Total charged particle fluxes above 1.2 GeV/c transverse momentum at 90° have been measured at the CERN Intersecting Storage Rings for c.m. energies between 23.2 and 52.7 GeV. In addition, charged pion spectra above 3 GeV/c have been obtained at 44.4 and 52.7 GeV, as well as gamma-ray spectra at the same energies. The upper limit to produce a single electron above 3 GeV/c at 90° is less than 1.2 × 10?33cm2/sr at 90% confidence level.  相似文献

The production of high transverse momentum η mesons from proton-proton collisions has been studied at the CERN ISR. The decay η→γγ was identified in an array of lead-glass ?erenkov counters. The preliminary results, obtained at a total centre-of-mass energy √s=52.7 GeV, show an η signal, which amounts to approximately one half of the π0 cross-section for centre-of-mass transverse momenta between 3 and 5 GeV/c. The production of high transverse momentum π0's was also measured and compared with previous results.  相似文献

Measurements of single-electron production in proton-proton collisions at the CERN ISR are presented for five centre-of-mass energies √s = 23.5, 30.6, 44.8, 52.7, and 62.4 GeV. The invariant cross sections for single electrons with transverse momenta of 0.60 to 4.7 GeV/c are given. Measurements of electron-positron pairs and measurements of charged hadrons produced in association with the single electrons, are also reported.  相似文献

Double differential K+cross sections have been measured in p+C collisions at 1.2, 1.5 and 2.5 GeV beam energy and in p+Pb collisions at 1.2 and 1.5 GeV. The K+ spectrum taken at 2.5 GeV can be reproduced quantitatively by a model calculation which takes into account first chance proton-nucleon collisions and internal momentum with energy distribution of nucleons according to the spectral function. At 1.2 and 1.5 GeV beam energy the K+ data excess significantly the model predictions for first chance collisions. When taking secondary processes into account the results of the calculations are in much better agreement with the data.  相似文献

The production of neutral kaons in the reaction K+p → Kn + X is studied at the incident momentum of 32 GeV/c. Inclusive cross sections and single-particle distributions are presented and compared with the data at lower energies. The total inclusive cross section amounts to 7.9 ± 0.3 mb at 32 GeV/c and is significantly higher than at lower energies due to the rapid rise of multikaon production. The fraction of Kn's coming from the decay of the K1 resonances stays roughly constant with energy between 8.2 and 32 GeV/c. In the central and beam fragmentation regions the single-particle distributions reveal no energy dependence between the 16 and 32 GeV/c data in contrast with the behaviour at lower energies, while in the proton fragmentation region the data are compatible with the trend observed at lower energies and with theoretical expectations.  相似文献

Differential cross sections for the photoproduction of pi-zero mesons from protons have been measured at angles between 10° and 70° c.m. in the energy range 0.85 GeV to 1.30 GeV. The values are compared with the fits to pion photoproduction data from three recent partial-wave analyses.  相似文献

Charged particle momentum distributions are studied in the reaction hadrons, using data collected with the OPAL detector at centre-of-mass energies from 192 GeV to 209 GeV. The data correspond to an average centre-of-mass energy of 201.7 GeV and a total integrated luminosity of 433 pb-1. The measured distributions and derived quantities, in combination with corresponding results obtained at lower centre-of-mass energies, are compared to QCD predictions in various theoretical approaches to study the energy dependence of the strong interaction and to test QCD as the theory describing it. In general, a good agreement is found between the measurements and the corresponding QCD predictions. Received: 17 July 2002 / Published online: 3 March 2003  相似文献

The production and semi-leptonic decay of heavy quarks have been studied in the photoproduction process with the ZEUS detector at HERA using an integrated luminosity of 38.5 pb. Events with photon-proton centre-of-mass energies, , between 134 and 269 GeV and a photon virtuality, , less than 1 GeV were selected requiring at least two jets of transverse energy GeV and an electron in the final state. The electrons were identified by employing the ionisation energy loss measurement. The contribution of beauty quarks was determined using the transverse momentum of the electron relative to the axis of the closest jet, . The data, after background subtraction, were fit with a Monte Carlo simulation including beauty and charm decays. The measured beauty cross section was extrapolated to the parton level with the b quark restricted to the region of transverse momentum 5 GeV and pseudorapidity 2. The extrapolated cross section is . The result is compared to a perturbative QCD calculation performed to next-to-leading order. Received: 22 November 2000 / Published online: 5 February 2001  相似文献

A search for high transverse momentum electrons directly produced in proton-proton collisions has been performed at the CERN ISR. The apparatus included a magnetic spectrometer with wire spark chambers, a lead-glass counter array, and a threshold gas ?erenkov counter. At a centre-of-mass energy √s = 52.7 GeV, a signal has been observed in the range 1.6<pT1<4.7 GeV/c. The signal occurs at a level of approximately 10?4 of the inclusive pion cross-section.  相似文献

