Facile synthesis of multi‐branched gold nanostructures by using the tetrabutyl ammonium bromide (TBAB) as a capping agent is described. The reaction is carried out in a one‐step process at mild temperature. Gold nanostructures with more than six sharp branches ranging from 70 to 130 nm in length are synthesized in high yield. It is proposed that the relative weak adsorption capacity of TBAB leads to the incompletely covered gold surface and the growth of nanoparticles occurs on the uncovered gold surface, and therefore short branches appear consequently. Then positively charged TBAB layers on the gold surfaces prevent the branches from aggregating with each other which stimulates the branch growth. The prepared branched gold nanoparticles show efficient surface‐enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) properties. Low temperature (4°C) is unfavorable to the formation of multi‐branched gold nanostructures, and only thin small irregular plate‐like nanoparticles are produced. The addition of SDS in TBAB aqueous solution results in forming SDS micelles at much lower concentration of SDS (0.4 mmol/L) as compared to that in pure water, and short branched gold nanoparticles are obtained in the SDS‐TBAB system.  相似文献

Access to multifunctionality at the nanoscale requires the development of hybrid nanostructures that combine materials of different natures. In this line of thought, current research on coordination polymers is not only focusing on their synthesis at the nanoscale, but also on combining these polymers with other materials. According to a novel and rational approach, single‐layer Au@Prussian blue analogue (PBA) and double‐layer Au@PBA@PBA′ core–shell nanoparticles (NPs) may be obtained through the growth of a cyano‐bridged coordination network on the gold surface. The nanosized heterostructures combine the plasmonic optical properties of the gold core and the magnetic properties of the PBA shell. Whereas the single‐layer nanoparticles are paramagnetic, the double‐layer nanostructures display ferromagnetism; therefore, the overall structural motif may be considered as multifunctional. The developed synthetic concept also includes an easy access to hollow PBA NPs.  相似文献

Herein, we report the design and synthesis of plasmonic/non‐linear optical (NLO) material core/shell nanostructures that can allow dynamic manipulation of light signals using an external electrical field and enable a new generation of nanoscale optical voltage sensors. We show that gold nanorods (Au NRs) can be synthesized with tunable plasmonic properties and function as the nucleation seeds for continued growth of a shell of NLO materials (such as polyaniline, PANI) with variable thickness. The formation of a PANI nanoshell allows dynamic modulation of the dielectric environment of the plasmonic Au NRs, and therefore the plasmonic resonance characteristics, by an external electrical field. The finite element simulation confirms that such modulation is originated from the field‐induced modulation of the dielectric constant of the NLO shell. This approach is general, and the coating of the Au NRs with other NLO materials (such as barium titanate, BTO) is found to produce a similar effect. These findings can not only open a new pathway to active modulation of plasmonic resonance at the sub‐wavelength scale but also enable the creation of a new generation of nanoscale optical voltage sensors (NOVS).  相似文献

Further progress in the applications of self-assembled nanostructures critically depends on developing a fundamental understanding of the relation between the properties of nanoparticle ensembles and their time-dependent structural characteristics. Following dynamic generation of hot-spots in the self-assembled chains of gold nanorods, we established a direct correlation between ensemble-averaged surface-enhanced Raman scattering and extinction properties of the chains. Experimental results were supported with comprehensive finite-difference time-domain simulations. The established relationship between the structure of nanorod ensembles and their optical properties provides the basis for creating dynamic, solution-based, plasmonic platforms that can be utilized in applications ranging from sensing to nanoelectronics.  相似文献

Novel silver-gold bimetallic nanostructures were prepared by seeding with silver nanoplates in the absence of any surfactants. During the synthesis process, it was found that the frameworks of silver nanoplates were normally kept though the basal plane of silver nanoplates became rugged. The real morphology of these nanostructures depended on the molar ratio of gold ions to the seed particles. When the molar ratio of gold ions to silver atoms increased from 0.5 to 4, porous or branched silver-gold bimetallic nanostructures could be made. The growth mechanism was qualitatively discussed based on template-engaged replacement reactions and seed-mediated deposition reactions. Due to the unusual structures, they exhibited interesting optical properties. Moreover, they were shown to be an active substrate for surface-enhanced Raman scattering measurements.  相似文献

