Most polymeric thermoresponsive hydrogels contract upon heating beyond the lower critical solution temperature (LCST) of the polymers used. Herein, we report a supramolecular hydrogel system that shows the opposite temperature dependence. When the non‐thermosesponsive hydrogel NaphtGel, containing dialkoxynaphthalene guest molecules, becomes complexed with the tetra cationic macrocyclic host CBPQT4+, swelling occurred as a result of host–guest complex formation leading to charge repulsion between the host units, as well as an osmotic contribution of chloride counter‐ions embedded in the network. The immersion of NaphtGel in a solution of poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) with tetrathiafulvalene (TTF) end groups complexed with CBPQT4+ induced positive thermoresponsive behaviour. The LCST‐induced dethreading of the polymer‐based pseudorotaxane upon heating led to transfer of the CBPQT4+ host and a concomitant swelling of NaphtGel. Subsequent cooling led to reformation of the TTF‐based host–guest complexes in solution and contraction of the hydrogel.  相似文献

A fluorescent supramolecular polymer network with an excellent triple-stimuli responsive property based on metal–ligand coordination and host–guest interactions has been constructed from a terpyridine-monofunctionalized leaning tower[6]arene, a tetraphenylethylene AIEgen, and a bridging coordination ion (Zn2+). Addition of competitive binding agents, trifluoroacetic acid, and/or pillar[5]arene can break the metal coordination and/or host-guest inclusion complexation, and thermal heating can weaken the non-covalent interactions in the supramolecular polymer gel, all leading to the gel-to-sol transition.  相似文献

We report a thermoresponsive poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) brush functionalized Janus Au–Pt bimetallic micromotor capable of modulating the direction of motion with the change of the ambient temperature. The PNIPAM@Au–Pt micromotor moved along the Au–Pt direction with a speed of 8.5 μm s?1 in 1.5 % H2O2 at 25 °C (below the lower critical solution temperature (LCST) of PNIPAM), whereas it changed the direction of motion (i.e., along the Pt–Au direction) and the speed decreased to 2.3 μm s?1 at 35 °C (above LCST). Below LCST, PNIPAM brushes grafted on the Au side were hydrophilic and swelled, which permitted the electron transfer and proton diffusion on the Au side, and thus the motion is regarded as a self‐electrophoretic mechanism. However, PNIPAM brushes above LCST became hydrophobic and collapsed, and thus the driving mechanism switched to the self‐diffusiophoresis like that of Pt‐modified Janus silica motors. These motors could reversibly change the direction of motion with the transition of the hydrophobic and hydrophilic states of the grafted PNIPAM brushes. Such a thermoresponsive polymer brush functionalization method provides a new strategy for engineering the kinematic behavior of phoretically driven micro/nanomotors.  相似文献

In this paper, we report the synthesis and characterization of a new stimuli-responsive diblock polymer, i.e., methoxy poly (ethylene glycol)-block-Poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (mPEG-b-PNIPAM), which belongs to the family of supramolecular amphiphiles. For this purpose, β-cyclodextrin (β-CD)-functionalized methoxy poly (ethylene glycol) (mPEG-CD) and adamantine (AD)-modified poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM-AD) were synthesized. The diblock polymer mPEG-b-PNIPAM was then obtained by host–guest inclusion between mPEG-CD and PNIPAM-AD. The structure and molecular weight of the mPEG-b-PNIPAM was confirmed by 1HNMR and GPC, respectively. Above the lower critical solution temperature (LCST), mPEG-b-PNIPAM can self-assemble into nano-structures in aqueous solutions with PNIPAM block as the core and mPEG block as the corona. The aggregation behavior of mPEG-b-PNIPAM were revealed by UV-vis, DLS measurements, and TEM observations. The mPEG-b-PNIPAM was further utilized to construct Dox@mPEG-b-PNIPAM micelles at 37°C in phosphate-buffered saline (PBS). No detectable amount of Dox was released from the micelles at 37°C. When cooling to 27°C or adding a competitive reagent, however, release of Dox from the micelles was observed.  相似文献

