A general law of precise asymptotics for the counting process of record times

This paper achieves a general law of precise asymptotics for the counting process of record times of i.i.d. absolutely continuous random variables. It can describe the relations among the boundary function, weighted function, convergence rate and limit value in studies of complete convergence. This extends and generalizes the corresponding results in Stochastic Process. Appl. 101 (2002) 233-239.     

On the Haar and Walsh Systems on a Triangle

In this paper we establish the Haar and Walsh systems on a triangle. These systems are complete in $L_2(\Delta)$. The uniform convergence of the Haar-Fourier series and the uniform convergence by group of the Walsh-Fourier series for any continuous function are proved.     

Upper integral and its geometric meaning

The Hahn definition of the integral is recalled, the requirement of measurability of the integrand omitted. Both the upper and lower integrals comply with this definition and so does any measurable function between them. The outer product measure of the hypograph of a nonnegative bounded nonmeasurable function is equal to the upper integral which is equal to one of the Fan integrals. The outer measure of the graph of a bounded nonmeasurable function is equal to the difference between the upper and lower integrals. A norm for not necessarily measurable functions is defined with the upper integral. The linear space with this norm is complete. The convergence in this space implies the convergence in outer measure. The distance as an outer measure of the symmetric difference of two sets gives us a complete metric space of classes of subsets.

在删失数据的模型下，对于光滑未知的分布函数Ｆ０，文中提出了光滑化的方法去估计Ｆ０，得到了光滑ＰＬ估计Ｆｎ，并建立了Ｆｎ在Ｄ（－∞，Ｔ），Ｔ＜ＴＦ上的弱收敛和强相合的结果．同时也获得了光滑ＰＬ过程的强逼近和重对数律．

开平面C上的亚纯函数与完备极小曲面的Gauss映射

A variable metric algorithm for unconstrained minimization without evaluation of derivatives

Summary This paper presents a modification of the BFGS-method for unconstrained minimization that avoids computation of derivatives. The gradients are approximated by the aid of differences of function values. These approximations are calculated in such a way that a complete convergence proof can be given. The presented algorithm is implementable, no exact line search is required. It is shown that, if the objective function is convex and some usually required conditions hold, the algorithm converges to a solution. If the Hessian matrix of the objective function is positive definite and satisfies a Lipschitz-condition in a neighbourhood of the solution, then the rate of convergence is superlinear.     

Complete minimal surfaces in R3 with a prescribed coordinate function

In this paper we construct complete simply connected minimal surfaces with a prescribed coordinate function. Moreover, we prove that these surfaces are dense in the space of all minimal surfaces with this coordinate function (with the topology of the smooth convergence on compact sets).

Convergence analysis of an interpolation process for the derivatives of a complete spline

The question about the convergence of interpolation processes for the complete splines of odd degree and their derivatives is studied. The study is based on the representation of the spline derivatives in the bases of normalized and non-normalized B-splines. The systems of equations for the coefficients of such representations are obtained. The estimations of derivatives of the error function for the approximation of an interpolated function by the complete spline are established in terms of the norms of inverse matrices of the systems of equations. In particular, the C. de Boor??s hypothesis (1975) on the unconditional convergence of the (n ? 1)-th derivative of a complete (2n ? 1)-degree spline is proved.     

Strong convergence in nonparametric regression with truncated dependent data

In this paper we derive rates of uniform strong convergence for the kernel estimator of the regression function in a left-truncation model. It is assumed that the lifetime observations with multivariate covariates form a stationary α-mixing sequence. The estimation of the covariate’s density is considered as well. Under the assumption that the lifetime observations are bounded, we show that, by an appropriate choice of the bandwidth, both estimators of the covariate’s density and regression function attain the optimal strong convergence rate known from independent complete samples.     

On the uniform convergence of spectral expansions for a spectral problem with boundary conditions of the third kind one of which contains the spectral parameter

We study the uniform convergence, on a closed interval, of spectral expansions of Hölder functions in a given complete and minimal system of eigenfunctions corresponding to a spectral problem with spectral parameter in a boundary condition. We consider boundary conditions of the third kind and subject the function to be expanded to a condition of nonlocal type ensuring the uniform convergence. We prove a theorem stating that expansions in the entire system of eigenfunctions of the problem are possible without any additional conditions.     

Steepest descent method with a generalized Armijo search for quasiconvex functions on Riemannian manifolds

This paper extends the full convergence of the steepest descent method with a generalized Armijo search and a proximal regularization to solve minimization problems with quasiconvex objective functions on complete Riemannian manifolds. Previous convergence results are obtained as particular cases and some examples in non-Euclidian spaces are given. In particular, our approach can be used to solve constrained minimization problems with nonconvex objective functions in Euclidian spaces if the set of constraints is a Riemannian manifold and the objective function is quasiconvex in this manifold.     

Homogenization of nonstationary Navier-Stokes equations in a domain with a grained boundary

Summary We prove the convergence of the homogenization process for a nonstationary Navier-Stokes system in a porous medium. The result of homogenization is Darcy's law, as in the case of the Stokes equation, but the convergence of pressures is in a different function space.This work was supported in part by INA-NAFTAPLIN, Geological Exploration and Development Division, Zagreb, Yugoslavia, and by SIZ I, Zagreb, Yugoslavia.     

Complete Moment Convergence for Arrays of Rowwise Widely Orthant Dependent Random Variables

In this paper, complete moment convergence for widely orthant dependent random variables is investigated under some mild conditions. For arrays of rowwise widely orthant dependent random variables, the main results extend recent results on complete convergence to complete moment convergence. These results on complete moment convergence are shown to yield new results on complete integral convergence.

Complete moment convergence for arrays of rowwise NSD random variables

In this paper, the complete convergence and complete moment convergence for arrays of rowwise negatively superadditive dependent (NSD, in short) random variables are investigated. Some sufficient conditions to prove the complete convergence and the complete moment convergence are presented. The results obtained in the paper generalize and improve some corresponding ones for independent random variables and negatively associated random variables.
