(imide‐hydrazide)s and poly(amide‐imide‐hydrazide)s were obtained by the direct polycondensation of N‐[p‐(or m‐)carboxyphenyl]trimellitimide (p‐ or m‐CPTMI) with terephthalic dihydrazide (TPH), isophthalic dihydrazide (IPH), and p‐aminobenzhydrazide (p‐ABH) by means of diphenyl phosphite and pyridine in the N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidone (NMP) solutions containing dissolved CaCl2. The resulting hydrazide‐containing polymers exhibited inherent viscosities in the 0.15–0.96 dL/g range. Except for that derived from p‐CPTMI with TPH or p‐ABH, the other hydrazide copolymers were readily soluble in polar solvents such as NMP and dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). As evidenced by X‐ray diffraction patterns, the hydrazide copolymer obtained from TPH showed a moderate level of crystallinity, whereas the others were amorphous in nature. Most of the amorphous hydrazide copolymers formed flexible and tough films by solvent casting. The amorphous hydrazide copolymers had glass‐transition temperatures (Tg) between 187 and 233 °C. All hydrazide copolymers could be thermally converted into the corresponding oxadiazole copolymers approximately in the region of 250–400 °C, as evidenced by the DSC thermograms. The oxadiazole copolymers showed a significantly decreased solubility when compared to their respective hydrazide precursors. They exhibited Tg's of 264–302 °C and did not show dramatic weight loss before 400 °C in air or nitrogen. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci A: Polym Chem 38: 1599–1608, 2000  相似文献

This article concerns the hydrosilylation polyaddition of 1,4‐bis(dimethylsilyl)benzene ( 1 ) with 4,4′‐diethynylbiphenyl, 2,7‐diethynylfluorene ( 2b ), and 2,6‐diethynylnaphthalene with RhI(PPh3)3 catalyst. Trans‐rich polymers with weight‐average molecular weights (Mw's) ranging from 19,000 to 25,000 were obtained by polyaddition in o‐Cl2C6H4 at 150–180 °C, whereas cis‐rich polymers with Mw's from 4300 to 34,000 were obtained in toluene at 0 °C–r.t. These polymers emitted blue light in 4–81% quantum yields. The cis polymers isomerized into trans polymers upon UV irradiation, whereas the trans polymers did not. The device having a layer of polymer trans‐ 3b obtained from 1 and 2b demonstrated electroluminescence without any dopant. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. New chiral binaphthyl‐based polyarylenes [(S)‐ 3a and (S)‐ 3b ] with appendant Fréchet‐type poly(aryl ether) dendrons (first generation and second generation) were synthesized with Suzuki polycondensation from chiral (S)‐6,6′‐dibromo‐2,2′‐didendron‐substituted 1,1′‐binaphthyl derivatives and p‐phenylene diboronic acid. The polymers were studied with circular dichroism, fluorescence, and ultraviolet–visible spectra. Laser light scattering measurements of (S)‐ 3a and (S)‐ 3b showed that their weight‐average molecular weights were 2.39 × 105 and 1.09 × 104, respectively. The specific optical rotation [α]D was ?59.6 for (S)‐ 3a and ?62.7 for (S)‐ 3b . These dendronized conjugated polymers exhibited good thermal stability. The glass‐transition temperatures and the initial decomposition temperatures were 187.5 and 265.3 °C for (S)‐ 3a and 173.8 and 308.9 °C for (S)‐ 3b , respectively. (S)‐ 3a and (S)‐ 3b had high fluorescence quantum efficiencies, 87 and 91%, respectively, in tetrahydrofuran. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of new soluble poly(amide‐imide)s were prepared from the diimide‐dicarboxylic acid 2,2‐bis[4‐(4‐trimellitimidophenoxy)phenyl]hexafluoropropane with various diamines by direct polycondensation in N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidinone containing CaCl2 with triphenyl phosphite and pyridine as condensing agents. All the polymers were obtained in quantitative yields with inherent viscosities of 0.52–0.86 dL · g?1. The poly(amide‐imide)s showed an amorphous nature and were readily soluble in various solvents, such as