Combining the concepts of supramolecular polymers and dendronized polymers provides the opportunity to create bulky polymers with easy structural modification and tunable properties. In the present work, a novel class of side‐chain supramolecular dendronized polymethacrylates is prepared through the host–guest interaction. The host is a linear polymethacrylate (as the backbone) attached in each repeat unit with a β‐cyclodextrin (β‐CD) moiety, and the guest is constituted with three‐fold branched oligoethylene glycol (OEG)‐based first‐ (G1) and second‐generation (G2) dendrons with an adamantyl group core. The host and guest interaction in aqueous solution leads to the formation of the supramolecular polymers, which is supported with 1H NMR spectroscopy and dynamic light scattering measurements. The supramolecular formation was also examined at different host/guest ratios. The water solubility of hosts and guests increases upon supramolecular formation. The supramolecular polymers show good solubility in water at room temperature, but exhibit thermoresponsive behavior at elevated temperatures. Their thermoresponsiveness is thus investigated with UV/Vis and 1H NMR spectroscopy, and compared with their counterparts formed from individual β‐CD and the OEG dendritic guest. The effect of polymer concentration and molar ratio of host/guest was examined. It is found that the polar interior of the supramolecules contribute significantly to the thermally‐induced phase transitions for the G1 polymer, but this effect is negligible for the G2 polymer. Based on the temperature‐varied proton NMR spectra, it is found that the host–guest complex starts to decompose during the aggregation process upon heating to its dehydration temperature, and this decomposition is enhanced with an increase of solution temperature.  相似文献

A methodology for preparing supramolecular hydrogels from guest‐modified cyclodextrins (CDs) based on the host–guest and hydrogen‐bonding interactions of CDs is presented. Four types of modified CDs were synthesized to understand better the gelation mechanism. The 2D ROESY NMR spectrum of β‐CD‐AmTNB (Am=amino, TNB=trinitrobenzene) reveals that the TNB group was included in the β‐CD cavity. Pulsed field gradient NMR (PFG NMR) spectroscopy and AFM show that β‐CD‐AmTNB formed a supramolecular polymer in aqueous solution through head‐to‐tail stacking. Although β‐CD‐AmTNB did not produce a hydrogel due to insufficient growth of supramolecular polymers, β‐CD‐CiAmTNB (Ci=cinnamoyl) formed supramolecular fibrils through host–guest interactions. Hydrogen bonds between the cross‐linked fibrils resulted in the hydrogel, which displayed excellent chemical‐responsive properties. Gel‐to‐sol transitions occurred by adding 1‐adamantane carboxylic acid (AdCA) or urea. 1H NMR and induced circular dichroism (ICD) spectra reveal that AdCA released the guest parts from the CD cavity and that urea acts as a denaturing agent to break the hydrogen bonds between CDs. The hydrogel was also destroyed by adding β‐CD, which acts as the competitive host to reduce the fibrils. Furthermore, the gel changed to a sol by adding methyl orange (MO) as a guest compound, but the gel reappeared upon addition of α‐CD, which is a stronger host for MO.  相似文献

We report the synthesis and investigation of a new type of photoresponsive block copolymers (BCPs). They were designed to comprise two water‐soluble polymers containing two different photoisomerizable moieties (either azobenzene and spiropyran or two different azobenzenes), with the two constituting blocks that, when separated, exhibit a lower critical solution temperature (LCST) in water and can shift their LCST in opposite directions upon photoisomerization (decrease of LCST for one polymer and increase for the other). A variety of such doubly photoresponsive BCPs were synthesized using either azobenzene‐ or spiropyran‐containing poly(N,N‐dimethylacrylamide) (PDMA), poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) and poly[methoxydi(ethylene glycol) methacrylate] (PDEGMMA). Their thermal phase transition behaviors in aqueous solution before and after simultaneous photoreactions on the two blocks were investigated in comparison with their constituting blocks, by means of solution transmittance (turbidity) and variable‐temperature 1H NMR measurements. The results show that BCPs displayed a single LCST whose shift upon two photoisomerizations appeared to be determined by the competing and opposing photoinduced effects on the two blocks. Moreover, optically controlling the relative photoisomerization degrees of trans azobenzene‐to‐cis azobenzene and spiropyran‐to‐merocyanine could be used to tune the LCST of BCP solution. This study demonstrates the potential of exploring a more complex photoreaction scheme to optically control the solution properties of water‐soluble thermosensitive BCPs. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A water‐soluble supramolecular polymer with a high degree of polymerization and viscosity has been constructed based on the strong host–guest interaction between p‐sulfonatocalix[4]arenes (SC4As) and viologen. A homoditopic doubly ethyl‐bridged bis(p‐sulfonatocalix[4]arene) (d‐SC4A) was prepared and its binding behavior towards methyl viologen compared with the singly ethyl‐bridged bis(p‐sulfonatocalix[4]arene) (s‐SC4A) by NMR spectroscopy and isothermal titration calorimetry. By employing a viologen dimer (bisMV4+) as the homoditopic guest, two linear AA/BB‐type supramolecular polymers, d‐SC4A?bisMV4+ and s‐SC4A?bisMV4+, were successfully constructed. Compared with s‐SC4A?bisMV4+, d‐SC4A?bisMV4+ shows much higher solubility and viscosity, and has also been characterized by viscosity, diffusion‐ordered NMR spectroscopy, dynamic light scattering, and atomic force microscopy measurements. Furthermore, the polymer is responsive to electrostimulus as viologen is electroactive, which was studied by cyclic voltammetry. This study represents a proof‐of‐principle as the polymer can potentially be applied as a self‐healing and degradable polymeric material.  相似文献

