We have observed 1085 events of the type e+e? → hadrons, in the total centre-of-mass energy range √s = 1.2 to 3.0 GeV. The energy dependence of the total annihilation cross-section, parametrized in the form σ(e+e?hadrons) = A·sn, is measured to be n = -(1.54?0.29+0.17) in the above energy range.  相似文献

This paper reports on measurements of the total cross section for the inclusive reaction vμ+N , as a function of incident energy. Neutrinos and antineutrinos with energy in the range 30–300 GeV were produced in the 1982 Fermilab narrow-band neutrino beamline. A total of 35 000 neutrino and 7000 antineutrino interactions were recorded in the CCFR detector located in LabE. The incident neutrino flux was determined by methods similar to those used in previous experiments. The rate of increase with energy of the total cross section (σ/E v) in the range 30 to 75 GeV was determined to be 0.659±0.005(stat)±0.039(syst)×10?38 cm2/GeV and 0.307±0.008(stat)±0.020(syst)×10?38 cm2/GeV for incident neutrinos and antineutrinos, respectively. The 5.9% systematic errors are due primarily to uncertainties in the flux intensity measurement. The energy dependence of the cross section in the regionE ν=100–300 GeV was found to be linear, as determined by relative normalization techniques. The NOMAD experiment has sought νμ ? ντ oscillations by looking for the emergence of τ? in events from the CERN SPS neutrino beam. With some improvements in the techniques of analysis in relation to the results published previously and with the inclusion of data from the 1998 run, no evidence for the oscillations has been found, which results in an updated limit on the oscillation probability [Pμ → ντ) < 0.5 × 10?3 at a 90% C.L.]. The corresponding limit on the oscillation mixing angle is given by sin2μτ < 1.0 × 10?3 for large Δm 2. By using a 1% contamination of νe in the neutrino beam, we can also rule out ν e ? ντ oscillations and constrain the probability of the relevant transition as P e → ντ) < 3 × 10?2 at a 90% C.L. We have used our measurements of final states from e+e? containing an isolated muon and a hadronic or electron shower to search for new spin 0 charged particles. We exclude (95% CL) a supersymmetric partner of the τ with a mass less than 14 GeV/c2. We obtain upper limits on the branching ratio to τvτ for charged Higgs particles or technipions with masses up to 14 GeV/c2. This disagrees with some technicolor model predictions.  相似文献

The cross sections for e+e? → e+(μ+ + non showering track + any photons have been measured for cm energies between 3.1 GeV and 5.2 GeV. We observe τ-pair production below the thresholdfor charm production and determine the τ mass to be 1.807 ± 0.020 GeV from a fit to the energy dependence of the cross section. The ration of the leptonic branching ratios Bμ/Be = 0.92 ± 0.32 is consistent with eμ-universality. The following branching ratios are determined for a V-A coupling: B(τ → ντeν) = B(τ → ντμν) = 0.182 + 0.028. B(τντ + charged hadron + any photons) = 0.29 ± 0.11, B(τντ + three or more charged hadrons + any photons) = 0.35 ± 0.11.  相似文献

Formulae for the radiative corrections toe + e ?f \(\bar f\) andepeX,v e X′ are given for two Higgs doublets inSU(2)×U(1). The magnitude of deviations from the minimal model is discussed for theM W ?M Z mass correlation, thee + e ? forward-backward and polarization asymmetries and σ(e + e ? → hadrons) at LEP/SLC, and for σ(NC)/σ(CC), charge and polarization asymmetries in deep inelasticep scattering at HERA. Precision experiments can restrict the mass splitting between neutral and charged Higgs bosons to ?100 GeV. In the supersymmetric Higgs model the additional corrections remain unobservably small.  相似文献

The energy dependence of the cross sections for e+e? → e±(μ±) + 1 charged track has been measured for centre of mass energies between 3.60 and 4.40 GeV. The pair production of the τ-lepton is observed at all energies and the τ-mass is determined to be 1.787?0.018+0.010 GeV from a fit to the energy dependence of the cross section.  相似文献

A search for dimuons produced in a spark chamber experiment in neutrino and antineutrino beams of the Serpukhov accelerator is reported. The clear dimuon signal has been observed in vN interactions. Rv = N(2ω)/N(1ω)? (6.2 ± 1.7) × 10?3 in the energy interval 7.5 ÷ 30 GeV. From antineutrino data we conclude that in the same energy range Rv? 1.1. × 10?2 (90% C.L.).  相似文献

