Injection of sub-millimeter bubbles is considered a promising technique for enhancing natural convection heat transfer for liquids. So far, we have experimentally investigated heat transfer characteristics of laminar natural convection flows with sub-millimeter bubbles. However, the effects of the bubble size on the heat transfer have not yet been understood. The purpose of this study is to clarify the effects of the bubble size on the heat transfer enhancement for the laminar natural convection of water along a vertical heated plate with uniform heat flux. Temperature and velocity measurements, in which thermocouples and a particle tracking velocimetry technique are, respectively used, are conducted to investigate heat transfer and flow characteristics for different bubble sizes. Moreover, two-dimensional numerical simulations are performed to comprehensively understand the effects of bubble injection on the flow near the heated plate. The result shows that the ratio of the heat transfer coefficient with sub-millimeter-bubble injection to that without injection ranges from 1.3 to 2.2. The result also shows that for a constant bubble flow rate, the heat transfer coefficient ratio increases with a decrease in the mean bubble diameter. It is expected from our estimation based on both experimental data and simulation results that this increase results from an increase in the advection effect due to bubbles.  相似文献

Sub-millimeter-bubble injection is one of the most promising techniques for enhancing heat transfer for the laminar natural convection of liquids. However, flow and heat transfer characteristics for laminar natural convection of water with sub-millimeter bubbles have not yet been fully understood. The purpose of this study is to experimentally clarify the effects of sub-millimeter-bubble injection on the laminar natural convection of water along a heated vertical plate. The use of thermocouples and a particle tracking velocimetry (PTV) technique are applied to temperature and velocity measurements, respectively. The temperature measurement shows that the ratio of the heat transfer coefficient with sub-millimeter-bubble injection to that without injection increases with an increase in the bubble flow rate or a decrease in the wall heat flux and that the ratio ranges from 1.35 to 1.85. Moreover, it is concluded from simultaneous measurement of temperature and velocity that the heat transfer enhancement is directly affected by flow modification due to bubbles rising near the heated vertical plate.  相似文献

利用格子Boltzmann方法模拟二维水平通道内水的流动沸腾过程,获得不同壁面过热度下流型特点和不同因素对换热过程的影响规律。结果表明,随着壁面过热度升高,流道内流型依次经历从泡状流、弹状流到反环流的转变,平均热流密度和平均换热系数先增大后减小。入口流速降低会使流道内出现受限气泡流,核态沸腾受到抑制。提高入口流速能够有效促进气泡脱离,壁面平均换热系数随入口流速增大而增大,但增长速率有所减小。减小通道宽度有利于汽化现象发生,核态沸腾得到强化,壁面平均换热系数有所提高。  相似文献

Experiments for air flowing over a flat plate heated up to 250°C with velocities of 10 to 30 m/s, which have been made at the DFVLR-AVA, are briefly reviewed and a new analysis of the data is given. The analysis is based on an analytical representation of the velocity and temperature profiles. Close to the wall, a law of the wall approximation is used, which includes the effect of density and viscosity variation. The whole velocity profile is constructed by adding Coles' law of the wake to the law of the wall. In a similar way, the temperature profile is obtained from the law of the wall and an auxiliary distribution. The integrals of momentum and heat flux for two-dimensional flow are used in conjunction with a similarity assumption, to derive a relation between rate of heat transfer from the plate and skin friction. A maximum likelihood procedure has been applied to determine skin friction and rate of heat transfer from the measured dynamic pressure profiles.—The analytical velocity and temperature profiles are found in good agreement with the experimental data, except for the stations near the leading edge of plate. The skin friction coefficients and the Stanton numbers decrease slightly in downstream direction as a consequence of growing local Reynolds number, and decrease with increasing ratio of plate to free stream temperature. The latter fact is in qualitative agreement with the behavior of turbulent boundary layers in supersonic flow. The ratio of Stanton number to half of skin friction coefficient (Reynolds analogy factor) varies with increasing local boundary layer Reynolds number from 1.23 to 1.16.  相似文献

The aim of the present study is to obtain surface flow visualisation, as well as local and spanwise averaged heat transfer measurements near a 180° sharp turn in a rectangular channel. The channel aspect ratio (width to height ratio) varies from 1 to 5 and the ratio between the width of the channel and that of the partition wall is always equal to 5. Heat transfer measurements are performed by means of the heated-thin-foil technique, which practically corresponds to a constant heat flux boundary condition, and by using infrared (IR) thermography. Two different heating conditions, in particular heating from one side (asymmetrical), or from two sides (symmetrical), are implemented. The convective heat transfer coefficient is evaluated from the measured temperature maps and the local bulk temperature of the flow which is obtained by making a one-dimensional balance along the channel. Results are presented in terms of local, or averaged, Nusselt number which is normalised with the classical Dittus and Boelter correlation. The fluid used during the test is air and the Reynolds number, based on the flow average velocity and channel hydraulic diameter, is varied between 16,000 and 60,000.  相似文献

