The liquid-liquid miscibility temperatures as a function of composition and deuterium substitution have been experimentally determined for the binary mixtures of 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluroborate with 1-butanol, isobutyl alcohol, 2-butanol, and tert-butyl alcohol and their deuterated forms (OH/OD substitution). All systems exhibit upper critical solution temperatures (UCSTs) with a visible effect of branching in alcohols. Deuteration of alcohols in the hydroxyl group results in a decrease of the UCST of the given system and the largest shift is observed for tert-butyl alcohol. These solvent isotope effects nicely correlate with the polarity expressed by dielectric constants or E(T)(30) parameters of alcohols. The effect of the isotope substitution on the miscibility of ILs with butanols can be rationalized by using the statistical-mechanical theory of the isotope effects coupled with a phenomenological g(E) model. Following this procedure one finds that the isotope shift of UCST is associated mainly with the zero-point energy contribution.  相似文献

We have determined the isotope effects of (17)O and (18)O substitution of (16)O in H(2)O on molecular diffusivities of water vapor in air by the use of evaporation experiments. The derived diffusion fractionation coefficients (17)alpha(diff) and (18)alpha(diff) are 1.0146 +/- 0.0002 and 1.0283 +/- 0.0003, respectively. We also determined, for the first time, the ratio ln((17)alpha(diff))/ln((18)alpha(diff)) as 0.5185 +/- 0.0002. This ratio, which is in excellent agreement with the theoretical value of 0.5184, is significantly smaller than the ratio in vapor-liquid equilibrium (0.529). We show how this new experimental information gives rise to (17)O excess in meteoric water, and how it can be applied in isotope hydrology.  相似文献

The uniquely well-resolved (99)Tc NMR spectrum of the pertechnetate ion in liquid water poses a stringent test of the accuracy of ab initio calculations. The displacement of the (99)Tc chemical shift as a function of temperature has been measured over the range 10-45 degrees C for the three isotopomers Tc((16)O)(4)(-), Tc((16)O)(3)((18)O)(-), and Tc((16)O)(3)((17)O)(-) at natural oxygen isotope abundance levels, and in addition the temperature dependence of the Tc-O scalar coupling was determined for the Tc((16)O)(3)((17)O)(-) isotopomer. Values for these parameters were computed using relativistic spin-orbit density functional theory with an unsolvated ion approximation and with treatments of the solvated ion based on the COnductor-like Screening MOdel (COSMO) approach. The temperature and isotope dependence of (99)Tc NMR parameters inferred by these methods were in good quantitative agreement with experimental observations. The change in the Tc-O bond length associated with the changes in temperatures considered here was determined to be of the order of 10(-)(4) A. Vibrational energies and Tc-O bond lengths derived from these models also compare favorably with previous experimental studies.  相似文献

The miscibility of four binary liquid mixtures containing acetonitrile (ACN, ACN-d3) and water (H2O, D2O) has been studied. All the measured systems present solubility curves characterized by slight asymmetry and the presence of an upper critical solution temperature (UCST). It is found that all systems have approximately the same critical composition and approximately the same shape of the phase diagrams. There is also no influence on the critical exponent. However, it has been found that isotope substitution diminishes solubility in each case independently of the site of deuterium substitution. This observation is accounted for in terms of the specific interactions of acetonitrile and water.  相似文献

A high-precision, and rapid on-line method for oxygen isotope analysis of silver phosphate is presented. The technique uses high-temperature elemental analyzer (EA)-pyrolysis interfaced in continuous flow (CF) mode to an isotopic ratio mass spectrometer (IRMS). Calibration curves were generated by synthesizing silver phosphate with a 13 per thousand spread in delta(18)O values. Calibration materials were obtained by reacting dissolved potassium dihydrogen phosphate (KH(2)PO(4)) with water samples of various oxygen isotope compositions at 373 K. Validity of the method was tested by comparing the on-line results with those obtained by classical off-line sample preparation and dual inlet isotope measurement. In addition, silver phosphate precipitates were prepared from a collection of biogenic apatites with known delta(18)O values ranging from 12.8 to 29.9 per thousand (V-SMOW). Reproducibility of +/- 0.2 per thousand was obtained by the EA-Py-CF-IRMS method for sample sizes in the range 400-500 microg. Both natural and synthetic samples are remarkably well correlated with conventional (18)O/(16)O determinations. Silver phosphate is a very stable material and easy to degas and, thus, could be considered as a good candidate to become a reference material for the determination of (18)O/(16)O ratios of phosphate by high-temperature pyrolysis.  相似文献

