Let be a planar regular region whose Schottky double has genus and set . For fixed we determine the range of the function where is the Riemann theta function on . Also we introduce two weighted Hardy spaces to study the problem when the matrix is positive definite. The proof relies on new theta identities using Fay's trisecants formula.

The aim of this paper is to study the spectral properties of . We show that in general the set-valued function is discontinuous even in inner points and show that each operator satisfies the local uniqueness-of-resolvent condition of Ransford. Further we study connections with the real interpolation method.

Rankin and Swinnerton-Dyer (1970) prove that all zeros of the Eisenstein series in the standard fundamental domain for lie on . In this paper we generalize their theorem, providing conditions under which the zeros of other modular forms lie only on the arc . Using this result we prove a speculation of Ono, namely that the zeros of the unique ``gap function" in , the modular form with the maximal number of consecutive zero coefficients in its -expansion following the constant , has zeros only on . In addition, we show that the -invariant maps these zeros to totally real algebraic integers of degree bounded by a simple function of weight .

S.-Y. A. Chang and D. E. Marshall showed that the functional is bounded on the unit ball of the space of analytic functions in the unit disk with and Dirichlet integral not exceeding one. Andreev and Matheson conjectured that the identity function is a global maximum on for the functional . We prove that attains its maximum at over a subset of determined by kernel functions, which provides a positive answer to a conjecture of Cima and Matheson.

Let be a finite system of residue classes which forms an -cover of (i.e., every integer belongs to at least members of ). In this paper we show the following sharp result: For any positive integers and , if there is such that the fractional part of is , then there are at least such subsets of . This extends an earlier result of M. Z. Zhang and an extension by Z. W. Sun. Also, we generalize the above result to -covers of the integral ring of any algebraic number field with a power integral basis.

The famous problem involves applying two maps: and to positive integers. If is even, one applies , if it is odd, one applies . The conjecture states that each trajectory of the system arrives to the periodic orbit . In this paper, instead of choosing each time which map to apply, we allow ourselves more freedom and apply both and independently of . That is, we consider the action of the free semigroup with generators and on the space of positive real numbers. We prove that this action is minimal (each trajectory is dense) and that the periodic points are dense. Moreover, we give a full characterization of the group of transformations of the real line generated by and .

A Weyl-Heisenberg frame


for allows every function to be written as an infinite linear combination of translated and modulated versions of the fixed function . In the present paper we find sufficient conditions for to be a frame for , which, in general, might just be a subspace of . Even our condition for to be a frame for is significantly weaker than the previous known conditions. The results also shed new light on the classical results concerning frames for , showing for instance that the condition A>0$">is not necessary for to be a frame for . Our work is inspired by a recent paper by Benedetto and Li, where the relationship between the zero-set of the function and frame properties of the set of functions is analyzed.

A topological space is pseudoradial if each of its non closed subsets has a sequence (not necessarily with countable length) convergent to outside of . We prove the following results concerning pseudoradial spaces and the spaces , where is an ultrafilter on :

(i) CH implies that, for every ultrafilter on , is a subspace of some regular pseudoradial space.

(ii) There is a model in which, for each P-point , cannot be embedded in a regular pseudoradial space while there is a point such that is a subspace of a zero-dimensional Hausdorff pseudoradial space.
