Summary We show that there exist infinitely many positive integers m not of the form n-&ohgr;(n) for any positive integer n. Here, &ohgr;(n) stands for the number of distinct prime factors of n. A similar result holds with &ohgr;(n) replaced by the total number of prime factors of n (counting multiplicities), or by the number of divisors of n.  相似文献

Let G denote a semisimple group, a discrete subgroup, B=G/P the Poisson boundary. Regarding invariants of discrete subgroups we prove, in particular, the following:(1) For any -quasi-invariant measure on B, and any probablity measure on , the norm of the operator () on L 2(B,) is equal to (), where is the unitary representation in L 2(X,), and is the regular representation of .(2) In particular this estimate holds when is Lebesgue measure on B, a Patterson–Sullivan measure, or a -stationary measure, and implies explicit lower bounds for the displacement and Margulis number of (w.r.t. a finite generating set), the dimension of the conformal density, the -entropy of the measure, and Lyapunov exponents of .(3) In particular, when G=PSL2() and is free, the new lower bound of the displacement is somewhat smaller than the Culler–Shalen bound (which requires an additional assumption) and is greater than the standard ball-packing bound. We also prove that ()=G() for any amenable action of G and L 1(G), and conversely, give a spectral criterion for amenability of an action of G under certain natural dynamical conditions. In addition, we establish a uniform lower bound for the -entropy of any measure quasi-invariant under the action of a group with property T, and use this fact to construct an interesting class of actions of such groups, related to 'virtual' maximal parabolic subgroups. Most of the results hold in fact in greater generality, and apply for instance when G is any semi-simple algebraic group, or when is any word-hyperbolic group, acting on their Poisson boundary, for example.  相似文献

In the one-loop approximation of quantum electrodynamics, we study the Faraday rotation effect in the propagation of a weak linearly polarized wave through the field of a strong plane electromagnetic wave and also processes induced by a strong wave: the emission of a photon whose energy is an integer multiple of the strong-wave quantum and photon absorption with the emission of several photons identical (coherent) to the strong-wave quanta. The induced processes should occur in a vacuum in a superposition of external fields, namely, the field of a strong plane electromagnetic wave and a static spatially inhomogeneous electromagnetic field. We show that the induced photon emission in the field of a strong electromagnetic wave with circular polarization and in a static inhomogeneous field is equivalent to the merging of two strong-wave quanta with the production of one photon and that the induced photon absorption in the same combination of fields is equivalent to the decay (splitting) of a photon into two photons completely identical to the strong-wave quanta. All these effects are induced by the phenomenon of the vacuum polarization by a strong external time-dependent electromagnetic field. The probabilities of the induced processes are nontrivial nonlinear functions of the squared strength of the time-dependent field also depending on other parameters.  相似文献

Unbounded pairs of self-adjoint operatorsA andB satisfying the algebraic relationF 1(A)B=BF 2(A) are studied. For these relations, various definitions of integrable pairs of operators are presented and the class of tame relations is indicated; for the tame relations, the irreducible pairs are described and a structure theorem is presented.Translated from Ukrainskii Matematicheskii Zhurnal, Vol. 45, No. 9, pp. 1253–1258, September, 1993.  相似文献

Let (, A, ) be a measure space, a function seminorm on M, the space of measurable functions on , and M the space {f M : (f) < }. Every Borel measurable function : [0, ) [0, ) induces a function : M M by (f)(x) = (|f(x)|). We introduce the concepts of -factor and -invariant space. If is a -subadditive seminorm function, we give, under suitable conditions over , necessary and sufficient conditions in order that M be invariant and prove the existence of -factors for . We also give a characterization of the best -factor for a -subadditive function seminorm when is -finite. All these results generalize those about multiplicativity factors for function seminorms proved earlier.  相似文献

LetX, Y be finite sets and suppose thatF is a collection of pairs of sets (F, G),FX,GY satisfying |FF|s, |GG|t and |FF|+|GG|s+t+1 for all (F, G),F, GF. Extending a result of Sali, we determine the maximum ofF.  相似文献

Summary Consider the following quasilinear elliptic PDE, which is equivalent to a nonlinear variational inequality: –divF(u)+(u)f. Here is a singular maximal monotone graph and the nonlinear differential operator is only assumed to be monotone; surfaces of prescribed mean curvature over obstacles may thus be viewed as relevant examples. The numerical approximation proposed in this paper consists of combining continuous piecewise linear finite elements with a preliminary regularization of . The resulting scheme is shown to be quasi-optimally accurate inL . The underlying analysis makes use of both a topological technique and a sharpL p -duality argument. This work was partially supported by Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche of Italy while the author was in residence at the Istituto di Analisi Numerica del C.N.R. di Pavia  相似文献

