It is proved that there exists an infinite sequence of finitely based semigroup varieties such that, for all i, an equational theory for and for the class of all finite semigroups in is undecidable while an equational theory for and for the class of all finite semigroups in is decidable. An infinite sequence of finitely based semigroup varieties is constructed so that, for all i, an equational theory for and for the class of all finite semigroups in is decidable whicle an equational theory for and for the class of all finite semigroups in is not.  相似文献

Let be a reductive Lie algebra over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero and an arbitrary -grading. We consider the variety , which is called the commuting variety associated with the -grading. Earlier it was proved by the author that is irreducible, if the -grading is of maximal rank. Now we show that is irreducible for and (E6,F4). In the case of symmetric pairs of rank one, we show that the number of irreducible components of is equal to that of nonzero non--regular nilpotent G 0-orbits in . We also discuss a general problem of the irreducibility of commuting varieties.  相似文献

Let be a finitely generated group and X its Cayley graph with respect to a finite, symmetric generating set S. Furthermore, let be a finite group and the lamplighter group (wreath product) over with group of “lamps” . We show that the spectral measure (Plancherel measure) of any symmetric “switch–walk–switch” random walk on coincides with the expected spectral measure (integrated density of states) of the random walk with absorbing boundary on the cluster of the group identity for Bernoulli site percolation on X with parameter . The return probabilities of the lamplighter random walk coincide with the expected (annealed) return probabilities on the percolation cluster. In particular, if the clusters of percolation with parameter are almost surely finite then the spectrum of the lamplighter group is pure point. This generalizes results of Grigorchuk and Żuk, resp. Dicks and Schick regarding the case when is infinite cyclic. Analogous results relate bond percolation with another lamplighter random walk. In general, the integrated density of states of site (or bond) percolation with arbitrary parameter is always related with the Plancherel measure of a convolution operator by a signed measure on , where or another suitable group. Here we study in detail the groups of automorphisms , , , related to a maximal chain structure . The peak algebra is a unital subalgebra of the symmetric group algebra, linearly spanned by sums of permutations with a common set of peaks. By exploiting the combinatorics of sparse subsets of [n−1] (and of certain classes of compositions of n called almost-odd and thin), we construct three new linear bases of . We discuss two peak analogs of the first Eulerian idempotent and construct a basis of semi-idempotent elements for the peak algebra. We use these bases to describe the Jacobson radical of and to characterize the elements of in terms of the canonical action of the symmetric groups on the tensor algebra of a vector space. We define a chain of ideals of , j = 0,..., , such that is the linear span of sums of permutations with a common set of interior peaks and is the peak algebra. Let X 1, ..., X N denote N independent, symmetric Lévy processes on R d . The corresponding additive Lévy process is defined as the following N-parameter random field on R d : Khoshnevisan and Xiao (Ann Probab 30(1):62–100, 2002) have found a necessary and sufficient condition for the zero-set of to be non-trivial with positive probability. They also provide bounds for the Hausdorff dimension of which hold with positive probability in the case that can be non-void. Here we prove that the Hausdorff dimension of is a constant almost surely on the event . Moreover, we derive a formula for the said constant. This portion of our work extends the well known formulas of Horowitz (Israel J Math 6:176–182, 1968) and Hawkes (J Lond Math Soc 8:517–525, 1974) both of which hold for one-parameter Lévy processes. More generally, we prove that for every nonrandom Borel set F in (0,∞) N , the Hausdorff dimension of is a constant almost surely on the event . This constant is computed explicitly in many cases. Passive systems with and as an input and output space and as a state space are considered in the case that the main operator on the state space is normal. Basic properties are given and a general unitary similarity result involving some spectral theoretic conditions on the main operator is established. A passive system with is said to be quasi-selfadjoint if ran . The subclass of the Schur class is the class formed by all transfer functions of quasi-selfadjoint passive systems. The subclass is characterized and minimal passive quasi-selfadjoint realizations are studied. The connection between the transfer function belonging to the subclass and the Q-function of T is given. A construction is defined which associates, to every algebra of a fixed but arbitrary finite similarity type, a groupoidF . The identities ofF are finitely based if and only if those of are, andF is finite if and only if is finite. Up to isomorphism,F has the same endomorphism monoid and subalgebra lattice as , but the congruence lattice ofF is the result of adjoining a new 1 to the congruence lattice of .F is functorial, preserves the satisfaction (and the non-satisfaction) of most Mal'cev conditions, and produces, by composition with the operation of forming the generated variety, an isomorphism of the lattice of varieties of fixed type to an interval in the lattice of varieties of groupoids.The construction makes use of a new product operation, applicable to two algebras of differing similarity types, which is introduced and studied in this paper.Research supported by National Science Foundation grant MCS-8103455.Presented by K. We study the Yangians associated with the simple Lie algebras of type B, C or D. The algebra can be regarded as a quotient of the extended Yangian whose defining relations are written in an R-matrix form. In this paper we are concerned with the algebraic structure and representations of the algebra . We prove an analog of the Poincaré–Birkhoff–Witt theorem for and show that the Yangian can be realized as a subalgebra of . Furthermore, we give an independent proof of the classification theorem for the finite-dimensional irreducible representations of which implies the corresponding theorem of Drinfeld for the Yangians . We also give explicit constructions for all fundamental representation of the Yangians. Given a Lie superalgebra , we introduce several variants of the representation ring, built as subrings and quotients of the ring of virtual -supermodules, up to (even) isomorphisms. In particular, we consider the ideal of virtual -supermodules isomorphic to their own parity reversals, as well as an equivariant K-theoretic super representation ring on which the parity reversal operator takes the class of a virtual -supermodule to its negative. We also construct representation groups built from ungraded -modules, as well as degree-shifted representation groups using Clifford modules. The full super representation ring , including all degree shifts, is then a -graded ring in the complex case and a -graded ring in the real case. Our primary result is a six-term periodic exact sequence relating the rings , and . We first establish a version of it working over an arbitrary (not necessarily algebraically closed) field of characteristic 0. In the complex case, this six-term periodic long exact sequence splits into two three-term sequences, which gives us additional insight into the structure of the complex super representation ring . In the real case, we obtain the expected 24-term version, as well as a surprising six-term version, of this periodic exact sequence. (Received: October 2004)  相似文献

