Scintillating properties of Ce3+-doped (Lu,Y) aluminum garnet single crystalline films (SCF) were investigated. Thin SCF films of thickness between 1 and 30 μm were grown by a liquid phase epitaxy (LPE) method in various fluxes. The α-particle excitation (mainly 5.4857 MeV line of 241Am) of pulse height spectra is used to measure scintillation response of SCF, especially peak of those α-rays which are totally absorbed in the films. Detailed studies and evaluation of scintillation measurements of large sets of Ce3+-doped SCF (Lu,Y) aluminum garnets showed that at present time (i) YAG:Ce SCF have comparable scintillation properties as YAG:Ce single crystals, especially their Nphels photoelectron yields are the same while (ii) scintillation properties of LuAG:Ce SCF do not reach those of LuAG:Ce single crystal.  相似文献

The paper is devoted to investigation of the luminescent properties of Dy3+ and Dy3+-Ce3+ doped single crystalline films (SCF) grown by LPE method from PbO–B2O3 flux. We have found that the YAG:Dy and YAG:Dy,Ce SCFs possess bright cathodoluminescence in the visible range and good scintillation figure of merit. For this reason LPE grown YAG:Dy and YAG:Dy,Ce SCF are proposed for different applications, namely, as cathodoluminescence screens or screens for microimaging. The Dy3+ co-doping can be also proposed for improvement of the scintillation efficiency of the Ce3+ doped garnet compounds in the SCF form due to Dy3+→ Ce3+ energy transfer and removing the trap related centers in the above RT range.  相似文献

Luminescence and scintillation properties of newly discovered bromo-elpasolites Cs2NaGdBr6: Ce3+ (CNGB: Ce3+) are presented. Single crystals of CNGB: Ce3+ with dimensions up to Ø7×10 mm3 are successfully grown by the Bridgman technique. X-ray excited luminescence measurements of the grown samples showed a broad emission band in the wavelength range from 365 to 470 nm. It offered an energy resolution of 5.1% (FWHM) at 662 keV for 10% Ce sample. The light output of the investigated samples increases along with cerium concentration. A maximum light yield of ~36,800 ph/MeV is measured for the 10% Ce sample crystal. Under γ-ray excitation, CNGB: Ce3+ crystals showed three exponential decay time components. The scintillation mechanism in the sample crystal is presented.  相似文献

Optical and luminescence properties of transparent nanosized cerium doped Y3Al5O12 (YAG:Ce) ceramics have been studied. YAG:Ce nanoceramics were obtained by means of low temperature and high pressure (LTHP) sintering method. Nanoceramic samples were sintered in the 2–8 GPa pressure range, whereas Ce3+ concentration was varied in the 0.5–5 at. % range. It is shown that, in contrast to the single crystal, a strong rise of absorption coefficient was detected already at wavelength shorter than 400 nm in all nanoceramic samples studied. Furthermore, in nanoceramic samples unusual UV emission band near 3.1 eV was observed, which is not observed in the YAG:Ce single crystal. High pressure applied during nanoceramics sintering leads to significant changes in their optical and luminescence properties.  相似文献

This work reports the development of new types of UV-emitting phosphors based on single crystalline films (SCF) of aluminum garnet and perovskite compounds grown by the liquid phase epitaxy method. We consider peculiarities of the growth and the luminescent and scintillation properties of the following four types of UV SCF phosphors: i) Ce-doped SCF of Y–Lu–Al-perovskites with the Ce3+ emission in the 300-450 nm range of the decay time of 16–17 ns; ii) Pr-doped SCF of Y–Lu–Al garnets and perovskites with the Pr3+ emission in the 300–400 nm and 235–330 nm ranges with the decay time of 13–19 and 7–8 ns, respectively; iii) La3+ or Sc3+ doped SCF of Y–Lu–Al-garnets, emitting in the 280-400 nm range due to formation of the LaY,Lu, ScY,Lu and ScAl centers with decay time of the order of several hundreds of nanoseconds; iv) Bi3+ doped SCF of garnets with Bi3+ emission in 275–350 nm with decay time of about 1.9 μs.  相似文献

