Just as Kaplansky [4] has introduced the notion of an AW*-module as a generalization of a complex Hilbert space, we introduce the notion of an AL*-algebra, which is a generalization of that of an L*-algebra invented by Schue [9, 10]. By using Boolean valued methods developed by Ozawa [6–8], Takeuti [11–13] and others, we establish its basic properties including a fundamental structure theorem. The weighted median problem arises as a subproblem in certain multivariate optimization problems, includingL 1 approximation. Three algorithms for the weighted median problem are presented and the relationships between them are discussed. We report on computational experience with these algorithms and on their use in the context of multivariateL 1 approximation.This work was supported in part by National Science Foundation Grant CCR-8713893 and in part by a grant from The City University of New York PSC-CUNY Research Award program.  相似文献

Let f(x) be a given, real-valued, continuous function definedon an interval [a,b]of the real line. Given a set of m real-valued,continuous functions j(x) defined on [a,b], a linear approximatingfunction can be formed with any real setA = {a1, a2,..., am}. We present results for determining A sothat F(A, x) is a best approximation to(x) when the measureof goodness of approximation is a weighted sum of |F(A, x)–f(x)|,the weights being positive constants, w, when F(A, x) f(x)and w2 otherwise (when w, = w2 = 1, the measure is the L1, norm).The results are derived from a linear programming formulationof the problem. In particular, we give a theorem which shows when such bestapproximations interpolate the function at fixed ordinates whichare independent of f(x). We show how the fixed points can becalculated and we present numerical results to indicate thatthe theorem is quite robust.  相似文献

In this article, the authors discuss the L 1-convergence for weighted sums of some dependent random variables under the condition of h-integrability with respect to an array of weights. The dependence structure of the random variables includes pairwise lower case negative dependence and conditions on the mixing coefficient, the maximal correlation coefficient, or the ρ*-mixing coefficient. They prove that all the weighted sums have similar limiting behaviour.  相似文献

In this paper we prove necessary and sufficient conditions for the weighted L 1-integrability of functions defined on [0, 1) in terms of Fourier coefficients with respect to a multiplicative system of bounded type. These results are counterparts of trigonometric ones obtained by M. and S. Izumi and M. M. Robertson.  相似文献

The space L p (G), 1 > p < ∞, on a locally compact group G is known to be closed under convolution only if G is compact. However, the weighted spaces L p (G, w) are Banach algebras with respect to convolution and natural norm under certain conditions on the weight. In the present paper, sufficient conditions for a weight defining a convolution algebra are stated in general form. These conditions are well known in some special cases. The spectrum (the maximal ideal space) of the algebra L p (G,w) on an Abelian group G is described. It is shown that all algebras of this type are semisimple.  相似文献

Finite-element methods lead to approximations that are optimalor near-optimal in an associated energy norm. The consequentialproblem of recovering point values of the solution or its derivativesis addressed in this paper and its companion. A general frameworkis adopted, based on the seminal paper of Golomb & Weinberger(1959), which brings together several ideas such as superconvergence,local averaging and defect correction. If A is a Hopf *-algebra, the dual space A' is again a *-algebra.There is a natural subalgebra of A' that is again a Hopf*-algebra. In many interesting examples, A° will be largeenough (to separate points of A). More generally, one can considera pair (A, B) of Hopf *-algebras and a bilinear form on A xB with conditions such that, if the pairing is non-degenerate,one algebra can be considered as a subalgebra of the dual ofthe other. In these notes, we study such pairs of Hopf *-algebras. We startfrom the notion of a Hopf *-algebra A and its reduced dual A°.We give examples of pairs of Hopf *-algebras, and discuss theproblem of non-degeneracy. The first example is an algebra pairedwith itself. The second example is the pairing of a Hopf *-algebra(due to Jimbo) and the twisted SU(n) of Woronowicz. We alsodiscuss the notion of the quantum double of Drinfeld in thisframework of dual pairs.  相似文献

Let Y be an integral projective curve whose singularities are of type Ak, i.e. with only tacnodes and planar (perhaps non-ordinary) cusps. Set g:= pa(Y). Here we study the Brill - Noether theory of spanned line bundles on Y. If the singularities are bad enough, we show the existence of spanned degree d line bundles, L, with h0(Y, L) ≥ r + 1 even if the Brill - Noether number ρ(g, d, r) < 0. We develop the method introduced previously, to construct infinitesimal generators on locally compact group C *-algebras and on tensor product of C *-algebras. It is shown in particular that there is a C * -algebra A such that the C *-tensor product of A and an arbitrary C *-algebra B can have a non-approximately inner strongly one parameter group of *-automorphisms.  相似文献

This paper deals with the analysis of Hamiltonian Hopf as well as saddle-center bifurcations in 4-DOF systems defined by perturbed isotropic oscillators (1:1:1:1 resonance), in the presence of two quadratic symmetries Ξ and L 1. When we normalize the system with respect to the quadratic part of the energy and carry out a reduction with respect to a three-torus group we end up with a 1-DOF system with several parameters on the thrice reduced phase space. Then, we focus our analysis on the evolution of relative equilibria around singular points of this reduced phase space. In particular, dealing with the Hamiltonian Hopf bifurcation the ‘geometric approach’ is used, following the steps set up by one of the authors in the context of 3-DOF systems. In order to see the interplay between integrals and physical parameters in the analysis of bifurcations, we consider as a perturbation a one-parameter family, which in particular includes one of the classical Stark–Zeeman models (parallel case) in three dimensions.  相似文献