N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidinone, N,N‐dimethylacetamide (DMAc), N,N‐dimethylformamide, pyridine, and cyclohexanone. Tough and flexible films were obtained through casting from DMAc solutions. These polymer films had tensile strengths of 71–107 MPa and a tensile modulus range of 1.6–2.7 GPa. The glass‐transition temperatures of the polymers were determined by a differential scanning calorimetry method, and they ranged from 242 to 279 °C. These polymers were fairly stable up to a temperature around or above 400 °C, and they lost 10% of their weight from 480 to 536 °C and 486 to 537 °C in nitrogen and air, respectively. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Polyhydrazides and poly(amide‐hydrazide)s were prepared from two ether‐sulfone‐dicarboxylic acids, 4,4′‐[sulfonylbis(1,4‐phenylene)dioxy]dibenzoic acid and 4,4′‐[sulfonylbis(2,6‐dimethyl‐1,4‐phenylene)dioxy]dibenzoic acid, or their diacyl chlorides with terephthalic dihydrazide, isophthalic dihydrazide, and p‐aminobenzhydrazide via a phosphorylation reaction or a low‐temperature solution polycondensation. All the hydrazide polymers were found to be amorphous according to X‐ray diffraction analysis. They were readily soluble in polar organic solvents such as N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidone and N,N‐dimethylacetamide and could afford colorless, flexible, and tough films with good mechanical strengths via solvent casting. These hydrazide polymers exhibited glass‐transition temperatures of 149–207 °C and could be thermally cyclodehydrated into the corresponding oxadiazole polymers in the solid state at elevated temperatures. Although the oxadiazole polymers showed a significantly decreased solubility with respect to their hydrazide prepolymers, some oxadiazole polymers were still organosoluble. The thermally converted oxadiazole polymers had glass‐transition temperatures of 217–255 °C and softening temperatures of 215–268 °C and did not show significant weight loss before 400 °C in nitrogen or air. For a comparative study, related sulfonyl polymers without the ether groups were also synthesized from 4,4′‐sulfonyldibenzoic acid and the hydrazide monomers by the same synthetic routes. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Poly(9,9‐dihexylfluorene‐2,7‐vinylene‐alt‐dibenzothiophene‐2,8‐vinylene) (PS) and poly(9,9‐dihexylfluorene‐2,7‐vinylene‐alt‐dibenzothiophene‐5,5‐dioxide‐2,8‐ vinylene) (PSO) as well as corresponding model compounds were synthesized by Heck coupling. Both the polymers and model compounds were readily soluble in common organic solvents such as tetrahydrofuran, dichloromethane, chloroform, and toluene. The polymers showed a decomposition temperature at ~430 °C and a char yield of about 65% at 800 °C in N2. The glass‐transition temperatures of the polymers were almost identical (75–77 °C) and higher than those of the model compounds (26–45 °C). All samples absorbed around 390 nm, and their optical band gaps were 2.69–2.85 eV. They behaved as blue‐greenish light emitting materials in both solutions and thin films, with photoluminescence emission maxima at 450–483 nm and photoluminescence quantum yields of 0.52–0.72 in solution. Organic light‐emitting diodes with an indium tin oxide/poly(ethylene dioxythiophene):poly(styrene sulfonic acid)/polymer/Mg:Ag/Ag configuration with polymers PS and PSO as emitting layers showed green electroluminescence with maxima at 530 and 540 nm, respectively. