We construct a “pseudo-supersymmetric” fermionic extension of the effective action of the bosonic string in arbitrary spacetime dimension D. The theory is invariant under pseudo-supersymmetry transformations up to the quadratic fermion order, which is sufficient in order to be able to derive Killing spinor equations in bosonic backgrounds, and hence to define BPS type solutions determined by a system of first-order equations. The pseudo-supersymmetric theory can be extended by coupling it to a Yang-Mills pseudo-supermultiplet. This also allows us to construct “α corrections” involving quadratic curvature terms. An exponential dilaton potential term, associated with the conformal anomaly for a bosonic string outside its critical dimension, can also be pseudo-supersymmetrised.  相似文献

We discuss construction of the BRST operator for the bosonic closed string theory on an arbitrary Riemann surface of genus g>1. Using the BRST operator we prove the decoupling of the bosonic spurious physical states in general.  相似文献

We have studied the explicit relation between the gauge-invariant path-ordered operator (POO) and a string field in two dimensions. For this purpose, we use the hamiltonian of two-dimensional quantum chromodynamics reformulated in terms of POO. POO is expanded in a power series of a non-local bosonic operator. We show that such a bosonic operator describes Bars and Hanson's free string field in the second quantization. Interactions among bosonic operators are treated in perturbation theory. The coupling constant is proportional to 1/√Nc.  相似文献

We show that the Callan et al. effective equations of motion for the bosonic closed string in a non-trivial background may not be derived only from the bosonic part of theN=1 supergravity action of Manton and Chapline, but also from just a general conformally invariant theory of gravity. In our scheme the invariance under gauge transformations of the antisymmetric tensor field turns out to be a consequence of the metricity condition.  相似文献

From a formal generalization to N copies of the free open string field theory BRST-quantized in the Siegel gauge we reproduce the BRST quantization of the free closed bosonic string field theory and obtain the one of massless higher spin field theories.  相似文献

We present a supersymmetric field theory of electric and magnetic charges with a genuine string. As a consequence of the conventional and representation preserving constraints, the superstring variable has only a bosonic (space-time) part ξμ. We discuss the string-independence of the theory.  相似文献

We consider the bosonic membrane compactified on a torus. The membrane motion is stabilized by a topologically non-trivial background. We find that, in the narrow membrane limit, the mass formula to O(ħ;) reduces to exactly the same form as that of the compactified closed bosonic string theory, and we obtain (almost) massless vector bosons in the adjoint representation of a simply laced Lie group in D = 27. This is only dimension at which the gravitation and gauge bosons may coexist in that background.  相似文献

For the simplest N = 1 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory, we construct a bosonic field transformation which linearizes the Yang-Mills action in each topological sector and whose jacobian equals the product of Fadeev-Popov and Matthews-Salam determinants up to cubic order at least. Some possible implications of this result for the maximally extended N = 4 theory are discussed.  相似文献

Using a Lie-theoretical approach an approximative nontrivialS-matrix for the (bosonic) Liouville field theory is constructed. OurS-matrix element is unitary and factorizable in terms of Gamma-functions. We comment also on previous papers on the same subject.  相似文献

The p-loop amplitude of closed bosonic string theory involves the integration over the moduli space. We seek an explicit parametrization of Riemann matrices in terms of 3p - 3 complex variables by solving the Kadomcev-Petviasvili (KP) equation. We find explicit solutions of this problem (Schottky problem) for certain types of degenerate surfaces. For these classes of surfaces, we obtain closed bosonic string amplitudes from the Belavin-Knizhnik theorem using our parametrizations. We show in what precise way they are related to the correlation functions on the Riemann surfaces.  相似文献