Single and multi-photon events with missing energy are analysed using data collected with the L3 detector at LEP at a centre-of-mass energy of 189 GeV, for a total of 176 pb of integrated luminosity. The cross section of the process e+e → γ(γ) is measured and the number of light neutrino flavours is determined to be Nν=3.011±0.077 including lower energy data. Upper limits on cross sections of supersymmetric processes are set and interpretations in supersymmetric models provide improved limits on the masses of the lightest neutralino and the gravitino. Graviton-photon production in low scale gravity models with extra dimensions is searched for and limits on the energy scale of the model are set exceeding 1 TeV for two extra dimensions.  相似文献

We report on results of η-electroproduction in the resonance region at momentum transfers ofQ 2=2 GeV2 and 3 GeV2. The differential cross sections obtained in the region of the second nucleon resonance strongly support the dominance of theS 11(1535) in this channel. The total transverse virtual photoproduction cross section of theS 11(1535) shows a flatQ 2-dependence ~e ?0.39· Q 2. Comparison with the total resonant γ v p cross section in the second resonance region aroundW=1.5 GeV shows that theD 13(1520) production decreases much faster (~e ?1.6· Q 2). The data are not compatible with the simple harmonic oscillator quark model with spin and orbit excitation of a quark only.  相似文献

For e+ energy > 0.3 GeV and 10 GeV < visible energy < 100 GeV we find that: (i) ? = (vμ + Ne → μ?e+)/(vμ + Ne → μ?) = (0.41 ± 0.15)%; (ii) 1.2 ± 0.5 neutral strange particles are produced per μ?e+ event; (iii) the lifetime of possible positron-parent particles is < 3 × 10?10 s (90% C.L.); (iv) the cross section for direct e+ production via the neutral current is < 0.2 times that via the charged current (90% C.L.); (v) the cross section for producing heavy leptons, L+, decaying into e+ … is < 0.7 × 10?3 times that for μ?production, implying M(L+) > 10 GeV.  相似文献

The inclusive cross-section for the production of a single hadron in deep inelastic electroproduction is studied in a dual resonance model. The Bjorken scaling behaviour in the virtual photon fragmentation region for finite x (≡ 2pLc.m./√s) is (1/σT,L))d3σT,L/E?d3p ~ (1/q2) F(x,p2/q2) and thus the transverse momentum grows like q2, whereas in the parton model (1/σT,L)d3σT,L/E?1d3pF(x,p2). A related effect is the absence of two-jet structure in e+e? annihilation. We believe that dual model results may give a more reliable indication of the deep inelastic behaviour for composite hadrons than the parton model.  相似文献

Starting from the additive quarkSU(6) model and taking into account the pion and kaon (η) emission during the initial stage of evolution (fromq 2m quark 2 toq 2~1 GeV2) we convert the main fraction of the proton spin into the orbital momentum of the pseudoscalar mesons. The results are in a good agreement with the experimental data. We get ∫g 1(x)dx=0.152 for proton and +0.007 for the Λ hyperon (i.e. the quarks carry out only about 39% of the Λ spin). In the same model we explain the violation of the Gottfried sum rule ?∫(F 2 p(x)?F 2 n(x))dx=0.23 due to the charged meson exchanges at the beginning of the evolution. The Gribov-Lipatov relation between the polarized structure functions in DIS ande + e ?-annihilation is discussed. It gives the possibility to study the spin structure of Λ hyperon produced through the decay of the jet originated by a polarized quark ine + e ?-annihilation or in DIS.  相似文献

The energy dependence of the x = q2/2Mv distribution in vp and vN inelastic scattering ~2 GeV to ~60 GeV is found to be consistent with the deviations from Bjorken scaling observed in inelastic μN/eN scattering. A simple parametrization of the deviations is given.  相似文献

