We discuss a D-dimensional Abelian 3-form gauge theory within the framework of Bonora-Tonin’s superfield formalism and derive the off-shell nilpotent and absolutely anticommuting Becchi-Rouet-Stora-Tyutin (BRST) and anti-BRST symmetry transformations for this theory. To pay our homage to Victor I. Ogievetsky (1928–1996), who was one of the inventors of Abelian 2-form (antisymmetric tensor) gauge field, we go a step further and discuss the above D-dimensional Abelian 3-form gauge theory within the framework of BRST formalism and establish that the existence of the (anti-)BRST invariant Curci-Ferrari (CF) type of restrictions is the hallmark of any arbitrary p-form gauge theory (discussed within the framework of BRST formalism).  相似文献

Within the framework of the Becchi–Rouet–Stora–Tyutin (BRST) formalism, we demonstrate the existence of the novel off-shell nilpotent (anti-)dual-BRST symmetries in the context of a six (5+1)-dimensional (6D) free Abelian 3-form gauge theory. Under these local and continuous symmetry transformations, the total gauge-fixing term of the Lagrangian density remains invariant. This observation should be contrasted with the off-shell nilpotent (anti-)BRST symmetry transformations, under which, the total kinetic term of the theory remains invariant. The anticommutator of the above nilpotent (anti-)BRST and (anti-)dual-BRST transformations leads to the derivation of a bosonic symmetry in the theory. There exists a discrete symmetry transformation in the theory which provides a thread of connection between the nilpotent (anti-)BRST and (anti-)dual-BRST transformations. This theory is endowed with a ghost-scale symmetry, too. We discuss the algebra of these symmetry transformations and show that the structure of the algebra is reminiscent of the algebra of de Rham cohomological operators of differential geometry.  相似文献

We clearly and consistently supersymmetrize the celebrated horizontality condition to derive the off-shell nilpotent and absolutely anticommuting Becchi?CRouet?CStora?CTyutin (BRST) and anti-BRST symmetry transformations for the supersymmetric system of a free spinning relativistic particle within the framework of superfield approach to BRST formalism. For the precise determination of the proper (anti-)BRST symmetry transformations for all the bosonic and fermionic dynamical variables of our system, we consider the present theory on a (1,2)-dimensional supermanifold parameterized by an even (bosonic) variable (??) and a pair of odd (fermionic) variables ?? and $\bar{\theta}$ (with $\theta^{2} = \bar{\theta}^{2} = 0$ , $\theta\bar{\theta}+ \bar{\theta}\theta= 0$ ) of the Grassmann algebra. One of the most important and novel features of our present investigation is the derivation of (anti-)BRST invariant Curci?CFerrari type restriction which turns out to be responsible for the absolute anticommutativity of the (anti-)BRST transformations and existence of the coupled (but equivalent) Lagrangians for the present theory of a supersymmetric system. These observations are completely new results for this model.  相似文献

We derive the off-shell nilpotent (anti-)BRST symmetry transformations for the interacting U(1) gauge theory of quantum electrodynamics (QED) in the framework of the augmented superfield approach to the BRST formalism. In addition to the horizontality condition, we invoke another gauge invariant condition on the six (4,2)-dimensional supermanifold to obtain the exact and unique nilpotent symmetry transformations for all the basic fields present in the (anti-)BRST invariant Lagrangian density of the physical four (3+1)-dimensional QED. The above supermanifold is parametrized by four even space–time variables (with μ=0,1,2,3) and two odd variables (θ and ) of the Grassmann algebra. The new gauge invariant condition on the supermanifold owes its origin to the (super) covariant derivatives and leads to the derivation of unique nilpotent symmetry transformations for the matter fields. The geometrical interpretations for all the above off-shell nilpotent (anti-)BRST transformations are also discussed. PACS 11.15.-q, 12.20.-m, 03.70.+k  相似文献

The geometrical approach to the functional integral over Faddeev-Popov ghost fields is developed and applied to construct the BRST extension of the off-shell closed string amplitudes in the constant curvature gauge. In this gauge the overlap path integral for off-shell amplitudes is evaluated. It leads to the nonlocal sewing procedure generating all off-shell amplitudes from the cubic interaction vertex. The general scheme of the reconstruction of a covariant closed string field theory from the off-shell amplitudes is discussed within the path integral framework.  相似文献

We write the gauge fixed action which arises in the quantization of Witten's string field theory in a linear gauge, in a form which applies to both the superstring and the bosonic string. The corresponding BRST transformation is nilpotent only on-shell. We construct also an off-shell nilpotent BRST transformation which formally leaves invariant the quantum effective action. This BRST transformation has a geometrical interpretation which could allow to describe the gauge anomalies of the superstring field theory as the nontrivial cohomology of the BRST charge via the Wess-Zumino consistency condition.  相似文献