The formation of six ozone isotopomers and isotopologues, (16)O(16)O(16)O, (18)O(18)O(18)O, (16)O(16)O(18)O, (18)O(18)O(16)O, (16)O(18)O(16)O, and (18)O(16)O(18)O, has been studied in electron-irradiated solid oxygen (16)O(2) and (18)O(2) (1?∶?1) ices at 11 K. Significant isotope effects were found to exist which involved enrichment of (18)O-bearing ozone molecules. The heavy (18)O(18)O(18)O species is formed with a factor of about six higher than the corresponding (16)O(16)O(16)O isotopologue. Likewise, the heavy (18)O(18)O(16)O species is formed with abundances of a factor of three higher than the lighter (16)O(16)O(18)O counterpart. No isotope effect was observed in the production of (16)O(18)O(16)O versus(18)O(16)O(18)O. Such studies on the formation of distinct ozone isotopomers and isotopologues involving non-thermal, non-equilibrium chemistry by irradiation of oxygen ices with high energy electrons, as present in the magnetosphere of the giant planets Jupiter and Saturn, may suggest that similar mechanisms may contribute to the (18)O enrichment on the icy satellites of Jupiter and Saturn such as Ganymede, Rhea, and Dione. In such a Solar System environment, energetic particles from the magnetospheres of the giant planets may induce non-equilibrium reactions of suprathermal and/or electronically excited atoms under conditions, which are quite distinct from isotopic enrichments found in classical, thermal gas phase reactions.  相似文献

99Tc NMR has been suggested as an original method of evaluating the content of oxygen isotopes in oxygen‐18‐enriched water, a precursor for the production of radioisotope fluorine‐18 used in positron emission tomography. To this end, solutions of NH4TcO4 or NaTcO4 (up to 0.28 mol/L) with natural abundance of oxygen isotopes in virgin or recycled 18O‐enriched water have been studied by 99Tc NMR. The method is based on 16O/17O/18O intrinsic isotope effects in the 99Tc NMR chemical shifts, and the statistical distribution of oxygen isotopes in the coordination sphere of TcO4 and makes it possible to quantify the composition of enriched water by measuring the relative intensities of the 99Tc NMR signals of the Tc16O4−n18On isotopologues. Because the oxygen exchange between TcO4 and enriched water in neutral and alkaline solutions is characterized by slow kinetics, gaseous HCl was bubbled through a solution for a few seconds to achieve the equilibrium distribution of oxygen isotopes in the Tc coordination sphere without distortion of the oxygen composition of the water. Pertechnetate ion was selected as a probe due to its high stability in solutions and the significant 99Tc NMR shift induced by a single 16O→18O substitution (−0.43 ± 0.01 ppm) in TcO4 and spin coupling constant 1J(99Tc–17O) (131.46 Hz) favourable for the observation of individual signals of Tc16O4−n18On isotopologues.  相似文献

The recombination of oxygen atoms with oxygen molecules to form ozone exhibits several strange chemical characteristics, including unusually large differences in formation rate coefficients when different isotopes of oxygen participate. Purely statistical chemical reaction rate theories cannot describe these isotope effects, suggesting that reaction dynamics must play an important role. We investigated the dynamics of the 18O + 32O2 --> O3(*) --> 16O + 34O2 isotope exchange reaction (which proceeds on the same potential energy surface as ozone formation) using crossed atomic and molecular beams at a collision energy of 7.3 kcal mol(-1), providing the first direct experimental evidence that the dissociation of excited ozone exhibits significant nonstatistical behavior. These results are compared with quantum statistical and quasi-classical trajectory calculations in order to gain insight into the potential energy surface and the dynamics of ozone formation.  相似文献