Using the ZEUS detector at HERA, we have searched for heavy excited states of electrons, neutrinos, and quarks in e + p collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 300 GeV. With an integrated luminosity of 9.4 pb-1, no evidence was found for electroweak production and decay of such states. Limits on the production cross section times branching ratio and on the characteristic couplings, ?/Λ, are derived for masses up to 250 GeV. For the particular choice ?/Λ = 1/M ?*, we exclude at the 95% confidence level excited electrons with mass between 30 and 200 GeV, excited electron neutrinos with mass between 40 and 96 GeV, and quarks excited electroweakly with mass between 40 and 169 GeV.  相似文献

Four angular distributions of the differential cross section of the reaction γ + p → π0 + p have been measured at the Bonn 2.5 GeV Synchrotron at pion c.m. angles between 3° and 63° in the photon energy range from 0.9 GeV to 1.2 GeV. The π0 mesons were detected by their two decay photons. The data are compared with data of other laboratories and predictions of two recent partial-wave analyses.  相似文献

The polarized target asymmetry for γ + p → π+ + n was measured at c.m. angles around 130° for the energy range between 0.3 and 1.0 GeV. A magnetic spectrometer system was used to detect π+ mesons from the polarized butanol target. The data show two prominent positive peaks at 0.4 and 0.8 GeV and a deep minimum at 0.6 GeV. These features are well reproduced by the phenomenological analysis made by us.  相似文献

The inclusive production al all charged particles of transverse momentum pT between 1.5 and 4.4 GeV/c at centre of mass angles 90° and 59.4° from p-p-collisions with √s = 44 and 53 GeV has been measured. No strong energy dependence is observed for these transverse momenta.  相似文献

A search for excited states of the standard model fermions was performed using the ZEUS detector at the HERA electron-proton collider, operating at a centre of mass energy of 296 GeV. In a sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 0.55 pb–1, no evidence was found for any resonant state decaying into final states composed of a fermion and a gauge boson. Limits on the coupling strength times branching ratio of excited fermions are presented for masses between 50 GeV and 250 GeV, extending previous search regions significantly.supported by Worldlab Lausanne, Switzerland  相似文献

The Kp experiments at 32.1 GeV/c and 33.8 GeV/c in the Mirabelle bubble chamber are reviewed and the resulting topological cross sections are compared to lower energy data with beam momenta between 4.2 and 16 GeV/c. Some quantities characterizing the multiplicity distributions are compiled for these data and their energy dependence is compared to results from pp experiments. Studying the scaling behavior of the Kp multiplicity distributions, “quasi scaling” is observed for data with pLab ≧ 8.25 GeV/c.  相似文献

We have used 200 GeV/u and 60 GeV/u oxygen beams accelerated at CERN to bombard a 1.5 mg/cm2 Au target. Light nuclei have been detected at 25° and 55° using silicon telescopes. Their inclusive mass distribution follows an exponential behaviour at 200 GeV/u but is different at 60 GeV/u. In this latter case the situation is similar to what has been observed at lower bombarding energies with heavy ions, and for high energy proton-induced reactions. The results at 200 GeV/u are, however, different from those observed in proton-induced reactions in the same energy domain.  相似文献

The photoproduction of prompt photons, together with an accompanying jet, has been studied in ep collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 318 GeV with the ZEUS detector at HERA using an integrated luminosity of 77 pb-1. Cross sections were measured for the transverse energy of the photon and the jet larger than 5 and 6 GeV, respectively. The differential γ+jet cross sections were reconstructed as functions of the transverse energy, pseudorapidity and xγ obs, the fraction of the incoming photon momentum taken by the photon-jet system. Predictions based on leading-logarithm parton-shower Monte Carlo models and next-to-leading-order (NLO) QCD generally underestimate the cross sections for the transverse energies of prompt photons below 7 GeV, while the kT-factorisation QCD calculation agrees with the data better. When the minimum transverse energy of prompt photons is increased to 7 GeV, both NLO QCD and the kT-factorisation calculations are in good agreement with the data.  相似文献

Measurements of energy-energy correlations in hadronic final states produced in e+e? annihilation at c.m. energies between 7.7 and 31.6 GeV are presented. The data are compared to perturbative QCD predictions. Good qualitative agreement above 20 GeV c.m. energy is found. The importance of non-perturbative effects is discussed, as well as the detailed behaviour of the correlation near 180°.  相似文献

Preliminary measurements have been made at centre of mass energies √s = 31 and 44 GeV of the π, K and p production ratios at 90° for pT between 2.0 and 3.5 GeV/c. The (K+p)/π ratio is given down to pT = 1.4 GeV/c. No strong energy dependence is observed for these transverse momenta.  相似文献