We derive the complete set of off-shell nilpotent \(\left (s^{2}_{(a)b} = 0\right )\) and absolutely anticommuting (sbsab+sabsb=0) Becchi-Rouet-Stora-Tyutin (BRST) (sb) as well as anti-BRST symmetry transformations (sab) corresponding to the combined Yang-Mills and non-Yang-Mills symmetries of the (2+1)-dimensional Jackiw-Pi model within the framework of augmented superfield formalism. The absolute anticommutativity of the (anti-)BRST symmetries is ensured by the existence of two sets of Curci-Ferrari (CF) type of conditions which emerge naturally in this formalism. The presence of CF conditions enables us to derive the coupled but equivalent Lagrangian densities. We also capture the (anti-)BRST invariance of the coupled Lagrangian densities in the superfield formalism. The derivation of the (anti-)BRST transformations of the auxiliary field ρ is one of the key findings which can neither be generated by the nilpotent (anti-)BRST charges nor by the requirements of the nilpotency and/or absolute anticommutativity of the (anti-)BRST transformations. Finally, we provide a bird’s-eye view on the role of auxiliary field for various massive models and point out few striking similarities and some glaring differences among them.  相似文献

The classical (non-quantum) cohomology of the Becchi-Rouet-Stora-Tyutin (BRST) symmetry in phase space is defined and worked out. No group action for the gauge transformations is assumed. The results cover, therefore, the general case of an open algebra and are valid off-shell. Each cohomology class contains all BRST invariant functions with fixed ghost number (an integer) which differ from each other by a BRST variation. If the ghost number is negative there is only the trivial class whose elements are equivalent to zero. If the ghost number is positive or zero there is a bijective correspondence between the BRST classes and those of the exterior derivative along the gauge orbits. These gauge orbits lie in the phase space surface on which the gauge generators are constrained to vanish. The BRST invariant functions of ghost numberp are then related to closedp-forms along the orbits. The addition of a BRST variation corresponds to the addition of an exact form. Some comments about the quantum case are included. The physical meaning of the classes with ghost number greater than zero is not discussed.Chercheur qualifié du Fonds National de la Recherche Scientifique (Belgium)  相似文献

In this work we develop the BRST approach to Lagrangian construction for the massive integer higher spin fields in an arbitrary dimensional AdS space. The theory is formulated in terms of auxiliary Fock space. Closed nonlinear symmetry algebra of higher spin bosonic theory in AdS space is found and a method of deriving the BRST operator for such an algebra is proposed. A general procedure of Lagrangian construction, describing the dynamics of a bosonic field with any spin is given on the base of the BRST operator. No off-shell constraints on the fields and the gauge parameters are used from the very beginning. As an example of general procedure, we derive the Lagrangians for massive bosonic fields with spin 0, 1 and 2, containing the total set of auxiliary fields and gauge symmetries.  相似文献

Using the Ward-Takahashi identity, on-shell condition, bound Dirac equation and off-shell expansion, a reduced version of half off-shell virtual photon nucleon vertex has been suggested. The vertex are decomposed into several different order terms: the on-shell terms, first and second off-shell terms. The off-shell behaviour of the form factors is discussed in the one meson loop model. Using the reduced vertex and parametrized off-shell form factors the quasielastic response functions are calculated for several nuclei at ¦q¦–kf and for56Fe at large ¦q¦ up to 1.14 GeV/c and at ?q2=0.9 (GeV/c)2. The Coulomb sums are evaluated and a comparison of the theoretical prediction with data is given. The off-shell electron nucleon cross section is calculated and compared with the “cc1” off-shell extrapolation.  相似文献

We derive the nilpotent (anti-) BRST symmetry transformations for the Dirac (matter) fields of an interacting four (3+1)-dimensional 1-form non-Abelian gauge theory by applying the theoretical arsenal of augmented superfield formalism where (i) the horizontality condition, and (ii) the equality of a gauge invariant quantity, on the six (4,2)-dimensional supermanifold, are exploited together. The above supermanifold is parameterized by four bosonic spacetime coordinates xμ (with μ=0,1,2,3) and a couple of Grassmannian variables θ and θ̄. The on-shell nilpotent BRST symmetry transformations for all the fields of the theory are derived by considering the chiral superfields on the five (4,1)-dimensional super sub-manifold and the off-shell nilpotent symmetry transformations emerge from the consideration of the general superfields on the full six (4,2)-dimensional supermanifold. Geometrical interpretations for all the above nilpotent symmetry transformations are also discussed within the framework of augmented superfield formalism.  相似文献

Exact analytical expression for the Hulthén off-shell Jost solution is constructed by using the particular integral of the inhomogeneous Schrödinger equation. The Jost solution is exploited to calculate the off-shell physical solution and in turn the off-shell T-matrix. The off-shell T-matrices are computed for the (n-p) and (n-d) systems and are found in order with respect to its half-shell behavior.  相似文献