Bisporphyrin cleft molecule 1 Zn possessing a guest moiety assembled to form supramolecular polymers through host–guest interactions. Bispyridine cross‐linkers created interchain connections among the supramolecular polymers to form networked polymers in solution. Solution viscometry confirmed that the cross‐linked supramolecular polymers were highly entangled. Frequency‐dependent linear viscoelastic spectroscopy revealed that the supramolecular polymers generated well‐entangled solutions with associating and networking polymers, whereas the solid‐like aggregates moved individually without breaking and reforming structures below the transition temperature of 9.6 °C. Morphological transition of the supramolecular polymers was evidenced by AFM images; the non‐cross‐linked polymer resulted in wide‐spread thin networks, while the cross‐linked networks produced thicker worm‐like nanostructures. The supramolecular networks gelled in 1,1,2,2‐tetrachloroethane, and an elastic free‐standing film was fabricated with a Young’s modulus of 1 GPa.  相似文献

Classical molecular dynamics simulations were carried out to investigate the hydrophilic to hydrophobic transition of PNIPAM‐co‐PEGMA close to its lower critical solution temperature (LCST) in 1 M NaCl solution. PNIPAM‐co‐PEGMA is a copolymer of poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) and poly(ethylene glycol) methacrylate (PEGMA). The copolymer consists of 38 monomer units of NIPAM with two PEGMA chains attached to the PNIAPM backbone. The PNIPAM‐co‐PEGMA was observed to go through the hydrophilic?hydrophobic conformational change for simulations at temperature slightly above its LCST. Na+ ions were found to bind strongly and directly with amide O, even more strongly with the O atoms on PEGAMS chains, whereas Cl? ions only exhibit weak interaction with the polymer. Significantly a novel caged stable metal‐organic complex involving a Na+ ion coordinated by six O atoms from the copolymer was observed after the PNIPAM‐co‐PEGMA copolymer went through conformational transition to form a hydrophobic folded structure. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A novel water soluble ditopic guest, the quaternary ammonium salt of N,N'-bis(ferrocenylmethylene)-diaminobutane (1), and a known water soluble ditopic host, benzenetetracarboxylic dianhydride bridged bis(β-cyclodextrin)s (2), have been synthesized and characterized. ^1H NMR spectra and cyclic voltammogram (CV) studies revealed the host-guest interactions between them in aqueous solution. The supramolecular interaction also exists in solid state as confirmed by the studies of the solid samples, which were obtained by frozen-drying the solution sampies, using FTIR spectroscopy and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) techniques. TEM measurement demonstrated that wire-shaped supramolecular aggregates exist in the aqueous solution of the two compounds. The lengths of the aggregates could reach micrometers.  相似文献

Thermoresponsive water‐soluble polymers are of great importance since they typically show a lower critical solution temperature (LCST) in aqueous media. In this research, the LCST change in broad temperature ranges of copolymers composed of natural glycyrrhetinic acid (GA)‐based methacrylate and N ,N′ ‐dimethylacrylamides (DMAs) was investigated as a function of the concentration and the content of GA pendants. By complexation of GA pendants with β‐cyclodextrin (β‐CD), a side‐chain polypseudorotaxane was obtained, which exhibited a significant increase in the LCST of copolymers. Moreover, the precisely reversible control of the LCST behavior was realized through adding a competing guest molecule, sodium 1‐admantylcarboxylate. This work illustrates a simple and effective approach to endow water‐soluble polymers with broad temperature tunability and helps us further understand the effect of a biocompatible host–guest complementary β‐CD/GA pair on the thermoresponsive process.  相似文献

A polypseudorotaxane (PPR) comprising γ‐cyclodextrin (γ‐CD) as host molecules and poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) as a guest polymer is prepared via self‐assembly in aqueous solution. Due to the bulky pendant isopropylamide group, PNIPAM exhibits size‐selectivity toward self‐assembly with α‐, β‐, and γ‐CDs. It can fit into the cavity of γ‐CD to give rise to a PPR, but cannot pass through α‐CD and β‐CD under the same conditions. The ratio of the number of γ‐CD molecules to entrapped NIPAM repeat units is kept at 1:2.2 or 1:2.4, determined by 1H NMR spectroscopy and TGA analysis, respectively, indicating that there are more than 2 but less than 3 NIPAM repeat units included by one γ‐CD molecule. This finding opens new avenues to PPR‐based supramolecular polymers to be used as solid, stimuli‐responsive materials.  相似文献

