Skew Group Rings which are Semi-Hereditary Orders and Prüfer Orders in Simple Artinian Rings

Let R be a commutative ring, let G be a finite group acting on R as automorphisms of R and let R * G be the skew group ring. By using the decomposition subgroups of G, the inertial subgroups of G, the properties of the coefficient ring R and the properties of the fixed subring R ^G , some necessary and sufficient conditions for R * G to be a prime Goldie ring, a semi-hereditary order in a simple Artinian ring, or a Prüfer order in a simple Artinian ring are given.     

Uniserial Noetherian centrally essential rings

Abstract

It is proved that a ring R is a right uniserial, right Noetherian centrally essential ring if and only if R is a commutative discrete valuation domain or a left and right Artinian, left and right uniserial ring. It is also proved that there exist non-commutative uniserial Artinian centrally essential rings.     

The minimal polynomial of a matrix

Let Rbe a finite dimensional central simple algebra over a field FA be any n× n matrix over R. By using the method of matrix representation, this paper obtains the structure formula of the minimal polynomial q_A(λ) of A over F. By using q_A(λ), this paper discusses the structure of right (left) eigenvalues set of A, and obtains the necessary and sufficient condition that a matrix over a finite dimensional central division algebra is similar to a diagonal matrix.     

Some explicit formulas for the polynomial decomposition of the matrix exponential and applications

This paper is devoted to the study of some formulas for polynomial decomposition of the exponential of a square matrix A. More precisely, we suppose that the minimal polynomial M_A(X) of A is known and has degree m. Therefore, e^tA is given in terms of P₀(A),…,P_m−1(A), where the P_j(A) are polynomials in A of degree less than m, and some explicit analytic functions. Examples and applications are given. In particular, the two cases m=5 and m=6 are considered.

Quasiassociative Algebras with Simple Artinian Null Part

We prove that any quasiassociative algebra with simple Artinian null part is isomorphic to a unique matrix algebra M_n(), where is a quasiassociative division algebra.

Study of Morita contexts

Matrix congruence can be used to mimic linear maps between homogeneous quadratic polynomials in n variables. We introduce a generalization, called standard-form congruence, which mimics affine maps between non-homogeneous quadratic polynomials. Canonical forms under standard-form congruence for three-by-three matrices are derived. This is then used to give a classification of algebras defined by two generators and one degree two relation. We also apply standard-form congruence to classify homogenizations of these algebras.     

Embeddings in Artinian rings and Sylvester rank functions

Using Sylvester rank functions it is shown that a right Noetherian algebra, modulo the torsion ideal determined by elements regular modulo its nil radical, is embeddable in a simple Artinian ring. This is used to show that a right Noetherian algebra which is right Krull homogeneous embeds in a simple Artinian ring, and that a right Noetherian affine algebra satisfying a polynomial identity embeds in a simple Artinian ring. The residue field as a high syzygy

In this paper, we study commutative local rings whose residue field is a high syzygy. We are able to characterize such rings with embedding dimension at most 3 as those that are Artinian and Gorenstein.

Linear recurrence relations in the algebra of matrices and applications

We study here some linear recurrence relations in the algebra of square matrices. With the aid of the Cayley–Hamilton Theorem, we derive some explicit formulas for Aⁿ (nr) and e^tA for every r×r matrix A, in terms of the coefficients of its characteristic polynomial and matrices A^j, where 0jr−1.     

Group inverses for some 2 × 2 block matrices over rings

We first consider the group inverses of the block matrices (A0BC) over a weakly finite ring. Then we study the sufficient and necessary conditions for the existence and the representations of the group inverses of the block matrices (ACBD) over a ring with unity 1 under the following conditions respectively: (i) B = C, D = 0, B^# and (B^πA) ^# both exist; (ii) B is invertible and m = n; (iii) A^# and (D - CA^#B)^# both exist, C = CAA^# , where A and D are m × m and n × n matrices, respectively.     

An Artinian theory for Lie algebras

Complemented Lie algebras are introduced in this paper (a notion similar to that studied by O. Loos and E. Neher in Jordan pairs). We prove that a Lie algebra is complemented if and only if it is a direct sum of simple nondegenerate Artinian Lie algebras. Moreover, we classify simple nondegenerate Artinian Lie algebras over a field of characteristic 0 or greater than 7, and describe the Lie inner ideal structure of simple Lie algebras arising from simple associative algebras with nonzero socle.     

Cyclic Artinian Modules without a Composition Series

Let R be a ring (always understood to be associative with aunit element 1). It is well known that an R-module is Noetherianif and only if all its submodules are finitely generated andthat it has a finite composition series if and only if it isNoetherian and Artinian. This raises the question whether everyfinitely generated Artinian module is Noetherian; here it isenough to consider cyclic Artinian modules, by an inductionon the length. This question has been answered (negatively)by Brian Hartley [5], who gives a construction of an Artinianuniserial module of uncountable composition-length over thegroup algebra of a free group of countable rank. If we are justinterested in finding cyclic modules that are Artinian but notNoetherian, there is a very simple construction based on thefact that over a free algebra every countably generated Artinianmodule can be embedded in a cyclic module which is again Artinian.This is described in 2 below.
