In a recent paper [A. Sisman, I. Muller, Phys. Lett. A 320 (2004) 360] the thermodynamic properties of ideal gases confined in a narrow box were examined theoretically. The so-called “thermosize effects” similar to thermoelectric effects, such as Seebeck-like thermosize effect, Peltier-like thermosize effect and Thomson-like thermosize effect, were analyzed. Like the thermoelectric generator, based on the thermosize effects we have established a model of micro/nano scaled ideal gas heat engine cycle which includes two isothermal and two isobaric processes. The expressions of power output and efficiency of this cycle in the two cases of reversible and irreversible heat exchange are derived and the optimal performance characteristics of the heat engine is discussed by some numerical example. The results obtained here will provide theoretical guidance for the design of micro/nano scaled device.  相似文献

Three novel states of electrons on a helium film are described. The first is a diplon, an electron trapped by a positive charge located on a substrate beneath the film, the second is a variation of the first leading to the possibility of a two-dimensional metal-insulator transition, and the third is a ripplonic polaron, an electron self-trapped in a surface dimple. From a survey of experimental searches for the ripplonic polaron state I conclude that no polaron transition occurs on films thicker than 14 nm at T>1.5 K.  相似文献

We report on the observation of highly anisotropic viscous electronic conducting phase in amorphous WO1.55 films that occurs below a current (I)- and frequency (f  )-dependent temperature T(I,f)T(I,f). At T<T(I,f)T<T(I,f) the rotational symmetry of randomly disordered electronic background is broken leading to the appearance of mutually perpendicular metallic- and insulating-like states. A rich dynamic behavior of the electronic matter occurring at T<T(I,f)T<T(I,f) provides evidence for an interplay between pinning effects and electron–electron interactions. The results suggest a dynamic crystallization of the disordered electronic matter, viz. formation of sliding Wigner crystal, as well as the occurrence of quantum liquid-like crystal or stripe phase at low drives.  相似文献

This paper proposes and examines three different plots for the determination of the saturation current, the ideality factor, and the series resistance of Schottky diodes and solar cells from the measurement of a single current (I)/voltage(V) curve. All three plots utilize the small signal conductance and avoid the traditional Norde plot completely. A test reveals that the series resistance and the barrier height of a test diode can be determined with an accuracy of better than 1%. Finally it is shown that a numerical agreement between measured and fittedI/V curves is generally insufficient to prove the physical validity of current transport models.  相似文献

Magnetoelastic (ME) waves and thickness-shear modes in the ferromagnetic plate are studied. Coupled vibrations of magnetization and shear elastic deformations excited simultaneously by a variable magnetic field propagate in two mutually perpendicular directions: parallel and normal to a surface. For parameters characteristic of isotropic ferromagnet with the sample magnetization and Zeeman field parallel to the surface, resonant frequencies of shear modes are computed and their dispersion law is examined. It is shown that the dependence of dimensional resonances frequencies on wave number kz of ME wave propagating along saturating field direction occurs. The possibility of excitation of ME waves with different kz explains multimode character of thickness ME resonances.  相似文献

I remember my first encounter with S.S. Kutateladze; this was at the All-Union Conference on Self-Similarity Theory in the conference hall of the Krzhizhanovsky Power Engineering Institute of the USSR Academy of Sciences. The young generation of researchers occupied the balcony places. I remember a bright lecture of young S.S. Kutateladze, who became our “cult figure” from this moment on.  相似文献

The property of a variable charge state makes ions unique to other types of radiation a material surface can be exposed to. As a consequence of charge exchange between ions and surfaces, energy is transferred to the surface and material damage may be triggered. Furthermore, a changing charge state of the ion alters its slowing down process in solids and has important implications when back-scattered ions are to be measured for material analysis purposes. Over the last decades extensive research was devoted to the understanding of ion charge exchange with solids. Here I review recent progress in this field with special emphasize on slow ions in high charge states. This class of ions allows a detailed analysis of charge exchange in experiments, which employ also ultra-thin solid targets and therefore give experimental access to electronic processes on the femtosecond timescale. In this review I will discuss general properties of charge exchange and present typical experimental techniques. I will also discuss current developments in the modelling and simulation of ion-surface interaction. Recent findings using freestanding 2D materials are discussed as well as results from spectroscopy of emitted secondary particles. The paper concludes with a unified picture of ion charge exchange at surfaces and presents possible applications based on the understanding of the underlying physics.  相似文献

