A new organic compound of bis-glycine maleate was synthesized in the alkaline medium of 10% ammonium hydroxide solution. The bulk single crystals of Bis-Glycine Maleate (BGM) have been grown by slow cooling method. The grown crystals were characterized by employing single crystal and powder X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared, optical absorption spectral studies and thermo gravimetric analysis. The microhardness studies confirmed that the BGM has a fairly high Vicker’s hardness number value (41 kg mm−2) in comparison to other organic NLO crystals. Second harmonic generation efficiency of the crystal measured by Kurtz–Perry powder method using Nd:YAG laser is found to be comparable to that of potassium dihydrogen phosphate (KDP). Frequency dependent dielectric studies were carried out along the major growth axis.  相似文献

Ferroic crystals of tetramethyl ammonium tetrachlorozincate (TMA-ZnCl) were grown by slow evaporation technique and the morphology of the grown crystals varies with different pH values. The compound crystallizes in orthorhombic primitive system at room temperature with non-centro symmetric space group Pmna. The grown crystals were subjected to powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, ultraviolet–visible–near-infrared (UV–vis–NIR) spectral studies and thermal studies. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) measurement confirms the existence of structural phase transition and the thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) studies reveals that the crystal is thermally stable up to 330 °C. Vicker's microhardness studies expose that the material is mechanically stable up to a load of 60 g. The laser second harmonic generation (SHG) efficiency of the grown crystal was found to be 1.3 times that of potassium dihydrogen orthophosphate (KDP) crystal.  相似文献

The solubility, metastable zone width and nucleation parameters of organic nonlinear optical material L-tartaric acid–nicotinamide (LTN) have been determined. The crystals of LTN are grown by the slow cooling method. The grown crystals are morphologically interpreted. The crystalline powder of the grown crystals has been examined by X-ray diffraction and thermogravimetric analysis. The different modes of vibrations present in the crystal are identified by the Fourier infrared spectroscopy analysis. The powder SHG efficiency of LTN is comparable with that of KDP.  相似文献

Single crystals of dl-malic acid-doped ammonium dihydrogen phosphate have been grown using slow evaporation method and also by Sankaranarayanan–Ramasamy (SR) method with the vision to improve the properties of the ADP crystals. The characterization of grown crystals was made by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, powder X-ray diffraction, UV–vis. spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), differential thermal analysis (DTA), Vicker's microhardness, dielectric measurements, high-resolution X-ray diffraction (HRXRD) and second-harmonic studies. Structural difference between pure and doped crystal has been studied by XRD analysis. Functional groups were identified by FTIR spectroscopy. The grown crystals were found to be transparent in the entire visible region. Decomposition temperatures of the grown crystals were measured by DTA. Vicker's hardness study carried out on (0 0 1) face at room temperature shows increased hardness of the doped crystals and SR-method-grown crystals. Dielectric measurements reveal that SR-method-grown DLM-doped ADP crystals have low dielectric loss. Crystalline perfection of the grown crystals is analyzed using HRXRD. Preliminary measurements indicate that the second harmonic generation efficiency of the doped crystals at a fundamental wavelength of 1064 nm is roughly 1.5 times greater than that of pure ADP.  相似文献

Pure and potassium doped cadmium mercury thiocyanate single crystals have been obtained from silica gel by the process of diffusion. The X‐ray diffraction studies reveal the crystal lattice of both pure and doped crystals to be tetragonal. The crystalline perfection of the grown crystals were investigated by high resolution X‐ray diffraction analysis and the quality of the crystals are found to be extremely good. Transmission and Fourier transform infrared spectra were recorded for the grown crystals. The TG/DTA analyses show that the crystals are highly thermally stable. The mechanical strength of the crystals were studied by Vickers microhardness test and a study of their second harmonic generation efficiency in comparison with urea has been made by performing Kurtz powder test. Glycine phosphite (NH3CH2COO.H3PO3), a potential ferroelectric material, was grown as single crystals from aqueous solutions by slow evaporation and slow cooling methods. Laboratory synthesized title compound was purified by recrystallization method and confirmed by Fourier transform infrared and Laser Raman studies. Temperature dependent solubility in double distilled water in the range between 288 and 328 K was determined by gravimetric method. Morphological importance of various growth faces were studied by optical goniometry. Powder x‐ray diffraction study performed on the grown crystals confirms the crystal system and lattice parameters of the unit cell. Optical transparency of the grown crystals in the ultraviolet–visible ‐near infrared region was studied by spectroscopic method. BaFCl crystals have been grown using BaF2 and BaCl2 by flux technique. Glow curves, optical absorption, and TL emission spectra of x/r — irradiated crystals are studied. The results have been compared with those BaFCl crystals grown from NaF flux so as to study the effects of flux on these properties. It is found that crystals grown from BaF2 flux are relatively purer. An additional TL glow peak at 460 K, an optical absorption band at 775 nm and TL emission band at 485 nm have been obtained in the presently grown crystals. The additional glow peak, optical absorption band have been attributed to F(¯F) aggregate centers, whereas the 485 nm TL emission band to impurity centers.  相似文献