The miscibilities of acetone and deuterated acetone with decane, tridecane, hexadecane, octadecane and eicosane over a broad concentration range have been determined. All the measured systems present phase diagrams with a visible asymmetry with respect to composition and are characterized by the upper critical solution temperature (UCST). It appears that deuterium substitution in acetone leads to the significant upward shift of UCST, increasing the domain of the limited miscibility. The phase diagrams were described by using a scaling equation with a critical exponent β close to the theoretically predicted one and practically independent of isotope substitution and hydrocarbon chain length.  相似文献

Contrasted here are the competitive 18O/16O kinetic isotope effects (18O KIEs) on kcat/Km(O2) for three non-heme iron enzymes that activate O2 at an iron center coordinated by a 2-His-1-carboxylate facial triad: taurine dioxygenase (TauD), (S)-(2)-hydroxypropylphosphonic acid epoxidase (HppE), and 1-aminocyclopropyl-1-carboxylic acid oxidase (ACCO). Measured 18O KIEs of 1.0102 +/- 0.0002 (TauD), 1.0120 +/- 0.0002 (HppE), and 1.0215 +/- 0.0005 (ACCO) suggest the formation in the rate-limiting step of O2 activation of an FeIII-peroxohemiketal, FeIII-OOH, and FeIV O species, respectively. The comparison of the measured 18O KIEs with calculated or experimental 18O equilibrium isotope effects (18O EIEs) provides new insights into the O2 activation through an inner-sphere mechanism at a non-heme iron center.  相似文献

The kinetics of the oxidation of trans-[RuIV(tmc)(O)(solv)]2+ to trans-[RuVI(tmc)(O)2]2+ (tmc is 1,4,8,11-tetramethyl-1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane, a tetradentate macrocyclic tertiary amine ligand; solv = H2O or CH3CN) by MnO4- have been studied in aqueous solutions and in acetonitrile. In aqueous solutions the rate law is -d[MnO4]/dt = kH2O[RuIV][MnO4-] = (kx + (ky)/(Ka)[H+])[RuIV][MnO4-], kx = (1.49 +/- 0.09) x 101 M-1 s-1 and ky = (5.72 +/- 0.29) x 104 M-1 s-1 at 298.0 K and I = 0.1 M. The terms kx and ky are proposed to be the rate constants for the oxidation of RuIV by MnO4- and HMnO4, respectively, and Ka is the acid dissociation constant of HMnO4. At [H+] = I = 0.1 M, DeltaH and DeltaS are (9.6 +/- 0.6) kcal mol-1 and -(18 +/- 2) cal mol-1 K-1, respectively. The reaction is much slower in D2O, and the deuterium isotope effects are kx/kxD = 3.5 +/- 0.1 and ky/kyD = 5.0 +/- 0.3. The reaction is also noticeably slower in H218O, and the oxygen isotope effect is kH216O/kH218O = 1.30 +/- 0.07. 18O-labeled studies indicate that the oxygen atom gained by RuIV comes from water and not from KMnO4. These results are consistent with a mechanism that involves initial rate-limiting hydrogen-atom abstraction by MnO4- from coordinated water on RuIV. In acetonitrile the rate law is -d[MnO4-]/dt = kCH3CN[RuIV][MnO4-], kCH3CN = 1.95 +/- 0.08 M-1 s-1 at 298.0 K and I = 0.1 M. DeltaH and DeltaS are (12.0 +/- 0.3) kcal mol-1 and -(17 +/- 1) cal mol-1 K-1, respectively. 18O-labeled studies show that in this case the oxygen atom gained by RuIV comes from MnO4-, consistent with an oxygen-atom transfer mechanism.  相似文献

The use of an (18)O/(16)O exchange experiment as a means for probing surface space-charge layers in oxides is examined theoretically and experimentally. On the basis of a theoretical treatment, isotope penetration profiles are calculated for (18)O/(16)O exchange across a gas-solid interface and subsequent diffusion of the labelled isotope through an equilibrium space-charge layer depleted of mobile oxygen vacancies and into a homogeneous bulk phase. Profiles calculated for a range of conditions all have a characteristic shape: a sharp drop in isotope fraction close to the surface followed by a normal bulk diffusion profile. Experimental (18)O profiles in an exchanged (001) oriented single crystal of Fe-doped SrTiO(3) were measured by time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (ToF-SIMS). By extracting the space-charge potential from such profiles, we demonstrate that this method allows the spatially resolved characterization of space-charge layers at the surfaces of crystalline oxides under thermodynamically well-defined conditions.  相似文献