The main purpose of this study is to survey numerically comparison of two- phase and single phase of heat transfer and flow field of copper-water nanofluid in a wavy channel. The computational fluid dynamics (CFD) prediction is used for heat transfer and flow prediction of the single phase and three different two-phase models (mixture, volume of fluid (VOF), and Eulerian). The heat transfer coefficient, temperature, and velocity distributions are investigated. The results show that the differences between the temperature fie].d in the single phase and two-phase models are greater than those in the hydrodynamic tleld. Also, it is found that the heat transfer coefficient predicted by the single phase model is enhanced by increasing the volume fraction of nanoparticles for all Reynolds numbers; while for the two-phase models, when the Reynolds number is low, increasing the volume fraction of nanoparticles will enhance the heat transfer coefficient in the front and the middle of the wavy channel, but gradually decrease along the wavy channel.  相似文献

An unsteady two-dimensional numerical simulation is performed to investigate the forced convection heat transfer for flow past a long heated equilateral triangular cylinder in an unconfined medium for the low Reynolds number laminar regime. The Reynolds number considered in this study ranges from 50 to 250 with three different values of Prandtl number (Pr?=?0.71, 7 and 100). Fictitious confining boundaries are chosen on the lateral sides of the computational domain that makes the blockage ratio β?=?5?% in order to make the problem computationally feasible. An unstructured triangular mesh is used for the computational domain discretization and the simulation is carried out with the commercial CFD solver Fluent. The flow and heat transfer characteristics are analyzed with the streamline and isotherm patterns at various Reynolds numbers. The dimensionless frequency of vortex shedding (Strouhal number), drag coefficient and Nusselt numbers are presented and discussed. The results obtained are in good agreement with the available results in the literature.  相似文献

用热线和冷线相结合的技术测量垂直圆管内逆混合对流流体的平均速度、 温度以及它们的脉动. 较详细地研究了浮力对逆混合对流的流动特性和传热特性的影响. 评 估了实验中采用的冷线测量温度补偿速度探头温度敏感的影响. 逆混合对流的传热结果用无 量纲参数Ω (Ω= Grd / Red2 )来表示,其中,基于管道直 径的雷诺数Red变化范围为900~18000, 浮力参数Ω变化范围为 0.004899~0.5047. 研究结果表明,浮力对逆混合对流的换热有强化作用. 随着葛拉晓夫数Grd的增加,温度脉动,流向雷诺正应力和流向温度通量增 大,并且在靠近壁面的流体区域尤其明显. 热线与冷线相结合的技术适合于研究非绝热的流 动测量,可以用于研究浮力对流动和换热特性的影响.  相似文献

A numerical study is performed to analyze steady laminar forced convection in a channel in which discrete heat sources covered with porous material are placed on the bottom wall. Hydrodynamic and heat transfer results are reported. The flow in the porous medium is modeled using the Darcy–Brinkman–Forchheimer model. A computer program based on control volume method with appropriate averaging for diffusion coefficient is developed to solve the coupling between solid, fluid, and porous region. The effects of parameters such as Reynolds number, Prandtl number, inertia coefficient, and thermal conductivity ratio are considered. The results reveal that the porous cover with high thermal conductivity enhances the heat transfer from the solid blocks significantly and decreases the maximum temperature on the heated solid blocks. The mean Nusselt number increases with increase of Reynolds number and Prandtl number, and decrease of inertia coefficient. The pressure drop along the channel increases rapidly with the increase of Reynolds number.  相似文献

Using thermocouples and a particle tracking velocimetry technique, temperature and velocity measurements are conducted to investigate flow and heat transfer characteristics of turbulent natural convection from a vertical heated plate in water with sub-millimeter-bubble injection. Hydrogen-bubbles generated by the electrolysis of water are used as the sub-millimeter-bubbles. In the turbulent region, the heat transfer deterioration occurs for a bubble flow rate Q = 33 mm3/s, while the heat transfer enhancement occurs for Q = 56 mm3/s. Temperature and velocity measurements suggest that the former is caused by a delay of the transition due to the bubble-induced upward flow. On the other hand, the latter is mainly due to two factors: one is the enhancement of the rotation of eddies in the outer layer, and the other is the increase in the gradient of the streamwise liquid velocity at the heated wall. These are caused by bubbles, which are located in the inner layer, rising at high speed.  相似文献