Metal–organic coordination complex single crystals bis thiourea zinc acetate (BTZA) and Cd2+ doped BTZA have been synthesized and grown successfully by slow-cooling technique from their aqueous solutions. Single crystals of pure and Cd2+ doped BTZA with dimensions of 35 × 4 × 2 mm3 and 10 × 5 × 6 mm3, respectively were obtained with well defined morphology. The as grown single crystals are characterized by single crystal XRD studies and melting point measurements which reveal the incorporation of metallic dopants has not changed the structure of the parent crystal. The powder X-ray diffractogram of the grown crystals has been recorded and the various planes of reflection identified shows shift in the peak positions. The metal coordination with thiourea through sulphur in pure and Cd2+ doped BTZA were ascertained by FTIR studies and optical absorption study to identify the UV cut-off range. The presence of metals in pure and Cd2+ doped BTZA crystal lattice were confirmed by atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS). The thermal decomposition of pure and Cd2+ doped BTZA crystals were investigated by thermo gravimetric analyses (TGA) and differential thermal analysis (DTA) indicate that doped crystals are more stable than pure crystals. The dielectric response of the crystals were studied in the frequency range 100 Hz–5 MHz at different temperatures and the results are discussed. Second harmonic generation (SHG) measurement confirms that the pure and Cd2+ doped BTZA have nonlinear optical (NLO) property. Laser damage threshold value of 12.44 MW/cm2 has been determined using Q-switched Nd:YAG laser operating at 1064 nm and with 8 ns pulses in single shot mode for pure BTZA single crystal is reported for the first time.  相似文献

Single crystal of strontium iodide doped with 1% europium (SrI2:1% Eu2+) was grown by Vertical Gradient Freeze technique. UV excited emission spectra were studied as a function of temperature. Results indicate the thermal quenching of Eu2+ emission starts from ~400 K with a thermal activation energy of 0.39 eV. Gamma and UV excited decay measurements indicate that the scintillation decay time of SrI2:Eu2+ is longer than the lifetime of Eu2+ luminescence center in the SrI2 host. The thermoluminescence glow curve revealed a highly concentrated charge carrier trap at 50 K. Elimination of this trap is expected to enhance the energy migration of charge carriers and result in faster scintillation decay.  相似文献

In this communication, we investigated the scintillation properties of Cs2LiGdCl6:10% Ce3+ single crystal. This scintillation crystal is grown by using the vertical Bridgman technique. X-rays induced emission spectra show that, Cs2LiGdCl6:10% Ce3+ emits into the Ce3+ band, spanning from 365 nm to 450 nm wavelengths. Under γ-ray excitation, the sample crystal shows three main decay time components of 129 ns (51%), 573 ns (32%) and 8.9 μs (17%). It offers an energy resolution of 5.0% (FWHM) for the 662 keV full absorption peak at room temperature. We measured an absolute light yield of 20,000 photons/MeV of absorbed γ-ray energy. We found that with a little exposure to the air, the scintillation properties of the Cs2LiGdCl6:10% Ce3+ crystal deteriorate, which is attributed to the highly hygroscopic nature of this material. We believe that the Cs2LiGdCl6:10% Ce3+ crystal can be a promising material for medical imaging and radiation detection. Moreover due to the presence of Li and Gd constituents, this scintillation crystal can also be the possible candidate for thermal neutron detection.  相似文献

We use various techniques to study optical and scintillation properties of Ce-doped yttrium aluminum garnet, Y3Al5O12 (YAG:Ce), in the form of a high-quality industrial single crystal. This was compared to optical ceramics prepared from YAG:Ce nanopowders. We present experimental data in the areas of optical absorption, radioluminescence, scintillation decay, photoelectron yield, thermally stimulated luminescence and radiation-induced absorption. The results point to an interesting feature—the absence of antisite (YAl, i.e. Y at the Al site) defects in optical ceramics. The scintillation decay of the ceramics is faster than that of the single crystal, but its photoelectron yield (measured with 1 μs integration time) is about 30-40% lower. Apart from the photoelectron yield value the YAG:Ce optical ceramic is fully comparable to a high quality industrial YAG:Ce single crystal and can become a competitive scintillator material.  相似文献