We prove that for one variable X we have if and only if the completion of (K, ) is locally compact or algebraically closed. In the second case—i.e. if K is dense in the algebraic closure of (K, )—we even get for any number of variables X=(X1,...,Xn). LetR be a unital associative ring and two classes of leftR-modules. In [St3] the notion of a ( ) pair was introduced. In analogy to classical cotorsion pairs, a pair (V,W) of subclasses is called a ( ) pair if it is maximal with respect to the classes and the condition Ext R 1 (V, W)=0 for all . In this paper we study pairs whereR = ℤ and is the class of all torsion-free abelian groups andT is the class of all torsion abelian groups. A complete characterization is obtained assumingV=L. Let R be a (not necessarily local) Noetherian ring and M a finitely generated R-module of finite dimension d. Let be an ideal of R and denote the intersection of all prime ideals . It is shown that
where for an Artinian R-module A we put A. As a consequence, it is proved that for all ideals of R, there are only finitely many non-isomorphic top local cohomology modules having the same support. We study the distribution of closed geodesics on nilmanifolds Γ \ N arising from a 2-step nilpotent Lie algebra constructed from an irreducible representation of a compact semisimple Lie algebra on a real finite dimensional vector space U. We observe that the analogue of the Gelfand–Zeitlin action on , which exists on any symplectic manifold M with an Hamiltonian action of , has a natural interpretation as a residual action, after we identify M with a symplectic quotient of . We also show that the Gelfand–Zeitlin actions on and on the regular part of can be identified with natural Hamiltonian actions on spaces of rational maps into full flag manifolds, while the Gelfand–Zeitlin action on the whole corresponds to a natural action on a space of rational maps into the manifold of half-full flags in . Let A be a self-adjoint operator on a Hilbert space . Assume that the spectrum of A consists of two disjoint components σ0 and σ1. Let V be a bounded operator on , off-diagonal and J-self-adjoint with respect to the orthogonal decomposition where and are the spectral subspaces of A associated with the spectral sets σ0 and σ1, respectively. We find (optimal) conditions on V guaranteeing that the perturbed operator LAV is similar to a self-adjoint operator. Moreover, we prove a number of (sharp) norm bounds on the variation of the spectral subspaces of A under the perturbation V. Some of the results obtained are reformulated in terms of the Krein space theory. As an example, the quantum harmonic oscillator under a -symmetric perturbation is discussed.
