Given a piecewise continuous function and a projection P1 onto a subspace X1 of CN, we investigate the injectivity, surjectivity and, more generally, the Fredholm properties of the ordinary differential operator with boundary condition . This operator acts from the “natural” space into L2×X1. A main novelty is that it is not assumed that A is bounded or that has any dichotomy, except to discuss the impact of the results on this special case. We show that all the functional properties of interest, including the characterization of the Fredholm index, can be related to the existence of a selfadjoint solution H of the Riccati differential inequality . Special attention is given to the simple case when H=A+A satisfies this inequality. When H is known, all the other hypotheses and criteria are easily verifiable in most concrete problems.  相似文献

We generalize the main theorem of Rieffel for Morita equivalence of W-algebras to the case of unital dual operator algebras: two unital dual operator algebras A,B have completely isometric normal representations α,β such that α(A)=[Mβ(B)M]w and β(B)=[Mα(A)M]w for a ternary ring of operators M (i.e. a linear space M such that MMMM) if and only if there exists an equivalence functor which “extends” to a ∗-functor implementing an equivalence between the categories and . By we denote the category of normal representations of A and by the category with the same objects as and Δ(A)-module maps as morphisms (Δ(A)=AA). We prove that this functor is equivalent to a functor “generated” by a B,A bimodule, and that it is normal and completely isometric.  相似文献

A Hilbert space operator AB(H) is p-hyponormal, A∈(p-H), if |A|2p?|A|2p; an invertible operator AB(H) is log-hyponormal, A∈(?-H), if log(TT)?log(TT). Let dAB=δAB or ?AB, where δABB(B(H)) is the generalised derivation δAB(X)=AX-XB and ?ABB(B(H)) is the elementary operator ?AB(X)=AXB-X. It is proved that if A,B∈(?-H)∪(p-H), then, for all complex λ, , the ascent of (dAB-λ)?1, and dAB satisfies the range-kernel orthogonality inequality ‖X‖?‖X-(dAB-λ)Y‖ for all X∈(dAB-λ)-1(0) and YB(H). Furthermore, isolated points of σ(dAB) are simple poles of the resolvent of dAB. A version of the elementary operator E(X)=A1XA2-B1XB2 and perturbations of dAB by quasi-nilpotent operators are considered, and Weyl’s theorem is proved for dAB.  相似文献

We prove that a Banach space X has the metric approximation property if and only if , the space of all finite rank operators, is an ideal in , the space of all bounded operators, for every Banach space Y. Moreover, X has the shrinking metric approximation property if and only if is an ideal in for every Banach space Y.Similar results are obtained for u-ideals and the corresponding unconditional metric approximation properties.  相似文献

Let F denote a field and let V denote a vector space over F with finite positive dimension. We consider a pair of linear transformations A:VV and A:VV that satisfy the following conditions: (i) each of A,A is diagonalizable; (ii) there exists an ordering of the eigenspaces of A such that AViVi-1+Vi+Vi+1 for 0?i?d, where V-1=0 and Vd+1=0; (iii) there exists an ordering of the eigenspaces of A such that for 0?i?δ, where and ; (iv) there is no subspace W of V such that AWW, AWW, W≠0, WV. We call such a pair a tridiagonal pair on V. It is known that d=δ and for 0?i?d the dimensions of coincide. The pair A,A is called sharp whenever . It is known that if F is algebraically closed then A,A is sharp. In this paper we classify up to isomorphism the sharp tridiagonal pairs. As a corollary, we classify up to isomorphism the tridiagonal pairs over an algebraically closed field. We obtain these classifications by proving the μ-conjecture.  相似文献

Singular values, norms, and commutators   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Let and Xi, i=1,…,n, be bounded linear operators on a separable Hilbert space such that Xi is compact for i=1,…,n. It is shown that the singular values of are dominated by those of , where ‖·‖ is the usual operator norm. Among other applications of this inequality, we prove that if A and B are self-adjoint operators such that a1?A?a2 and b1?B?b2 for some real numbers and b2, and if X is compact, then the singular values of the generalized commutator AX-XB are dominated by those of max(b2-a1,a2-b1)(XX). This inequality proves a recent conjecture concerning the singular values of commutators. Several inequalities for norms of commutators are also given.  相似文献

If X is a real Banach space, we denote by WX the class of all functionals possessing the following property: if {un} is a sequence in X converging weakly to uX and lim infnΦ(un)≤Φ(u), then {un} has a subsequence converging strongly to u.In this paper, we prove the following result:Let X be a separable and reflexive real Banach space; an interval; a sequentially weakly lower semicontinuous C1 functional, belonging to WX, bounded on each bounded subset of X and whose derivative admits a continuous inverse on X; a C1 functional with compact derivative. Assume that, for each λI, the functional ΦλJ is coercive and has a strict local, not global minimum, say .Then, for each compact interval [a,b]⊆I for which , there exists r>0 with the following property: for every λ∈[a,b] and every C1 functional with compact derivative, there exists δ>0 such that, for each μ∈[0,δ], the equation