Sodium bitartrate monohydrate (SBTMH) a new organometallic nonlinear optical material, with molecular formula, [C4H5NaO6 · H2O] has been synthesized at ambient temperature. Spectral, thermal and optical techniques have been employed to characterize the new material. Bulk single crystals of size 13 × 4 × 4 mm3 of SBTMH have been grown by slow cooling method. The unit cell parameters of the grown crystal were determined by single crystal XRD. Functional groups present in the sample were identified by FTIR spectral analysis. Thermal stability of SBTMH was determined using TGA/DTA. The grown crystals exhibit nonlinear properties. The dielectric response of the crystal with varying frequencies was studied. The optical transparency range and the lower cut-off wavelength of the material were identified from the UV–vis–NIR absorption spectrum.  相似文献

Good transparent bulk single crystals of pure l-alanine (LA) and cobalt doped LA crystals have been synthesized and successfully grown by slow-cooling method from their aqueous solutions. The concentration of metal dopants in the mother solution with 0.5 mol% for cobalt was carried out individually and crystals were obtained with well defined morphology. The as grown metal doped and pure single crystals were characterized by single crystal XRD studies which confirm that the incorporation of metallic dopants has not changed the basic structure of the parent crystal. The absorption of these crystals was analyzed and the result confirms that they possess low absorption in the range 230–1100 nm. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy was carried out to investigate the molecular vibrations of these crystals and to confirm the incorporation of the dopants. The thermal properties have been studied by TGA/DTA curves. The EDAX measurement and surface morphology were studied for pure and metal doped LA crystals. The second harmonic generation (SHG) signals were observed using Nd: YAG laser with fundamental wavelength of 1064 nm in pure and metal doped crystals. The laser damage threshold was measured for pure and metal doped LA crystals and also tested by using a Q-switched Nd: YAG laser showed enhanced LDT value for metal (Co2+) doped LA crystal compared to pure LA crystal due to the metallic substitutions thus proving their useful candidature for nonlinear optical applications.  相似文献

A new nonlinear optical (NLO) organic crystal 1-[4-({(E)-[4-(methylsulfanyl)phenyl]methylidene}amino)phenyl]ethanone (MMP) has been grown by slow evaporation technique at ambient temperature. The crystal structure of MMP was determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction. MMP crystallizes in non-centrosymmetric monoclinic system with space group P21. The FT-IR spectrum recorded for new crystal confirmed the presence of various functional groups in the material. MMP was found to be thermally stable up to 300 °C. The grown crystal was optically transparent in the wavelength range of 400–1100 nm. The second harmonic generation (SHG) efficiency of the crystal was measured by the classical powder technique using Nd:YAG laser and was found to be 4.13 times more efficient than reference material, urea. Third order nonlinear parameters were measured by employing the Z-scan technique. The laser damage threshold for MMP crystal was determined to be 4.26 GW/cm2. The Brewster angle technique was employed to measure the refractive index of the crystal and the values for green and red wavelengths were found to be 1.35 and 1.33, respectively. The dielectric and electrical measurements were carried out to study the different polarization mechanisms and conductivity of the crystal.  相似文献

Bulk Gd2Si2O7:Ce (GPS:Ce) single crystals obtained by Czochralski method demonstrate a high light output at γ-irradiation (3.8 times higher in comparison with Bi4Ge3O12 (BGO)), energy resolution 13% (137Cs, 662 KeV), fast decay time (41.7 ns), and good thermal stability of light output (up to 425 K). This combination of characteristics makes this scintillator very attractive for medical imaging and high-temperature applications. Light output at thermal neutron monitoring is evaluated as twice higher in comparison with Gd2SiO5:Ce (GSO). The observed rather high afterglow level (0.2% after 20 ms) and moderate energy resolution (13%) certifies a room for improvement of these parameters by further optimization of crystal quality.  相似文献