Local condensation heat transfer coefficients and interfacial shear stresses have been measured for countercurrent stratified flow of steam and subcooled water in rectangular channels over a wide range of inclination angles (4–87°) at two aspect ratios. Dimensionless correlations for the interfacial friction factor have been developed that show that it is a function of the liquid Reynolds number only. Empirical correlations of the heat transfer coefficient, based upon the bulk flow properties, have also been set up for the whole body of data encompassing the different inclination angles and aspect ratios. These indicate that the Froude number as a dimensionless gas velocity is a better correlating parameter than the gas Reynolds number. As an alternative approach, a simple dimensionless relationship for the beat transfer coefficient was obtained by analogy between heat and momentum transfer through the interface. Finally, a turbulence-centered model has been modified by using measured interfacial parameters for the turbulent velocity and length scales, resulting in good agreement with the data.  相似文献

The objective of this study is to visualize the flow pattern and to measure heat transfer coefficient during explosive boiling of water in parallel triangular micro-channels. Tests were performed in the range of inlet Reynolds number 25–60, mass flux 95–340 kg/m2s, and heat flux 80–330 kW/m2.The flow visualization showed that the behavior of long vapor bubbles, occurring in a micro-channel at low Reynolds numbers, was not similar to annular flow with interposed intermitted slugs of liquid between two long vapor trains. This process may be regarded as explosive boiling with periodic wetting and dryout.In the presence of two-phase liquid–vapor flow in the micro-channel, there are pressure drop oscillations, which increase with increasing vapor quality.This study shows strong dependence of the heat transfer coefficient on the vapor quality. The time when liquid wets the heated surface decreases with increasing heat flux. Dryout occurs immediately after venting of the elongated bubble.  相似文献

Direct contact heat transfer between water and a heat transfer oil was investigated under non-boiling conditions in co-current turbulent flow through a horizontal concentric annulus. The ratio of the inner pipe diameter to the outer pipe diameter (aspect ratio) κ = 0.730−0.816; total liquid velocity (mixture velocity) VT = 0.42−1.1 m/s; inlet oil temperature Toi = 38−94°C; oil volume fraction in the flowing mixture φo = 0.25−0.75 were varied and their effects on the overall volumetric heat transfer coefficient Uv were determined at constant interfacial tension of 48 dynes/cm.

It was found that, in each concentric pipe set, the overall volumetric heat transfer coefficient increased with increasing dispersed phase volume fraction at each constant mixture velocity and reached a maximum at around φo = φw ≈ 0.5. The maximum Uv values increased with increasing total liquid velocity and decreasing aspect ratio of the annulus. The volumetric heat transfer coefficient was also found to increase with increasing inlet oil temperature and increasing total liquid velocity but to decrease with length along the test section keeping all other parameters constant. Empirical expressions for the volumetric heat transfer coefficient were obtained within the ranges of the experimental parameters.  相似文献

The steady flow and heat transfer of a couple stress fluid due to an inclined stretching cylinder are analyzed. The thermal conductivity is assumed to be temperature dependent. The governing equations for the flow and heat transfer are transformed into ordinary differential equations. Series solutions of the resulting problem are computed. The effects of various interested parameters, e.g., the couple stress parameter, the angle of inclination, the mixed convection parameter, the Prandtl number, the Reynolds number, the radiation parameter, and the variable thermal conductivity parameter, are illustrated. The skin friction coefficient and the local Nusselt number are computed and analyzed. It is observed that the heat transfer rate at the surface increases while the velocity and the shear stress decrease when the couple stress parameter and the Reynolds number increase. The temperature increases when the Reynolds number increases.  相似文献

The objective of this paper is to make clear how heat transfer coefficient changes along the flow with the passing bubbles through a narrow vertical rectangular channel (20 mm wide, 2 mm deep and 450 mm long). The experiments were done using subcooled water of 80, 60, and 40 K at atmospheric pressure in which the air bubbles were injected into the channel at a designated period from 0.125 to 1.0 s and their length was controlled to be equal to 0.03, 0.02, and 0.01 m. The experiment shows that the heat transfer coefficients decrease along the flow and then reach a constant value beyond a certain distance from the leading edge of the heated surface where the flow becomes fully developed in both the velocity and the thermal conditions. Under the fully developed conditions, the heat transfer coefficients are predicted well by the existing theoretical analysis in which both the convective term and evaporation on the interface are ignored.  相似文献