Some of the key cohomological features of the two (1 + 1)-dimensional (2D) free Abelian- and self-interacting non-Abelian gauge theories (having no interaction with matter fields) are briefly discussed first in the language of symmetry properties of the Lagrangian densities and the same issues are subsequently addressed in the framework of superfield formulation on the four (2 + 2)-dimensional supermanifold. Special emphasis is laid on the on-shell- and off-shell nilpotent (co-)BRST symmetries that emerge after the application of (dual) horizontality conditions on the supermanifold. The (anti-)chiral superfields play a very decisive role in the derivation of the on-shell nilpotent symmetries. The study of the present superfield formulation leads to the derivation of some new symmetries for the Lagrangian density and the symmetric energy-momentum tensor. The topological nature of the above theories is captured in the framework of superfield formulation and the geometrical interpretations are provided for some of the topologically interesting quantities.  相似文献

A strong absorption model for pion-induced knock-out reactions is proposed. The distortion of the incoming and outgoing pions has been included by (i) computing the pion wave number in a nuclear medium (dispersive effect) and (ii) excluding the central region of the nucleus where the real pion absorption is dominant (absorption effect). In order to study the dependence of the (π+, π+p) reaction on the off-shell pion-nucleon t-matrix, different off-shell extrapolations are used. The magnitude of the cross sections seems to be sensitive to the type of off-shell extrapolation; their shapes, however, are similar. The theoretical results are compared with experimental data. The agreement between the theoretical results for separable off-shell extrapolation and the data is good.  相似文献

By means of a generalized quartet mechanism we show in a model independent way that a BRST quantization on an inner product space leads to physical states of the form ph〉 = exp [Q, ψ]ph〉0 where Q is the nilpotent BRST operator, ψ a hermitian fermionic gauge-fixing operator, and ph〉o BRST invariant states determined by a hermitian set of BRST doublets in involution. ph〉0 does not belong to an inner product space although ph〉 does. Since the BRST quartets are split into two sets of hermitian BRST doublets there are two choices for ph〉0 and the corresponding ψ. When applied to general, both irreducible and reducible, gauge theories of arbitrary rank within the BFV formulation we find that ph〉0 are trivial BRST invariant states which only depend on the matter variables for one set of solutions, and for the other set ph〉0 are solutions of a Dirac quantization. This generalizes previous Lie group solutions obtained by means of a bigrading.  相似文献

An approach which makes the first order pion-nucleus optical potential theoretically sound is presented. This study should permit higher order improvements to the potential to be more meaningful and the nuclear structure information extracted from pi-nucleus scattering to be more reliable. Based on multiple scattering theory, three optical potentials are constructed and studied in momentum space. These models are the popular Kisslinger potential, the local “Laplacian” potential, and an “improved off-shell potential;” the latter one is derived from absorptive separable pion-nucleon potentials which exactly reproduce on-shell πN scattering. By working in momentum space and explicitly including πN resonances and off-shell effects in the definition of the optical potential, the approach described here is capable of handling any number of pi-nucleon partial waves, is applicable over a very wide energy region, is based on a physical model for off-shell behavior, and is extended easily to include higher order effects. The optical potentials are inserted into two different relativistic wave equations to determine the total cross section and elastic differential cross section for pi-nucleus scattering. It is found that the various models for off-shell πN scattering determine significantly different πC12 scattering, with the improved off-shell model preferred on theoretical grounds. Also discussed is the importance of properly transforming πN scattering to the pi-nucleus c.m. system, the origin of the shift in the peak position of the π?C total cross section, and the reason for the increased diffractive nature of the differential cross section at 180 MeV.  相似文献

The mutual interaction of a pair of fermions imbedded in a many-body system of identical particles when they are excited out of the filled Fermi sea, is studied via the T-matrix or transition amplitude specified by the Bethe-Goldstone (BG) equation. The role of the bare two-body interaction is emphasised, and in particular the consequences are elucidated of whether the potential is “well-behaved” (nonsingular) or not. The properties of the BG T-matrix, including generalized orthonormality and completeness relations, are derived both for nonsingular potentials and for singular potentials containing an infinite hard core. General analytic properties are exploited to derive relations that express the fully off-shell BG T-matrix purely in terms of the half-shell amplitude (and the properties of any possible bound states in the medium). The general formalism is illustrated by deriving exact analytic expressions for the fully off-shell BG T-matrices for a pair of particles with equal and opposite momenta interacting via either of two singular model interactions; namely, the pure hard-core interaction and the boundary condition model. Results for both models are expressed in terms of the solution to a simple one-dimensional Fredholm integral equation. The analytic properties of the solutions are discussed and exploited to prove both their uniqueness and that they satisfy the various general relations derived. To our knowledge, these results represent the first exact nontrivial solution to the fully off-shell BG equation for any local potential, or singular limiting case thereof.  相似文献

Using a BRST invariant three-reggeon vertex we construct an explicit expression for the BRST invariant planar tadpole operator for the bosonic string. Joined to an (N+1)-reggeon vertex it yields the correct expression for the one-loop N-tachyon amplitude.  相似文献

The usual theory of supermanifold is extended to the case that contains (anti)commuting variable pairs with oppositeU numbers. The symplectic geometry and geometric quantization on such a special manifold are discussed in detail. As applications, the BRST system with finite dimensional first class constraints and bosonic strings are investigated systematically.  相似文献