Pure and sodium chloride (NaCl)-added Triglycine sulfate (TGS) crystals were grown from aqueous solutions by slow evaporation technique. The values of concentration of dopants in the mother solution were 0.2, 0.6 and 1 mol%. The solubility of the grown samples have been found out at various temperatures. The determination of unit cell parameters was carried out by single crystal XRD method and found that the grown crystals crystallize in monoclinic structure. The dielectric characterization for the pure and NaCl-doped TGS crystals was performed by measuring the dielectric parameters like dielectric constant and dielectric loss with various frequencies in the range 102–106 Hz and with the temperatures ranging from 30 to 70 °C and this study reveals an increase of dielectric constant and loss with the increase of NaCl concentration. Studies on mechanical properties like microhardness and density of the grown pure and NaCl-doped TGS crystals were carried out. UV–Visible transmittance studies were carried out for the grown samples. A sharp fall in the transmittance is observed at 228 nm for pure and NaCl-doped TGS crystals. Atomic absorption spectroscopic (AAS) study was done on the NaCl-doped TGS crystals to ascertain the presence of Na+ ions in the lattice.  相似文献

Nano-YAG:Ce3+ and YAG:Ce3+,Gd3+ phosphors were synthesized by glycothermal method. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) measurements showed that the samples can be well-crystallized at 600 °C. The transition electron microscope (TEM) showed that the particles have sizes mostly in the range between 35 and 100 nm. The YAG:Ce nano-phosphor had a wide emission band ranging from blue to yellow peaking at 532 nm, due to the transition from the lowest 5d band to 2F7/2, 2F5/2 states of the Ce3+ ion. Red-shift of emission peak wavelength from 532 nm to 568 nm has been achieved as doping Gd3+ ions into the YAG:Ce3+ to substitute some Y3+ ions. White LEDs were fabricated by combining GaN (460 nm) chip with the YAG:Ce3+ and YAG:Ce3+,Gd3+. Color rendering index of the white LED as a function of the ratios of theses two kinds of phosphors was studied. As the ratio of YAG:Ce3+,Gd3+ phosphor increased, the color rendering index of the LED improved significantly under the forward bias of 20 mA. As the ratio of YAG:Ce3+ and YAG:Ce3+,Gd3+ was 11:9, the white LED had a color rendering index, CIE chromaticity coordinates and color temperature Tc of 85, (0.3116, 0.3202) and 6564 K, respectively.  相似文献

Good quality and bulk size single crystal (size: 20×13×8 mm3) of bis(glycine) lithium nitrate (BGLiN) was grown by a slow evaporation solution technique from the aqueous solutions at constant temperature i.e. 27 °C using synthesized materials. Crystal system and lattice parameters were determined by single crystals as well as powder X-ray diffraction analysis. The lattice parameters of the titled compound are a=10.0223 Å, b=5.0343 Å, c=17.0510 Å, and V=860.312 Å3 and it crystallized in an orthorhombic system with space group Pca21 obtained by single crystal XRD. Elemental composition was confirmed by energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopic analysis. Optical absorption spectrum was recorded and various optical parameters such as optical transmission (~60%), and optical band gap (4.998 eV) were calculated. Photoluminescence study shows that the grown crystal is free from major defects. Crystalline perfection of the grown crystal was assessed and found good. Ground state optimized geometry has been obtained by using DFT with 6-31G(d,p) basis set. HOMO and LUMO energy gap was found to be 6.01 eV and dipole moment was 1.65 D.  相似文献

A Nd:Bi12SiO20 crystal was grown by the Czochralski method. The thermal properties of the crystal were systematically studied. The thermal expansion coefficient was measured to be α=11.42×10?6 K?1 over the temperature range of 295–775 K, and the specific heat and thermal diffusion coefficient were measured to be 0.243 Jg?1 k?1 and 0.584 mm2/s, respectively at 302 K. The density was measured to be 9.361 g/cm3 by the buoyancy method. The thermal conductivity of Nd:Bi12SiO20 was calculated to be 1.328 Wm?1 K?1 at room temperature (302 K). The refractive index of Nd:Bi12SiO20 was measured at room temperature at eight different wavelengths. The absorption and emission spectra were also measured at room temperature. Continuous-wave (CW) laser output of a Nd:Bi12SiO20 crystal pumped by a laser diode (LD) at 1071.5 nm was achieved with an output power of 65 mW. To our knowledge, this is the first time LD pumped laser output in this crystal has been obtained. These results show that Nd:Bi12SiO20 can serve as a laser crystal.  相似文献