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new dialdehyde monomer, 4,4′‐(hexafluoroisopropylidine) bis(p‐phenoxy) benzaldehyde, was prepared; it led to a number of novel poly‐Schiff bases in reactions with different diamines, such as 4,4′‐diaminidiphenyl ether, 4,4′‐(isopropylidine) bis(p‐phenoxy) dianiline, 4,4′‐(hexafluoroisopropylidine) bis(p‐phenoxy) dianiline, and benzidine. The polymers were characterized with viscosity measurements, nitrogen analyses, and IR and 1H NMR spectroscopy. These poly‐Schiff bases showed good thermal stability up to 491 °C for 10% weight loss in thermogravimetric analysis under air and high glass‐transition temperatures up to 215 °C in differential scanning calorimetry. These polymers were soluble in a wide range of organic solvents, such as CHCl3, dimethylformamide (DMF), dimethyl sulfoxide, and 1‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidon (NMP), and were insoluble in toluene and acetone. Two new poly(p‐phenylenevinylene) derivatives were prepared by Heck coupling. They contained alternating conjugated segments on the basis of p‐distyrylbenzene and flexible nonconjugated spacers. The synthesized polymers P1 and P2 carried two m‐terphenyl of four tertbutyl pendants, respectively, per repeat unit. Both polymers were amorphous and exhibited satisfactory thermal stability. Polymer P1 displayed a limited solubility in common organic solvents, whereas P2 dissolved readily in these solvents. The glass‐transition temperature values were 128 °C for P1 and 37 °C for P2 . The polymers emitted blue or violet‐blue light with photoluminescent maxima at about 445 and 460 nm for solutions and thin films, respectively. The bisphenol 4,4″‐dihydroxy‐5′‐phenyl‐m‐terphenyl ( 4 ), containing a 1,3,5‐triphenylbenzene moiety, was synthesized from a pyrylium salt obtained by the reaction of benzaldehyde with p‐methoxyacetophenone with boron trifluoride etherate as a condensing agent. Polymers were obtained from 4 by a nucleophilic displacement reaction with various activated difluoro monomers and with K2CO3 as a base. A series of new poly(arylene ether)s ( 8a – 8f ) were obtained that contained phenyl‐substituted m‐terphenyl segments in the polymer chain. Polymers with inherent viscosities of 0.41–0.99 dL/g were obtained in yields greater than 96%. The polymers were soluble in a variety of organic solvents, including nonpolar solvents such as toluene. Clear, transparent, and flexible films cast from CHCl3 showed high glass‐transition temperatures (Tg = 198–270 °C) and had excellent thermal stability, as shown by temperatures of 5% weight loss greater than 500 °C. 4 was converted via N,N‐dimethyl‐O‐thiocarbamate into the masked dithiol 4,4″‐bis(N,N′‐dimethyl‐S‐thiocarbamate)‐5′‐phenyl‐m‐terphenyl and was polymerized with activated difluoro compounds in the presence of a mixture of Cs2CO3 and CaCO3 as a base in diphenyl sulfone as a solvent. A series of new poly(arylene thioether)s ( 9a – 9e ) were obtained with Tg values similar to those of 8a – 8e . 9a – 9e were further oxidized into poly(arylene sulfone)s with Tg values 40–80 °C higher than those for 8a – 8e and 9a – 9e . These polymers also had good solubility in organic solvents. A sulfonic acid group was selectively introduced onto the pendent phenyl group of polymers 8a and 8f by reaction with chlorosulfonic acid. The polymers were soluble in dipolar aprotic solvents and formed films via casting from dimethylformamide. Polymers 8a – 8f , 11a , and 11f showed blue and red fluorescence under ultraviolet–visible light with emission maxima at 380–440 nm. © 2002 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A new series of highly phenyl‐substituted polyfluorene derivatives were synthesized and characterized. The resulting polymers were amorphous and showed excellent solubility in common organic solvents, such as chloroform, tetrahydrofuran, xylene, toluene, chlorobenzene, and so forth. All possessed satisfied thermal stability with glass‐transition temperatures (Tg's) in the range of 79–115 °C. They emitted blue light with photoluminescent (PL) maximum peaks at about 408–412 nm in thin films. The PL efficiencies of the polymer films were measured around 30–33%. The highly phenylated pendants improved the Tg of polyfluorene without forming defects in the polymers and reduced their tendency to form aggregate/excimers. Polymer light‐emitting diodes were fabricated from these polymers with the configuration of indium tin oxide/polyethylenedioxythiophene:polystyrene sulfonic acid/polymer/Ba/Al, which emitted bright blue light with maximum peaks at 418–420 nm. The maximum external quantum efficiencies of these devices were 0.41–0.6%. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 42: 2985–2993, 2004  相似文献