DNA origami has rapidly emerged as a powerful and programmable method to construct functional nanostructures. However, the size limitation of approximately 100 nm in classic DNA origami hampers its plasmonic applications. Herein, we report a jigsaw‐puzzle‐like assembly strategy mediated by gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) to break the size limitation of DNA origami. We demonstrated that oligonucleotide‐functionalized AuNPs function as universal joint units for the one‐pot assembly of parent DNA origami of triangular shape to form sub‐microscale super‐origami nanostructures. AuNPs anchored at predefined positions of the super‐origami exhibited strong interparticle plasmonic coupling. This AuNP‐mediated strategy offers new opportunities to drive macroscopic self‐assembly and to fabricate well‐defined nanophotonic materials and devices.  相似文献

Gold nanorods have great potential in a variety of applications because of their unique physical properties. In this article, we present the layer-by-layer (LbL) assembly of thin films containing positively charged gold nanorods that are covalently functionalized by cationic thiol molecules. The cationic gold nanorods are uniformly distributed in ultrathin nanocomposite LbL thin films. We studied the collective surface plasmon resonance coupling in the LbL films via UV-visible spectroscopy and evaluated their application in the surface-enhanced Raman scattering detection of rhodamine 6G probe molecules. Furthermore, we successfully manufactured freestanding nanoscale thin films containing multilayers of gold nanorods with a total thickness of less than 50 nm. The surface morphology and their optical and mechanical properties were systematically investigated, and the polycationic gold nanorods were found to play an important role in manipulating the properties of the nanocomposite thin films. Our findings reveal that such nanorods are excellent building blocks for constructing functional LbL films with tunable plasmonic behavior and robust mechanical properties.  相似文献

Systematically controlling the morphology of nanoparticles, especially those growing from gold nanorod (AuNR) seeds, are underexplored; however, the AuNR and its related morphologies have shown promises in many applications. Herein we report the use of programmable DNA sequences to control AuNR overgrowth, resulting in gold nanoparticles varying from nanodumbbell to nanooctahedron, as well as shapes in between, with high yield and reproducibility. Kinetic studies revealed two representative pathways for the shape control evolving into distinct nanostructures. Furthermore, the geometric and plasmonic properties of the gold nanoparticles could be precisely controlled by adjusting the base compositions of DNA sequences or by introducing phosphorothioate modifications in the DNA. As a result, the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) peaks of the nanoparticles can be fine‐tuned in a wide range, from visible to second near‐infrared (NIR‐II) region beyond 1000 nm.  相似文献

Designing plasmonic hollow colloids with small interior nanogaps would allow structural properties to be exploited that are normally linked to an ensemble of particles but within a single nanoparticle. Now, a synthetic approach for constructing a new class of frame nanostructures is presented. Fine control over the galvanic replacement reaction of Ag nanoprisms with Au precursors gave unprecedented Au particle‐in‐a‐frame nanostructures with well‐defined sub‐2 nm interior nanogaps. The prepared nanostructures exhibited superior performance in applications, such as plasmonic sensing and surface‐enhanced Raman scattering, over their solid nanostructure and nanoframe counterparts. This highlights the benefit of their interior hot spots, which can highly promote and maximize the electric field confinement within a single nanostructure.  相似文献

Cellular heterogeneity presents a major challenge in understanding the relationship between cells of particular genotype and response in disease. In order to characterize the cell-to-cell differences during the biochemical processes, single-cell analysis is necessary. Profiting from the unique localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) and Mie scattering, plasmonic nanostructures have revealed stable and adjustable scattering signals, avoiding photobleaching, blinking and autofluorescence phenomenon. These characterizations are propitious to the dynamic trace and biological image of single living cells. In this review, we discuss the recent advances in plasmonic nanostructures applied for label-free detection and monitoring of target cells at single-cell level by using three different techniques, surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS), surface-enhanced Infrared absorption spectroscopy (SEIRAS), and dark-field microscopy. Various avenues to design plasmonic probes combining spectra and imaging for single-cell analysis are demonstrated as well. We hope this review can highlight the superiority of plasmonic nanostructures in single cellular analysis, and further motivate the development of label-free cell analysis technique to elucidate cellular diversity and heterogeneity.

