We report on the unusual nature of the nu=0 state in the integer quantum Hall effect (QHE) in graphene and show that electron transport in this regime is dominated by counterpropagating edge states. Such states, intrinsic to massless Dirac quasiparticles, manifest themselves in a large longitudinal resistivity rho(xx) > or approximately h/e(2), in striking contrast to rho(xx) behavior in the standard QHE. The nu=0 state in graphene is also predicted to exhibit pronounced fluctuations in rho(xy) and rho(xx) and a smeared zero Hall plateau in sigma(xy), in agreement with experiment. The existence of gapless edge states puts stringent constraints on possible theoretical models of the nu=0 state.  相似文献

The planar Hall effect in a ferromagnetic conductor is considered within a simple two-liquid hydro-dynamic model. It is shown that, even in the simple case of an isotropic Fermi surface in the absence of thermal spread, the magnitude of the Hall effect is comparable to that in semiconductors because of the presence of two groups of conduction electrons with their spins parallel and perpendicular to the quantization axis, respectively. In addition to the planar Hall field, a spin flux parallel to this field arises, with the consequence that the extent of spin polarization of the conduction electrons varies along the Hall field direction (planar spin Hall effect).  相似文献

The Valenta model of a thin ferromagnetic film in the critical region above the Curie point has been considered. Spatial and temperature dependence for spin correlation time and magnetic susceptibility has been obtained and discussed. The results have been generalized and expressions describing the behaviour of any physical quantity in more complicated models of a thin ferromagnetic film near the Curie temperature have been given.  相似文献

The influence of temperature on the magnetic properties and magnetoimpedance of Co64Fe3Cr3Si15B15 and Co67FCr3Si15B12 amorphous ribbons having different Curie points are studied. The impedance and its component are found to change greatly when the ribbons pass into the paramagnetic state. This finding can be used to determine the Curie point of ferromagnets and design high-sensitivity thermal transducers.  相似文献

The Hall resistivity (ρxy) and the longitudinal resistivity (ρxx) in c-axis-oriented superconducting MgB2 thin films have been investigated in extended fields up to 18 T. We have observed a scaling behavior between the Hall resistivity and the longitudinal resistivity, , where the exponent (β) is observed to be independent of the temperatures and the magnetic fields. For a wide magnetic field region from 1 to 18 T and a wide temperature region from 10 to 28 K, a universal power law with β = 2.0 ± 0.1 was observed in c-axis-oriented MgB2 thin films. These results can be well interpreted by using recent models.  相似文献

We have studied the transverse μSR signal in Gd metal in the temperature region 1–2 TC, and it is demonstrated that measurements in the paramagnetic range can be used to obtain the hyperfine field at the muon site, as well as to give information on the fluctuations of the Gd spins. The critical exponent for slowing down of Gd spin fluctuations is 0.56(5) above 1.05 TC but decreases to 0.15(5) below 1.05 TC. Comparisons with results from PAC and Mössbauer measurements are discussed.  相似文献

Gadolinium iron garnet Gd3Fe5O12 has been studied near the compensation point T cm by Mössbauer spectroscopy. It has been shown that the remanent magnetizations of the ferrite sublattices abruptly increase near T cm. The phenomenon has been explained by the increase in the domain sizes in the ferrite with approaching T cm. The Mössbauer spectroscopy can be used to investigate the magnetization and magnetization reversal processes in individual sublattices of a ferrimagnet.  相似文献

Measurements of the ac susceptibility and temperature modulation studies of the ac and dc magnetic properties of polycrystalline gadolinium in the vicinity of the Curie point Tc are reported. Field-independent exchange-enhanced paramagnetism was observed above Tc. Below Tc the initial field-independent susceptibility was observed for applied fields < 8 A/m rms and exhibited a frequency dependence characteristic of a magnetic after-effect. Within about 3 K of Tc this susceptibility is strongly influenced by domain nucleation and a temperature dependent magnetic relaxation time was observed.  相似文献

The temperature dependence of the parameters of the hyperfine interaction in the surface layers and in the bulk of macroscopic crystals of hexagonal ferrites of the type Sr-M (SrFe12O19) is investigated by the method of simultaneous gamma-, x-ray, and electron Mössbauer spectroscopy. It is shown experimentally that the transition of an ≈ 200 nm thick surface layer of macroscopic ferromagnets to the paramagnetic state occurs at a temperature 3° below the Curie point (T c) for the bulk of the crystal. It was established that the transition temperatureT c(L) of a thin layer localized at a depthL from the surface of the crystal increases away from the surface and reaches the valueT c at the lower (away from the surface) boundary of the so-called “critical” surface layer. A nonuniform state in which the bulk region of the crystal is magnetically ordered while the surface region is disordered is observed nearT N.  相似文献

The temperature dependences of the intensity of the main acoustic resonance peak for two samples of gadolinium molybdate Gd2(MoO4)3 are measured in the temperature range 22–165°C, involving the Curie temperature. It is revealed that low-frequency fluctuations of the amplitude of the resonance current through the samples are observed at temperatures in the vicinity of the Curie point. The amplitudes of the corresponding variations in the voltage at the input of the recording device reach 100 mV. The characteristic times of fluctuations are several tens of seconds.  相似文献

We study the low temperature behavior of an amorphous superconducting film driven normal by a perpendicular magnetic-field (B). For this purpose we introduce a new two-fluid formulation consisting of fermionized field-induced vortices and electrically neutralized Bogoliubov quasiparticles (spinons) interacting via a long-ranged statistical interaction. This approach allows us to access a novel non-Fermi-liquid phase, which naturally interpolates between the low B superconductor and the high B normal metal. Dewetting of ultrathin polymer films near the glass transition exhibits unexpected front morphologies [G. Reiter, Phys. Rev. Lett. 87, 186101 (2001)]. Here, we present the first theoretical attempt to understand these features, focusing on the shear-thinning behavior of these films. We analyze the profile of the dewetting film, and characterize the time evolution of the dry region radius, R(d)(t), and of the rim height, h(m)(t). After a transient time, depending on the initial thickness, h(m)(t) grows like square root[t] while R(d)(t) increases like exp(square root[t]). Different regimes of growth are expected, depending on the initial film thickness and experimental time range.  相似文献

A method is proposed for the calculation of the magnetocaloric effect from simultaneous measurements of thermal expansion and magnetostriction made in different regimes (adiabatic and isothermal). The magnitude of the magnetocaloric effect for Sm0.6Sr0.4MnO3 is estimated. It is found that near the Curie temperature T C it passes through a maximum to reach a giant value ΔT=4.6 K for ΔB=0.84 T. In addition, in the neighborhood of T C, we observed colossal magnetoresistance Δρ/ρ = [ρ(H) ? ρ(0)]/ρ(0) = 72% in a weak magnetic field of 0.84 T, a giant negative volume magnetostriction ω=?5×10?4 in a field of the same strength, and a large change in the sample volume ΔV/V ≈ 0.1%.  相似文献

Measurements of the EPR linewidth ΔH of EuO at 9 GHz are reported in the temperature range of 66–300° K, with particular attention to the region near Tc (69.6° K). Comparison with the earlier data of Eastman at 25 GHz in the critical region shows considerable suppression of ΔH at 25 GHz. The temperature-dependent behavior of ΔH in EuO at 9 GHz is similar to the observations in CrBr3 and it is in qualitative agreement with the zero-field predictions of Huber and Maleev. The quantitative discrepancies are believed to be due to the effect of the resonance magnetic field on EPR spin dynamics near Tc and an inadequate decoupling of the four-spin correlation functions used in the theories.  相似文献