A classification of quantum systems into three categories, type I, II and III, is proposed. The classification is based on the degree of sensitivity upon initial conditions, and the appearance of chaos. The quantum dynamics of type I systems is quasi periodic displaying no exponential sensitivity. They arise, e.g., as the quantized versions of classical chaotic systems. Type II systems are obtained when classical and quantum degrees of freedom are coupled. Such systems arise naturally in a dynamic extension of the first step of the Born-Oppenheimer approximation, and are of particular importance to molecular and solid state physics. Type II systems can show exponential sensitivity in the quantum subsystem. Type III systems are fully quantized systems which show exponential sensitivity in the quantum dynamics. No example of a type III system is currently established. This paper presents a detailed discussion of a type II quantum chaotic system which models a coupled electronic-vibronic system. It is argued that type II systems are of importance for any field systems (not necessarily quantum) that couple to classical degrees of freedom.  相似文献

The quantitative analytic capability of a fs/ns dual-pulse Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy technique, based on the orthogonal reheating of a fs-laser ablation plume by a ns-laser pulse, is presented. In this work, it is shown how the effect played by the delay times between the two laser beams can vary the analytical response of this dual-pulse LIBS configuration. In order to address this task, the Sn, Pb and Zn calibration curves of five certified copper-based samples have been investigated. These calibration curves have been obtained, in air at atmospheric pressure, by integrating the emission data collected in two different inter-pulse delay zones, one in the delay interval of 1-41 μs, the other within the range of 46-196 μs. For drawing the species calibration curves, the emission intensities of the considered Pb(I), Sn(I) and Zn(I) electronic transitions have been normalized with a non-resonant Cu(I) emission line. The experimental results have shown that, by varying the inter-pulse delay between the two laser beams, complementary analytical results can be induced. By considering at once all data acquired within the inter-pulse delay time of 1-196 μs, this hypothesis has been strengthened. The calibration curves obtained in this way are characterized by excellent linear regression coefficients (0.988-0.999) despite of the large Sn, Pb and Zn compositional variation of the targets employed. The results presented reveal, for the first time, that, by taking into account the role played by the inter-pulse delay time between the two laser beams, the fs/ns dual-pulse LIBS configuration here used can be improved and provide very good opportunities for performing quantitative analysis of copper-based alloys.  相似文献

Multiferroics — materials which are simultaneously (ferro)magnetic and ferroelectric, and often also ferroelastic — attract now considerable attention, both because of the interesting physics involved and as they promise important practical applications. In this paper, I give a survey of microscopic factors determining the coexistence of these properties, and discuss different possible routes to combine them in one material. In particular, the role of the occupation of d-states in transition metal perovskites is discussed, possible role of spiral magnetic structures is stressed, and the novel mechanism of ferroelectricity in magnetic systems due to combination of site-centred and bond-centred charge ordering is presented. Microscopic nature of multiferroic behaviour in several particular materials, including magnetite Fe3O4, is discussed.  相似文献

Over the last fifteen years, there has been tremendous progress in understanding how nuclear structure arises from the nucleon-nucleon interaction. I describe the contribution to this progress made by quantum Monte Carlo computational methods, as well as directions to be taken in future work. Most effort in the past has concentrated on energy spectra, and we have had good success in computing the spectra of systems with A≤12. We are now shifting our attention to off-diagonal and scattering/reaction properties of the light nuclei. I also discuss briefly the relation of quantum Monte Carlo methods to other ab initio methods and their particular relevance for weakly-bound nuclei produced at radioactive-beam facilities.  相似文献

The mode I edge delamination could be initiated due to the presence of the interfacial peeling stresses near the edges of the multilayered systems due to the material mismatches between the adjacent layers. However, the exact peeling stress distributions could not be obtained by using the existing analytical and numerical models. It was proposed recently that the peeling moment resulting from the localized peeling stresses could be used to characterize mode I edge delamination. In this paper, the effect of the graded interlayer on the mode I edge delamination by thermal residual stresses in multilayer coating-based systems was investigated. Following the previous analysis approaches, the exact closed-form solutions for the peeling moments at individual interfaces and the curvatures for bilayer system, typical thermal barrier coating (TBC) system and TBC-based system with a graded interlayer inserted between the metallic layer and the ceramic layer were, respectively, derived. Case studies showed that the edge delamination by thermal stress could be impeded by properly selecting the coating materials and individual layer thicknesses. These studies may provide some important insights for developing fail-safe designing methodologies for multilayered systems.  相似文献