A boson-fermion hybrid representation is presented. In this framework, a fermion system is described concurrently by the bosonic and the fermionic degrees of freedom. A fermion pair in this representation can be treated as a boson without violating the Pauli principle. Furthermore the “bosonic interactions” are shown to originate from the exchange processes of the fermions and can be calculated from the original fermion interactions. Both the formulation of the BFH representations for the even and odd nuclear systems are given. We find that the basic equation of the nuclear field theory (NFT) is just the usual Schrödinger equation in such a representation with the empirical NFT diagrammatic rules emerging naturally. This theory was numerically checked in the case of four nucleons moving in a single-j shell and the exactness of the theory was established.  相似文献

Counting the contribution rate of a world-line formula to Feynman diagrams in (φ3 theory, we explain the idea of how to determine precise combinatorics of Bern-Kosower-like amplitudes derived from a bosonic string theory for N-point two-loop Feynman amplitudes. In this connection we also present a method to derive simple and compact world-line forms for the effective action.  相似文献

Superconformal field theory is used to compute off-shell amplitudes for the superstring. Off-shell three- and four-point functions in Witten's superstring field theory are obtained. The problem of gauge invariance due to the associativity anomaly in the bosonic sector is resolved to order g2.  相似文献

It is known that the localization length scaling of noninteracting electrons near the quantum Hall plateau transition can be described in a theory of the bosonic density operators, with no reference to the underlying fermions. The resulting “Liouvillian” theory has a U(1|1) global supersymmetry as well as a hierarchy of geometric conservation laws related to the noncommutative geometry of the lowest Landau level (LLL). Approximations to the Liouvillian theory contain quite different physics from standard approximations to the underlying fermionic theory. Mean-field and large-N generalizations of the Liouvillian are shown to describe problems of noninteracting bosons that enlarge the U(1|1) supersymmetry to U(1|1)×SO(N) or U(1|1)×SU(N).These noninteracting bosonic problems are studied numerically for 2⩽N⩽8 by Monte Carlo simulation and compared to the original N=1 Liouvillian theory. The N>1 generalizations preserve the first two of the hierarchy of geometric conservation laws, leading to logarithmic corrections at order 1/N to the diffusive large-N limit, but do not preserve the remaining conservation laws. The emergence of nontrivial scaling at the plateau transition, in the Liouvillian approach, is shown to depend sensitively on the unusual geometry of Landau levels.  相似文献

The N-string tree-level scattering vertices for the bosonic string are extended to include anticommuting (ghost) oscillators. These vertices behave correctly under the action of the BRST charge Q and reproduce the known results for the scattering of physical states. This work is an application of the group-theoretic approach to string theory.  相似文献

The usual theory of supermanifold is extended to the case that contains (anti)commuting variable pairs with oppositeU numbers. The symplectic geometry and geometric quantization on such a special manifold are discussed in detail. As applications, the BRST system with finite dimensional first class constraints and bosonic strings are investigated systematically.  相似文献

In a new approach to the theory of integration over Wess-Zumino supermanifolds, we suggest that a fundamental principle is their consistency with an “Ethereal Conjecture” that asserts the topology of the supermanifold must be generated essentially from its bosonic submanifold. This naturally leads to a theory of “ectoplasmic” integration based on super p-forms. One consequence of this approach is that the derivation of “density projection operators” becomes trivial in a number of supergravity theories.  相似文献

The effect of a fermion with angular momentum j on quantum phase transitions of a (s,d) bosonic system is investigated. It is shown that the presence of a fermion strongly modifies the critical value at which the transition occurs, and its nature, even for small and moderate values of the coupling constant. The analogy with a bosonic system in an external field is mentioned. Experimental evidence for precursors of quantum phase transitions in bosonic systems plus a fermion (odd-even nuclei) is presented.  相似文献

We calculate the one loop partition functions of a toroidally compactified open bosonic string (fromD=26 toD=10) in the path integral formalism. By a certain combination of the compactified sectors it is shown that the partition functions of a compactified open bosonic string vanish in both annulus and Möbius strip topologies as in the open superstring case. We also discuss the consistency requirement for the equivalence between the compactified open bosonic string and the open superstring with the gauge groups (SO(8192) andSO(32), respectively.  相似文献