Employing bis(p‐sulfonatocalix[4]arenes) (bisSC4A) and N′,N′′hexamethylenebis(1‐methyl‐4,4′‐bipyridinium) (HBV4+) as monomer building blocks, the assembly morphologies can be modulated by cucurbit[n]uril (CB[n]) (n=7, 8), achieving the interesting topological conversion from cyclic oligomers to linear polymers. The binary supramolecular assembly fabricated by HBV4+ and bisSC4A units, forms an oligomeric structure, which was characterized by NMR spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy (AFM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), dynamic light scattering (DLS), isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC), and gel permeation chromatography (GPC) experiments. The ternary supramolecular polymer participated by CB[8] is constructed on the basis of host–guest interactions by bisSC4A and the [2]pseudorotaxane HBV4+@CB[8], which is characterized by means of AFM, DLS, NMR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), UV/Vis spectroscopy, and elemental analysis. CB[n] plays vital roles in rigidifying the conformation of HBV4+, and reinforcing the host–guest inclusion of bisSC4A with HBV4+, which prompts the formation of a linear polymer. Moreover, the CB[8]‐participated ternary assembly could disassemble into the molecular loop HBV2+@CB[8] and free bisSC4A after reduction of HBV4+ to HBV2+, whereas the CB[7]‐based assembly remained unchanged after the reduction. CB[8] not only controlled the topological conversion of the supramolecular assemblies, but also improved the redox‐responsive assembly/disassembly property practically.  相似文献

Crown ether‐functionalized dendronized copolymers with an alternating structure were synthesized by free radical copolymerization of styrene derivatives pendent with Percec‐type polyether dendron of two generations and maleimide pendent with dibenzo[24]crown‐8 (24C8). Novel dendronized copolymers bearing tremendous host molecular cavities have been characterized by 1H NMR, 13C NMR spectroscopy, static light scattering (SLS), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) analysis as well as atomic force microscopy (AFM) techniques. Host–guest interactions between 24C8 units dispersed along the dendronized copolymers and organic ammonium salts of pyrene, anthracene, and phenol have been explored. These molecular recognition processes can be monitored by 1H NMR spectroscopy and fluorescence excitation spectroscopy. These results showed that the supramolecular polymer systems are acid–base controllable, demonstrating that dendronized copolymers may be modified reversibly via host–guest interaction. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Supramolecular polymer networks have attracted considerable attention not only due to their topological importance but also because they can show some fantastic properties such as stimuli‐responsiveness and self‐healing. Although various supramolecular networks are constructed by supramolecular chemists based on different non‐covalent interactions, supramolecular polymer networks based on multiple orthogonal interactions are still rare. Here, a supramolecular polymer network is presented on the basis of the host–guest interactions between dibenzo‐24‐crown‐8 (DB24C8) and dibenzylammonium salts (DBAS), the metal–ligand coordination interactions between terpyridine and Zn(OTf)2, and between 1,2,3‐triazole and PdCl2(PhCN)2. The topology of the networks can be easily tuned from monomer to main‐chain supramolecular polymer and then to the supramolecular networks. This process is well studied by various characterization methods such as 1H NMR, UV–vis, DOSY, viscosity, and rheological measurements. More importantly, a supramolecular gel is obtained at high concentrations of the supramolecular networks, which demonstrates both stimuli‐responsiveness and self‐healing properties.