New high temperature polyaryleneetherketone triphenylphosphine oxides incorporating trans‐1,4‐cyclohexane, 1,3‐adamantane, and 4,9‐diamantane structural units were synthesized by the base‐promoted polymerization reaction between 4,4′‐difluorotriphenylphosphine oxide and the novel dihydroxy monomers trans‐1,4‐bis(4‐hydroxybenzoyl)cyclohexane, 1,3‐bis(4‐hydroxybenzoyl)adamantane, and 4,9‐bis(4‐hydroxybenzoyl)diamantane. The monomers were synthesized in a good yield by a two‐step procedure involving the Friedel–Crafts acylation of anisole by the diacid chlorides trans‐1,4‐cyclohexanedicarbonyl chloride, 1,3‐adamantanedicarbonyl chloride, and 4,9‐diamantanedicarbonyl chloride, followed by demethylation with pyridine hydrochloride. The polymers, which could be processed into tough, free standing films from organic solvents, exhibited high Tg's in the range of 192–239° as well as thermooxidative stabilities (5% weight loss in air) in the range of 445–490°. Preliminary results from a UV–visible spectroscopic study of dilute solutions of the polymers in chloroform showed absorption maxima in the 263–274 nm region and transparency to spectral radiation in the 300–800 nm range, indicating that these triphenylphosphine oxide polymers could have potential applications for space thermal control coatings. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Based on green chemistry, a simple and efficient direct synthesis of 4‐(4′‐hydroxyaryl)(2H)phthalazin‐1‐ones ( 2a–2f ) was developed in a two‐step reaction, in which the Friedel–Crafts acylation reaction of six phenols with phthalic anhydride was initially carried out and then followed by cyclization with hydrazine hydrate in good to excellent yields with high regioselectivity. A number of novel heterocyclic poly(arylene ether ketone)s were prepared conveniently from several unsymmetrical, twist, and noncoplanar phthalazinone‐containing monomers ( 2a–2f ) and an activated difluoro monomer via a N? C coupling reaction. It was very interesting that the obtained monomers and polymers exhibited diverse properties with the variation of the number and location of the substituted methyl groups. All these polymers had a high molecular weight with Mn and ηinh in the range of 44,960–169,000 Da and 0.38–0.79 dL/g, respectively. Actually, the obtained polymers displayed excellent thermal properties with Tg's ranging from 222 to 248 °C and 5% weight loss temperatures in nitrogen higher than 430 °C. Moreover, these polymers were readily soluble in common organic solvents, such as N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidone, chloroform, pyridine, and m‐cresol, and could be cast into flexible and colorless or nearly colorless films by spin‐coating or casting processes. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Two series of polyimides based on laterally attached p‐terphenyl and biphenyl groups were synthesized. The solubility and thermal properties were studied using DSC, thermogravimetric analysis, and the solubility test. These polymers exhibited good thermal stability and excellent solubility. The high solubility for both polymer series was attributed to the non‐coplanarity of diamine monomers and the use of fluorinated dianhydride, whereas the slightly better solubility for polymers based on p‐terphenyl was attributed to further weakening of interchain interaction of the polymers. Both polymer series exhibited glass‐transition temperatures (Tg's) in the range of 244–272 °C. The Tg's of polymers containing laterally attached p‐terphenyls were higher than those of their counterparts containing biphenyls by 5–17 °C. This was attributed to the formation of an interdigitated structure that hinders the segmental movement of polymer chains. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