A new route has been developed to design plasmonic pollen grain-like nanostructures (PGNSs) as surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS)-active substrate. The nanostructures consisting of silver (Ag) and gold (Au) nanoparticles along with zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoclusters as spacers were found highly SERS-active. The morphology of PGNSs and those obtained in the intermediate stage along with each elemental evolution has been investigated by a high-resolution field emission scanning electron microscopy. The optical band gaps and crystal structure have been identified by UV-vis absorption and X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) measurements, respectively. For PGNSs specimen, three distinct absorption bands related to constituent elements Ag, Au, and ZnO were observed, whereas XRD peaks confirmed the existence of Ag, Au, and ZnO within the composition of PGNSs. SERS-activity of PGNSs was confirmed using Rhodamine 6G (R6G) as Raman-active dyes. Air-cooled solid-state laser kits of 532 nm were used as excitation sources in SERS measurements. SERS enhancement factor was estimated for PGNSs specimen and was found as high as 3.5×106. Finite difference time domain analysis was carried out to correlate the electromagnetic (EM) near-field distributions with the experiment results achieved under this investigation. EM near-field distributions at different planes were extracted for s-, p- and 45° of incident polarizations. EM near-field distributions for such nanostructures as well as current density distributions under different circumstances were demonstrated and plausible scenarios were elucidated given SERS enhancements. Such generic fabrication route as well as correlated investigation is not only indispensable to realize the potential of SERS applications but also unveil the underneath plasmonic characteristics of complex SERS-active nanostructures.  相似文献

We design well‐defined metal‐semiconductor nanostructures using thiol‐functionalized CdTe quantum dots (QDs)/quantum rods (QRs) with bovine serum albumin (BSA) protein‐conjugated Au nanoparticles (NPs)/nanorods (NRs) in aqueous solution. The main focus of this article is to address the impacts of size and shape on the photophysical properties, including radiative and nonradiative decay processes and energy transfers, of Au‐CdTe hybrid nanostructures. The red shifting of the plasmonic band and the strong photoluminescence (PL) quenching reveal a strong interaction between plasmons and excitons in these Au‐CdTe hybrid nanostructures. The PL quenching of CdTe QDs varies from 40 to 86 % by changing the size and shape of the Au NPs. The radiative as well as the nonradiative decay rates of the CdTe QDs/QRs are found to be affected in the presence of both Au NPs and NRs. A significant change in the nonradiative decay rate from 4.72×106 to 3.92×1010 s?1 is obtained for Au NR‐conjugated CdTe QDs. It is seen that the sizes and shapes of the Au NPs have a pronounced effect on the distance‐dependent energy transfer. Such metal‐semiconductor hybrid nanostructures should have great potentials for nonlinear optical properties, photovoltaic devices, and chemical sensors.  相似文献

Herein, we show that copper nanostructures, if made anisotropic, can exhibit strong surface plasmon resonance comparable to that of gold and silver counterparts in the near‐infrared spectrum. Further, we demonstrate that a robust confined seeded growth strategy allows the production of high‐quality samples with excellent control over their size, morphology, and plasmon resonance frequency. As an example, copper nanorods (CuNRs) are successfully grown in a limited space of preformed rod‐shaped polymer nanocapsules, thereby avoiding the complex nucleation kinetics involved in the conventional synthesis. The method is unique in that it enables the flexible control and fine‐tuning of the aspect ratio and the plasmonic resonance. We also show the high efficiency and stability of the as‐synthesized CuNRs in photothermal conversion and demonstrate their incorporation into nanocomposite polymer films that can be used as active components for constructing light‐responsive actuators and microrobots.  相似文献