The magnetocrystalline anisotropy of thin magnetic wires of iron and cobalt is quite different from the bulk phases. The spin moment of monatomic Fe wire may be as high as 3.4 μB, while the orbital moment as high as 0.5 μB. The magnetocrystalline anisotropy energy (MAE) was calculated for wires up to 0.6 nm in diameter starting from monatomic wire and adding consecutive shells for thicker wires. I observe that Fe wires exhibit the change sign with the stress applied along the wire. It means that easy axis may change from the direction along the wire to perpendicular to the wire. We find that ballistic conductance of the wire depends on the direction of the applied magnetic field, i.e. shows anisotropic ballistic magnetoresistance. This effect occurs due to the symmetry dependence of the splitting of degenerate bands in the applied field which changes the number of bands crossing the Fermi level. We find that the ballistic conductance changes with applied stress. Even for thicker wires the ballistic conductance changes by factor 2 on moderate tensile stain in our 5×4 model wire. Thus, the ballistic conductance of magnetic wires changes in the applied field due to the magnetostriction. This effect can be observed as large anisotropic BMR in the experiment.  相似文献

Tunneling effect in one-dimensional organic semiconductors in the presence of an external electric field is studied within the framework of a tight-binding model and a nonadiabatic dynamical method. It is found that under a high electric field, electrons can transit from the valence band (VB) to the conduction band (CB), which is demonstrated to be Zener tunneling in organic semiconductors. The results also indicate a field-induced insulator-metal transition accompanied by the vanishing of the energy gap. It is found that, after the field is turned off, the Peierls phase cannot be recovered.  相似文献

The comparison of the classical method of Gordon and the semiclassical formalism of Robert and Bonamy was started in part I of this series of papers, dealing with the acetylene molecule perturbed by a heavy atom (Ar). The case of a light buffer gas (He) is considered in the present study. On the basis of a high-quality ab initio interaction potential, as previously, the influence of the roto-translational coupling on the trajectory parameters and its role in the line broadening at various temperatures are studied within the classical method. In addition, the line width contributions coming from the elastic (reorientation and dephasing) and inelastic collisions are separately analysed in the framework of both theoretical approaches. All these points confirm the previously stated conclusion that the roto-translational interactions play a non-negligible role in the collisional line broadening mechanisms. Also, a particular study in the framework of the classical approach enables some supplementary conclusions about the role of the perturber mass.  相似文献

It has been widely believed that the Hawking temperature for a black hole is uniquely determined by its metric and positive. But, I argue that this might not be true in the recently discovered black holes which include the exotic black holes and the black holes in the three-dimensional higher curvature gravities. I argue that the Hawking temperatures, which are measured by the quantum fields in thermal equilibrium with the black holes, might not be the usual Hawking temperature but the new temperatures that have been proposed recently and can be negative. The associated new entropy formulae, which are defined by the first and second laws of thermodynamics, versus the black hole masses show some genuine effects of the black holes which do not occur in the spin systems. Some cosmological implications and physical origin of the discrepancy with the standard analysis are noted also.  相似文献

Integration of a piezoelectric transformer and an ultrasonic motor   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
Ultrasonic motors are usually operated at an AC voltage higher than a regular battery. This implies the need of a voltage step-up transformer. In this paper, we report the integration of a piezoelectric transformer (PT) with an ultrasonic motor and a simple drive circuit. The stator of the ultrasonic motor and the PT were operated in the same radial vibration mode. Their dimensions were very close to each other yielding nearly matching resonance frequencies. Consequently, they could be combined together without inductor. The drive circuit was designed by using a 555 timer as an astable multivibrator, and high-speed dual MOSFET drivers as a class D half-bridge switching amplifier. This integrated PT-ultrasonic motor performed reasonably without the use of electromagnetic transformer or inductor.  相似文献

We solve a self-consistent equation for the d-wave superconducting gap and the effective exchange field in the mean-field approximation, study the Zeeman effects on the d-wave superconducting gap and thermodynamic potential. The Josephson currents in the d-wave superconductor (S)/insulating layer (I)/d-wave S junction are calculated as a function of the temperature, exchange field, and insulating barrier strength under a Zeeman magnetic field on the two d-wave Ss. It is found that the Josephson critical currents in d-wave S/d-wave S junction depend to a great extent on the relative orientation of the effective exchange field of the two S electrodes, and the crystal orientation of the d-wave S. The exchange field can under certain conditions enhance the Josephson critical current in a d-wave S/I/d-wave S junction.  相似文献