This experimental study comparatively examined the two-phase flow structures, pressured drops and heat transfer performances for the cocurrent air–water slug flows in the vertical tubes with and without the spiky twisted tape insert. The two-phase flow structures in the plain and swirl tubes were imaged using the computerized high frame-rate videography with the Taylor bubble velocity measured. Superficial liquid Reynolds number (ReL) and air-to-water mass flow ratio (AW), which were respectively in the ranges of 4000–10000 and 0.003–0.02 were selected as the controlling parameters to specify the flow condition and derive the heat transfer correlations. Tube-wise averaged void fraction and Taylor bubble velocity were well correlated by the modified drift flux models for both plain and swirl tubes at the slug flow condition. A set of selected data obtained from the plain and swirl tubes was comparatively examined to highlight the impacts of the spiky twisted tape on the air–water interfacial structure and the pressure drop and heat transfer performances. Empirical heat transfer correlations that permitted the evaluation of individual and interdependent ReL and AW impacts on heat transfer in the developed flow regions of the plain and swirl tubes at the slug flow condition were derived.  相似文献

Using holographic interferometry and high-speed cinematography the heat transfer at the phase interface of vapor bubbles condensing in a subcooled liquid of the same substance was measured with ethanol, propanol, refrigerant R113 and water. To evaluate the axisymmetric temperature field around the bubble from the interference fringe field, the Abel integral method is not sufficient. A correction procedure considering the light deflection caused by the local temperature gradient has been developed and applied to calculate the heat transfer coefficient. The measurements were performed in the range 2 < Pr < 15 and I < Ja < 120. Measured data could be well-correlated as functions of the Prandtl and Reynolds numbers for the heat transfer coefficient and as functions of the Reynolds, Prandtl and Jacob numbers for the bubble collapse time.  相似文献

The dominant thermal resistance for most compact heat exchangers occurs on the gas side and as such an understanding of the gas side flowfield is needed before improving current designs. Louvered fins are commonly used in many compact heat exchangers to increase the surface area and initiate new boundary layer growth. For this study, detailed flowfield measurements were made in the entry region of several louvered fin geometries whereby the louver angle, ratio of fin pitch to louver pitch, and Reynolds number were all varied. In addition to mean velocity measurements, time-resolved velocity measurements were made to quantify unsteady effects.

The results indicated larger fin pitches resulted in lower average flow angles in the louver passages and longer development lengths. Larger louver angles with a constant ratio of fin pitch to louver pitch resulted in higher average flow angles and shorter development lengths. As the Reynolds number increased, longer development lengths were required and higher average flow angles occurred as compared with a lower Reynolds number case. Time-resolved velocity measurements indicated some flow periodicity behind the fully developed louver for a range of Reynolds numbers. The Strouhal number of these fluctuations was constant for a given louver geometry, but the value increased with increasing fin pitch.  相似文献

The velocity distribution in laminar upward flow of water (Pr 7.25) in the entry of a vertical internally heated annulus (radius ratio 4:1) has been determined by visual observation. Photographic measurements have been made of the motion of hydrogen bubble clusters, which were generated by a carefully controlled process of electrolysis, to assess the effects of free convection effects on the forced flow.For heat fluxes up to 2500 W/m2 and at a Reynolds number of approximately 450, local heat transfer coefficients have been obtained in a length of about 23 equivalent diameters. Heat transfer rate in the immediate entry was found to be insensitive to change in heat flux over the range of variables considered. As the distance downstream increased, the heat transfer rate was found to be dependent on the heat flux.  相似文献

Present study numerically and experimentally investigates the turbulent forced convective flow over a heated block mounted on one principal wall of an adiabatic channel. In the computation, thek-?, low-Reynolds-number, two-equation model was adopted for the turbulence closure. In the experiment, the flow measurement was performed by the laser Doppler velocimetry and the mass transfer measurement was carried out via the naphthalene sublimation technique. By virtue of the analogy between heat and mass transfer, the results could then be converted to predict the heat transfer coefficient. The effects of the Reynolds number and the aspect ratio of the block on heat transfer and fluid flow are thoroughly investigated. Distributions of the velocity and the turbulent kinetic energy are presented to gain an insight into the influence of the fluid flow on the heat transfer from the block. The Nusselt number hump is found on every face of the block, which is attributed to the separating bubble there. It is worth noting that the Nusselt number hump is located near the reattachment point of the separating bubble. In the absence of the separating bubble, the Nusselt number decreases or increases monotonously. Comparisons between numerical and experimental results of the local velocity and the heat transfer coefficient show reasonable agreement.  相似文献