Currently popular search strategies for supersymmetric particles may be significantly affected due to relatively light sneutrinos which decay dominantly into invisible channels. In certain cases the second lightest neutralino may also decay invisibly leading to two extra carriers of missing energy (in addition to the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP) ) — the virtual LSPs (VLSPs). A tree lavel calculation shows that if the sneutrino mass happens to be in the small but experimentally allowed range (m ≈ν ≈ 45–55 GeV), these particles together with neutralino pairs may contribute significantly to the missing energy in the process e+e? → γ+ E at LEP-2 energies as an enhancement over the Standard Model or the conventional MSSM predictions. It is further shown that a much larger region of the parameter space can be scanned at a high luminosity e+e? collider at 500 GeV like the proposed NLC machine. Moreover, at both LEP-2 and NLC this process may play a complementary role to direct chargino searches, which may fail due to a near mass degeneracy of the chargino and the sneutrino. Formulae for the cross sections taking into account full mixings of the charginos and the neutralinos are derived. The signal remains observable even in the context of more restricted models based onN=1 SUGRA with common scalar and gaugino masses. A preliminary study of the QED radiative corrections due to soft multiple photon emission as well as hard collinear bremsstrahlung indicates that these corrections play a crucial role in estimating the background.  相似文献

The Raman spectrum of cyanogen12C214N2has been investigated at nearly Doppler resolution by means of the Stimulated Raman technique. The regions around theQbranches of the ν1(2330 cm−1) and ν2(845 cm−1) vibrations have been recorded. Besides the fundamentals, hot bands arising fromv5= 1,v5= 2, andv4= 1 have been observed. The spectra have been analyzed, and rotational constants for the excited states have been obtained. The reaction γ + Be → e+e? + X was studied with a bremsstrahlung beam of 7.2 GeV maximum energy. For invariant pair masses 1.8 ? Me+e? 2.6 GeV, no evidence for narrow resonance of width smaller than 40 MeV was found. For the mass interval 2.1 ? Me+e? ? 2.6 GeV, we obtained an upper limit of σ · Be+e? < 2 × 10?35 cm2/nucleon (90% confidence level), assuming a production mechanism similar to the θ (1019) meson.  相似文献

From the observation of double resonance effects on the microwave spectrum two coincidences between 9.4 μm CO2 laser lines and infrared transitions of the ν6 → (ν6 + ν1) band of CF379Br have been determined: R(30) laser line coincident with qR2(7), F = 17/2→17/2 transition, R(28) laser line coincident with all four ΔF = 0 hyperfine components of the qQ8(13) transition. In both cases other infrared transitions lay within the tuning range of the laser. The frequencies of these two laser lines allowed calculations of the band center frequency ν0 = 1083.530 ± 0.001cm?1 and αA = 11.93 ± 0.3MHz, for the ν6 → (ν6 + ν1) band.αB constants were determined for the vibrational states v6, (v6 + v1), v1, and v3.  相似文献

A theoretical model is proposed on how a Si dangling bond associated with an oxygen vacancy on a SiO2 surface (Es′ center) should be observed by Auger electron spectroscopy (AES). The Auger electron distribution NA(E) for the L23VV transition band is calculated for a stoichiometric SiO2 surface, and for a SiOx surface containing Si-(e?O3) coordinations. The latter is characterized by an additional L23VD transition band, where D is the energy level of the unpaired electron e?. The theoretical NA(E) spectra are compared with experimental N(E) spectra for a pristine, and for an electron radiation damaged quartz surface. Agreement with the theoretical model is obtained if D is assumed to lie ≈2 eV below the conduction band edge. This result shows that AES is uniquely useful in revealing the absolute energy level of localized, occupied surface defect states. As the L23VD transition band (main peak at 86 eV) cannot unambiguously be distinguished from a SiSi4 coordination L23VV spectrum (main peak at 88 eV), supporting evidence is presented as to why we exclude a SiSi4 coordination for our particular experimental example. Application of the Si-(e?O3) model to the interpretation of SiO2Si interface Auger spectra is also discussed.  相似文献

We report on a study of the charge-exchange reaction pp++(1232) at the CERN intersecting storage rings (ISR) in the energy range √s = 23 to 53 GeV. From our analysis of the energy dependence of the total cross-section, of the differential cross-section dσ/dt and of the decay angular distributions we find evidence that pion exchange is dominant up to √s = 23 GeV and that (?+A2) exchange dominates the reaction for √s ? 30 GeV, as described by simple Regge-pole models.  相似文献