Described here is the application of oxygen isotope fractionation together with computational methods, to elucidate a mechanism of enzymatic H2O2 activation. Horseradish peroxidase (HRP) has been the subject of intensive experimental and computational studies, yet questions remain as to the reversibility of the O-O cleavage step. New insight is afforded by the competitive oxygen kinetic isotope effect (18O KIE) upon H2O2 consumption determined under turnover conditions. The 18O KIE is compared to isotope effects calculated for the O-O heterolysis transition state and potential intermediates using density functional theory. In addition, experiments in enriched water provide evidence for HRP-catalyzed scrambling of the 18O label into the unreacted H2O2. The results provide an unprecedented view of H2O2 activation by a heme peroxidase and challenge the assumption of rate-limiting O-O heterolysis.  相似文献

Addition of 2 equiv of Ce(4+) to the dimeric ruthenium mu-oxo ion cis,cis-[(bpy)(2)Ru(OH(2))](2)O(4+) (formal oxidation state III-III, subsequently denoted [3,3]) or addition of 1 equiv of Ce(4+) to the corresponding [3,4] ion gave near-quantitative conversion to the [4,4] ion, confirming our recent assignment of this oxidation state as an accumulating intermediate during water oxidation by the cis,cis-[(bpy)(2)Ru(O)](2)O(4+) ([5,5]) ion. The rates of water exchange at the cis-aqua positions in the [3,3] and [3,4] ions were investigated by incubating H(2)(18)O-enriched samples in normal water for predetermined times, then oxidizing them to the [5,5] state and measuring by resonance Raman (RR) spectroscopy changes in the magnitudes of the O-isotope sensitive bands at 780 and 818 cm(-1). These bands have been assigned to Ru=(18)O and Ru=(16)O stretching modes, respectively, for ruthenyl bonds formed by deprotonation of the aqua ligands upon oxidation to the [5,5] state. An intermediate accumulated during the course of the isotope exchange reaction that gave a [5,5] ion possessing both approximately 782 and approximately 812 cm(-1) bands; this spectrum was assigned to the mixed-isotope species, (bpy)(2)Ru((16)O)(16)ORu((18)O)(bpy)(2)(4+). Kinetic analysis of solutions at various levels of oxidation indicated that only the [3,3] ion underwent substitution; the exchange rate constant obtained in 0.5 M trifluoromethanesulfonic acid, 23 degrees C, was 7 x 10(-3) s(-1), which is (10(3)-10(5))-fold larger than rate constants measured for anation of monomeric (bpy)(2)Ru(III)X(H(2)O)(3+) ions bearing simple sigma-donor ligands (X).  相似文献

A method to determine both (17)O/(16)O and (18)O/(16)O ratios for molecular oxygen with high precision by direct introduction into the mass spectrometer without gas separation is presented. Because both (17)O/(16)O and (18)O/(16)O in mixed gases have good linear correlations with their mixing ratios, these isotopic compositions can be determined without a gas-separation procedure by calibration using prepared standard gases with variable mixed ratios and by monitoring the amounts of fragment ions. Analytical precision for delta(17)O and delta(18)O of 45 and 7 per meg, respectively, were obtained. The observed partial pressure dependency of isotopic composition may be caused by isotope fractionation during admission from the ionization chamber into the flight tube of the mass spectrometer.  相似文献