We report on the synthesis of an H‐shaped polymer bonding β‐cyclodextrin (β‐CD) at branch points and influences of attached β‐CD on physical properties. First, a poly(ethylene glycol)(PEG)‐based functional macroinitiator bearing two azidos and four chlorines at chain‐ends (PEG‐2N3(‐4Cl)) was prepared via terminal modification reactions. Then, PEG‐2N3(‐4Cl) was applied to initiate the atom transfer radical polymerization of N‐isopropylacrylamide, leading to the synthesis of an H‐shaped block polymer with PEG as the central chain and poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) as side‐arms (PEG‐2N3(‐4PNIPAM)). Azido groups were at the branch points of the polymer. Finally, the click reaction between PEG‐2N3(‐4PNIPAM) and alkynyl monosubstituted β‐cyclodextrin (β‐CD) afforded another H‐shaped polymer with two β‐CDs bonding at the polymer branch points (PEG‐2CD(‐4PNIPAM)). The glass transition temperature (Tg) and lower critical solution temperature (LCST) of the H‐shaped polymer increased after the attachment of β‐CD. The self‐assembly and thermal responsive behaviors, as well as the encapsulation behaviors of PEG‐2CD(‐4PNIPAM) were also altered. When temperature was below the LCSTs, PEG‐2N3(‐2PNIPAM) dissolved in water molecularly, whereas PEG‐2CD(‐4PNIPAM) could self‐assemble into nano‐sized micelles. After the LCST transitions, PEG‐2N3(‐4PNIPAM) aggregated into micron‐sized unstable particles, whereas PEG‐2CD(‐4PNIPAM) transformed into PNIPAM‐cored nanomicelles. Besides, PEG‐2CD(‐4PNIPAM) can encapsulate doxorubicin below its LCST due to the formation of micelles. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2013  相似文献

The repeating guest units of poly‐(R)‐ 2 were selectively encapsulated by the self‐assembled capsule poly‐ 1 possessing eight polymer side chains to form the supramolecular graft polymer (poly‐ 1 )n?poly‐(R)‐ 2 . The encapsulation of the guest units was confirmed by 1H NMR spectroscopy and the DOSY technique. The hydrodynamic radius of the graft polymer structure was greatly increased upon the complexation of poly‐ 1 . The supramolecular graft polymer (poly‐ 1 )n?poly‐(R)‐ 2 was stably formed in the 1:1 host–guest ratio, which increased the glass transition temperature by more than 10 °C compared to that of poly‐ 1 . AFM visualized that (poly‐ 1 )n?poly‐(R)‐ 2 formed the networked structure on mica. The (poly‐ 1 )n?poly‐(R)‐ 2 gelled in 1,1,2,2‐tetrachloroethane, which led to fabrication of distinct viscoelastic materials that demonstrated self‐healing behavior in a tensile test.  相似文献

The promiscuous encapsulation of π‐electron‐rich guests by the π‐electron‐deficient host, cyclobis(paraquat‐p‐phenylene) (CBPQT4+), involves the formation of 1:1 inclusion complexes. One of the most intensely investigated charge‐transfer (CT) bands, assumed to result from inclusion of a guest molecule inside the cavity of CBPQT4+, is an emerald‐green band associated with the complexation of tetrathiafulvalene (TTF) and its derivatives. This interpretation was called into question recently in this journal based on theoretical gas‐phase calculations that reinterpreted this CT band in terms of an intermolecular side‐on interaction of TTF with one of the bipyridinium (BIPY2+) units of CBPQT4+, rather than the encapsulation of TTF inside the cavity of CBPQT4+. We carried out DFT calculations, including solvation, that reveal conclusively that the CT band emerging upon mixing TTF with CBPQT4+ arises from the formation of a 1:1 inclusion complex. In support of this conclusion, we have performed additional experiments on a [2]rotaxane in which a TTF unit, located in the middle of its short dumbbell, is prevented sterically from interacting with either one of the two BIPY2+ units of a CBPQT4+ ring residing on a separate [2]rotaxane in a side‐on fashion. This [2]rotaxane has similar UV/Vis and 1H NMR spectroscopic properties with those of 1:1 inclusion complexes of TTF and its derivatives with CBPQT4+. The [2]rotaxane exists as an equimolar mixture of cis‐ and trans‐isomers associated with the disubstituted TTF unit in its dumbbell component. Solid‐state structures were obtained for both isomers, validating the conclusion that the TTF unit, which gives rise to the CT band, resides inside CBPQT4+.  相似文献

We prepared an iridium polymer complex having 2‐phenylpyridine as a η2‐cyclometallated ligand, a new OLED containing a solution‐processible iridium polymer as a host, and a phosphorescent iridium complex, [Ir(piq‐tBu)3] as a guest. This is the first example to apply a phosphorescent iridium complex polymer to a host material in a phosphorescent OLED. A phosphine copolymer ligand made from methyl methacrylate (MMA) and 4‐styryldiphenylphosphine can be used as an anchor polymer, which coordinates to luminescent iridium units to form a host metallopolymer easily. The OLED containing the host iridium‐complex polymer film, in which the guest, 2 wt % Ir(piq‐tBu)3, was doped, showed red electroluminescence as a result of efficient energy transfer from the iridium polymer host to the iridium guest. The maximum current efficiency of the device was 1.00, suggesting that a soluble iridium complex polymer can be used as a solution‐processible polymer host in EL devices. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