We argue extensively in favor of our earlier choice of the in and out states (among the solutions of a wave equation with one-dimensional potential). In this connection, we study the nonstationary and stationary families of complete sets of solutions of the Klein–Gordon equation with a constant electric field. A nonstationary set Pv consists of the solutions with the quantum number p v=p 0 v–p3. It can be obtained from the nonstationary set P3 with the quantum number p 3 by a boost along the x 3 axis (in the direction of the electric field) with the velocity –v. By changing the gauge, we can bring the solutions in all sets to the same potential without changing quantum numbers. Then the transformations of solutions in one set (with the quantum number p v) to the solutions in another set (with the quantum number p v) have group properties. The stationary solutions and sets have the same properties as the nonstationary ones and are obtainable from stationary solutions with the quantum number p 0 by the same boost. It turns out that each set can be obtained from any other by gauge manipulations. All sets are therefore equivalent, and the classification (i.e., assigning the frequency sign and the in and out indices) in any set is determined by the classification in the set P3, where it is obvious.  相似文献

The study of a model system of differential equations arising from the dynamical problems of thermo elasticity is continued. The case of shifts of the general type is investigated. We employ the commutant method based on the properties of the operator (A,B)=AB-BA.Translated from Ukrainskii Matematicheskii Zhumal, Vol. 45, No. 8, pp. 1162–1165, August, 1993.  相似文献

LetV be an ergodic automorphism of a probability space and letA be a locally compact abelian group. Iff:XA is a measurable function, one defines a skew product automorphismV f of the product spaceX×A byV f (x,)=(Vx,+f(x)) for every point (x,) inX×A. In this paper we prove thatV f is ergodic for most functionsf.  相似文献

One considers singular parabolic equations of the form (u)/t–u0,where sign u is a multivalued function, equal to -I for u<0, to 1 for u>0, and to the segment [-I,I] for u=0. Such a class of equations contains, in particular, the model for the two-phase Stefan problem, the porous medium equation, and the plasma equation. For the bounded generalized solutions u(x,t) of the indicated equations (without the assumption u/L2one has established a qualified local estimate of the modulus of continuity.Translated from Zapiski Nauchnykh Seminarov Leningradskogo Otdeleniya Matematicheskogo Ins'tituta im. This paper deals with linear systems of difference equations whose coefficients admit generalized factorial series representations atz=. We are concerned with the behavior of solutions near the pointz= (the only fixed singularity for difference equations). It is important to know whether a system of linear difference equations has a regular singularity or an irregular singularity. To a given system () we can assign a number , called the Moser's invariant of (), so that the system is regular singular if and only if 1. We shall develop an algorithm, implementable in a computer algebra system, which reduces in a finite number of steps the system of difference equations to an irreducible form. The computation ot the number can be done explicitly from this irreducible form.  相似文献

The paper deals with the homogenization of a Neumann's problem in a thin periodic weakly connected domain of R 3. The domain n is composed of a large number n of disjoint periodic connected components linked by a periodic lattice n of very thin bridges. According to the distribution and to the size of the linking bridges, the limit problem as n tends to infinity is either a 4d Neumann's problem or a 4d nonlocal problem. The additional term corresponding to the increase of dimension is due to the connection effect of the bridges.  相似文献

Let X and Y be locally compact-compact topological spaces, F X×Y is closed, and P(F) is the set of all Borel probability measures on F. For us to find, for the pair of probability measures (x, y P (XP(Y), a probability measure P(F) such that X = X –1 , Y = Y –1 it is necessary and sufficient that, for any pair of Borel sets A X, B Y for which (A× B) F=Ø, the condition XA+ YB 1 holds.Translated from Matematicheskie Zametki, Vol. 14, No. 4, pp. 573–576, October, 1973.  相似文献

We shall develop a method to prove inequalities in a unified manner. The idea is as follows: It is quite often possible to find a continuous functional : n , such that the left- and the right-hand side of a given inequality can be written in the form (u)(v) for suitable points,v=v(u). If one now constructs a map n n , which is functional increasing (i.e. for each x n (which is not a fixed point of ) the inequality (x)<((x)) should hold) one specially gets the chain (u)( u))( 2(u))... n (u)). Under quite general conditions one finds that the sequence { n (u)} n converges tov=v(u). As a consequence one obtains the inequality (u)(v).  相似文献

Conditions on the closeness of real sequences {n} and {n} are studied which imply the equality of the excesses of the systems {exp(inx)} and {exp(inx)} in the space L2(–a, a). A theorem is formulated in terms of the difference of the sequences {n} and {n} enumerating the functions. In the corollaries of the theorem, conditions are given in terms of the behavior of the difference nn0. An example is constructed showing that the condition nn0 alone is not sufficient for equality of the excesses.Translated from Matematicheskie Zametki, Vol. 22, No. 6, pp. 803–814, December, 1977.  相似文献