A new semiorganic crystal, L‐glutamic acid hydrobromide, C5H10NO4Br (GHB) has been grown from aqueous solution. The single crystal X‐ray analysis of the crystal showed that it belongs to the non‐centrosymmetric P212121 space group with protonated glutamic acid as cation and bromine as anion. The back‐bone conformations of the amino acid are in cis and trans form. The side‐chain conformations are observed to be in gauche I / trans / cis / trans forms. The characteristic ‘head‐to‐tail’ hydrogen bonding interaction is observed through a chain C(5) motif. Further, the crystal structure is stabilized by an intricate three‐dimensional hydrogen bonding network. TGA/DTA showed that the grown crystals are thermally stable upto 219 °C without any phase transition. The functional groups responsible for the various modes of vibrations were identified by using FTIR spectroscopy. UV‐Vis‐NIR spectra showed that the crystals have excellent transparency in the visible and infrared regions. Crystals of phosphopantetheine adenylyltransferase from Mycobacterium tuberculosis, thymidine phosphorylase from Escherichia coli, carboxypeptidase T from Thermoactinomyces vulgaris and its mutant forms, and crystals of complexes of these proteins with functional ligands and inhibitors were grown by the capillary counter-diffusion method in the Japanese Experimental Module Kibo on the International Space Station. The high-resolution X-ray diffraction data sets suitable for the determination of high-resolution three-dimensional structures of these proteins were collected from the grown crystals on the SPring-8 synchrotron radiation facility. The conditions of crystal growth for the proteins and the data-collection statistics are reported. The crystals grown in microgravity diffracted to a higher resolution than crystals of the same proteins grown on Earth.  相似文献

The single crystals of Lead Iodide have been grown by gel method. X‐ray diffraction studies on these crystals shows that the lattice parameters of grown crystals are almost matching with reported values. The results of detailed studies made on the microstructures of Lead Iodide crystals, have been described. The observations of the faces of these crystals revealed that they have grown by layer as well as spiral mechanisms. The probable role of these parameters is explained along with the surface microstructures on these various shaped crystals.  相似文献

The crystal growth, the ferroelectric hysteresis loops, and the infrared reflectivity spectra of coppermodified strontium barium niobate (SBN) single crystals are reported. Compared with the undoped SBN crystals, the copper-modified crystals have stable hysteresis loops, the spontaneous polarization of which is about 0.30 C/m2, but that of the undoped SBN crystals is only about 0.12 C/m2. Their coercive field strength is all about 340 V/mm. The experimental results of the infrared spectra show that the infrared reflectivities vary as the orientations of the dipole moments owing to the copper-doping. The c-axis becomes the most stable orientation of the dipole moments, and the polarization will be locked and won't recede if the copper-modified crystals are polarized into monodomains.  相似文献