The emerging field of plasmonics, the study of electromagnetic responses of metal nanostructures, has revealed many novel signal enhancing phenomena. As applied to the development of label-free optical DNA biosensors, it is now well established that plasmon-based surface enhanced spectroscopies on nanostructured metal surfaces or metal nanoparticles can markedly improve the sensitivity of optical biosensors, with some showing great promise for single molecule detection. In this review, we first summarize the basic concepts of plasmonics in metal nanostructures, as well as the characteristic optical phenomena to which plasmons give rise. We will then describe recent advances in optical DNA biosensing systems enabled by metal nanoparticle-derived plasmonic effects, including the use of surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS), colorimetric methods, "scanometric" processes, and metal-enhanced fluorescence (MEF).  相似文献

Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) are regarded as promising building blocks in functional nanomaterials for sensing, drug delivery and catalysis. One remarkable property of these particles is the localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR), which gives rise to augmented optical properties through local field enhancement. LSPR also influences the nonlinear optical properties of metal NPs (MNPs) making them potentially interesting candidates for fast, high resolution nonlinear optical imaging. In this work we characterize and discuss the wavelength dependence of the hyper-Rayleigh scattering (HRS) behavior of spherical gold nanoparticles (GNP) and gold nanorods (GNR) in solution, from 850 nm up to 1300 nm, covering the near-infrared (NIR) window relevant for deep tissue imaging. The high-resolution spectral data allows discriminating between HRS and two photon photoluminescence contributions. Upon particle aggregation, we measured very large enhancements (ca. 104) of the HRS intensity in the NIR, which is explained by considering aggregation-induced plasmon coupling effects and local field enhancement. These results indicate that purposely designed coupled nanostructures could prove advantageous for nonlinear optical imaging and biosensing applications.  相似文献

In this study, we report a simple solution‐phase method to prepare ZnO nanostructures with controllable morphologies. By using oleylamine (OAm) and dodecanol (DDL) as solvents, zinc oxide nanocrystals with tunable sizes and diverse shapes (hexagonal pyramids, bulletlike, and pencil‐like shapes) have been obtained under mild conditions. At the same time, the introduction of presynthesized gold nanocrystals can also lead to the hybrid nanostructures of gold–zinc oxide hexagonal nanopyramids. In addition, the possible formation mechanism of the as‐prepared ZnO nanostructures has been investigated. Notably, the unique optical properties of the ZnO nanostructures with different sizes and shapes have also been discussed. We hope that this strategy will be a general and effective method for fabricating other metal oxide nanocrystals.  相似文献

In this article, studies on noble metal nanostructures using near-field optical microscopic imaging are reviewed. We show that near-field transmission imaging and near-field two-photon excitation imaging provide valuable methods for investigation of plasmon resonances in metal nanostructures. The eigenfunctions of plasmon modes in metal nanoparticles are directly visualized using these methods. For metal nanowire systems, wavevectors of the longitudinal plasmon modes can be estimated directly from the wave-function images, and the dispersion relations are plotted and analyzed. Using ultrafast transient near-field imaging, we show that the deformation of the plasmon wave function takes place after photoexcitation of a gold nanorod. Such methods of plasmon-wave imaging may provide a unique basic tool for designing plasmon-mode-based nano-optical devices. We also demonstrate that the near-field two-photon excitation probability images reflect localized electric-field enhancements in metal nanostructures. We apply this method to gold nanosphere assemblies and clearly visualize the local enhanced optical fields in the interstitial sites between particles (hot spots). We also show the contribution of hot spots to surface enhanced Raman scattering. The methodology described here may provide valuable basic information about the characteristic enhanced optical fields in metal nanostructures as well as on their applications to new innovative research areas beyond the conventional scope of materials.  相似文献