The structural proteins that comprise approximately 90% of animal hair have the potential to record environmentally and physiologically determined variation in delta2H and delta18O values of body water. Broad, systematic, geospatial variation in stable hydrogen and oxygen isotopes of environmental water and the capacity for rapid, precise measurement via methods such as high-temperature conversion elemental analyzer/isotope ratio mass spectrometry (TC/EA-IRMS) make these isotope systems particularly well suited for applications requiring the geolocation of hair samples. In order for such applications to be successful, however, methods must exist for the accurate determination of hair delta2H and delta18O values reflecting the primary products of biosynthesis. Here, we present the results of experiments designed to examine two potential inaccuracies affecting delta2H and delta18O measurements of hair: the contribution of non-biologic hydrogen and oxygen to samples in the form of sorbed molecular water, and the exchange of hydroxyl-bound hydrogen between hair keratin and ambient water vapor. We show that rapid sorption of molecular water from the atmosphere can have a substantial effect on measured delta2H and delta18O values of hair (comprising approximately 7.7% of the measured isotopic signal for H and up to approximately 10.6% for O), but that this contribution can be effectively removed through vacuum-drying of samples for 6 days. Hydrogen exchange between hair keratin and ambient vapor is also rapid (reaching equilibrium within 3-4 days), with 9-16% of the total hydrogen available for exchange at room temperature. Based on the results of these experiments, we outline a recommended sample treatment procedure for routine measurement of delta2H and delta18O in mammal hair.  相似文献

The corresponding-states principle (CSP) has been considered for the development of the equations of state (EOS) of minor isotopologues that are usually unknown. We demonstrate that, for isotopologues of a given molecular fluid, a general extended multi-parameter corresponding-states EOS can be reduced to the three-parameter EOS, utilizing the critical parameters (temperature and density) and Pitzer's acentric factor as correlation parameters. Appropriate general CSP mathematical formalism and equations for constructing the EOS of minor isotopologues are described in detail. The formalism and equations were applied to isotopologues of water and demonstrated that the isotopic effect on the critical parameters and the acentric factor of H(2)(18)O can be successfully calculated from the EOS of H2O and experimental data on the isotope effects (liquid-vapor isotope fractionation factor and molar volume isotope effect). We have also shown that the experimental data on the vapor pressure isotope effect (VPIE) for 18O-substituted water are inconsistent within the framework of thermodynamics with the liquid-vapor oxygen isotope fractionation factor. The novel approach of CSP to isotopologues developed in this study creates a new opportunity for constructing the EOS of minor isotopologues for many other molecular fluids.  相似文献

Water-oxygen interactions and CO oxidation by water on the oxygen-precovered Au(111) surface were studied by using molecular beam scattering techniques, temperature-programmed desorption (TPD), and density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Water thermally desorbs from the clean Au(111) surface with a peak temperature of approximately 155 K; however, on a surface with preadsorbed atomic oxygen, a second water desorption peak appears at approximately 175 K. DFT calculations suggest that hydroxyl formation and recombination are responsible for this higher temperature desorption feature. TPD spectra support this interpretation by showing oxygen scrambling between water and adsorbed oxygen adatoms upon heating the surface. In further support of these experimental findings, DFT calculations indicate rapid diffusion of surface hydroxyl groups at temperatures as low as 75 K. Regarding the oxidation of carbon monoxide, if a C (16)O beam impinges on a Au(111) surface covered with both atomic oxygen ( (16)O) and isotopically labeled water (H 2 (18)O), both C (16)O (16)O and C (16)O (18)O are produced, even at surface temperatures as low as 77 K. Similar experiments performed by impinging a C (16)O beam on a Au(111) surface covered with isotopic oxygen ( (18)O) and deuterated water (D 2 (16)O) also produce both C (16)O (16)O and C (16)O (18)O but less than that produced by using (16)O and H 2 (18)O. These results unambiguously show the direct involvement and promoting role of water in CO oxidation on oxygen-covered Au(111) at low temperatures. On the basis of our experimental results and DFT calculations, we propose that water dissociates to form hydroxyls (OH and OD), and these hydroxyls react with CO to produce CO 2. Differences in water-oxygen interactions and oxygen scrambling were observed between (18)O/H 2 (16)O and (18)O/D 2 (16)O, the latter producing less scrambling. Similar differences were also observed in water reactivity toward CO oxidation, in which less CO 2 was produced with (16)O/D 2 (16)O than with (16)O/H 2 (16)O. These differences are likely due to primary kinetic isotope effects due to the differences in O-H and O-D bond energies.  相似文献