Crystals grown from a solution of dimethylammonium and copper chlorides are studied using electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and X-ray diffraction. The dielectric properties of the crystals grown are measured. It is established that the crystals have the composition [(CH3)2NH2]2CuCl4[(CH3)2NH2]Cl and, in phase I at room temperature, are described by the orthorhombic space group Pna21 with the unit cell parameters a = 11.338 Å, b = 9.981 Å, and c = 15.675 Å. The effect of ammonium malate on the growth rate, structural, optical, thermal, mechanical, dielectric properties, crystalline perfection and second harmonic generation (SHG) efficiency of ammonium dihydrogen phosphate single crystals grown by the slow cooling method has been investigated. The lattice parameters of the grown crystals were obtained by the single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Fourier transform infrared studies confirm the functional groups of the crystals. UV–vis study shows that the transparency is increased much by the dopant. Thermal analysis was performed to study the thermal stability of the grown crystals. Vickers hardness measurements reveal the higher hardness of the doped crystals. Low dielectric losses were observed from the dielectric measurements for the doped ADP crystals. The high-resolution X-ray diffraction studies show that the crystalline perfection of the crystals is good. The relative SHG efficiency measurements revealed that the dopant has enhanced the efficiency.  相似文献

Single crystal growth of the organic nonlinear optical crystal, L‐arginine trifluoroacetate (L‐Arg·CF3COOH, abbreviated as LATF) is reported. Low temperature solution growth method is employed for the growth of bulk single crystals. The cell parameters are verified by single crystal diffraction. Fourier transform infrared (FT‐IR) and Fourier transform Raman analysis are used to confirm the presence of various functional groups in the grown crystal. The thermal properties of the grown crystals are studied by thermogravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorinetry analysis (TGA/DSC). Zinc Potassium Phosphate Hexahydrate (ZPPH) is analogous to naturally occurring struvite. ZPPH crystals are grown by slow evaporation technique. These crystals are characterised by x‐ray and infrared studies. Powder x‐ray pattern indicates the orthorhombic crystal structure analogous to struvite with unit cell parameters a = 5.964, b = 5.808 and c = 12.495 Å. Infrared spectrum is characteristic of H2O and PO43‐ radicals.  相似文献

The influence of modulated crucible rotation on the axial distribution of Cu, Mg and Si impurities in proustite single crystals grown by the Stockbarger method using ACRT is studied in a wide range of Taylor numbers (1.9·105 < Ta < 7.12·107). The impurity content in the upper part and in the tail portion of the grown crystals is measured using X‐ray‐phase analysis. Micro and macrostriations are observed in the grown crystals. The wavelengths of impurity content fluctuations have been determined. The microfluctuations of axial impurity content are caused by modulated crucible rotation. The studies have revealed that the ACRT provides an effective removal of impurities from the main part of the grown crystal at high intensity of melt stirring, and consequently, the ACRT can be applied validly to decrease the impurity content during the growing of high‐quality proustite single crystals. Experimental results concerning electrooptic characteristics of these single crystals used in construction of a Q-switch and a four-crystals modulator are presented. The organic nonlinear optical crystals of benzilic acid were grown by the slow evaporation method using ethanol as a solvent. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction (XRD), powder XRD studies and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectral analysis were carried out to confirm the benzilic acid crystal. The optical transparency was studied by ultra violet (UV)–visible spectral analysis. Thermal properties of the grown crystals were studied by thermogravimetric and differential thermal analyses. The melting point of the grown crystal was confirmed by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) analysis. The semiconductor CdxHg1–xTe serves as a starting material for the production of infrared detectors with a high detectivity and a small time constant. CdxHg1–xTe single crystals are necessary to manufacture detectors efficiently. The single crystals should not contain segregations and have to include a homogeneous molar concentration x. An electron microprobe X-ray analyzer meets all requirements expected from the measuring method for checking the homogeneity of CdxHg1–xTe crystals. — Results of qualitative and quantitative studies in the microscopical and macroscopical range are presented. Typical defects of the crystals were detected by using the qualitative electron microprobe X-ray analysis. The quantitative analysis was carried out with standard samples. The method for determination of the molar concentration x of the standard samples is described.  相似文献

We have grown single crystals of recently discovered thermoelectric oxide material NaxCoO2 using NaCl flux. Crystals of sizes upto 1.5 x 1.5 x 1.5 mm3 having different morphological habits were reproducibly grown. The atomic force microscopic studies show that along c‐axis crystals grow via 2D layer‐by‐layer mechanism. The X‐ray diffraction analyses show that grown crystals are rich in Na content as compared to the starting charge indicating that NaCl flux also acts as a source of Na.