Let K denote a field, and let V denote a vector space over K with finite positive dimension. By a Leonard pair on V we mean an ordered pair of linear transformations A : V → V and A : V → V that satisfy the following two conditions:
(i)
There exists a basis for V with respect to which the matrix representing A is irreducible tridiagonal and the matrix representing A is diagonal.
(ii)
There exists a basis for V with respect to which the matrix representing A is irreducible tridiagonal and the matrix representing A is diagonal.
Let (respectively v0v1, … , vd) denote a basis for V that satisfies (i) (respectively (ii)). For 0 ? i ? d, let ai denote the coefficient of , when we write as a linear combination of , and let denote the coefficient of vi, when we write Avi as a linear combination of v0v1, … , vd.In this paper we show a0 = ad if and only if . Moreover we show that for d ? 1 the following are equivalent; (i) a0 = ad and a1 = ad−1; (ii) and ; (iii) ai = adi and for 0 ? i ? d. These give a proof of a conjecture by the second author. We say A, A is balanced whenever ai = adi and for 0 ? i ? d. We say A,A is essentially bipartite (respectively essentially dual bipartite) whenever ai (respectively ) is independent of i for 0 ? i ? d. Observe that if A, A is essentially bipartite or dual bipartite, then A, A is balanced. For d ≠ 2, we show that if A, A is balanced then A, A is essentially bipartite or dual bipartite.  相似文献

In this paper, we reconsider the iterative method Xk=Xk−1+βY(IAXk−1), k=1,2,…,βC?{0} for computing the generalized inverse over Banach spaces or the generalized Drazin inverse ad of a Banach algebra element a, reveal the intrinsic relationship between the convergence of such iterations and the existence of or ad, and present the error bounds of the iterative methods for approximating or ad. Moreover, we deduce some necessary and sufficient conditions for iterative convergence to or ad.  相似文献

We consider the periodic Zakharov-Shabat operators on the real line. The spectrum of this operator consists of intervals separated by gaps with the lengths |gn|?0, nZ. Let be the corresponding effective masses and let hn be heights of the corresponding slits in the quasi-momentum domain. We obtain a priori estimates of sequences g=(|gn|)nZ, , h=(hn)nZ in terms of weighted ?p-norms at p?1. The proof is based on the analysis of the quasi-momentum as the conformal mapping.  相似文献

In this note, we show that, if the Druzkowski mappings F(X)=X+(AX)∗3, i.e. F(X)=(x1+(a11x1+?+a1nxn)3,…,xn+(an1x1+?+annxn)3), satisfies TrJ((AX)∗3)=0, then where δ is the number of diagonal elements of A which are equal to zero. Furthermore, we show the Jacobian Conjecture is true for the Druzkowski mappings in dimension ?9 in the case .  相似文献

The classical singular value decomposition for a matrix ACm×n is a canonical form for A that also displays the eigenvalues of the Hermitian matrices AA and AA. In this paper, we develop a corresponding decomposition for A that provides the Jordan canonical forms for the complex symmetric matrices and . More generally, we consider the matrix triple , where are invertible and either complex symmetric or complex skew-symmetric, and we provide a canonical form under transformations of the form , where X,Y are nonsingular.  相似文献

Let F denote a field and let V denote a vector space over F with finite positive dimension. We consider an ordered pair of F-linear transformations A:VV and A:VV that satisfy the following conditions: (i) each of A,A is diagonalizable on V; (ii) there exists an ordering of the eigenspaces of A such that AViV0+V1+?+Vi+1 for 0?i?d, where V-1:=0 and Vd+1:=0; (iii) there exists an ordering of the eigenspaces of A such that for 0?i?δ, where and . We call such a pair a Hessenberg pair on V. It is known that if the Hessenberg pair A,A on V is irreducible then d=δ and for 0?i?d the dimensions of Vi and coincide. We say a Hessenberg pair A,A on V is sharp whenever it is irreducible and .In this paper, we give the definitions of a Hessenberg system and a sharp Hessenberg system. We discuss the connection between a Hessenberg pair and a Hessenberg system. We also define a finite sequence of scalars called the parameter array for a sharp Hessenberg system, which consists of the eigenvalue sequence, the dual eigenvalue sequence and the split sequence. We calculate the split sequence of a sharp Hessenberg system. We show that a sharp Hessenberg pair is a tridiagonal pair if and only if there exists a nonzero nondegenerate bilinear form on V that satisfies 〈Au,v〉=〈u,Av〉 and 〈Au,v〉=〈u,Av〉 for all u,vV.  相似文献

The basic results of spectral theory are obtained using the sequence of powers of a bounded linear operator T,T2,…,Tn,…. In this paper, we replace the powers Tn by certain polynomials pn(T), and make use of special properties of the polynomial sequence to derive some new results concerning operators. For example, using an arbitrary polynomial sequence , we obtain “binomial” spectral radii and semidistances, which reduce, in the case of the sequence of powers, to the usual spectral radius and semidistance.  相似文献
