We give a full characterization of helical polynomial curves of any degree and a simple way to construct them. Existing results about Hermite interpolation are revisited. A simple method to select the best quintic interpolant among all possible solutions is suggested.   相似文献

Hermite interpolation by Pythagorean hodograph curves of degree seven   总被引:6,自引:0,他引:6  

Polynomial Pythagorean hodograph (PH) curves form a remarkable subclass of polynomial parametric curves; they are distinguished by having a polynomial arc length function and rational offsets (parallel curves). Many related references can be found in the article by Farouki and Neff on Hermite interpolation with PH quintics. We extend the Hermite interpolation scheme by taking additional curvature information at the segment boundaries into account. As a result we obtain a new construction of curvature continuous polynomial PH spline curves. We discuss Hermite interpolation of boundary data (points, first derivatives, and curvatures) with PH curves of degree 7. It is shown that up to eight possible solutions can be found by computing the roots of two quartic polynomials. With the help of the canonical Taylor expansion of planar curves, we analyze the existence and shape of the solutions. More precisely, for Hermite data which are taken from an analytical curve, we study the behaviour of the solutions for decreasing stepsize . It is shown that a regular solution is guaranteed to exist for sufficiently small stepsize , provided that certain technical assumptions are satisfied. Moreover, this solution matches the shape of the original curve; the approximation order is 6. As a consequence, any given curve, which is assumed to be (curvature continuous) and to consist of analytical segments can approximately be converted into polynomial PH form. The latter assumption is automatically satisfied by the standard curve representations of Computer Aided Geometric Design, such as Bézier or B-spline curves. The conversion procedure acts locally, without any need for solving a global system of equations. It produces polynomial PH spline curves of degree 7.

Curves in the Minkowski space are very well suited to describe the medial axis transform (MAT) of planar domains. Among them, Minkowski Pythagorean hodograph (MPH) curves correspond to domains where both the boundaries and their offsets admit rational parameterizations (Choi et al., Comput Aided Design 31:59–72, 1999; Moon, Comput Aided Geom Design 16:739–753; 1999). We construct MPH quintics which interpolate two points with associated first derivative vectors and analyze the properties of the system of solutions, including the approximation order of the ‘best’ interpolant.   相似文献

Algorithms based on Pythagorean hodographs (PH) in the Euclidean plane and in Minkowski space share common goals, the main one being rationality of offsets of planar domains. However, only separate interpolation techniques based on these curves can be found in the literature. It was recently revealed that rational PH curves in the Euclidean plane and in Minkowski space are very closely related. In this paper, we continue the discussion of the interplay between spatial MPH curves and their associated planar PH curves from the point of view of Hermite interpolation. On the basis of this approach we design a new, simple interpolation algorithm. The main advantage of the unifying method presented lies in the fact that it uses, after only some simple additional computations, an arbitrary algorithm for interpolation using planar PH curves also for interpolation using spatial MPH curves. We present the functionality of our method for G1 Hermite data; however, one could also obtain higher order algorithms.  相似文献

Geometric Hermite interpolation by spatial Pythagorean-hodograph cubics   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4  
It is shown that, depending upon the orientation of the end tangents t0,t1 relative to the end point displacement vector p=p1p0, the problem of G1 Hermite interpolation by PH cubic segments may admit zero, one, or two distinct solutions. For cases where two interpolants exist, the bending energy may be used to select among them. In cases where no solution exists, we determine the minimal adjustment of one end tangent that permits a spatial PH cubic Hermite interpolant. The problem of assigning tangents to a sequence of points p0,...,pn in R3, compatible with a G1 piecewise-PH-cubic spline interpolating those points, is also briefly addressed. The performance of these methods, in terms of overall smoothness and shape-preservation properties of the resulting curves, is illustrated by a selection of computed examples.  相似文献

We present a method for constructing shape-preserving C 3 interpolants in R 3. The resulting curve is obtained by adding a polynomial perturbation of high degree to a curve which is shape-preserving but not sufficiently smooth. Kestenband [Unital intersections in finite projective planes, Geom. Dedicata 11(1) (1981) 107–117; Degenerate unital intersections in finite projective planes, Geom. Dedicata 13(1) (1982) 101–106] determines the structure of the intersection of two Hermitian curves of PG(2,q2), degenerate or not. In this paper we give a new proof of Kestenband's results. Giuzzi [Hermitian varieties over finite field, Ph.D. Thesis, University of Sussex, 2001] determines the structure of the intersection of two non-degenerate Hermitian surfaces and of PG(3,q2) when the Hermitian pencil defined by and contains at least one degenerate Hermitian surface. We give a new proof of Giuzzi's results and we obtain some new results in the open case when all the Hermitian surfaces of the Hermitian pencil are non-degenerate.  相似文献

This work deals with classical differential geometry of isotropic curves in the complex space C4. First, we study spherical isotropic curves and pseudo helices. Besides, in this section we introduce some special isotropic helices (type-1, type-2 and type-3 isotropic slant helices) and express some characterizations of them in terms of É. Cartan equations. Thereafter, we prove that position vector of an isotropic curve satisfies a vector differential equation of fourth order. Finally, we investigate position vector of an arbitrary curve with respect to É. Cartan frame by a system of complex differential equations whose solution gives components of the position vector. Solutions of the mentioned system and vector differential equation have not yet been found. Therefore, in terms of special cases, we present some special characterizations.  相似文献

When fitting parametric polynomial curves to sequences of points or derivatives we have to choose suitable parameter values at the interpolation points. This paper investigates the effect of the parameterization on the approximation order of the interpolation. We show that chord length parameter values yield full approximation order when the polynomial degree is at most three. We obtain full approximation order for arbitrary degree by developing an algorithm which generates more and more accurate approximations to arc length: the lengths of the segments of an interpolant of one degree provide parameter intervals for interpolants of degree two higher. In [7], Mainò constructed a moduli space for enriched stable curves, by blowing-up the moduli space of Deligne–Mumford stable curves. We introduce enriched spin curves, showing that a parameter space for these objects is obtained by blowing-up the moduli space of spin curves. The focal curve of an immersed smooth curve γ : θγ (θ), in Euclidean space ℝm+1, consists of the centres of its osculating hyperspheres. This curve may be parametrised in terms of the Frenet frame of γ (t, n1, . . . , nm), as Cγ (θ) = (γ +c1n1+ c2n2 + • • • + cmnm)(θ), where the coefficients c1, . . . , cm-1 are smooth functions that we call the focal curvatures of γ . We discovered a remarkable formula relating the Euclidean curvatures κi , i = 1, . . . ,m, of γ with its focal curvatures. We show that the focal curvatures satisfy a system of Frenet equations (not vectorial, but scalar!). We use the properties of the focal curvatures in order to give, for ℓ = 1, . . . ,m, necessary and sufficient conditions for the radius of the osculating ℓ-dimensional sphere to be critical. We also give necessary and sufficient conditions for a point of γ to be a vertex. Finally, we show explicitly the relations of the Frenet frame and the Euclidean curvatures of γ with the Frenet frame and the Euclidean curvatures of its focal curve Cγ.  相似文献
